Zach Newlin and the BK Motorsports team were back at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night with the Grove Financial & Associates / Dillman Hauling / Centre Roofing & Contracting / Mattas Motorsports / Victory Auto / Ron’s RV Sales / The Roast Post / Tuscarora Roofing Co. / FIT Transportation / Kirby Kitner Excavating / Christine Booher, Realtor / T&M Homebuilders / Strange Oval / Walker Performance Filtration / Newlin Bar Service No.77.

The new team’s night got off to a good start, but as is often the case when you are in the early stages of building a program, not everything goes as planned.

June 11th:  Port Royal Speedway / Port Royal, PA

     [21 cars, Heat 4th (6), A-main 17th (10)]

Zach started 6th alongside Kassidy Kreitz in the first of three 8-lap heat races of the evening for the 21 cars that had entered.  All cars would qualify for the A-main, but Newlin had his eyes on a top three finish to claim one of the handicap spots, which would have given the Millerstown, PA driver a starting spot near the front of the night’s 25-lap finale.

Zach Daddy, as he is affectionately known by fans, was able to take over the 5th spot on the opening lap, then work his way into 4th on the following circuit.  Over the remaining six trips around ‘The Speed Palace’, he was unable to track down Rick Lafferty for a shot at a handicap spot.  Looking stronger and more comfortable, Newlin came home 4th.

In the feature event, Newlin lined up mid-pack, on the outside of the fifth row.  From the drop of the green, he was on the defensive.  After losing a few spots on the opening lap, Newlin searched to find a line that made his X1 Race Car ‘happy’.  He battled but slid to a 17th place finish.

I want to say thanks to Brett (Knable) for this opportunity.  We are building something here, and it’s just going to take time.  The process can be frustrating, but we just need to keep racing.  We will get it figured out., Newlin said.

Up Next

Zach Newlin will return to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night, June 18th in the BK Motorsports No.77 for Open Wheel Madness II, where the 410 sprint cars will go after a $5,000 winner’s share.  The event will feature the ‘USAC Eastern Blast’ with the USAC National wingless sprints racing for $6,000-to-win and the USAC Silver Crown cars competing for a top prize of $8,000.
