Up and Down October: Snook Ends 2025 Season, Looks Ahead to 2026

With few races remaining on the schedule for Lane Snook and his team in 2025, the end of a personal best season was in sight. Even with a limited number of races, the team would travel to a variety of facilities.

Starting off the month at the Path Valley Speedway, Snook and team would continue their winning ways. Winning his heat race and then starting 3rd in the feature, Lane was once again in prime position to grab another win. “Got into second on the first lap and after a few restarts was able to pass the leader.” Lane would hold on to pick up the win in the limited late model feature and took his win total on the year to 20.

Traveling the following weekend to the world-famous Eldora Speedway, Snook would look to round out his season on a high note. Having made a statement run in the Dirt Track World Championship event in 2024, hopes were again high for a great run at this event.

Speed would start the first night of racing as Snook went up against the field of 60+ cars. Lane would time in 5th in his group and start 2nd in his heat race. Making his way through the heat and finishing in 2nd would lock him into the feature on Saturday night, and he would start 9th. “I thought we had a shot to win after the first day, as I felt we were still pretty fast for the car I had, and I knew if the car was right, I would’ve had a shot.”

As the Saturday finale started, the team was going to be out first for hot laps, but opted to skip, as the track was still really wet. Unknown to the team, the car had issues from the night before with the rough conditions in the heat race. “I believe I had a shock go bad from the heat race the day before,” stated Lane. And sadly, the feature result was not very good, having no laps that night to diagnose the car. “It took all the traction out of the racecar.” A disappointing backslide through the field, all the way to 20th, was not what the Port Royal-based team was looking for. “I haven’t been able to look into it too hard yet,” said Snook. All in all, it was bittersweet to have such a prime opportunity for a strong run in a premier event, but the driver and team are already looking forward to 2026.

With 2025 being a breakthrough season with 20 wins and 2 track titles at Selinsgrove and Port Royal, questions surrounded what the young talent would do in 2026. Preparation and learning, a statement that started the season as something Snook was looking to do, will again be the name of the game during this offseason. “The plan for the offseason is to be on the road as much as possible and learn as much as possible.” He’s already been spending a lot of the last few weeks with Drake Troutman and crew, learning and helping out.

The biggest part of the offseason, aside from the travel and learning, will be what is in the works for the 2026 season. “I also plan on putting another car together, to run supers next year, in the few weeks I’ll be home over the offseason.” Making the move to the super late model ranks would be a step that the team was hoping to start this past season in a limited capacity, but hurting their motor in the first attempt of the season put that on hold. Even when running with the super late model division in the late stages of the season with their steel block, Snook showed speed.

With all of this in mind, Lane and team will still certainly have this season to remember forever, regardless of what results come next year. Having four times more wins this season was a surprise to everyone involved. The other part that the team should take great pride in is the level of consistency that they were able to maintain. The team ran 43 total races, combining limited, super, and steel block shows. Aside from the 20 wins, Snook was able to tally 37 top 10’s, 34 top 5’s, and 32 podiums. Winning nearly half his races and being on the podium in almost 75% of the shows, boasts a strong model of consistency and ability.

While it’s unknown what 2026 may bring, with the number of things that are going right for the 23 car, there is no reason that wins and an equally impressive stat line can’t happen. Testing Emotions and Equipment En Route to Two Track Championships for Lane Snook & Team

With the summer months in the past and wins and points racking up, Lane Snook and his Port Royal, PA team, found themselves in a unique couple of situations. One being that the team had nearly completed another full season with over triple their win total from a year prior. The other one being that they were sitting at the top of two track points battles. Needing to just keep consistency going in the last few limited shows of the year at some Central PA tracks, Snook needed to be focused and manage emotions.

The emotional rollercoaster of the previous few weeks for the young driver was dealing with the disappointment of losing one late at Port Royal and then going back to the top of the mountain and winning at Selinsgrove. More strong emotions would spill out at the final show of the season at Port Royal to kick off September. Coming into the final show of the season at Port, Snook merely needed to qualify and finish the feature. With a quick-time and then a strong heat race finish, Lane would start 3rd and again be in position to win another feature. Quickly rolling into the second spot and rolling right up on the back bumper of the leader, Lane was able to move “to the top to pass the leader and drive away to get the win from there.”

While that may be the only words Lane used to recap that race, more emotions showed in victory lane, as he became the youngest track champion in Port Royal Speedway history. Tears of not only joy and relief were flowing in victory lane as Snook finished off one of two possible track titles, but also, some tears of remembrance, as it was almost 4 years to the day that the Snook family lost Lane’s brother, Mason, during the Tuscarora 50 weekend in 2021. Even with high emotions, the team relished in the victory, but would quickly have to refocus as more work was yet to be done.

With a double dose of Selinsgrove Speedway the following weekend, Snook would not only get to test out the steel block against the supers, but he would also get to continue the pursuit of the limited late model track title. The Super Late Models would start the weekend. With the few races the team was planning to run with the steel block, more so being test sessions, logging laps would be most important. Managing still to start in the 11th spot in the feature, “was up to 7th until I pulled into the pits for the motor running hot,” and that would hand the team a 14th place result.

