Since debuting his new Team Zero Bloomquist car in early July, Trever Feathers has shown the level of performance and overall consistency he expects of himself and his team.  Sure, there are still off nights, like when he struggled at Hagerstown last weekend, but that will always be part of racing.

Coming into Saturday night’s event at Port Royal Speedway, Feathers had recorded a win and a runner-up finish in two starts with the new car at the Pennsylvania fairgrounds half-mile.  He was looking to keep that streak of podium finishes going on Port Royal’s $5,000 to win Living Legends Dream Race night.

  • Date:  August 19, 2023
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  32 cars, Qualifying 13th, Heat 3rd (3), A-main 8th (11)

Keep the Momentum Going

Feathers put himself in good position by kicking off the night with the 13th quickest time trial lap despite going out 28th in the qualifying order.  Although he wasn’t able to advance in the heat race, he held his ground and brought home a 3rd place finish in the 8-lap qualifying race.

We were off just a tick in the heat race but it was pretty much one preferred line through the middle, so I think we pretty much got what we could get in that one.“, Feathers commented.

The McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, Feathers & Sons Roofing, North River Farm, Leggett Engine Research, Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Team Zero Race Cars, Shane McDowell Racing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Fox Racing Shox, Bo Feathers Racing, Clem’s Garage, No.20 lined up 11th for the 25-lap feature event.  After slipping a few spots on the initial start, Feathers found his rhythm and broke into the top ten on lap seven.

Feathers continued to grind and worked his way further inside the top ten, ultimately coming home with an 8th place finish when the checkers waived.

We have some balance stuff to work on.  We have been a lot better lately with this Team Zero car but we aren’t quite where we need to be yet.  We’re close.  We’ll keep chipping away at it.“, Feathers said.

We had a rough week last week at Hagerstown.  We broke a transmission, which broke the drive shaft and damaged the rear end, so we had a lot of work to do this past week to be ready for (Port Royal) tonight.  With all that, tonight wasn’t a bad run for us.

Up Next

Feathers will return to Port Royal Speedway for this weekend’s 2-day Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series Rumble By the River.  Friday night August 25th the field will be split to compete in two $5,000 to win features and the following night all eyes will be on the team who can make the field for the $50,000 to win finale.

It’s going to be a tough field here (at Port Royal) next weekend with the Lucas Oil guys in town.  We will give it our best and try to find a way into the big show Saturday night.  Hopefully things will go our way.“, Feathers added.

Feathers Gets Back to Victory Lane at Port Royal

Rewarding Win Validation Virginia Team’s Long Hours Are Paying Off

Port Royal, PA – August 8, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

The struggles date back to the 2022 season for Trever Feathers.  He and his team managed to log a couple wins over the course of the season, but finding a consistent balance and steady performance was difficult.

In search of that, Feathers and his team have made a lot of changes to their equipment and various aspects of their program over the past year.  Lately there have been signs of a return to past form.

Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, Feathers made it clear the team is a factor again.

  • Date:  August 5, 2023
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Qualifying 4th in Group 1, Heat 2nd (1), A-main 1st (3)

Setting the Stage

Saturday’s show at Port Royal Speedway got off to a reasonable start for Feathers.  There were 29 cars on hand, split into three groups for qualifying and heat races.  Trever qualified 4th in Group 1.

An inversion put Feathers on the pole of the first heat race of the night.  After an early battle for the lead saw the Winchester, VA driver lead lap two, he rode home in 2nd to put himself firmly in a handicap spot.

The Finale

Feathers lined up 3rd for the 25-lap feature event in the McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, Feathers & Sons Roofing, North River Farm, Leggett Engine Research, Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Team Zero Race Cars, Shane McDowell Racing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Fox Racing Shox, Bo Feathers Racing, Clem’s Garage, No.20.

The opening laps were closely contested among the top four, with Feathers hovering between 3rd and 4th over the first eight laps.

After battling Ross Robinson and Jim Bernheisel for several laps, Feathers finally took clear possession of 3rd on lap eleven, and one lap later made his move into the runner-up spot.

With ten laps remaining, Feathers caught leader Bryan Bernheisel.  Meanwhile, Gregg Satterlee was also charging toward the front of the field and was hot on the heels of the No.20.

