Up and Down October: Snook Ends 2025 Season, Looks Ahead to 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Port Royal, PA – October 30, 2025

With few races remaining on the schedule for Lane Snook and his team in 2025, the end of a personal best season was in sight. Even with a limited number of races, the team would travel to a variety of facilities.

Starting off the month at the Path Valley Speedway, Snook and team would continue their winning ways. Winning his heat race and then starting 3rd in the feature, Lane was once again in prime position to grab another win. “Got into second on the first lap and after a few restarts was able to pass the leader.” Lane would hold on to pick up the win in the limited late model feature and took his win total on the year to 20.

Traveling the following weekend to the world-famous Eldora Speedway, Snook would look to round out his season on a high note. Having made a statement run in the Dirt Track World Championship event in 2024, hopes were again high for a great run at this event.

Speed would start the first night of racing as Snook went up against the field of 60+ cars. Lane would time in 5th in his group and start 2nd in his heat race. Making his way through the heat and finishing in 2nd would lock him into the feature on Saturday night, and he would start 9th. “I thought we had a shot to win after the first day, as I felt we were still pretty fast for the car I had, and I knew if the car was right, I would’ve had a shot.”

As the Saturday finale started, the team was going to be out first for hot laps, but opted to skip, as the track was still really wet. Unknown to the team, the car had issues from the night before with the rough conditions in the heat race. “I believe I had a shock go bad from the heat race the day before,” stated Lane. And sadly, the feature result was not very good, having no laps that night to diagnose the car. “It took all the traction out of the racecar.” A disappointing backslide through the field, all the way to 20th, was not what the Port Royal-based team was looking for. “I haven’t been able to look into it too hard yet,” said Snook. All in all, it was bittersweet to have such a prime opportunity for a strong run in a premier event, but the driver and team are already looking forward to 2026.

With 2025 being a breakthrough season with 20 wins and 2 track titles at Selinsgrove and Port Royal, questions surrounded what the young talent would do in 2026. Preparation and learning, a statement that started the season as something Snook was looking to do, will again be the name of the game during this offseason. “The plan for the offseason is to be on the road as much as possible and learn as much as possible.” He’s already been spending a lot of the last few weeks with Drake Troutman and crew, learning and helping out.

The biggest part of the offseason, aside from the travel and learning, will be what is in the works for the 2026 season. “I also plan on putting another car together, to run supers next year, in the few weeks I’ll be home over the offseason.” Making the move to the super late model ranks would be a step that the team was hoping to start this past season in a limited capacity, but hurting their motor in the first attempt of the season put that on hold. Even when running with the super late model division in the late stages of the season with their steel block, Snook showed speed.

With all of this in mind, Lane and team will still certainly have this season to remember forever, regardless of what results come next year. Having four times more wins this season was a surprise to everyone involved. The other part that the team should take great pride in is the level of consistency that they were able to maintain. The team ran 43 total races, combining limited, super, and steel block shows. Aside from the 20 wins, Snook was able to tally 37 top 10’s, 34 top 5’s, and 32 podiums. Winning nearly half his races and being on the podium in almost 75% of the shows, boasts a strong model of consistency and ability.

While it’s unknown what 2026 may bring, with the number of things that are going right for the 23 car, there is no reason that wins and an equally impressive stat line can’t happen. Make sure to keep an eye out for updates and information about 2026 and when the team plans to get back on track.  Fans can always get the latest information on the team’s website, LaneSnookRacing.com.

Staying Consistent in August: Three Wins & Six Total Podiums Prove Strength of Snook & Team

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Selinsgrove, PA – September 3, 2025

by Derick Kriner / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Figuring out what your car needs throughout the season can be an ongoing struggle and can hinder consistency. Early in the beginning stages of the season, for Lane Snook, finding ways to apply what he learned out on the road with Drake Troutman was a major emphasis. He was able to pinpoint some issues immediately, and some have only become evident as their speed and consistency have increased. August was one of the biggest examples of that consistency and what applying those learned skills can do.