Heading back to the Selinsgrove ½ mile the following night with the limited, Lane was back in the points battle fight. Having a decent advantage over Andrew Yoder in the limited division, Snook just needed to keep the consistency going. With an average finish of 3rd at Selinsgrove in the limited car, Snook didn’t stray far from that. “We redrew a 5, but were able to get to the lead very quickly.” A late race caution made for an interesting finish as Lane “got slid on the restart, but was able to cross it over and drive away with the win from there.” This win would be bigger than expected, as it would ultimately clinch the points title, as the final points race there on September 26th would be canceled after electrical issues at the facility. Two track titles now secured, but still some more racing to take place.

In the final few races of the month for Snook, another opportunity to test out the steel block on September 19th at Selinsgrove would be up next. It was a Twin 20 features program. Rolling off 13th in the first feature, Lane would begin moving forward before overheating issues again forced the driver to pull off partway through the first feature. Making sure everything was good to go, “the crew went to work before the second feature, we started 17th and drove up to 11th on a rubbered surface.”

Ending out the racing portion of the month, the team would spend the 20th at Bedford Speedway for the Troutman Memorial. Another special race, given the relationship between Drake and Lane. Maybe racing a little motivated after seeing Drake win the modified feature, Snook would roll off 8th in the limited late model feature. “With a very good car, I drove up to second with a few laps to go and caught the leader, then got around him coming to the white flag on a surface that was latching up for the win.”

Checking off another win, Lane would decide to take the final weekend of the month off and go on the road to help Drake and the Team 22 car prepare for a weekend of racing. “We’ve been pretty hard at it, and hopefully it all pays off this weekend for him and for when I get back home.” 

The steel block car will be the priority in the coming month of October, as the team’s main event will be Eldora Speedway for the Dirt Track World Championship. 

“I feel we’ve made some pretty good gains with the steel block. I think if we can put a night together and keep the motor cool, we would be competitive.” Not that forward thinking isn’t important, with more races to come in 2025, but reflecting on what all the preparation and hard work have accomplished for Lane is equally important.

Confidence and preparation have shown all season to be paying off with the multiple wins and now, track titles. Something that wasn’t really a thought at the start. “We never really thought of running for points anywhere until we started running well, and we could make every race at each place towards the end of the season,” said Snook. 

Finishing out two track titles in one year “was definitely pretty cool.” With both of these tracks being part of what has made the teenage racer who he is, it made both titles that much sweeter. “I’ve spent a lot of hours at each place, pretty much growing up at Port, and racing with dad and Trent at Selinsgrove, and also racing karts there as I was growing up.” 

While emotions aren’t something that most racers like to show, it’s evident that this season has been one of special moments and joy for the team. But it isn’t over yet.

As mentioned, the team will shift focus to Eldora during the middle of the month, but not before a local showdown at Path Valley Speedway on October 11th. Post-Eldora plans are not finalized yet, but more races could still be a part of the month of October. Make sure to stay up to date on the team’s website, LaneSnookRacing.com.

Staying Consistent in August: Three Wins & Six Total Podiums Prove Strength of Snook & Team

Figuring out what your car needs throughout the season can be an ongoing struggle and can hinder consistency. Early in the beginning stages of the season, for Lane Snook, finding ways to apply what he learned out on the road with Drake Troutman was a major emphasis. He was able to pinpoint some issues immediately, and some have only become evident as their speed and consistency have increased. August was one of the biggest examples of that consistency and what applying those learned skills can do.

August started out with the continued speed that had been building all year. Port Royal on the 2nd ended in a win for the 23 team, after Snook rolled off 6th and was “able to get the lead late in the race on a challenging race track.” Only leading the last 3 laps of the race, after methodically working his way through the field, Snook started the month well.

That strong start would continue the following week at Bedford, where the team would charge from 4th to the win. Lane stated he had a “very solid car”, and that was evident, as this was the fourth win in a row for the Port Royal-based team.

Clinton County was next up for the team on the 15th. A strong showing ended with a little disappointment as Lane charged from 6th to the lead, only to get passed in lap traffic on the last lap. Finishing second was nothing to be ashamed of, but it was a little bittersweet.

Super late model competition was next up for Snook, as the team tested out their steel block motor against the super late model ranks at Port Royal on the 16th. While not having the power of some of the teams, it was a very respectable effort. “We started 18th in the feature and figured out our problem and were able to drive up to 8th and finish there.” Sometimes, constantly learning is about finding the small things that make a big difference. For having less horsepower than others, he passed; that sure seemed to be the case that night for the 23.

Switching back to the limited the following week, Lane would again prove the power of their program, nearly grabbing another win. A 6th-place start, due to the handicap system, was overcome, as Lane charged to the front and caught the leader. “I was able to pass for the lead in lap traffic as a caution came out. Then I got into the fence a few laps after the restart, trying to get back around the leader, and ended up second.” A few unfortunate breaks, but he was still able to maintain a podium finish.