Feathers used the low side of the speedway during much of the main event, but was able to move to the middle and high side when he needed to in order to navigate traffic.  On lap sixteen he took command of the top spot and kept up a quick and aggressive pace through traffic to keep Satterlee at bay.

Feathers recorded his first win of 2023 by a 0.915 margin of victory.

It’s been a while.“, a smiling Feathers said as he climbed out of his No.20 in victory lane.  “This car has been unbelievable.  We were good here last time too.  I can’t thank Shane McDowell and all the guys down in Tennessee enough.  This Team Zero car has been so good, so thanks to him and Sarah as well as Scott Bloomquist.

These American Racer tires have been so good.  I want to thank Dustin over there for everything he does for us.  These tires really hold up, which saves us money.  That’s really important to be able to sustain our program.“, Feathers continued.

Thank you to my mom, my dad and my grandfather.  Thank you to my uncle Jimmy who has been a huge supporter of mine since the beginning with McFarland’s Custom Painting.  Larry and Lisa Royston do so much for me with our other car.

Feathers went on to allude to some things happening for the team in the next couple weeks that he feels will make the team even better, especially early in the night.

Shout out to Coffelt Graphics who always keeps our cars looking great.  Thanks to Roger at Fox Shox.  Their shocks were sweet tonight.  The horsepower Rick Leggett gives us runs so good I don’t even have to watch the gauges.  And of course, I need to thank my guys too.“, Feathers concluded.

Berry Working to Regain Form at Port Royal

Upcoming Schedule Revised To Get Prepared for Upcoming Big Shows

Port Royal, PA – August 8, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Austin Berry has made some notable achievements this season as he continues to build his super late model program.  There was a runner-up finish at Selinsgrove Speedway, a podium finish at Clinton County Speedway in his first race there, and a personal best finish at Hagerstown Speedway among others.

The thing that stands out most is that he has struggled more at the place he has the most career laps, Port Royal Speedway.  His average finish after his first seven races at his home track in 2023 is 12.3.  It’s not what Berry expected from himself and his team given their steady performance improvements in recent seasons.

With only a handful of races remaining at ‘The Speed Palace’ this season for the super late models, which includes a few of the most lucrative events of the season, Berry is looking to turn things around and end the season on a high note.

  • Date:  August 5, 2023
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Qualifying 9th in Group 2, Heat 6th (9), A-main 14th (17)

Trying to Break the Pattern

Berry was among 29 teams signed in for action at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night where time trials within each heat race group would set the lineups for those 8-lap contests.

The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance / Stock Car Steel & Aluminum, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis, Austin Berry Racing No.86 has had troubles qualifying well recently, putting the team in a hole to dig out of later in the night.

Unfortunately, Saturday was more of the same.  Berry qualified 9th in Group 2 and had to start deep in the heat race lineup.  With only the top six finishers transferring to the A-main, he had his work cut out for him.

Berry was able to put on an early charge and reach 6th to make the transfer.  He would need more of the same in the feature to complete the turnaround of his night.

After taking the green in 17th for the 25-lap main event, Berry was able to make forward progress.  He reached 14th by lap three but the progress stalled there.

More of the same unfortunately.”, a frustrated Berry said.  “We just weren’t very good in time trials, then when we tightened up for the heat race, we were pretty decent.  For a while here we had really good balance in the car and we could adjust from that.  Lately we seem to have lost that sweet spot.  We’re trying to get back to that.

In the early part of the feature we had a pretty good car but something changed.  I’m not sure what but the handling went away pretty suddenly with about ten laps remaining.

The team later found a spark plug had failed and their right rear tire had a small hole in it.  One or both could have added up to the sudden changes Berry felt.

Up Next

Berry said the team has decided to take the coming weekend off to go over their equipment and work on some changes to get the balance back that he is looking for.

The team will head to BAPS Motor Speedway Wednesday night August 16th for a test session, then will return to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday, August 19th for their final opportunity to dial in the Rocket XR1 for the upcoming Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series events.

Berry Rebounds With Personal Best at Hagerstown in Frank Sagi Tribute

Team Will Take Upcoming Weekend Off, Return July 29th at Port Royal

Hagerstown, MD – July 19, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jason Walls / WRT Speedwerx

Austin Berry has been trying to find speed during the early part of the race night all year.  He has found it in flashes here and there during an occasional time trial show, but in large part he has had to race his tail off late in the night to move toward the front.

