Hart’s Stellar Year Continues With Emotional Win and Track Championship

Hagerstown’s Small Car Nationals Up Next

Port Royal, PA – September 12, 2023

Devin Hart said two things coming into the 2023 season.

First, his main goal was to win the Butch Renninger Memorial, a race held annually at Port Royal Speedway in honor of his grandfather.  A win in that personally important race has eluded him in his first nine years in a limited late model.

Second, he had no plans to race for points.  Instead, he would race where it made sense for his team and they would take a shot at some of the bigger races when they could.

You might think we’re about to tell you he accomplished his goals.  Well, you’re right.  He did.  But in doing so, he managed to win a points championship too.

FINALLY!

Hart has raced a limited late model since 2014 and he has won a lot of races at Port Royal Speedway during the years since he started, but in nine attempts to win the Butch Renninger Memorial he had not been able to be the first one to the checkered flag.

He certainly had been close though.  As a matter of fact, his stats are astoundingly good in the race.  In his first nine attempts at the Renninger Memorial Hart had finished on the podium five times and in the top five a total of seven times.

He just had not won it yet.  Hart didn’t think it was possible to want to win it more than he did but the desire grew deeper every time he came up just short.

With 31 cars on hand, there were plenty of good teams who were there with the same goal.  Hart made it clear in his heat race he was ready to give it his best shot again.  He drove from 4th to the lead on the opening lap and never looked back, taking the win by 3.2 seconds in his Lucky Buck, Hungry Run Wine Cellars, FK Rod Ends, JDS Racing, Penske Racing Shocks, Barron’s Racing Engines, Centre Boot Company, Gridiron Pizza & Gridiron Pub, Harling’s Hoagies, Brown’s Automotive, Rocket Chassis XR1 No.33k.

Hart started 3rd in the 25-lap feature event and jumped into 2nd on the opening lap.  For the next 18 trips around the Juniata County Fairgrounds half-mile oval, he pursued leader Spike Moore, trying to find a way to the top spot.  With nine laps remaining he pulled alongside Moore and the race was on in lapped traffic.

On lap twenty he made the pass by driving under Moore into turn three to take command of the race.  Only five laps, 2.5 miles, remained between Hart and the goal that mattered more to him than anything in racing.  While he tried to hit his marks and keep Moore at bay, his entire family held their collective breath.

With four laps remaining, the caution lights flashed on and forced Hart to deal with a restart.

Hart survived the restart and drove a smooth final three laps.

Finally, it happened.  Hart crossed the line first, with a 1.282 second advantage, to win his grandfather’s race.

I can’t believe this just happened.”, an emotional Hart said as he was congratulated by cousin Trent Brenneman in victory lane.  Brenneman, who is also family to the late Butch Renninger, had also come up short on winning the race over the years and shared in Hart’s desire to someday win it.

I can’t believe we just won this thing.  Every year everyone tells Trent and me it’s just another race but it’s not.  You can’t come in here with that mentality.  I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work.“, Hart explained to Port Royal Speedway announcer Brad Strawser.

My whole family is here every year making this race happen.  This is the 20th year now remembering my pap.  Everybody knows what a great guy he was around these fairgrounds.  I have to thank everyone on my crew, my family who always supports me, and of course my wife who lets me do this every week.

THE UNPLANNED CHAMPIONSHIP

As Hart had stated in March of this year, he had no plans to race for points.  He had been there and done that before.  He won the track championship at both Port Royal Speedway and Selinsgrove Speedway in 2021.  This year he was thinking more about winning at tracks he had not won at before and hopefully winning a couple of the bigger events he had not won before.

By April 7th this year, Hart already had wins at Winchester (VA), Port Royal (PA) and Bedford (PA).  He ventured to Hagerstown (MD) on April 8th and qualified up front before the show rained out.

The way the schedule worked out, Hart’s option on April 15th was Hagerstown.  He finished 3rd that night.  On May 6th he returned to Hagerstown because they were running the makeup feature from April 8th that he had already qualified for, plus a full show.  That night he collected a win and a runner up finish.

The season reached mid-June and Hart had already raced six times at Hagerstown, versus two at Port Royal, plus a few other one-off races.  It was all a result of rain outs and scheduling options, but the bottom line was that Hart was now in command of the point standings at Hagerstown.

He was also on top at Port Royal, so Hart figured he would pick the races he wanted to run, where ever they were, and things would shake out on their own.