The last week of August featured a Saturday night show at Port Royal for the Butch Renninger (Lane’s grandfather) Memorial. With the night starting with a quick time effort in group time trials and a 2nd place heat finish, Lane ended up rolling off 2nd in the feature. “Got the lead early and started pulling away through lap traffic towards the end of the race. Then got passed on a restart on the last lap to end up finishing second.” With over a 2-second lead coming to the checkered flag, it was a real heartbreaking moment to get passed on the impending restart, but his mental toughness showed the next night.

Snook made up for the loss the night before by sweeping the next night at Selinsgrove. Going quick time in qualifying and winning his heat from the pole, there was no settling for anything less than a win. A pole pill in the redraw would make it tough for the competition with how consistent and fast the 23 car had been. “Redraw a one and lead every lap and won by over 7 seconds.” One of the more dominating performances by the young racer.

What has been silently compiling for the 23 team, aside from wins, is points. Something that is very important on a national level and something that consistency can gain you. Finding the little things and making the constant adjustments needed throughout the year is what can separate you from the competition. As it sits now, Lane is in position to grab two track titles.

“We weren’t really planning on running any points deals throughout the year until we started running well and were in good contention to win the points championship.” While the speed and consistency didn’t just start this past month, August was a great example of it. Minus the single super-start, all of the limited division appearances in August resulted in either a win or a 2nd-place finish.

“We’ve had a good car almost every time we’ve unloaded this year.” Even when the race hasn’t resulted in a win, being able to minimize the negatives has been a strong suit. “I feel like we have a shot to win everywhere we go.” Finishing on the podium 80% of the time this year has made the expectations super high and almost win or bust. 

“I know the results were good, but I feel they could’ve been better without a few driver errors, and if some cautions hadn’t happened.” Being able to find most of the little things that have been holding back speed has proved Lane’s knowledge base as a driver, and the team’s knowledge base has really developed. With two points titles at Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedway in reach, it’s focus time and all about bringing home the reward of a consistent season.

September will round out the Port Royal season for the team on the 5th as the limited late models join the Tuscarora 50 weekend. With a solid finish, Lane should lock up the points title there. Selinsgrove, the following weekend, will be a two-day show for the team as they look to race in the super division on Saturday (13th) and the limited division on Sunday (14th). Selinsgrove will again be on the schedule the next week on the 19th as the team again plans to run with the super late models. Bedford will round out the weekend on the 20th, as the team goes back to the limited division. The final week of the month will feature the final race of the limited season, and hopefully end with another title, at the Selinsgrove Speedway on the 26th.

Summer Speed and Checkered Flags: Four Wins Highlight July for Snook

Race season went into full swing as the calendar turned to July. For Lane Snook and the 23 team, July, if previous results up to this point in the season were any indication, would be a good one. Picking up three wins in the month of June alone, Snook was truly in a groove.

With a busy start to the month with a double header to start at Dog Hollow, Lane picked up right where he left off. With the first night consisting of a makeup feature, Snook was able to grab the win. The race ended up being shortened due to time, but even with this, Lane was able to charge from 6th to 1st in six laps. The following night, he was in contention again for yet another win. “Started 3rd in the feature and ended up 2nd, with multiple moves on the leader, but couldn’t get any to stick.” Regardless, the team was able to garner a 2nd place finish before heading to Virginia the next night.

Winchester Speedway would be the site of the next race for the team. After finishing 2nd in the heat and starting 9th in the A Main, Lane would finish out in 10th. “We were off on the car all night.” Even with that being said, it was still another top 10 finish.

The following weekend featured a Friday night show at Selinsgrove Speedway and then a trip to Port Royal on Saturday. Friday went well for the Mifflintown racer, as he charged from 8th to 2nd on a rubber down surface. Port Royal, the next night would be an even stronger performance. “Starting 6th in the feature and with a very good car, and a late race move, we were able to win our second race of the year at Port.”

Path Valley would be next up on July 19th. With another strong showing in his heat, winning it from 6th, Lane would redraw the 6 and charge forward in the feature. Falling short by one spot, but nearly making it to the lead, the team would have to try again next week.

After plans to race at Selinsgrove got rained out, the team called an audible to go back to Path Valley. Lane made it worth the trip. Quick time in qualifying and an effort good enough to get into the redraw in the heat, set the team up well. “I was able to get lucky enough to draw the 1. So that’s where we started, and we led every lap and were able to get the win.” Bringing the win total to a dozen, the team would round out the month at Clinton County.

A fair special on Tuesday the 29th would end the July stretch of races for the team. And Snook made sure it was a dominant performance. After setting a track record in the heat race for time and winning, Lane pulled the 1 and walked off with the feature, leading every lap. Bringing his win total to 13 races and having an impressive 19-race top ten streak, it was clear the young racer was confident and performing at a level above that of last season.