August started out with the continued speed that had been building all year. Port Royal on the 2nd ended in a win for the 23 team, after Snook rolled off 6th and was “able to get the lead late in the race on a challenging race track.” Only leading the last 3 laps of the race, after methodically working his way through the field, Snook started the month well.

That strong start would continue the following week at Bedford, where the team would charge from 4th to the win. Lane stated he had a “very solid car”, and that was evident, as this was the fourth win in a row for the Port Royal-based team.

Clinton County was next up for the team on the 15th. A strong showing ended with a little disappointment as Lane charged from 6th to the lead, only to get passed in lap traffic on the last lap. Finishing second was nothing to be ashamed of, but it was a little bittersweet.

Super late model competition was next up for Snook, as the team tested out their steel block motor against the super late model ranks at Port Royal on the 16th. While not having the power of some of the teams, it was a very respectable effort. “We started 18th in the feature and figured out our problem and were able to drive up to 8th and finish there.” Sometimes, constantly learning is about finding the small things that make a big difference. For having less horsepower than others, he passed; that sure seemed to be the case that night for the 23.

Switching back to the limited the following week, Lane would again prove the power of their program, nearly grabbing another win. A 6th-place start, due to the handicap system, was overcome, as Lane charged to the front and caught the leader. “I was able to pass for the lead in lap traffic as a caution came out. Then I got into the fence a few laps after the restart, trying to get back around the leader, and ended up second.” A few unfortunate breaks, but he was still able to maintain a podium finish.

The last week of August featured a Saturday night show at Port Royal for the Butch Renninger (Lane’s grandfather) Memorial. With the night starting with a quick time effort in group time trials and a 2nd place heat finish, Lane ended up rolling off 2nd in the feature. “Got the lead early and started pulling away through lap traffic towards the end of the race. Then got passed on a restart on the last lap to end up finishing second.” With over a 2-second lead coming to the checkered flag, it was a real heartbreaking moment to get passed on the impending restart, but his mental toughness showed the next night.

Snook made up for the loss the night before by sweeping the next night at Selinsgrove. Going quick time in qualifying and winning his heat from the pole, there was no settling for anything less than a win. A pole pill in the redraw would make it tough for the competition with how consistent and fast the 23 car had been. “Redraw a one and lead every lap and won by over 7 seconds.” One of the more dominating performances by the young racer.

What has been silently compiling for the 23 team, aside from wins, is points. Something that is very important on a national level and something that consistency can gain you. Finding the little things and making the constant adjustments needed throughout the year is what can separate you from the competition. As it sits now, Lane is in position to grab two track titles.

“We weren’t really planning on running any points deals throughout the year until we started running well and were in good contention to win the points championship.” While the speed and consistency didn’t just start this past month, August was a great example of it. Minus the single super-start, all of the limited division appearances in August resulted in either a win or a 2nd-place finish.

“We’ve had a good car almost every time we’ve unloaded this year.” Even when the race hasn’t resulted in a win, being able to minimize the negatives has been a strong suit. “I feel like we have a shot to win everywhere we go.” Finishing on the podium 80% of the time this year has made the expectations super high and almost win or bust.

“I know the results were good, but I feel they could’ve been better without a few driver errors, and if some cautions hadn’t happened.” Being able to find most of the little things that have been holding back speed has proved Lane’s knowledge base as a driver, and the team’s knowledge base has really developed. With two points titles at Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedway in reach, it’s focus time and all about bringing home the reward of a consistent season.

September will round out the Port Royal season for the team on the 5th as the limited late models join the Tuscarora 50 weekend. With a solid finish, Lane should lock up the points title there. Selinsgrove, the following weekend, will be a two-day show for the team as they look to race in the super division on Saturday (13th) and the limited division on Sunday (14th). Selinsgrove will again be on the schedule the next week on the 19th as the team again plans to run with the super late models. Bedford will round out the weekend on the 20th, as the team goes back to the limited division. The final week of the month will feature the final race of the limited season, and hopefully end with another title, at the Selinsgrove Speedway on the 26th.

Keep up to date with any schedule changes and results on the team’s website and social media. Thanks to all of the great partners and sponsors that have made this a truly stellar season, with more good things to hopefully come for the 23 car.