Last week at Port Royal the team tried some new things to remedy that and it didn’t work exactly as hoped, although the team did learn from the changes.  Sunday night Berry was back at the track to try again among a high quality field of 43 super late models at Hagerstown Speedway for the Frank Sagi Tribute race.

  • Date:  July 16, 2023
  • Event:  Frank Sagi Tribute
  • Track:  Hagerstown Speedway
  • City, State:   Hagerstown, MD
  • Quick Stats:  43 cars, Qualifying 8th in Group 1, Heat 5th (8), A-main 10th (17)

Slow Start South of the Mason-Dixon Line

Berry went out late in Group 1 qualifying and turned in a lap that put him a disappointing 8th in the heat race starting lineup.  The track had a ton of grip in it as a result of a late afternoon rain shower and Berry’s No.86 was just a bit too tight and needed a little more horsepower than he had available to counter that.

The Mifflin, PA native quickly turned that slow start into a positive.  Berry charged all the way to 5th on the opening lap of the heat race.  He was unable to run down Rick Eckert and settled for a 5th place finish, which was good enough to transfer directly to the feature event.

Heading North With A Personal Best

Berry started 17th in the 30-lap Frank Sagi Tribute A-main.  Over the opening ten laps it looked like he was in for a long night.

Suddenly, The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis No.86 came alive.

On lap twelve Berry moved into 15th and by lap fifteen he had cracked the top ten.   Late in the race he slipped back to 11th for a handful of laps but he continued to battle and he was able to slip back into the 10th spot on the final circuit.  It was Berry’s career best finish at Hagerstown.

I found the middle right at the end there and it really worked for me.  Wish I had found that a few laps earlier, I think we could’ve picked off a couple more spots.”, Berry said.  We learned some things over the past couple races, so this week we talked with Jim (Stevens – JDS Racing) and made some changes.  The car was really good there in the feature, we just didn’t qualify good again and got ourselves in a hole.

“I’m learning behind the wheel every week and the team is learning every time we race too.  We will get the qualifying figured out early in the night and then we will be able to race for more podiums.  At least I can leave here tonight saying I beat Gary Stuhler at Hagerstown.  I’ve never done that before.“, Berry concluded with a smile.

Stuhler finished 12th  Sunday night.  He and Berry have become friends in recent years and beating the hall of fame driver, who he respects tremendously, at track where he has had so much success in his career gave Berry a moment to reflect on his journey as a driver to get to this point in his own career.

Feathers 7th Sunday in Sagi Tribute After Tough Saturday at Winchester

Team Planning Weekend Off, Evaluating Upcoming Schedule Options

Hagerstown, MD – July 19, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jason Walls / WRT Speedwerx

Coming off his runner-up finish at Port Royal Speedway on July 8th, Trever Feathers set out on a two-race weekend at his home track, Winchester (VA) Speedway, and Hagerstown (MD) Speedway, hoping to continue to run well and put together a string of good finishes.

  • Date:  July 15, 2023
  • Event:  Junior Boone Memorial
  • Track:  Winchester Speedway
  • City, State:   Winchester, VA
  • Quick Stats:  27 cars, Qualifying 15th, Heat 3rd (4), A-main 24th (11)

  • Date:  July 16, 2023
  • Event:  Frank Sagi Tribute
  • Track:  Hagerstown Speedway
  • City, State:   Hagerstown, MD
  • Quick Stats:  43 cars, Qualifying 4th in Group 2, Heat 4th (4), A-main 7th (14)

Hometown Saturday Night

Feathers was among a field of 27 drivers signed in to compete in the Junior Boone Memorial at Winchester (VA) Speedway Saturday night, which offered the winner $5,015 to win, a guaranteed starting spot in Sunday’s Frank Sagi Tribute race at Hagerstown and a potential bonus of $1,500 if they could win both races.

In single group qualifying, Feathers hit the track last thanks to an unfriendly pill draw and his best lap ranked 15th overall.  The lap put him in 4th in the lineup for his heat race, which he converted into a 3rd place finish.

Feathers started 11th in 35-lap feature but struggled early with an ill-handling car and retired early from the event.