One of the races Hart wanted to win in July was a Steel Block Bandits race, which was…where else…Hagerstown.  He gave it a shot and finished 2nd in that race.

Ultimately, Hart rolled into Hagerstown Speedway on September 1st for their final points races of the season looking to clinch the championship that he never intended to pursue.

He didn’t back into the title either.  That night he drove from 4th to 1st to win his heat, then led every lap of the feature to clinch the title with his third win there this season.  Hart’s worst finish in eleven races at the Maryland facility coming into that night was 5th, and he had only been off the podium two times in those eleven races.  He had been astoundingly consistent.

We never set out to do this but the way things fell into place, when we reached mid-summer, I figured why not try to win one here.  It was something I had not done before, so I’m pretty proud of that, especially when we were able to clinch it with a win and run so consistently here all year.”, Hart shared.

Trever Feathers Scores Convincing Victory at Port Royal

Limited Late Model Racing Planned This Weekend

Port Royal, PA – September 12, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Info:  Three Generations: Bo [L], Trever [C] and Wayne Feathers [R] in victory lane at Port Royal Speedway after Trever’s win on 9/8/23

Since debuting his Team Zero Bloomquist by Shane McDowell ride in early July, Trever Feathers had accumulated an average finish of 4.8 at Port Royal Speedway over a span of five main events.

That’s quite an improvement over his average finish of 14th in his first six races of the season at ‘The Speed Palace’, which were in a different chassis brand.

Feathers had nabbed one victory back in early August and as he headed to Port Royal for the final super late model race of the season on September 2nd, his sights were set solely on getting another one.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  September 8, 2023

  • Event:  Final Points Race
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  18 cars, Qualifying 3rd, A-main 1st (4)

BEATING THE WEATHER

Threatening weather combined with a rare Friday night race at Port Royal Speedway as part of the Night Before the 50 program left the Central Pennsylvania oval with a lower than usual car count in the super late model pit area.  That said, the phrase quality over quantity came to mind as the field contained the usual tough competitors such as Eckert, Yoder, Rine, and Stuhler.

The weather also played a role in the format for the night.  Teams were presented with an option to time trial and race a feature, skipping the usual heat races.  The plan would give teams a much better chance of completing their feature and earning a paycheck, rather than drag the program out and risk getting rained out.  The plan was adopted and set into motion.

Feathers got his night off on the right foot by ripping around the big fairgrounds half-mile in 19.024 seconds, good enough for 3rd quickest in his McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, Feathers & Sons Roofing, North River Farm, Leggett Engine Research, Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Team Zero Race Cars, Shane McDowell Racing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Fox Racing Shox, Bo Feathers Racing, Clem’s Garage, No.20.

IN CONVINCING FASHION

The format called for a 6-car inversion for the feature, so Feathers took his spot outside row two for the 25-lap main event.  From the drop of the green, he assumed the runner-up spot behind leader Drake Troutman.  That pursuit continued to the halfway point of the race, with Feathers alongside Troutman’s No.7 several times but unable to lead at the line.

The caution appeared for a lapped car that spun in turn four right in front of the side by side Troutman/Feathers battle.  Both drivers were able to avoid the spinning car but then under caution, Troutman’s No.7 rolled to a stop on the high side of turn three with a mechanical issue.

With a few light, intermittent sprinkles floating down from the sky, the race resumed.  Feathers was in command and he would not be challenged.  He drove away from the field to a dominating win by 4.123 seconds over Dylan Yoder who was followed across the line by Rick Eckert, Jeff Rine and Hayes Mattern.

This car has been unbelievable.  The information we are getting from Shane McDowell and Bryan Conrad, Chris Ferguson’s dad, has been huge.  It’s so much fun to drive.“, Feathers said.

I wanted to slide him (Drake Troutman) into three but he was carrying so much speed I figured that wouldn’t work, so I just kept the pressure on him hoping he would slip up.  I hate that for him that he broke.  He’s a really good kid.  It’s fun racing with him.  It’s hard to believe he’s only 18 years old.  He races us clean and we race him with respect too.” Feathers shared when asked about his door to door racing with the young Troutman.

Feathers, a third generation racer, was joined in victory lane by his father and grandfather, Bo and Wayne Feathers.  Both have solid racing resumes of their own.

Thank you to Shane and Sarah McDowell, Bryan Conrad, my uncle Jimmy, my granddad, Larry and Lisa Royston, my mom and dad, all my guys who work so hard all week long.  I also want to thank Rick Leggett and John Coffelt for making us look good.