Nearing a mark of triple his win total for the previous season, Snook mentioned it “would be pretty cool” to beat last season’s total by so much, and that he thinks, “it’s definitely possible.” Lane noted a few things that have contributed to the success and steady results. “We went over stuff really good after the night at Winchester as we felt we were starting to struggle and found a few things that we got fixed up, and got our car back where it needed to be to keep consistent results coming.” Lane also cited the experience of going on the road during the offseason as something that has truly helped him and his program. He also mentioned that “racing on different types of racetracks helps me as a driver to know what to do on different surfaces and shapes of tracks.” Something the team got to do a lot of in July and will get to do again in August.

As of now, the team’s plans look like this for August. Starting off with Port Royal on the 2nd and then transitioning to Bedford Speedway the following Friday. Following that week up with a potential two-race weekend with Clinton County and Port Royal, on the 15th and 16th, respectively. The team plans to get a little test session in against the super late model division on the 16th, as they prepare for Eldora in October. August 22nd will see the team join as the support division at Port Royal during the Lucas Oil Late Model weekend. On the 23rd, the team plans to travel back to Path Valley. And to round out the month, another two race weekend, featuring Port Royal on the 30th and Selinsgrove on the 31st. A busy month, with a potential for a few more select shows to be added. Ross Hitting Stride in Second Half of July

After the 2025 edition of Pennsylvania Speedweek wrapped up for Tyler Ross and team, the speed they found at the end of the series continued into the second half of the month. Running only a few more races to round out the month, Ross showed good speed and proof that what they were chasing with the new race car during Speedweek, was starting to come around.

For kinks still being worked out on the brand new car, the 5 team had a good end to the month of July. Picking back up at Williams Grove Speedway on July 18th, Tyler was able to add another top 10 finish to the 2025 resume, finishing in the 10th position. Not only was this a good result, it showed the team had found something at the Mechanicsburg ½ mile, as it was the first top 10 at Williams Grove all season.

The next night shifted over to the Lincoln Speedway. Again, Tyler and the 5 car showed speed and the ability to run up towards the front. With a strong 6th-3rd run in his heat, followed up by a 9th-5th run in the feature, Ross was happy with how the car was performing. “We’re still figuring out the new car and motor program, but we’re not far off at all.” This finish would mark Tyler’s 3rd top 5 finish of the season and his third top 10 in a row. Consistency was starting to find the Lincoln University driver, and his team. “The team is just working really hard to find speed and I see it paying off,” stated Ross. He went on to mention that “just racing more is always a big help.” This was his 25th race of the season and he seemed to be finding his stride and a little more confidence in his equipment.

A big test would come just a few days later, as the World of Outlaws came to the BAPS Motor Speedway. The beginning of the night went well for the team, as Tyler was able to post a strong qualifying effort and put himself on the pole of his heat. A slight miscalculation on the start of the heat dropped Ross back a row, as he got called for a jump. “That’s on me,” said Tyler, “I didn’t realize they moved the line further off turn four, and I went where we usually do.” Even with some adversity, he was able to secure a transfer spot in the heat and would roll off 19th in the feature. At the end of the 30-lap feature, Ross would end up 18th.

When asked about something that was brought up by a fellow competitor on the broadcast in regards to restarts, Ross was in agreement that there were some games being played. “I think the Outlaws could be a little more consistent with their jump calls throughout the night,” mentioned Ross. “Being in the mid-pack on restarts, it was pretty wild back there. I think it caught all us locals off on restarts because it’s not something we’re used to.” Many drivers were either making moves before the green came out and jumping rows, or losing spots due to being moved out of the way. “I told my guys, I felt like I passed 20 cars in the race and only improved one spot.”

All in all, still a successful night to be able to compete and show speed against some of the toughest competition in the country. “The whole pace of a race is different with those guys, and it doesn’t matter if you’re up front or in the back, you gotta go.” Even though the streak of top tens had come to an end, this did mark the first World of Outlaws show Ross had qualified for in 2025. A great improvement from previous efforts and proof that the car and driver had found something.

The team would take the weekend off and not compete at the Williams Grove Summer Nationals, due to a prior commitment for the driver. Future race plans are still to be determined, but wherever the 5 car unloads next, it seems that they will be in contention for good results and maybe even the checkered flag.

ABOUT  TYLER ROSS

Tyler started his racing career in 2002 in quarter midgets. At the age of 14, he jumped into the 600 micro scene. At the age of 18, he started his sprint car career in the 358 division and, shortly after, jumped to the 410 division. He owns (9) 358 sprint wins, (4) 360 URC feature wins, and (7) 410 sprint car feature wins, plus he earned the 2015 URC Rookie of the Year award.

Speedweek Grind: Fighting Through Long Nights and Challenges in 2025 Edition for Hartlaub

As the summer heat built, so did the schedule of races for the 95 team and Kody Hartlaub. Eyeing an extensive Speedweek schedule, with 10 nights of action, Kody and team had a long stretch of late nights and hard work ahead of them. Even with Mother Nature ruining a few nights of action, the grind of Speedweek is something that local teams have to persevere through.