Austin Berry Focuses on Continuous Improvement Ahead of Speedweek

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Port Royal, PA – May 22, 2025

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Austin Berry kicked off his super late model season in mid-April, a little later than usual for the Mifflin, PA native in his 11th super late model season.  As he pulled into Port Royal Speedway in mid-May, he only had three races under his belt.

Berry was still in early season learning mode, working to determine what his Rocket Chassis No.86 wanted to achieve the speed and consistency he was looking for.  The quality fields that are the norm at Port Royal make for an unforgiving place for learning.  You have to be on your game from start to finish.

QUICK RESULTS:

  • Date/Location:  May 17, 2025 / Port Royal Speedway, Port Royal, PA
  • DivisionSuper Late Model
  • Stats: Heat 6th (3), A-main 15th (17)

Saturday night, was only Berry’s second visit of the season to Juniata County, Pennsylvania oval.  The night began with a little luck.  Berry was running 5th in his heat race when he cut a tire. Nevertheless, as a result of the misfortune of other drivers, he transferred to the A-main by virtue of officially finishing 6th.

Despite starting 17th in the feature, Berry used a solid half-dozen opening laps o quickly move up to the 12th position.  However, the middle portion of the race proved more challenging and he slipped back a few spots in his Tuscarora Restoration, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, Dye It Rite, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels No.86.

By the race’s end, Berry managed to regain momentum, finishing 15th. He noted that his lap times in the final stage were within two-tenths of a second of his quickest lap early in the race.

Reflecting on the race, Berry shared, “Overall, Saturday night was somewhat positive. We worked through some tightness in the car early on and discovered a few adjustments that could be beneficial moving forward. My conversations with Paul and the guys down at Rocket Chassis have equipped us with valuable insights; now, it’s a matter of applying them at the right times.”

“The way the car fired off the first few laps in the feature, I felt great.  I thought we were going to drive right up into the top ten.  I’m really not sure what happened in the middle of the race to be honest.  Might have been the car transitioning or maybe it was on me.”

UP NEXT

Looking ahead, Berry and his team have decided to take a weekend off from racing. This pause will allow them to regroup and focus on preparations for the upcoming Speedweek, where they plan to participate in the initial races at Clinton County and Port Royal.

The team will look to cash in on past successes at those tracks.  Berry recorded a podium finish at Clinton County in the 2023 Speedweek opener and he has numerous top ten finishes, including one victory, at Port Royal Speedway.

“I need to get a lot done at the house my wife and I are building, plus we want to be well-prepared for the opening races of Speedweek, so there will be plenty to do this weekend.”, Berry shared.

“Those first two races of Speedweek are a good opportunity for us to find our groove and get a couple good runs under our belt.  We’re looking forward to those.”

All season long, fans can keep up with Austin Berry Racing’s news, schedule and more at the team’s website, AustinBerryRacing.com, built by the great folks at My Race Pass!

Trever Feathers Suffers Yet Another Late-Race Heartbreak

Mechanicsville, MD – October 3, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit: Kevin Freer / WRT Speedwerx

Trever Feathers has an average finishing position of 8th in twenty-four super late model races this season.  He has finished in the top five in half of his races, including two wins, but he has performed even better than the stats show.  He has been leading or on the podium at least four times this season when a mechanical failure turned a great night into an expensive one.

It’s not just the cost of the repair, it’s the lost winnings.  The combination has led to a significant financial swing for the Winchester-based team which often tows two to three hours to be able to race their super late model.

Feathers maintains his own equipment with great care and attention to detail but regardless of how many long hours are spent in the shop, sometimes things happen that you have no control over.  That’s racing and that’s been the common thread through his 2024 season.

QUICK RESULTS

  • Date:  September 28, 2024
  • Event:  Hills Memorial
  • Class:  Super Late Model
  • LocationPotomac Speedway, Mechanicsville, MD
  • Stats:  23 cars, Qualifying 3rd, Heat 2nd (2), A-main DNF/15th (5)

HOW IT UNFOLDED

Potomac Speedway’s Hills Memorial event kicked off with time trials for the 23 cars on hand.  Feathers put himself in the mix early by ripping off the 3rd quickest lap in the field in his Team Zero Race Cars, Fox Racing Shox, Leggett Engine Research, North River Farm, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing No.27.