Last but not least, I want to give a huge thank you to Barnes Custom Painting in the Winchester, VA area.  They helped us immensely with our tire bill this week and we greatly appreciate that.  It takes everyone who helps us for us to do what we do.  We don’t take any of our partners for granted.

MOVING ON UP

The win moved Feathers into 2nd in the Championship Point Standings to finish the season behind the 2023 Champion, Eckert.

It was a big night for us…to end the season that way with a win and move into second in the final points.  Both pay pretty well, so that definitely helps us out financially.  We appreciate what Port Royal (Speedway) does for teams.“, Feathers commented.

UP NEXT

Tuesday night, September 12th, Feathers will appear live on The NEW Turn 5 Turn Around‘s Facebook show at 6:30pm EST when the show visit the Feathers Racing’s shop as part of their series of race shop visits.  You will hear about the team’s recent speed, upcoming plans and more!

When the weekend comes, as he did a few times in recent years, Feathers will strap into Brad Omps Limited Late Model this weekend at Winchester Speedway in Virginia on Friday night.  The pair might travel to Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland on Saturday night for the Small Car Nationals but a firm decision has not been made yet.

Kody Hartlaub Bounces Back Saturday at Lincoln After Costly Mistake Friday at Williams Grove

Team Returning to Williams Grove September 15th for Next 358 Race

Abbottstown, PA – September 11, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

The month of September opened with yet another two-race weekend for Kody Hartlaub.  After an impressive top ten run in his 410 sprint car the week before, this time it was all about his team’s primary focus this year, the 358 sprint car.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  September 1, 2023

  • Division:  358 Sprint Cars
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Stats:  28 cars, Heat 6th (8), A-main 19th (17)

DATE:  September 2, 2023

  • Division:  358 Sprint Cars
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Stats:  24 cars, Heat 2nd (3), A-main 2nd (9)

PAYING THE PRICE

Hartlaub was among a field of 28 drivers set to do battle Friday night, September 1st at Williams Grove Speedway.  The heat lineups were set using a handicapping system, which put point leader Hartlaub outside the fourth row.  That improved to outside row three when two lesser experienced drivers opted to start at the rear of the field.

By the time one lap was complete, Hartlaub was already 4th and poised for more when the caution appeared.  On the ensuing restart, he dove into turn one but the hole he thought he saw closed quickly.

With little time to adjust, Hartlaub spun and was collected another car.  He pushed off and restarted at the back of the pack, but the car was wounded.  He managed to finish 6th to transfer into the A-main in the J Fuels, Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Hartlaub’s Furniture, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.95.

There was significant damage to the front suspension but with help from Steve Owings, Doug Hammaker and others, the team patched the car back together to put Hartlaub on track for the feature.

Hartlaub’s car wasn’t its competitive self though and the East Berlin, PA driver just survived to salvage a 19th place finish.

I made a mistake and paid for it.“, Hartlaub said of the misjudged passing attempt in the heat race.  “I owe a big thanks to Steve Owings, Doug Hammaker and everyone else that came down to help us salvage what we could in the feature.

Upon returning to the shop late Friday night, the team spent several hours swapping their 358 motor into their 410 sprint car so they could race at Lincoln Saturday night.

A MUCH BETTER DAY

Saturday night, September 2nd, brought 24 teams to Lincoln Speedway and a pill draw put Hartlaub in row two for his heat race.  He quickly secured a handicap spot for the feature with a 2nd place finish in the qualifying race.

The handicapping system put Hartlaub 9th on the grid for the 20-lap A-main.  In a steady, workmanlike effort, he methodically chipped his way toward the front, breaking into the top five on lap eleven.

A few laps later, Hartlaub claimed 3rd and on the final circuit took the runner up spot away from veteran Frankie Herr.

It was Hartlaub’s 12th top five finish in 20 starts this season in the 358 sprint car ranks.

Thank you to my crew, Kevin And Stacy Hartlaub, Austin Funk, Pat Brewer, and David Hartlaub Jr. for the long hours to get it turned around so we could be here tonight.“, Harlaub said.

UP NEXT

Hartlaub will return to action at a two-race weekend at Williams Grove Speedway on September 15th, followed by Lincoln Speedway September 16th.

SEASON STATS

358 SPRINTS:  20 races, 2 wins, 12 top 5’s, 17 top 10’s, 18 top 15’s

Keen’s Roller Coaster Season Tests Team Again

Done for Year, Focus Turns to 2024 Preparation

Abbottstown, PA – September 8, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Keen entered September coming off a top five finish at Lincoln Speedway and only wanted one thing:  to put together a complete weekend.