Sunday Night Rally

Sunday night’s Frank Sagi Tribute race at Hagerstown Speedway in northern Maryland attracted a strong field of 43 super late models.  A shower hit the speedway less than two hours before racing was to begin, putting a little extra moisture into the surface.

Feathers turned in the 4th fastest lap in Group 2 qualifying, landing him outside row two to start his heat race.

On the start of the 8-lap race, Feathers took the 3rd spot, but he slid high off turn two slipped back to 4th at the line.  On the fast, locked down surface that was difficult to pass on, he went on to finish 4th in the Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, North River Farm, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Team Zero Race Cars, Shane McDowell Racing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Fox Racing Shox, Bo Feathers Racing, Clem’s Garage, No.20.

After making some adjustments during the break, Feathers lined up 14th for the 30-lap main event and settled into a rhythm in the early going.  On lap eight he moved into the 12th spot and started to chip his way toward the top ten.

On lap twelve Feathers cracked the top ten and continued to methodically close on the front-runners.  With seven laps remaining, he wrestled the 7th spot away from Jeff Rine and set his sights on Jason Covert in 6th.  The laps ran out with Feathers in 7th.

Man, the car was phenomenal tonight.  We needed to time a little better earlier tonight and we would have been right in the thick of it.“, Feathers said.  It was a good late rally though.  The extra moisture probably worked against us.

This car is comfortable, and it responds to what we are doing.  We’ve only got a few races under our belt with it, but we are learning quickly.”

“I’m excited for the rest of our season; we just need to be smart about using the resources we have.  It would really help us compete in some of the bigger shows that are coming up if we could add another partner to the team.  Hopefully we will catch somebody’s eye.“, Feathers added.

Up Next

Feathers plans to take the upcoming weekend off and the team is evaluating their schedule options beyond that.  Stay tuned to Trever’s social media outlets listed below or check Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events to find his latest schedule at any time.

Trivia Question

The answer to our last trivia question is for a long time the track at the top of Trever Feathers wish list to compete at was East Bay Raceway Park in Brandon, FL.  He was able to check that goal off in 2020 when he joined the Lucas Oil Late Models there for their entire Winternationals week!

Now, on to this week’s question.  TBD?

Trever Feathers Debuts New Car, New Look With Runner-up Finish at Port Royal

Winchester/Hagerstown Double On Deck This Weekend

Port Royal, PA – July 12, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Trever Feathers took the first weekend of July off to, in his words, “hit reset”.  Now we not only know what he meant, we know it was the right choice…and it paid off.

Feathers debuted a new Team Zero car wrapped with a sharp black, grey and blue new look, carrying his trademark gold No.20.

Not only did the new mount look good, it raced good too.

  • Date:  July 8, 2023
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  32 cars, Heat 2nd (3), A-main 2nd (5)

Starting Off On the Right Foot

With a high quality field of 32 teams on hand for Saturday night’s race at Port Royal Speedway,  Feathers would not have time to ease into finding out what his new car was capable of.   He would need to be on his game from the time he fired the engine.

Heat lineups were set by pill draw and only the top five finishers would move on, with the top three being handicapped.  A favorable draw put Feathers inside row two for his heat race but at the drop of the green he slipped back to 4th, on the outside looking in at a handicap spot.

Feathers found his rhythm and chased down Cory Lawler on lap four to claim 3rd, and he wasn’t done yet.  On lap six he tracked down Nick Dickson to claim the runner-up spot.  In a preview of things to come, the Winchester, VA native then went after leader Bryan Bernheisel.  Feathers ran out of time and took the 2nd place finish.

True Test

Returning to Port Royal Speedway (where they have the most laps this year) was a good measuring stick to find out how good the new car would be, but the running of the feature event would be the true test.  There were other nights this season when Feathers was good early, only to see the tables turn completely at the end of the night.

Feathers started the 25-lap feature inside row three.  He held his ground in 5th for the first two circuits, then went to work aboard the Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, North River Farm, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Team Zero Race Cars, Shane McDowell Racing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Fox Racing Shox, Bo Feathers Racing, Clem’s Garage, No.20.

On lap three, Feathers powered into the 2nd spot, advancing three spots in one lap.  His crosshairs were set on leader Bernheisel, and he began gradually closing the gap.

As the race approached ten laps remaining, Feathers was clearly the faster car, using the low line to his advantage.  He was ready to pounce and claim the lead when the first caution of the event came out.