Feathers started 2nd in his 10-lap heat race and chased Ross Robinson for the duration of the race, finishing in the runner-up spot 1.1 seconds behind Robinson.

The lineup for the 30-lap finale put Feathers on the inside of row three.  He settled into the 5th spot through the midpoint of the event.

On lap eighteen Feathers surged into 3rd and began closing the gap on 2nd.  He was challenging for the runner-up spot when the caution appeared with less than ten laps remaining.

During the caution, a power steering line broke on Feathers’ No.27.  He attempted the restart but was forced to the sideline, ending his night.  He was officially 15th in the final rundown.

“That’s been the story of our year.”, a frustrated Feathers said.

“We’ve just had terrible luck.  Things happen…that’s racing and we know that’s a part of it.  It just hard to swallow when you work so hard, perform well and then issues happen at a point in the night when you can’t recover from it.  We’ve been good enough to have five or six wins this year but we only have two to show for our efforts.”

“We’ll move on, catch our breath, and keep working hard.”

UP NEXT

Feathers expects to hit the track a couple more times before calling the 2024 season a wrap but he has not determined his exact plans yet.

Stay tuned to Trever Feathers Racing’s social media outlets to be the first to know when schedule decisions are made!

Feathers Claims Curt Hershey Memorial Victory at Winchester

Winchester, VA – September 10, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit: Kevin Chapman / WRT Speedwerx

It had been three months since Trever Feathers was able to race his super late model on back-to-back nights thanks to the impacts of untimely weather throughout the summer months.

Appalachian Mountain Speedweek in early June was the last time he accomplished the feat.  Over this past weekend, Feathers not only got to race on consecutive nights, but he claimed a win instead of Mother Nature.

SHUT OUT IN PA

Feathers headed north on Friday for the $8,333-to-win Butch Renninger Memorial at Port Royal Speedway in Pennsylvania which had been rescheduled from the previous Saturday due to heavy rains.

In recent years, Feathers had finished second in the event on two occasions and was looking to finally better that and finally break into victory lane at ‘The Speed Palace’ in 2024.

A qualifying lap of 18.282 was good enough to rank Feathers 2nd in group one and give him the pole of his heat race.  He went on to lead every lap of the heat race, winning by 2.087 seconds over Mason Zeigler.

Friday’s feature lineup used a handicapping format for the top two finishers of each heat race.  Despite his qualifying effort and heat race win,  because he had missed the most recent point race at the speedway, Feathers had to line up 7th for the 33-lap main event.

“Our car was really good but during the caution my left rear tire sealed over and I started dropping like a rock.  Before that, I felt like I had a top-five car, maybe a podium if everything went our way.”, Feathers said.  “It got to a point where it made more sense just to drop out rather than waste more fuel and tires.”

BACK-TO-BACK AT HOME

Saturday night Feathers had a much shorter tow to race his Team Zero Race Cars, Fox Racing Shox, Leggett Engine Research, North River Farm, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing No.27 in front of his hometown crowd at Winchester Speedway in Virginia.

Feathers came out strong, posting the quickest lap in his group.  He backed it up by leading every lap and winning his heat race by a 4.429-second margin.

The Winchester, VA native, who owns track championships and numerous victories at his hometown track went on to dominate the 40-lap A-main.  From his starting spot on the outside of the front row, he led every lap and crossed the finish line over 8.5 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

When we won here in this car in August I thought we were just ok and I was in a good position to make the most of it.  We made some changes since last time and the car was really, really good tonight.  Much better than last time.”, Feathers commented.

“The car was fun to drive tonight.  I drove the last lap as hard as I did the first lap.  It’s been a while since I had a car that good.”

The victory was Feathers’ second in a super late model this season and third overall including his limited late model win earlier this year at Hagerstown Speedway.  He has finished in the top five of more than half of the features he has competed in this year.