That was something that had been tough to accomplish in 2023.  It seemed every good run had been followed by issues so far this season.

Williams Grove and Lincoln Speedways were set to provide Keen with the opportunity to change that pattern as the season entered the home stretch.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  September 1, 2023

  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  28 cars, Heat 2nd (1), A-main 8th (4)

DATE:  September 2, 2023

  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  24 cars, Heat DNF (2), A-main DNS

WEEKEND KICKOFF

Williams Grove attracted a field of 28 cars Friday night for their regular 358 sprint car show.  The heat lineups were set using a handicap format, which put Kyle Keen and his Fine Line Auto Body, Keen Parts/CorvetteParts.net, Doubling Gap Ranch, Shetron, Auction & Equipment, LLC., Wicked Dog Grille, Heishman Racing Fuels, Wicked Cushion, DL Lehman Construction, Gearhead Coffee, Jeremy Zarfos Photography, Coyle’s Lawn Maintenance, 2B Wrapped, 4 Leaf Clover Farms, Turn 2 Terribles Podcast & Media, Kyle Keen Motorsports No.17k on the pole as a result of his partial schedule at the track.

On the initial start, Keen was called for jumping the start and was penalized to 3rd for the second attempt to start the race.  He quickly drove back into 2nd and began to challenge the leader but couldn’t get past and settled for the runner-up finish.

Keen lined up 4th for the 20-lap feature and immediately charged into 2nd as the field entered turn three on the opening lap.  At the halfway point, the Carlisle, PA native was in 4th.  He was still holding down that spot with six laps remaining when the caution lights flashed on.

On the ensuing restart, Keen’s No.17k was not the same.  He slipped backwards in the closing laps and finished 8th.

Not sure what happened on the restart, but the car went completely away.  It was like the tires sealed over.  I lost all grip.”, Keen shared.

Disappointed we went backwards the last few laps after having such a strong run going.  Was scratching my head after the restart, but we’ll notch another top 10 under our belt and keep moving forward.”

NOT AGAIN

Keen was looking to put together a full weekend of positive results when he rolled into Lincoln Speedway Saturday night on the heels of Friday’s top ten finish at Williams Grove.

Unfortunately, once again he encountered some tough luck.  After starting 2nd in his heat race, Keen was involved in an accident that destroyed the team’s only remaining car.

The incident not only put an end to Keen’s night, it put an end to his season.

The 17k will sadly be done for the remainder of the season and we will turn our attention to preparing for 2024.  I want to say thank you to all our friends, family and sponsors who work so hard to keep our race car on the racetrack.“, Keen said.

I’m really disappointed because I felt the last few weeks, we have shown some pretty good speed.  There are some exciting things happening for next year we can’t wait to share with everyone.

SEASON STATS

16 races, 0 wins, 2 top 5’s, 5 top 10’s, 7 top 15’s

TRIVIA QUESTION

The answer to the last trivia question is Kyle Keen played football and basketball in high school!

Berry Having Success and Fun Finishing Season in Limited Late Model

After Two Top Fives, Team Looking To Race More Limited Shows Before Season Ends

Selinsgrove, PA – September 7, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

August was an especially tough month for Austin Berry.  After two blown super late model engines in three weeks, he had to put an unplanned early end to his super late model season.

A couple days later his phone rang.  A friend was offering the use of his spare limited late model engine.  Berry said thank you but passed on the offer.  He didn’t want to risk anything happening to the engine on his watch.

The friend called two more times that week and the last time didn’t take no for answer.

  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway

DATE:  September 3, 2023

  • Event:  Labor Day Special
  • Track:  Selinsgrove Speedway
  • City, State:   Selinsgrove, PA
  • Division:  Limited Late Model
  • Quick Stats:  25 cars, Heat 1st (6), A-main 2nd (3)

NEW BUT FAMILIAR

Berry entered his first career night of limited late model competition with uncertainties about how his car’s setup would need to differ from what he was used to with more power under the hood and how his driving style might need to change to make The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance / Stock Car Steel & Aluminum, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis, Austin Berry Racing No.86 competitive.

The format for the Butch Renninger Memorial at Port Royal Speedway tossed Berry into the deep end of the pool from the start.  Group time trials during hot laps meant no practice, no time to adjust.

Berry turned the 5th quickest lap in his group, then used the time before his heat race to make adjustments.  He made the right moves and drove from 5th to 3rd in his heat race.