With the first two races being scratched with teams already at the track and ready to compete, BAPS Motor Speedway, on Sunday, would be the first show to be completed. Hartlaub and team started out the night on a good note, with a 2nd place effort in group qualifying. Things took a turn in the heat, after a slide back to 7th, made for a necessary trip to the B Main. Luckily, the driver and team were able to make an A Main appearance and ended up starting off Speedweek with an 18th-place finish.

A quick turnaround followed as the team moved to Lincoln Speedway on Monday. The NinetyFive Motorsports car was quick right out of the gate. With Kody taking home quicktime and making the redraw out of the heat race, the night was looking up. Rolling off on the outside of the front row of the feature, which was his best starting spot of the season, Kody was able to maintain and even challenge early for the lead, before slipping back just a few spots and garnering a 4th place finish. This was his best A Main result of the season.

“We finally just put a whole night together from time trials to the feature.” Hartlaub went on to mention that they “changed some things and went more aggressive than we normally do setup-wise, and I really think that benefited us later.”

Rain gave the team a chance to recoup on Tuesday before making a trip to the Port Royal Speedway on Wednesday. Even with little experience at the track, Hartlaub was able to start off the night strong yet again, by going 5th quick in time trials and transferring into the feature from the heat race. Starting 15th, and in one of the weirder features of the year, Kody was able to finish in 18th. This started the real grind for the team, as this began a streak of four-straight nights of racing.

Hagerstown Speedway was next up and would be the second large half-mile of the week. Again, Hartlaub would have a good qualifying effort and be able to transfer into the feature out of the heat. Kody would end up not finishing the entire feature and exit on lap 9 of the race. An upsetting result, but the team would again grind to get the car ready for another night, this time at Williams Grove.

The Mitch Smith Memorial took center stage on Friday. Kody and team again unloaded with a fast 95 car. Qualifying 5th and running second in the heat meant the team would roll off 10th in the feature. Getting a good jump and grabbing the 9th spot for a few laps would be the best part of the 30-lap feature, as Hartlaub would slide back and ultimately pull off with 7 to go in the feature.

“This is a humbling sport,” mentioned Kody. “Just as soon as I thought we had Williams Grove figured out, they proved to us this week that we don’t.”

Trying to put that night behind them, the team headed to Port Royal Speedway for the Greg Hodnett Classic. Fighting from the time the team left the shop, the track surface proved to be tough to get a hold of. Timing 13th in his group and finishing 8th in his heat, the B Main would be the place where the 95 would round out the night. Missing the transfer and finishing 13th in the B Main was a stark contrast to that of Wednesday night’s effort.

Travel trouble on Saturday and the fact that the team hurt two motors over the course of the week would ultimately lead to the team deciding to skip the final race of the week at Path Valley. Nonetheless, the team completed Speedweek with some newfound knowledge on what the car needs to maybe find some extra speed.

“Still have a little bit of work to do, but I feel like we are making the right gains,” said Hartlaub.

Even with the team missing a few nights with rainouts, it was still a massive undertaking to compete in all the races they did.

“I don’t think some fans actually understand what all has to happen between each race. You still have all the same car maintenance,” mentioned Kody. And a lot of teams have to continually restock all of their fuel, tire, and other expendable part supplies. Hartlaub went on to mention that he is glad that Speedweek is only a once-a-year event, as it is a lot of strain and sleepless nights preparing for the next show. 

“I want to thank all my crew and family for everything this past week,” knowing just how much effort everyone put in to make it happen.

The team will get a much-needed week to regroup before racing action starts back up, and it’s soon time for the Outlaws to come to town and pose another challenge to the 95.

“We never back down from a challenge, and I’m excited to see what will happen.”

ABOUT  KODY HARTLAUB

Kody started racing go-karts in 2005. Over five seasons he won championships at Hunterstown and Shippensburg, and finished 2nd in the PA State series. Following the 2009 season, he moved up to race 600 micro sprints on a limited basis, but then spent a few years away from the sport. In late 2015 Kody tested in a 358 sprint car and started a partial schedule in 2016. In 2018, he raced the majority of the season but then sat out again in 2019. He returned to 358 sprints in 2020 on a very limited schedule, then in 2021 he was able to complete his first full season at Lincoln Speedway.

New Car and Continued Speed During Speedweek for Tyler Ross

While rolling a fresh car out of the trailer at the beginning of the year is a normality for most, some like Tyler Ross and the 5 team, choose to roll out a fresh piece for Speedweek. 

After having a strong couple of weeks leading up to PA Speedweek, confidence was high as Tyler’s last three starts resulted in top 10 finishes. The challenge of duplicating the current performance with a new car was something that the Lincoln University native showed the capability to do over the course of Speedweek, even with some up-and-down results.

To start out the team’s campaign, they ventured to the BAPS Motor Speedway. Having seen rain ruin the first two nights of the 10-day series, the driver and team were eager to get on track, and for good reason. 

“We took a brand new car and motor package to BAPS,” and speed showed immediately. After being quickest in warmups and 5th quickest in group time trials, Ross was able to qualify for the feature through his 2nd-place heat finish. Tyler would roll off 7th and finish just outside the top 10 in 11th, after running inside the top 10 for the first half of the race. 