UP NEXT

Feathers hasn’t nailed down his schedule for the next few weeks yet.  He does plan to compete in the Hills Memorial at Potomac Speedway on September 28th.

Trever Feathers Heating Up: Potomac Podium Is Fourth Top Five in Last Five Races

Mechanicsville, MD – September 4, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit: Kevin Freer / WRT Speedwerx

With his original plans to travel to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night to race the Butch Renninger Memorial washed out by rain, Trever Feathers went to his backup plan to get some laps under his belt over the weekend.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  August 17, 2024

  • Event:  Huey Wilcoxen Memorial
  • Class:  Super Late Model
  • Location:  Potomac Speedway, Mechanicsville, MD
  • Stats:  16 cars, Qualifying 5th, Heat 3rd (3rd), A-main 3rd (5th)

A LITTLE EXTRA

Feathers kicked off the Sunday night show with the 5th fastest qualifying lap overall in his red Team Zero Race Cars, Fox Racing Shox, Leggett Engine Research, North River Farm, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing No.27.

The Winchester, VA super late model veteran made some adjustments before his heat race and went on to claim a 3rd place finish in that race.  Feathers noted the car was better but not yet where it needed to be.

Feathers started 5th in the 30-lap Huey Wilcoxen Memorial main event.  Through the first nine laps, he rode in that position before taking advantage of a restart to blast into the 3rd spot.

Over the remaining nineteen laps Feathers chased leader Trevor Collins and 2nd place Dale Hollidge, pulling within striking distance more than once.  He wasn’t able to advance and settled for the 3rd place finish.

“We were there but we just weren’t quite fast enough to contend.  That’s been the story of our year.  When you run as many top-fives as we have we should have more wins than we do, but we just haven’t had that little extra to get us there.”, Feathers commented.

Feathers has accumulated eleven top-five finishes in twenty-one races but has only reached victory lane once.

“I got to them a couple times but my car wasn’t stable enough to make a move.  It’s our first time here (Potomac) with the 27 car.”, Feathers continued.  “We tried some things for qualifying but had to go back to what we knew worked.  We have always brought our other car so our notes are from those nights and this car just doesn’t adjust quite the same as the other one.”

UP NEXT

Feathers will return to Port Royal Speedway for the final time in 2024 to compete in the rescheduled Butch Renninger Memorial on Friday, September 6th.  The winner will earn a top prize of $7,333 plus lap money.

Saturday night Feathers will compete in the Curt Hershey Memorial at his Virginia hometown track, Winchester Speedway.

SEASON STATS

Feathers Finds Victory Lane, First Lee Stultz Memorial 4-Time Winner

Winchester, VA – August 20, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit: Kevin Chapman / WRT Speedwerx

Trever Feathers had planned to take last weekend off and spend his time preparing his Team Zero Race Cars, Fox Racing Shox, Leggett Engine Research, North River Farm, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing No.20 for the upcoming Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series event at Port Royal Speedway but after some consideration, he and the team made a nearly last-minute decision to load up their other Team Zero car, the No.27, and head to nearby Winchester (VA) Speedway for the Lee Stultz Memorial, an event Feathers had won three times since 2016.

Sometimes you shouldn’t second-guess yourself.  Sometimes you should stick to the plan.

This time, that wasn’t the case.  The change of plans turned out to be a good decision.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  August 17, 2024

  • Event:  Lee Stultz Memorial
  • Class:  Super Late Model
  • Location:  Winchester Speedway, Winchester, VA
  • Stats:  16 cars, Group Qualifying 1st, Heat 1st (1), A-main 1st (3)

FOR SCOTT

Feathers didn’t waste any time showing he was ready to go after the trophy Saturday night.  He set quick time in his group with a 15.164-second trip around the 3/8-oval.

He kept the momentum rolling in his heat race.  Starting from the pole, he took command from the drop of the green and never looked back, building a 5.5-second advantage by the end of the 10-lap qualifying event.