Following a Delaware Double File restart, Feathers once again took sole possession of the runner-up spot.  He remained on Bernheisel’s back bumper but wasn’t able to pull alongside.  The race ended with Feathers in 2nd.

I didn’t need that caution but I’m pretty happy with how this Team Zero car raced for us tonight.  I was pretty sure I hadn’t forgotten how to drive.“, a noticeably more relaxed Feathers grinned, referring to the rough season he has battled through so far.

“That might be the best car I’ve ever had here.

That’s a big statement from someone who has won multiple races at ‘The Speed Palace’.

I want to give a big shout-out and thank you to Shane McDowell for all the support he has given us with this car.  We bought this car from him, and he has been great to work with.  We have a good piece here.  We can build on this.“, Feathers added.

Hopefully this is the turning point for us, and we can put a solid second half of the season together.

Up Next

Saturday night, July 15th, Feathers will make the four mile tow to his hometown track, Winchester Speedway (VA) for the Junior Boone Memorial, which will pay $5,015 to the winner and will also make that driver automatically qualified for the Frank Sagi Tribute race at Hagerstown Speedway (MD) the following night.

Feathers also plans to make the trip to Hagerstown Sunday night for the Sagi Tribute.

Season Stats

12 races, 0 wins, 4 top 5’s, 5 top 10’s, 8 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to our last trivia question is Trever Feathers won his first Super Late Model race in his (C) 8th career super late model start at the Paul Johnson Memorial at Winchester (VA) Speedway!

Now, on to this week’s question.  What racetrack was at the top of Trever’s list for a long time as a place he wanted to race at…and he finally accomplished that goal in 2020 by racing there for the first time?

The answer in the next press release!

Austin Berry Not Satisfied With Performance Saturday Night at Port Royal

Hagerstown’s July 16th Frank Sagi Tribute Next on the Slate for ABR

Port Royal, PA – July 11, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Austin Berry has been pretty good this season.  He has had some highlights and some lowlights thus far in 2023.

What he and the team want though is more consistency and a few ‘higher’ highlights.  They have fallen short of the number of podium finishes they expected of themselves so far.  That said, they have also achieved a couple things they didn’t believe they could, like running up front at Clinton County Speedway on their first trip there.

Sometimes two steps forward and three steps back is not only the temporary combination necessary to end up ten steps forward, it might be the sign you are on the right path to get there.

  • Date:  July 8, 2023
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  32 cars,  Heat 4th (4), A-main 12th (16)

Saturday Night Stomping Grounds

A stout field of 32 super late models was on hand Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway for a regular Saturday night show, which offers a tidy $4,000 to the winner.

Berry and The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis No.86 were on hand for their first weekly race since completing the grueling Late Model Speedweek in June.

Heat lineups were set by pill draw and Berry got a reasonable outside 2nd row starting spot to kick off his night.  The top five finishers would transfer to the main event but the goal was a top three finish, which would put the driver inside the handicap for the night’s feature.

Berry, who often make a lot of forward progress on the opening lap of heat races, didn’t get his typical start.  He fell in line in 4th and went to work on chasing down Dillan Stake.  He got by Stake on lap four but two laps later lost the spot in a heated three-way battle with Tim Wilson.  Berry settled for a fourth place finish.  He would have to work from deeper in the field in the finale later that night.

Not Good Enough

Instead of a top ten starting spot from the handicap, Berry rolled to the green for the 25-lap A-main in the 16th spot.  He managed solid progress early, reaching 12th by lap four.

One lap later, Berry slipped back three spots, losing almost all of the ground he had made.  From there he trudged on, scratching and clawing his way back to 12th again with ten laps remaining.  Once again, he found himself battling Stake, the two exchanging positions multiple times.

Berry reclaimed 12th and held on to finish there at the checkered flag.  It wasn’t the type of performance Berry expects of himself and his team these days.

“We just weren’t very good tonight.  We tried some things to get faster earlier in the night but I don’t think that hurt us.  We just missed the setup.”, Berry said.  “We know this place better than anywhere and we expect to run in the top ten here every week.  When we don’t, we’re not happy.”

“Nothing to do but learn from it, get back to work and get it right next time.”

Now, on to this week’s question.  What is Austin Berry’s favorite meal?