Rolling to the green from the 10th position for the 25 lap main event, Berry went right to work moving toward the front.  He cracked the top five just past the halfway mark of the race.  He secured a 4th place finish in the closing laps to take home a top five finish in his first attempt in the division.

LOOKING PRETTY COMFORTABLE

With a very solid first night under his belt, Berry decided to make the trip north on Route 35 the following night to Selinsgrove Speedway.

Berry quickly proved his first night was no fluke.  From his 6th starting spot in his 8-lap heat race, he drove into 2nd on lap two and on lap seven he claimed the lead.  He went on to take his first limited late model heat race win.

The redraw put Berry on the inside of row two for the 20-lap main event.  He settled into the runner up spot during the opening laps then jumped into an early lead.

Berry survived several restarts during the race, keeping Coleby Frye at bay.  On the final restart with just six laps remaining, Frye wrestled the lead away and Berry settled for a 2nd place finish.

UP NEXT

Two top five finishes in his first two career limited late model starts has Berry looking for opportunities to race a few of the bigger, late season limited races that typically offer an increased purse.  With two super late model motors to repair this offseason, making a little cash instead of sitting at home makes sense.

Stay tuned to Austin’s social media outlets and Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for schedule updates and announcements.

News Coming Soon on PanCan Raffle Items and 2024 Season Kickoff Party Tickets

With the season coming to a close, Berry will be raffling off the team’s tail banner that has been used all season to cover the rear suspension of the car, plus his special edition Pancreatic Cancer Awareness racing gloves.  Details will be coming soon on how to enter.  All proceeds will go to charity.

In January, Austin Berry Racing will host their annual season kickoff party which features great food, prizes and a live band.  The popular event sold out last year with just over 300 fans attending.  It was a fun event for all who attended and a big success for the team.  Stay tuned for more information about that event in the coming months.

Feathers Second in Renninger Memorial After Chess Match With Satterlee

Up Next, Final Super Late Model Race of Season at Port Royal Speedway September 8th

Port Royal, PA – September 6, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Info:  Trever Feathers [L] finished 2nd to Gregg Satterlee [C].  Rick Eckert [R] was 3rd.

Trever Feathers has turned his team’s performance around in 2023 since making the change to a Team Zero Bloomquist chassis with the support of Shane McDowell, but the Winchester, VA driver is still working hard to be a top regional contender.

Last week he missed the field by one spot for the Lucas Oil Late Models event, something he had not done in a long time.  That’s the kind of thing that drives Feathers.  He knows he and his team are capable of competing at the highest level, but with their limited resources there is no margin for error.  They have to be on top of everything on and off the track to race at the top of the regional and national fields they take on.

Last weekend Feathers was back at Port Royal Speedway to continue putting in the work toward that end goal.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  September 2, 2023

  • Event:  Butch Renninger Memorial
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  34 cars, Qualifying 8th in Group A, Heat 2nd (4), A-main 2nd (1)

RECOVERING FROM AN EARLY STUMBLE

One thing Trever Feathers hasn’t lacked lately is speed.  He has been quick in the McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, Feathers & Sons Roofing, North River Farm, Leggett Engine Research, Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Team Zero Race Cars, Shane McDowell Racing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Fox Racing Shox, Bo Feathers Racing, Clem’s Garage, No.20.

That made his 8th quickest lap in Group A qualifying at Saturday night’s Butch Renninger Memorial at Port Royal Speedway that much more frustrating.  Timing well is vital with such stiff competition.

A clogged fuel filter had caused Feathers engine to stumble during his time under the clock, so he would have to work out of that hole to have a shot at the $7,333 top prize later in the night.

Feathers started the recovery with a solid 2nd place run from his outside row two starting spot in his heat race.  That effort put him in the redraw, which quickly paid dividends.  He drew the pole for the 33-lap main event.  Even given that advantage, with names like Satterlee, Eckert, Stone, Lingo, Emory and Cosner breathing down his neck, it would be no walk in the park.

KEEP HIM IN THE CROSSHAIRS

Feathers took the top spot on the opening lap, but Gregg Satterlee was pressuring him from the drop of the green.  Satterlee pulled alongside on lap two and beat Feathers to the line to lead the lap by less than half a second.

Satterlee held the top spot with Feathers hot on his heels for the next 31 laps.  The pair diced through traffic for a large part of the race, with Feathers never more than a second back and often right on the rear corner of Satterlee’s No.22.