A “Climb to the Pole” event for the super late models pitted the top six qualifiers against each other, two at a time for two laps.  If a driver could continue to advance and win the final segment, they would earn the pole for the main event.  Feathers came away with the 3rd starting spot for the 40-lap finale.

Feathers claimed 2nd by lap two and went to work on cutting into the one-second lead Keith Jackson had quickly established.  By lap six he had reeled in the leader and was all over his rear bumper.

On lap nine the Winchester, VA native powered his way into the lead.  Feathers probably has more career laps at Winchester Speedway than anywhere, so he knew he couldn’t let up.  Things can change quickly.  When the checkered flag waived on the race, he crossed the line with a 3.425-second advantage.

“It’s good to finally get to victory lane this year, especially in a Team Zero Race Car the day after we lost Scott.”, Feathers commented, referring to the death of dirt late model hall of fame driver and legend in the sport, Scott Bloomquist, who died the day before in a plane crash on the Bloomquist family farm in Tennessee.

For those unfamiliar, Team Zero Race Cars is a Dirt Late Model chassis manufacturer owned by Bloomquist.

“Scott was a great racer but an even better person.  We were lucky enough to spend some time with him.  I wish everyone would have had the opportunity we did.  You come away with a different perspective on life.  We will miss him greatly.  The sport will miss him greatly.”

Feathers said he knew he had a really good car by lap three.  His No.27 would turn left off the cushion extremely well, giving him a good run off the corners.

“It means a lot to be the first four-time winner of this event.  I’ve known David Stultz my whole life.  My dad’s uncle raced one of his cars a while back.”

Feather’s father, Bo, has also won the event twice, which has been around since the 1980s.

“It’s been a tough year for us.  We have run well, led several races, but seem to have something happen that keeps us from finishing up front in the money.  I kept wondering what was going to happen this time.  Last week we finished second but then found oil pump issues after we got home, so it’s been an expensive year.  We’ve been running American Racer tires all year and that has helped save us enough money to be able to be here tonight.”

UP NEXT

Feathers will tow north to Port Royal Speedway to compete in the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series-sanctioned Rumble by the River at Port Royal Speedway on Friday and Saturday, August 23rd and 24th.

Friday night’s preliminary event pays $10,000 to the victor and Saturday’s finale pays a whopping $50,000 to top the field!

SEASON STATS

Super Late Model:  19 races, 1 wins, 10 top 5’s, 13 top 10’s, 16 top 15’s

Trever Feathers a Strong Second at Hagerstown, Victory Within Reach

Hagerstown, MD – August 13, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jason Walls / WRT Speedwerx

Trever Feathers has done everything a super late model driver can do to find victory lane this season but has yet to reap that reward.  It has been a season of very solid performances combined with heartbreaks.

Saturday night he unloaded at Hagerstown Speedway where he looked like a sure winner just a few weeks earlier, only to have a broken driveshaft end his quest a few laps short.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  August 1, 2024

  • Event:  Camp Barnes Benefit
  • Class:  Super Late Model
  • Location:  Georgetown Speedway, Georgetown, DE
  • Stats:  12 cars, Heat 5th (5), A-main 5th (10)

DATE:  August 10, 2024

  • Event:  Nathan Durboraw/Ronnie McBee Tribute
  • Class:  Super Late Model
  • Location:  Hagerstown Speedway, Hagerstown, MD
  • Stats:  29 cars, Qualifying 6th, Heat 2nd (2), Dash 4th (6), A-main 2nd (4)

PUSHING FORWARD

Feathers got the night started by spinning off the 6th quickest lap in qualifying to earn a front-row starting spot in his heat race.

By bringing home a runner-up finish in the heat race, Feathers earned a spot in the Dash.  He moved forward once again in that event, advancing from 6th to 4th in the six-lap race.

Feathers started 4th in the  41-lap finale and quickly grabbed the 3rd spot on the opening lap, trailing only leader Gregg Satterlee and polesitter Justin Weaver.  On lap 25, he finally worked his way around Weaver to claim the runner-up spot and set his sights on Satterlee who had built a substantial lead.