Trever Feathers Chips Away to Fourth Place Finish in Spence Memorial at Winchester

Team Will Take Upcoming Weekend Off to Reset

Winchester, VA – June 27, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Trever Feathers was looking forward to racing in his own backyard Saturday night.  Winchester Speedway has been good to him over the years and it’s where he has the most laps, not to mention a lot of success.

That makes it a good measuring stick for his program.

Given the challenges of the 2023 season thus far and the amount of changes the team recently made trying to get back on track, it was a good time for that.  To make it even better, Saturday was the Jimmy Spence Memorial.  Spence was Feather’s great uncle.

  • Date:  June 24, 2023
  • Event:  Jimmy Spence Memorial
  • Track:  Winchester Speedway
  • City, State:   Winchester, VA
  • Quick Stats:  25 cars, Qualifying 10th, Heat 3rd (3), Amain 4th (10)

Honoring Jimmy Spence

Feathers was slightly in disguise in the field of 25 cars that took to Winchester Speedway Saturday night for the Spence Memorial.  That’s because the Winchester native’s super late model was sporting a tribute scheme to honor his great uncle, including the No.91 Spence made famous.

The night started off a bit average for Feathers.  He timed 10th quick overall, then started and finished 3rd in his heat race.  It wasn’t flashy but he was locked into a top ten starting spot and with the main event scheduled for 51 laps, there would be plenty of time to go to the front.

Feathers took the green from outside row five.  After a dozen laps, he was still mired in 10th, treading water so to speak.

During the middle section of the feature, Feathers made his way into 8th and held that spot for fifteen laps before beginning to gain ground again.  On lap 34, he cracked the top five, then briefly took 4th with fifteen laps remaining before dropping to 5th again.

As the race drew to a close, Feathers got one more shot at Kenny Moreland and wrestled the 4th spot away with three laps to go.  He held on there for the checkered flag.

It was a good night but my car probably wasn’t as good as where we finished.  We got better as the night went but I think our tire choice, managing my stuff for a longer race and just giving the car what it wanted helped me move forward late in the race.“, Feathers said.

We have made some progress but we still aren’t where we need to be.  Good or bad, I put a lot of pressure on myself to perform.  Like most teams, we need to run well to pay our bills.”

Up Next

Following a lot of late nights in the shop recently working to turn their season around, Feathers indicated the team’s current plans are to sit out this weekend to reset, regroup and go over their equipment.

Tentative plans would be to return to action Saturday, July 8th at Port Royal Speedway in the Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, North River Farm, Clem’s Garage, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Bilstein Shocks, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Bo Feathers Racing, Barry Wright Race Cars, No.20.

Season Stats

11 races, 0 wins, 3 top 5’s, 4 top 10’s, 7 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to our last trivia question is Trever Feathers’ favorite soda/soft drink is Dr. Pepper!

Now, on to this week’s question.  In 2012, Trever won his first Super Late Model race in his __?__  career super late model start at the Paul Johnson Memorial at Winchester (VA) Speedway.

Was it his:

  • (A) 2nd start
  • (B) 5th start
  • (C) 8th start
  • (D) 10th start

Determined Feathers Fighting Through Uncharacteristic Issues

Will Compete in Saturday’s Spence Memorial at Winchester Speedway in Honor of Great Uncle

Abbottstown, PA – June 21, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Trever Feathers has a lot of experience with and knowledge of super late models, plus a proven track record behind the wheel.  Victories, championships and numerous accolades have accumulated over the past fifteen years.

All of that only makes the 2023 season that much more frustrating, not directly because of the lack of success, but because of the doubt that creeps in about your abilities.

After dropping out at Port Royal Speedway and finishing 18th at Hagerstown Speedway the prior weekend, Feathers spent long hours in the shop making big changes to his car, trying to find the missing combination before heading to Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.

  • Date:  June 17, 2023
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  43 cars, Qualifying 9th in Group A, Heat 3rd (3), A-main 15th (17)

Laboring at Lincoln

Feathers was among 43 drivers signed in for the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek show at the Abbottstown, PA oval.  Either the big changes would solve his issues or he would at least learn what the solution wasn’t.