Feathers mostly stuck to the bottom groove, making time off the corners and occasionally using the middle to navigate traffic.  Satterlee used the top of the speedway and sometimes the middle.

With five laps remaining, Satterlee moved to the low line and seemed to take away any advantage Feathers had.  At the finish line it was Satterlee over Feathers by a mere 0.7 seconds.

I was trying to keep him (Satterlee) honest.  We missed it a little bit, so I couldn’t get through the center and exit (the corner) the way I needed to really give him a fight.“, Feathers said.  “I probably should have tried the top with five to go after he moved downI was zeroed in on closing the gap because I was pretty good on the bottom.  Probably missed an opportunity there.

I feel like that’s the best we have been up here (Port Royal) so we’re going the right direction.  I gotta thank Shane McDowell, Sarah McDowell, Team Zero Race Cars by Shane, my uncle Jimmy and my granddad.  They have done so much for me the past six months.

UP NEXT

Feathers will return to Port Royal Speedway for this Friday’s final super late model race of the season at the Juniata County Fairgrounds.

Reinhardt Impressive With Three Top Fives for Grove Racing In Ohio

Team Carrying Momentum Into Lucrative Tuscarora 50 Weekend

Orrville, OH – September 6, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Reinhardt has been turning heads since he joined the Grove Racing team in mid-August.  They have been consistently fast and in the thick of the battle every night.

The next step for Reinhardt and the team is to consistently get the finishes they are capable of.  The two day Attica Ambush with the All Star Circuit of Champions was their next chance to check that box and they did.

SEND IT!

Reinhardt rolled into Attica Raceway Park along with 35 other teams to open the month of September.

The third-mile oval has challenged Reinhardt in his handful of starts there, but he opened this night by turning in the quickest lap in his group and transferring through his heat to earn a spot in the Dash.

While the redraw wasn’t friendly to Reinhardt, handing him the 8th starting spot for the 6-lap race, he overcame it with a charge to a 4th place finish.

Going from outside row two in the 35-lap A-main, Reinhardt made it clear from the drop of the green that he was going to be a factor.  By lap four he was in the runner up spot and challenging leader Kerry Madsen.

Reinhardt dogged Madsen for the next 25 circuits but couldn’t get by.  Following a late restart, he went for it.  He dove low into turn one, but Madsen slammed the door late.  The Neptune City, NJ native nearly spun but was able to gather his No.45 up and get back in the gas.

The lost momentum was enough for Tyler Courtney to slip by.  With only a few laps remaining, Reinhardt wasn’t able to reclaim the spot and settled for a 3rd place finish.

DEFINITELY ON THE RIGHT TRACK

Saturday’s $12,000 to win Attica Ambush finale drew a field of 38 teams to try to collect a big payday.

Reinhardt proved Friday was no fluke.  He kicked off Saturday night’s qualifying by ripping the quickest lap in his group in the Grove Racing, Capitol Renegade, Bakers Mobile Home Transport, Coors Banquet Beer, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.45.

Reinhardt once again transferred through his heat and put himself and his team in the Dash.  He wasn’t able to gain any track position through the dash, but in the 40-lap A-main, he moved forward.

From the 8th starting spot, Reinhardt worked his way to the 4th spot by lap eight.  He was unable to climb further but held a firm grasp on 4th all the way to the checkered flag.

We came out of the Ambush with a P3 and a P4.  My best showing at Attica for sure.“, Reinhardt said.  “Caught the yellows at the wrong time on Friday.  Laid it all out (on Friday night) and went for it (the win) but ended up paying the price.”

I’m excited to keep rolling with this Grove Racing No.45!”

PASS 'EM TWICE IF YOU HAVE TO

The Grove Racing team and Reinhardt traveled to Wayne County Speedway on Sunday night for the $10,000 to win Pete Jacobs Memorial.

The 37-car field was split into two flights for qualifying.  Reinhardt timed 10th quickest in his group, putting him 5th on the grid for his heat race.

The team’s adjustments following time trials were on point and Reinhardt quickly charged from 5th to a 2nd place finish.

Reinhardt started 10th in the 30-lap A-main and immediately went on the charge.  By lap two he was passing for 7th when contact in traffic got him out of shape on the backstretch and dropped him to 14th in the running order.

Knowing he had a very good race car; Reinhardt went right back to work.  He broke into the top ten again on lap twelve.  His march continued as he cracked the top five on lap twenty one.

When the dust finally settled, Reinhardt was 2nd.  It was a great run but a missed opportunity too, he felt.