Although he was able to cut about 1.5 seconds off Satterlee’s cushion, it was too much to overcome in the non-stop race.  Virginia’s Feathers took the 2nd place finish 8 seconds behind Pennsylvania’s Satterlee at the well-known Maryland oval.

The solid run came just ten days after he logged a top-five finish at Georgetown Speedway’s Camp Barnes Benefit Race in Delaware.  Feathers has three top-five finishes in his last four races, with the lone exception being the night he dominated Hagerstown, leading until the driveshaft failure occurred.  He now owns five podium and nine top-five finishes in his 19 super late model races this season.

“Gregg (Satterlee) put an old-fashioned ass whooping on us tonight.”, Feathers said.

“We needed a caution to help us close the gap to have a shot.  He (Satterlee) was better than us tonight though, so I don’t know that it would have made a difference.  I was decent throughout the race and when my tires came in I got a little better but I never felt great.  I’m happy to get 2nd because I didn’t feel like we were that good.”

“I wasn’t leading tonight, so of course, there were no cautions”, Feathers laughed, referring to having to endure a series of cautions every time he led a race this year.

“Last year after we got back in our car it seemed like we could do no wrong; everything fell our way.  This year that hasn’t been the case.  The breaks have worked against us.  I have led three races but couldn’t close the deal.  Started on the front row of another and blew up coming to the green.  That’s how our year has gone.”

“That’s racing though.  We know that.  We’re going to keep showing up, keep working hard, and the wins will come again.”

UP NEXT

Upon returning to the shop Saturday night, Feathers discovered an issue with the oil pump on his Team Zero Race Cars, Fox Racing Shox, Leggett Engine Research, North River Farm, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing No.20.  Resolving that issue will be first on the agenda this week, then the team will begin preparations for the Lucas Oil Late Models Rumble by the River event at Port Royal Speedway on August 23rd and 24th.

SEASON STATS

Super Late Model:  18 races, 0 wins, 9 top 5’s, 12 top 10’s, 15 top 15’s

Heartbreak in Hagerstown: Feathers Had Victory in Sight at Sagi Tribute

Hagerstown, MD – July 30, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jason Walls / WRT Speedwerx

After enjoying a weekend off, Trever Feathers and his team returned to action Sunday night at Hagerstown Speedway in the Frank Sagi Tribute.

Feathers piloted a special wrap sporting the throwback 2012 wrap of Jeremy Miller’s No.1m.

In a special moment prior to the night’s action, race promotor Alan Sagi, Feathers and father Bo Feathers surprised Miller with the tribute wrap.

When Feathers finally hit the track, he put a smile on Miller’s face again with a stellar performance right out of the gate.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  July 28, 2024

  • Event:  Frank Sagi Tribute
  • Class:  Super Late Model
  • Location:  Hagerstown Speedway, Hagerstown, MD
  • Stats:  36 cars, Group A Qualifying 1st, Heat 1st (1), Twin-20 #1 16th (1), Twin-20 #2 DNS

WAITING FOR SOME LUCK

Feathers set the tone early by ripping off the quickest lap in Group A qualifying with an 18.511 second trip around the half-mile.  It was good enough to place him fastest overall as well.

Dylan Yoder pressured Feathers for the lead during the opening laps of the heat race.  He survived the battle and eventually pulled away by a few car lengths for the win.

From the pole position, Feathers took command of the race at the drop of the green.  On lap six Mason Zeigler wrestled the lead away on lap six but it was short lived when his No.25z suffered a flat tire on lap eight.

With the lead back in hand, Feathers made sure to distance himself enough to prevent any further challenges.  He pulled away and appeared well on his way to victory in the first of the two 20-lap features that make up the Frank Sagi Tribute race.

With just under four laps remaining that all changed quickly.  The drive shaft on Feather’s machine broke in turn three, ending his race.  The failure caused enough collateral damage the Winchester, VA resident was not able to make repairs to return for the second feature either.

“First off I’d like to say thank you to Alan Sagi for everything he does for racing in general but also for the Frank Sagi tribute race. He does so much for the event and for racing in our area. Since 2017 that event is special and will continue to be special. Very thankful for him and including me in with the Tuesday test session with Danny Dietrich.  For me it was an awesome experience to be a part of.”, Feathers said.