Feathers’ night started much like the last several had gone.  An average qualifying run, 9th in Group A on this particular night.  That was followed by another average result, a 3rd place finish in his heat race.  These aren’t horrible results, and some drivers would welcome them, but Feathers has higher expectations of his abilities.

The Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, North River Farm, Clem’s Garage, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Bilstein Shocks, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Bo Feathers Racing, Barry Wright Race Cars, No.20 took the green for the 35-lap main event with Feathers on the inside of row nine.

When the checkers fell, it was a 15th place finish for Feathers.  Another frustrating outcome given the long hours and hard work that he has invested this season to get better.

We changed a lot since Hagerstown and ended up with the same result.  That’s the kind of thing that will drive you crazy.”, Feathers said.  “Honestly, we’re not off by much.  It’s just a tenth or tenth-and-a-half of a second but with this kind of competition, that’s all it takes to go from being in the mix to being a non-factor.

I’m trying to do my job to get the best finishes I can get out of the car and to not crash it.  It just hasn’t responded to the things we know are proven to work.  I’ll be honest, there are weeks I don’t want to go to the track.  But we won’t get better staying home.

You could hear the passion in Feathers’ voice.

I’m going to fight until I figure this out.  When we finally get this car back up front, it will be very satisfying because we didn’t quit.“, Feathers said.

Up Next

This Saturday, June 24th, Feathers will race in his hometown at Winchester Speedway in an event in memory of his great uncle, Jimmy Spence.  The No.20 will carry a special paint scheme to honor Spence.

Spence accumulated nearly 40 wins at Winchester, Hagerstown, Lincoln, Cumberland and Bedford over his nine year career in the seat of everything from enduro cars  to limited late models to super late models.

Season Stats

10 races, 0 wins, 2 top 5’s, 3 top 10’s, 6 top 15’s

Austin Berry and his team saw both ends of the spectrum over the first three Appalachian Mountain Speedweek events, then took advantage of the day off to regroup and heal some wounds on their Rocket XR1 before embarking on the balance of the series schedule.

Mission number one was to survive, to run all the races.  Mission number two was to perform well.  Contact at Hagerstown almost ended both missions but they were alive and well heading into Tuesday.

Penalized at Path Valley

Yet another stout field of 43 super late models unloaded at Path Valley Speedway for a Tuesday night installment of Speedweek.  Austin Berry and The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis No.86 was among them.

Berry qualified 7th in Group A to earn a front row starting spot in his heat race.  The initial start saw a caution flag appear before a lap was completed.  On the second attempt, a debatable call penalized the Mifflin, PA native for getting on the gas early.

The call put Berry back one row for the third attempt to start the race.  From there he raced to a 3rd place finish, which put him 17th on the grid for the feature.

We both got on the throttle at the same time but he spun his tires and I got grip.  I’m sure it looked like I went and he didn’t but that’s not how I saw it.“, Berry said about the heat race penalty.  “It was their call though and I just have to accept it and move on.

Before the finale could take to the track the rains came.  In a way it must have felt like another penalty of sorts to Berry.  A chance to dig out of the hole created by Sunday night’s trip to Hagerstown and recover some points was taken away.

Through the B-Main at Bedford

Thirty-eight teams made their way to Bedford Speedway Thursday for night five of Speedweek.  Berry turned in a disappointing 12th best time in his group, putting him 5th in his heat race starting lineup.

Berry was unable to move forward in the heat race and thus landed in the 3rd starting spot in his first B-main of the week.  He turned in a runner-up finish to find his way into the main event.

The A-main was the bright spot of the night.  Berry put on a steady, workmanlike climb from his 22nd starting spot to bring home a hard-earned 13th place finish.  It was a welcome outcome to a tough night.

The second night at Bedford was washed out by rain, sending teams back toward Central Pennsylvania early for the final two shows of the series.

Pushing Through in the Pigeon Hills

The Appalachian Mountain Speedweek series moved on to the Pigeon Hills of Pennsylvania and 43 cars made their way to the well-known Lincoln Speedway.

Austin Berry Racing had turned in a notable performance there a few weeks earlier, passing a lot of cars before the engine expired on the No.86.  On this night, they kicked things off with an 11th quick time in Group B qualifying.

Berry quickly put his car in the show by racing to a 3rd place finish in his heat race after starting outside the second row.

Taking the green from the outside spot in row nine, Berry battled a tough surface to move up to a 13th place finish in the A-main.