Really happy with our speed but a bit disappointed with this finish to be honest.  Had a great start and was already up three spots and got turned on the backstretch.  Dropped to 14th and raced all the way back to 2nd, so a great run overall.“, Reinhardt said.

Hopefully we can carry this momentum into Port Royal for the Tuscarora 50 week.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2023 season.

Kyle can be contacted via [email protected].

UP NEXT

Reinhardt and the Grove Racing No.45 team will head to Port Royal Speedway for a three day program that culminates with the 56th Annual Tuscarora 50 which will award the winner with $56,000.

Follow Reinhardt’s social media channels listed below or check Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the latest schedule updates.

Berry Forced to End Super Late Model Season After Back to Back Weeks With Engine Issues

Team Will Enter Limited Late Model Division at the Butch Renninger Memorial

Port Royal, PA – August 31, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Austin Berry knew making the Lucas Oil Late Model Series Rumble by the River finale at his home track, Port Royal Speedway, would be challenging, especially given he was down on horsepower with his number two engine under the hood.

Racers don’t sit at home though.  They give it their all and work to find a way.

Maybe with the tough luck he has had this season he was due for a break and things would go his way.  You don’t know until you try.

DATE:  August 25, 2023

  • Event:  Rumble By the River Prelim
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  52 cars, Qualifying 22nd, Heat 8th (8), A-main 14th (22)

Momentary Optimism

A large, quality field of 52 super late model teams signed in to compete on the preliminary night of the two day Rumble by the River Lucas Oil Late Model event at Port Royal Speedway on Friday, August 25th.

Berry’s night started off with a good pill draw which put him 3rd in the qualifying order.  Traditionally an early qualifying opportunity provides the best track conditions.  Unfortunately, the combination of a horsepower shortage and a missed setup landed Berry 22nd of the 26 cars in his group.

The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance / Stock Car Steel & Aluminum, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis, Austin Berry Racing No.86 lined up 8th for the heat race but couldn’t gain any track position and finished in the same spot.

Berry and the team continued to adjust and try to get better for the 25-lap main event.  Every position gained would improve their position for Saturday’s heat races and give them a shot at racing their way into the $50,000 to win finale.

Berry started 22nd in the A-main.  From the drop of the green he went right to work chipping his way forward and by lap seventeen he had moved into 14th.  The progress stalled there but it was a solid effort to recover from a poor qualifying run.

The sense of at least some relief was short-lived.  As Berry flashed under the checkered flag, his engine expired with a show of flames.

Instead of starting 5th in his heat race Saturday night, Berry was greeting fans and selling merchandise while his wounded race car sat 10 minutes away in his team’s race shop.

Up Next

With both of the team’s super late model engines sidelined, Berry will get an early start on his off-season work and 2024 preparation.  The team shared that they will make a change to their engine program by aligning with a different engine builder going forward.

Those conversations had already started prior to this weekend.”, Berry shared.

However, that doesn’t mean Berry will be sitting at home!  The team has secured a limited late model motor to compete in that division at this Saturday’s Butch Renninger Memorial at Port Royal Speedway.

Kody Hartlaub has been a busy guy in 2023.  The year started with the construction of a new race shop and the birth of his first child.

Hartlaub built his team’s depth to enable them to compete at both Williams Grove and Lincoln on a weekly basis when the 358 sprint cars are on the card.

Then, with the help of partner Pat Brewer and Brewer Home Improvements, he decided to start building his 410 sprint car program and has hit the track six times with that car already.

In 2023, Hartlaub entered 24 total races.  He has already competed in that many to date in 2023 and he has at least six more on his schedule.

358 News

In the span of just over 24 hours August 18th and 19th, Hartlaub logged three 358 sprint car features, two at Williams Grove on Friday night and one at Lincoln on Saturday night.  He finished 5th, 2nd and 10th respectively in the J Fuels, Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Hartlaub’s Furniture, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.95.

While the main events were certainly not a walk in the park, Hartlaub did the heavy lifting during the heat races that weekend, passing six cars at The Grove and four at Lincoln during qualifying.

Hartlaub was just as good at Lincoln the following weekend, August 26th.  He won his heat race and drove from 8th to 3rd in the A-main that night.

“We’ve been really consistent all year.  That’s a credit to Pat (Brewer), my dad and all my guys who put it a lot of hours by my side to make sure everything is well maintained and we are as prepared as we can be.  I can’t thank them enough.“, Hartlaub said.

