After an August that was sort of a rollercoaster of results, September came along and presented more challenges for Lane Snook. He had a busy schedule ahead of him during the month and would pilot a variety of cars at a variety of tracks.

To kick off the first weekend of the month, Lane would head to Williams Grove Speedway in Jaxton Garman’s Limited car.

“We started 8th in our heat with a bad pill draw and were able to win it.” Lane quickly carved through the heat race field and showed good speed heading into the feature.

“Then we started 6th in the feature, and were running third when we got spun on a restart. I felt we had a good car, but maybe the wrong tire choice, but we were able to pass a couple cars in the few remaining laps to finish 15th.”

Snook would then pull double duty the following night at the Butch Renninger Memorial in the family 23 car. Both divisions would time trial, and Lane would clock in 9th in the Super and 8th in the Limited, after the nose folded under. Lane would qualify for both features with a 5th place finish in the Super heat and a heat win in the Limited.

In the Super feature, Lane “started 18th and drove to 6th pretty quickly. I was trying to save my equipment since I knew I used it up coming to the front, and the car ended up fading away a little bit towards the end of the race. With a few restarts at the end, we ended up 8th and got the hard charger award.”

A strong performance and his second hard charger of the year. In the Limited, Snook would start 4th and finish there after falling back, but gaining those positions back.

A journey over the state line into Ohio, to Eldora for the Earl Baltes Classic in the BKR 15K, was next up on Sunday for Lane. This night would feature split fields and give Lane an opportunity to shake things down before the World 100.

“We qualified 4th in our group, then started 4th in our heat and ended up 6th. Then started 17th in the feature and ran 18th.”

Then came a huge challenge in the World 100 week.

There would be two qualifying nights where the drivers would accumulate points towards the Saturday night finale, and with over 100 cars in the pits, it was one of the most stacked fields of the year. Thursday’s qualifying night started with a 46th-place qualifying effort and would bury the 15K in the shootout race. Snook would start 16th and finish 14th, which wouldn’t be good enough to make the show. Friday would go a little better. Lane would time in 37th and make it into the feature after going 13th-7th in the shootout. He would start 19th and finish 21st in that race.

“On Saturday we started 13th in our heat again, and finished 9th, and starting deep in a B-Main, we decided to call it a weekend.”

In his final race of September, Snook would travel over to Path Valley Speedway to race the Fedder 22 car. This would again be a new ride for Lane and another test of his adaptability. Lane would go from 6th to 4th in the heat race.

“I started 15th in the feature and finished 10th. I felt we had a better car than that, but it was difficult to pass.”

Lane would then travel to a new track to open up October, in Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, against the Lucas Oil Tour. The 23 team got behind early in the night, as a parts failure before hotlaps, gave the driver no chance to make laps before qualifying.

“We qualified 20th in our group, started 10th in our heat, and ran 7th. Then started 6th in our B main, and finished 8th, which ended our night.”

Overall, not the night the team was hoping for, but they at least got to race at another track and try to build their notes.

The past few months have certainly come with challenges and a lot of changes. Lane has raced in five different cars between late models and the modified. With that has certainly come a lot of challenges with getting adapted to everyone’s equipment.

“It’s definitely a challenge getting in different cars. You really have to adjust your driving to the car and try to get as comfortable as possible in the car. Then you gotta figure out what car needs what adjustments to make it better for me and faster on the racetrack.”

Through 50 races on the season, Snook has certainly got a taste of everything track-wise and car-wise, running at a variety of both. He is certainly eager to learn as much as possible and hopefully improve himself and his car.

As for plans for the rest of the month, Snook is unsure what the next race will be for the team. He does plan to try and get some more experience with Drake Troutman on the road.

“Definitely gonna go on the road with Drake some to try and learn some more, especially since I feel we’ve been on the struggle bus the second half of the year.”