“We missed the setup a little bit in the feature, but we knew where we missed it.” Even with a small setback in the feature, Ross didn’t seem too disappointed, stating that it was “understandable with having an all-new piece.”

The next night, the team headed to the Lincoln Speedway with the new car. However, Ross indicated that it might not have been the best move. 

“We as a team made a mistake by not taking the car we just ran second with (6/21 at Lincoln).” The new car was able to time in 11th and make a run into the transfer spot in the heat. Unfortunately, luck ran out halfway through the heat, when Ross and Jordan Thomas made contact down the front stretch, sending both cars spinning and nearly upside down. Luckily, minus a few fixable parts and the wing, the car was okay. 

“Having the wreck racing for a qualifying spot in the heat is what cost us our night.” Rolling off deep in the B Main, Ross was able to show speed, making moves and advancing up to 10th, but still falling short of making the show.

A few nights rest and regrouping, followed by the team returning to the Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, after Grandview rained out on Tuesday. 

“We went to see how the new car and motor ran again,” stated Tyler. With a similar qualifying effort to that of their last race, Ross would make a 6th to 6th run in the heat and showed dominating speed in the B Main, winning that event and transferring to the main event. Ross decided to start and run a few laps to feel out the car in feature action, but would pull in after seven laps, “just to save equipment.”

The 5 team would then attend the finale of PA Speedweek at the Path Valley Speedway. A stark outlier on the schedule, being one of the smallest tracks in the region. Even with it having been over 3 years since 410 sprint cars had raced at the Spring Run, PA track, it looked as though Ross never missed a beat. 

“We had good speed all night.” Tyler was able to time in 2nd quick in group B and made the redraw with a 4th place heat finish. Drawing the 3rd position, Ross would battle in the fast-paced feature and ultimately come home 8th. Garnering his eleventh top 10 finish of the year, but the driver felt it could have been better. 

“I just felt like I cost us a better finish as a driver, not putting myself in the right positions on the track and losing spots quickly in the race.” With such a fast pace and lap cars coming into play almost immediately, it certainly proved to be a tricky track to know where to be and when.

Wrapping up what felt like a short Speedweek with all the rain, Ross went on to mention that he and the team “have something to work with, even though the results might not be what we wanted, but we learned what we need to do better.” Having to battle with making the new car behave how he wanted and also manage the new bugs with it, Ross noted how the team’s Speedweek schedule worked in their favor. 

“We do Lincoln through Grandview, then take a few days off and regroup both with equipment and ourselves. Most, if not all of us on the team, still work during the week, so we don’t want to wear our guys out.”

Having a little extra time to work on the car and recharge helped the team to maintain speed throughout the week. And those recharges help as the team moves into the rest of the month of July, with some bigger shows coming up throughout the next few weeks and months. 

As of now, plans for the next few nights are to be determined, but the team can show up to whatever race may come, with confidence in their equipment and ability to make speed on a wide variety of tracks as they did during Speedweek.

First PA Speedweek Full of Learning Experiences for Lattomus

The end of June means the start of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek. For the young Delaware native, Preston Lattomus, this meant an opportunity to compete in one of the toughest weeks in the region. Having stepped up from the 358 ranks at the end of last season, learning has been the name of the game in 2025. While a few shows would end up falling to Mother Nature, the driver of the 91 did gain some valuable experience and made improvements at tracks, even if the results didn’t show it. 

“Our goal for Speedweek was to improve every time we hit the track, and I feel we did that.”

With rain taking out the first two shows of the series, BAPS Motor Speedway took center stage as the Speedweek opener. Preston, after qualifying 19th in his flight, went 10th to 9th in his heat. After a B Main effort of 15th, the first night of the week was in the books. Not the strongest effort, but it got the week started, which was the biggest part of being able to learn.

Against the odds, the following night at Lincoln Speedway did happen. Rain was all around the speedway, and it did end up claiming the last five laps of the feature. For Preston, the night started off with a 16th-place qualifying effort. Starting 8th in his heat, he was able to make his way up to 7th, missing out on the transfer by two spots. The 9th position would be the start and finish for the 91 car, in the B Main, wrapping up night two of competition.

Some valuable experience came during the Wednesday night show at Port Royal Speedway. Having limited winged starts at The Speed Palace, Lattomus was able to run double-duty, as the URC 360’s joined the card that evening. Sometimes, getting to slow things down and just being on the track more can help a driver find little areas to improve upon. 

“I can definitely say running both classes helped because of being able to keep up with the track very well,” stated Preston. Motor problems with the 360 made a 12th-place finish a little bit of a disappointing night on that end, as hopes were high for the URC portion of the program. Preston would find a little more speed in the 410, timing in 14th and finishing 8th in his heat, before an 11th-place B Main finish.