Hartlaub has compiled some impressive statistics at the wheel of his 358 sprint car in 2023.  Along with the two wins at Lincoln Speedway, his average finishing position is 5.8 over eleven races.  Just up the road at Williams Grove Speedway, Hartlaub owns an average finish of 3.5 over six races.

It will come as no surprise those stats have put Hartlaub atop the season championship point standings at both tracks.

Hartlaub leads Derek Locke by 70 points at Williams Grove and Logan Rumsey by 120 points at Lincoln Speedway.  Both tracks have 3 races remaining for the 358 sprint cars this season.

410 News

Hartlaub closed out the month of August with his sixth 410 sprint car race of the season.  He was part of a 23-car field signed in at BAPS Motor Speedway for the Capitol Renegade Clash on Sunday evening.

The night got off to a solid start for Hartlaub with the 4th quickest lap in his group, which put him on the pole for his heat race.  It was in the heat race that he turned some heads.  Hartlaub led the first seven laps before giving up the lead and settling for a runner-up finish.

In the 30-lap A-main Hartlaub initially slipped back to 10th from his 8th starting spot but he was able to find his rhythm and move into 6th by lap three.  He kept a firm hold on the spot for the duration of the event, notching his 2nd top ten in six 410 sprint car races.

Up Next

Hartlaub will focus on his 358 sprint car this weekend with two nights at the track in central Pennsylvania.

Friday night he will go after his first career win at the legendary Williams Grove Speedway.

Saturday night he will get back to victory lane for the first time since May at Lincoln Speedway.  While Hartlaub has been very good there all summer (with an average finish of 5.8), the handicapping system adds an extra challenge to get to the front in a 20-lap feature.  Hartlaub has two podium finishes in his last three trips to the Pigeon Hills oval, so a return to victory lane may not be far away.

Season Stats: 358 Division

18 races, 2 wins, 11 top 5’s, 16 top 10’s, 17 top 15’s

Season Stats: 410 Division

6 races, 0 wins, 1 top 5’s, 2 top 10’s, 4 top 15’s

Trivia Question

Cappetta Has Trying Night at Lincoln

Feels Like Teams Takes One Step Forward and Two Steps Back

Abbottstown, PA – August 30, 2023

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Ashley and the Cappetta Racing Team had a trying night at Lincoln Speedway for the Kramer Klash.

  • Date:  August 26, 2023
  • Event:  Kramer Klash
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 9th [9], A-main DNQ

New Tire Continues to Plague Cappetta and Team

Ashley Cappetta and the Gettysburg Trading Post, Mike’s Towing and Recovery, Yesteryear Antique Center, Stoner’s Auction, O’Brien’s Fuel and Service, Iron Horse Trains, Republican Club of Hanover No. 89 were back in action at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday for the Kramer Klash.

When asked to give an assessment of Saturday night at Lincoln, Ashley’s first response was, “Saturday was no good.” After two solid weekends at the track, Cappetta and the team failed to qualify for the feature for the first time this season, “Knowing we did well the past two weeks, it feels like we take one step forward and then two steps back.” While the new tire compound continues to challenge Ashley and the team, there were other factors in play on Saturday that contributed to the team’s struggles, “Some of it was me overdriving the car and some of it was track conditions. I had no drive off both corners due to wheel spin.” The team was also down a crew member. Some teams are sticking with the older compound but Ashley and the team agree switching back would just be a temporary band-aid until the new tires likely become mandatory next season.

Cappetta Takes Time to Reset After Rough Night

After a rough day, or in this case, a rough night, sometimes the best thing to do is to get away to mentally reset and that is exactly what Ashley did on Sunday, “The best thing that happened to me over the weekend was getting away and going to a concert on Sunday night. It got me away from the car and thinking about Saturday night.” Cappetta spent the night focused on the music with some of the lyrics really hitting home, “It was a good time and a much needed break.”

Teams Face Challenges Every Week That Fans Don’t See

There were quite a few factors in play that affected Cappetta, the car and the team, “On Saturday night fans saw a bad handling car but they don’t understand why or what happened.” During the week Ashley and the team worked in the shop measuring, testing and looking over everything, which is something the fans don’t get to see. The team thought they had found a way to make improvements but when they got to the track, it turns out the team was wrong, or there was more wrong than they thought with the car. It also could have been a bad batch of tires which makes it incredibly difficult for teams to pinpoint what is wrong, especially in the middle of a busy race night.

Stay tuned to Cappetta’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.