Selinsgrove Surge

Although it had not been a friendly place to him on several occasions, Berry was looking forward to returning to Selinsgrove Speedway for the series’ finale.  A month earlier he had led a large portion of the feature and wound up 2nd at the end of the night.

The night didn’t get off to the start he was hoping for as the team experienced carburetor issues in qualifying.  Berry still managed to be 9th quick in Group A but felt he gave up a few positions as a result of the issue.

Like the night before, Berry went from 4th to 3rd in his heat race to lock into the A-main and once again he went forward in the main event.

Berry started 17th and immediately began chipping away, navigating his way forward in the running order.  On lap thirteen he cracked the top ten and was looking for a way to reel in the top five.  He managed a 9th place finish to cap off the week.

ABR's First Complete Speedweek

While their average finishing position and final points position both fell a little short of their goals, there were several positive takeaways from their Appalachian Mountain Speedweek experience and performance.

Six of the possible eight A-mains were raced and Berry made five of them.  In those five starts he logged a podium, a top ten and three lucky 13th place finishes.  But that doesn’t really tell the story.

Berry hit the track for competitive action 12 times and gained positions in 8 of those.  In the 3 times he lost positions, 2 of those were only 1 spot.

Berry’s overall net positions for Speedweek heat races, dashes and features combined was  +23 positions.  That’s a stat representative of a team that knows how to race but needs to improve their time trial program.  When they do, they will be a consistent contender for wins.

The past ten days has been invaluable experience for me and the team.  We don’t usually get to time trial much and so I would get nervous, but after a few nights in this series it became standard procedure and I got a lot more comfortable with it.  That’s the part of our program we still need to improve…both the car and me…but we made a lot of progress this week.“, Berry said.

“It was a lot of work to run this series but I enjoyed it no matter how little sleep I got.  We got to experience a lot of different disciplines by running all week.  Different tracks, different conditions, recovering from a crash…it will all help our program in the end.”

Berry and his team improved little things as the week went on.  Things that will prepare them better even for weekly racing the rest of the season.

We had thoughts of going out to Lernerville to run the Firecracker 100.  That’s something I eventually want to do but we have a lot of equipment to go over and maintenance…not just the race car but also the four wheeler, the generator, the truck, everything.  Plus, the guys and I have to get back to our day jobs and frankly everyone is pretty worn out from the long hours, travel and everything it took to run eight races in ten days.  That said, we don’t regret a second of it.

Berry finished the series 11th in points, just 16 outside of the top ten…and the money.  If not for circumstances beyond their control at Hagerstown and Path Valley, it is very likely the team would have finished the series inside the top ten.  That is part of racing though.  Much of what happens is not in your control.

I’ll definitely come back and run it again but I know what we need to improve and change to be ready to do it again.  If and when we do this again, it will be to run top five in the points.”, Berry concluded.

Built for Motorsports

Hand made in the USA, GO Lithium’s batteries are purpose built for racing. They provide the endurance and durability you can trust. With 1250 cranking amps, weighing only 9 pounds, and used by champions around the country, you can be positive GO Lithium is the correct choice for your team.

The GO Lithium battery has undergone 7 years of research, development, and testing, plus they went one step further and did Real World Dyno Testing.   Their 16V battery is incredibly powerful, recharges quickly, and weighs in at only 9 pounds!  With the lighter weight, the racer is able to reduce gross weight or move ballast where it will be most effective.

“People don’t think of batteries as a difference-maker, but the GO Lithium batteries will help us perform better as a result of the weight reduction, not to mention the reliable power.”, Berry commented.

Prismatic cells are more durable and are able to store more power in a smaller area, and that is the technology GO Lithium leveraged to create the only battery on the market using the unique approach.

Built for Safety

GO Lithium’s Battery is safe and was specifically designed for racing applications.  To test, a Lithium cell is subjected to a puncture test in which a steel rod is driven through the cell.  GO Lithium Cells passed this test without any explosion or fire.  This can be an issue with other types of lithium batteries.

The Ultralight Lithium Battery from GO Lithium is also internally balanced, which ensures that the battery discharges and charges its prismatic cells equally. Cell balancing on the battery, which is expensive and thus many manufacturers choose not to do it, increases the lifespan of the product dramatically.