Another big half mile appeared on the schedule the following night as the team headed to Hagerstown Speedway. Speed was more evident for the team, as Lattomus was able to put in a solid qualifying effort and make the show out of the B Main. In the feature, Preston was able to make up a few spots, coming home in 19th, but most importantly, making the show and finishing the feature, which helped gain some more valuable experience.

The Mitch Smith Memorial brought the team back to more familiar territory, and the Williams Grove Speedway. With another top 15 qualifying run, Preston would roll off 7th in his heat and finish 9th, sending him to the B Main. The Delaware native showed some good speed and the ability to move around and stay out of some wrecks, going 13th to 6th, and just barely missing out on the transfer position.

Saturday night’s show at Port Royal Speedway would be the final night the 91 team would compete on the Speedweek trail. And it was a great way to finish out the long week. Lattomus had his best qualifying effort of the week, timing in 6th in his group. 

“The guys told me where to run and how to run it right before I went out, and the qualifying effort put us upfront in a heat race.” With a first row starting spot in the heat, a lot of good cars were around the 91 car, but Preston was able to show some great speed and maintain his second starting spot and transfer into the 30-lap feature event. Rolling off 9th in the feature was one of Preston’s best starting positions of the season. Once the green flag dropped, the young racer was able to maintain and hang around inside the top 12. 

“As we got going in the feature, I could feel I had a great car capable of moving forward.” However, troubles came about after only 5 laps. “And when things just started to click, we had a power steering problem that ended our night.” A disappointing end to what appeared to be a promising night.

However, the overall goal for the team and driver was to improve, and that happened. Speedweek is also one of the toughest weeks in dirt track racing. 

“Pennsylvania Speedweek is different from anything I’ve ever done because it’s longer and at a higher level,” stated Lattomus. The format also can present challenges for some, with teams having to time trial every night, which isn’t the norm at most weekly shows.

“The challenges that come along with time trial shows for me are really this time of year,” said Preston. “Qualifying becomes very technical with how the track changes. I prefer time trial shows over redraw or handicap because it’s what they do every race at the highest level.” Having this be a part of the week helped to build a bigger mental notebook for the young 18-year-old racer.

Even with results not all showing the speed the team is capable of, Lattoums was still happy with how it went. 

“This 91 team brings a great piece to the track every night. I know once I get on the same page as the car, I will really start getting into a flow and the good runs will come in more often.” 

The team looks to take a week off and get ready for Williams Grove on the 18th and hopefully build up some more speed and confidence, as the World of Outlaws soon come to town, to round out the month.

Breakthroughs and Continued Speed Highlight Stellar June for Lane Snook

As the summer months came into sight for the Mifflintown native Lane Snook, speed and winning ways continued. After the first day of June brought another win, Lane and team took a week off to attend Eldora Speedway’s Dirt Late Model Dream. Rain barred the team from returning to action the following week. The first full day of summer would be the next time the team would hit the track, this time at the Selinsgrove Speedway.

Showing no lack of speed in their first race in three weeks, Lane and team were able to roll out another fast car. “We had a good car all night long.” After getting a good start in the heat race and advancing from 7th to the win, Lane rolled off 2nd in the feature. “Drag raced into turn one on the start of the feature and got out front.” That move proved to be the difference maker, as, after a few restarts, Snook was able to keep the lead and grab a third triumph at the Selinsgrove half-mile.

A double-header weekend would round out the month of June. Bedford Speedway would be up first. Lane had previously won both appearances at the big half-mile fairgrounds. This time did not result in a win, but Snook was still able to show speed. Another heat win, followed by an 8th-4th run in the feature, started off the weekend on a decent note. “I stayed up till 6:30 AM working on the car after our 4th place run at Bedford,” stated Lane. This was all in preparation for the big show at Port Royal, that followed later that Saturday.

Saturday would prove to be one of the more special days in the young racer’s career. With a $6,000 payday on the line, “we knew there were going to be good cars there and that our equipment had to be in good shape.” With a special time trial format, qualifying would be important and could help or hurt your entire night. “I ran a good lap in time trials to get us quick time, and with the heads-up format, that set us up for the night.” Starting on the pole for the heat, Lane was able to seal the heat race win and the pole position for the feature. With Lane getting a good jump on the initial start, and “after a few cautions and keeping myself calm, we were able to finally get in done at Port.” Not only was this a big win from the standpoint of the monetary value, it was a personal one.

“From growing up here (Port Royal), it was a place I always wanted to win at. The big race was just a bonus,” stated Snook. Lane’s dad raced at the Speed Palace for many years, and getting to grow up on the fairgrounds during race season, having his own name on the record as a feature winner at the speedway, meant a lot. “Our car had great speed all night, and the format really helped us. Hopefully, we can get a few more since we got the first one out of the way.”

While the team will have to wait a few weeks to return to the Port Royal Speedway, they will have plenty of other tracks and nights to potentially add to the growing list of wins on the season. The 23 team plans to kick off the month of July at Dog Hollow on the 3rd and again for a makeup show on the 4th.  The next day they will venture to the Winchester Speedway in Virginia. A double-header weekend follows, with trips to Selinsgrove and Port Royal Speedway. 

