Meade Hahn Taking the Good with the Bad in August

After a couple weeks of preparation and working on the 7 car, Meade Hahn was ready to get back on track in August. There would be good times and bad throughout the month. He would again make visits to Selinsgrove and Port Royal Speedway. With 10 starts on the season so far, Hahn had ventured to both tracks on several occasions, with Selinsgrove holding the best finish of the year for him.

His only appearance of the month at Selinsgrove would come close to tying his best finish of the year at the big half mile. Hahn would finish 4th in his heat race and would be in the redraw. He would roll off 6th in the feature.

“In the feature, the track was rubbered up, and I thought the bottom was the place to be, but I started on the outside. The driver miscalculated the start and tried to diamond the corner. The inside car slid up and attempted to run underneath, and unfortunately I didn’t get the run and had to check up and lost ground.”

This would shuffle the 7 car back. With the surface being pretty locked down, passing was at a premium, and Meade ultimately ended up finishing 7th.

“The car’s set up was good, and we had competitive speed with the lead cars”—a bright spot on a night when the race track was technical and narrow.

Later that month, the team would head over to the Port Royal Speedway to compete alongside the Lucas Oil Late Models. A rare qualifying show for the limited division presented a new challenge for the 7 car and Hahn, as most shows they typically run are draw shows.

“The car wasn’t good at all, and we had no traction. I just overall felt terrible and knew it wasn’t a good two laps.”

The stopwatch would show the 7 in 15th in their group, which put them near the back of their heat.

“We made some changes to the car and went out for the heat. Got a good start and went three wide, and I didn’t realize a car was wrecking in front of us, and we just started bouncing off each other in the back of the pack. Eventually I got turned around and into the outside wall on the first lap.”

This would make the rest of the night difficult.

“Went out for the consi with a damaged car and went from 10th to 6th, but had to get up to 4th to make the show and just couldn’t make it happen. The car felt good, but I could tell something was off in the front end, but I just couldn’t figure out what it was.”

This damage would ultimately end the team’s weekend.

“We came home and went to work to repair all the damage from Friday night because we wanted to race on Saturday at Port, but the more we looked, the more bent and bad parts we found. Once I found a bad left-front shock and we didn’t have a spare, we ultimately decided it was best to park the car for Saturday night and focus on getting it fixed for the following weekend.”

The team would need to replace a lot of equipment. Aside from the shocks, Hahn would need to replace wheels, tires, bumpers, and bodywork in order to compete.

In looking at the upcoming schedule of when the team plans to compete, September will be a busier month. As of now, Meade intends to race at Selinsgrove on the 6th. Then, he will hit the final limited show of the year at Port Royal on the 11th. Their final race of the month is set to be at Selinsgrove on the 19th.