“We had a really good Shane McDowell Racing, Team Zero Bloomquist car and we were putting a night together that we haven’t been able to in a while. To be able to make Jeremy Miller smile with the car made the night completely worth it.  Also, thanks to every person that keeps our team going, we will keep chugging along and wait for our luck to get a little better.”

Veteran racers know what this sport is like.  There are highs and lows and Feathers knows how to navigate them.  If he keeps running like this, the wins will come again, probably in bunches.

“Too dumb to quit…that’s what it boils down to I guess.”, Feathers said with a laugh.

THE WEEK AHEAD

It will be a very busy short week in the shop.  The drive shaft and lift arm are broken from Sunday’s failure but there is also other damage that occurred as a result.  Feathers needs to determine what work needs to be done and what parts need to be replaced before he can set his plans in cement for the coming weekend.

If repairs can be made, Feathers hopes to travel to Georgetown Speedway in Delaware on August 1st for the Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race.  He owns two top five super late model finishes in three starts there so far this season in his Team Zero Race Cars, Fox Racing Shox, Leggett Engine Research, North River Farm, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing No.20.

Tentatively the team is also aiming to join the super late models at Port Royal Speedway on August 3rd.  A final decision will be made later this week.  Stay tuned to Trever’s social media outlets listed below for updates.

Feathers has an average finishing position of 8.3 thus far in his super late model season at tracks across Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, but he is still seeking his first win of the year in the highly competitive division.

GOTTA GET A GRIP

Feathers made the tow to Georgetown Speedway in Delaware Thursday night where he has supported the track’s events this season.  Aside from supporting regional super late model racing, it’s also a place he sees as a challenge that can help make his team better.

“We’ve struggled in the slick this year, something we haven’t had issues with in the past, so I keep coming back here (to Georgetown) because if we can get a hold of this place, we’ll know we’ve figured out our problem.”, Feathers shared.

Thursday’s show used a combined hot lap/time trial session to set the field for a feature-only program.

Feathers started and finished 3rd, navigating a tricky surface that had recently suffered from a lot of rain.

“I had a couple runs at (Donald) Lingo for second but I made a mistake and lost my shot at that, so I just gathered it back up and made sure I got it in the trailer in one piece.”, Feathers said.

Saturday night in his hometown of Winchester, VA, Feathers’ ride was adorned with the No.91 in honor of his great uncle at the Jimmy Spence Memorial at Winchester VA Speedway.

Thanks to the efforts of Feather’s cousin J.T. Spence and his uncle Jimmy McFarland, the annual event offered $6,091 to the winner, bonuses for heat race winners, and more.  The race is a family affair and means a lot to everyone who puts in a lot of hard work to honor the late Jimmy Spence.

A strong field of 29 drivers was on hand to do battle for the extra cash.  Heats were set by group time trials with a four-car inversion.  Feathers set quick time in his group, putting him outside row two to start the heat race.

“I think my knowledge of this place got us the quick time there.”, Feathers said.  “The car wasn’t great but I know how to get around here and help it a little.”

Feathers and 3rd place starter Kyle Hardy waged an entertaining battle in the heat race, with Feathers coming out on top to take the win and earn the 3rd starting spot for the 51-lap feature event.

In the early going, Feathers held serve in 3rd while everyone settled in for the extra-distance feature.  Although he slipped back a couple of spots, he held on inside the top five throughout the race and eventually took the checkered flag in 5th.

“The track got really slick in the feature, so my car struggled a little again.”, Feathers commented.  “I probably should’ve finished worse than I did.  We’ll keep working on it and get this thing figured out so we can get back to where we were late last year with this car when we went on a tear.  We’re gonna do some testing tomorrow.”

UP NEXT

Wednesday night, July 3rd, Feathers will head to Potomac Speedway in Maryland for the Gene VanMeter Memorial super late model race.

Saturday night, July 6th, the team will return to Port Royal Speedway when the super late models join the Pennsylvania Speedweek program for the sprint cars.