Path Valley will then be on the team’s schedule for July 19th. The team plans to then round out the month with a trip to Selinsgrove on July 26th and then Clinton County on July 29th for a fair week special. A jam-packed month compared to June, and hopefully a lot more chances to show the speed and ability of the 23 car. 

Lane continues to have an impressive stat line, with all of his races, but two, resulting in top 10 finishes. Keep up to date with raceday plans and results on the team’s website all year long.

Consistency and Checkered Flags: Snook Stacking Strong Results and Wins in May

After an April of strong performances and consistent top 10 runs, with a win sprinkled in, Lane Snook found a way to turn up the heat on the competition in May. Once again, the team would be tested with weather and having to try and chase races at tracks throughout the state. Race chasing did end up working out pretty well, but the month did start with a few scheduled stops at the Selinsgrove Speedway.

After having a hard charging result in April at the big half-mile, Snook strung together two strong performances and broke the Snook curse at Selinsgrove. Winning on May 2nd from 6th and then again on May 10th from 7th. Both nights, Lane was able to pick his way through the field and find a way through lap traffic. Within two weeks, Snook was able to match his season total in wins (4 total). The speed and winning ways didn’t stop there.

With rain ruining a plan to make a surprise visit to Dog Hollow, the team pivoted and pointed the trailer towards the Bedford Speedway. This was Lane’s “first time at the track,” and what a first time it was. “We started 5th in the feature and drove to 3rd, and with the leaders making contact, I was able to sneak by and get our third win in a row.” A first-time visit, he’ll never forget.

The weekend wasn’t over, however, as the team headed just south of the Mason-Dixon, to Hagerstown Speedway. Speed was again evident, and the big track package seemed to stay consistent. With a stellar heat race, going 10th to 1st, the 23 would have a front row starting spot in the feature. Lane would roll off 2nd, and that would be where he would finish, but the result was not easy to come by. “With contact on the start, we fell to 6th. After some cautions, I was able to drive back to second,” stated Snook. This would add another podium finish to his tally for the season, but end the win streak.

A Memorial Day weekend trip to Port Royal didn’t end with a win, but left the young racer feeling confident with the speed of the car. A 7th place starting spot after the redraw and on the heels of a strong 4th-1st run in his heat gave Lane another chance to add to his strong stat line. “I was able to drive up to 4th with another fast car, but stalled out there to finish the race.” Even with a few winless races, the confidence and belief in what the team was doing with the car were evident.

To round out the month, the team would head to one of Lane’s best tracks, BAPS Motor Speedway. After getting rained out at Selinsgrove and arriving late, the team started at the tail of the field. The team had some help along the way down as Lane’s brother “met us halfway with gears to be able to run.” Starting 27th, finishing the race, and getting some spots would have been a good night, with all the rushing around. But Snook had other ideas. After surviving a first-lap wreck and gaining some spots from that incident, Lane charged towards the front. “With a tough track surface, I was able to pick my way through traffic and watch ahead of me to work my way to the front. With everything going as it needed to, we were able to get the lead with around 5 laps to go and drive off to the win, in the 20-lap feature.” A feat that probably wasn’t at the front of their mind going into the feature. This rounded out a strong month of May, with the win marking the sixth triumph of the season.

And if one on the weekend is good, two must be better. With a Sunday trip lined up at Bedford Speedway, the winning continued. Snook was able to roll from the 8th starting spot and quickly grab 5th. The march to the front continued, and a caution around halfway through the feature gave Lane the chance to pounce for the lead. After passing and driving away with the lead, the 23 car again pulled onto the stage and took home a second checkered flag, in the second visit to the big half mile.

Speed and great results have now become a normality for the Mifflintown driver, but not without hard work. “I think a lot of it (what’s been working) is what I’ve learned in Florida. Some of it is me getting better as a driver,” stated Snook. Really being a student of the game and committing each night to keeping an eye on track conditions and also to what he’s feeling in the car have all been contributing factors to the success of the 23 team. Getting to experience a lot of different tracks has also helped, even with some of the last-second planning. “We definitely ended up racing some places we didn’t plan on this month.” Even with this lack of time to mentally prepare, “with a car that’s very balanced everywhere, we don’t have to change much in between each track.” Snook tries to keep a level head and not let the change in plans ruin the chance to put up strong results.

Strong results have been the name of the game this season. With the team running 16 races in the limited ranks, through June 1st, Snook has been able to finish inside the top 10 in 15 of those races. Podium finishes have also been stacking up, with Snook garnering 13 in three months of racing. And with a winning percentage right around 44%, all stats point towards a strong year, and Snook is hopeful that the team “can keep the momentum rolling.”

June kicked off with a win, and the team hopes to see more of the same in the coming weeks. Schedule plans include a week off for a trip to Eldora for the Dream, but then pick right back up June 12th with a return to Selinsgrove Speedway and Port Royal on the 14th. Selinsgrove is again on the card the following weekend. The 27th is currently to be determined, with the team planning to round out the month on the 28th, at Port Royal.
