Lane Snook Showing Speed with Mixed Results in July

With the race season already flying by in what has been a whirlwind season for the young racer, Lane would have the month of July to race all three cars he’s been running in the late model ranks. Results have been all over the board, but speed has been a consistent piece most nights.

Kicking off the month of July, Lane would get to wheel the Bruce Kane 15K at Bedford Speedway. The pairing of Kane and Lane was still very new, and the package was still lacking a little speed. Snook would go 8th to 7th in the heat, and the 13th to 12th in the feature. “Car was handling good, just had no speed.” This would be the only start in the 15K for the month.

Moving onto the next night of competition on the 10th, Lane went to Selinsgrove in the limited late model division. Lane nearly won his heat from 5th and then started in the 5th spot in the feature. As the green flew, he would drop back a few spots at the beginning of the feature. 

Snook started to search around the track for speed and, “ran the very top to make our way back to 4th with a restart with 6 to go.” That was a timely caution for Snook. He “was able to get to third off the restart, then get by the two leaders coming to 2 to go, for the win.” A great performance and certainly showed the continued speed of the limited program that fans witnessed park in victory lane a lot in 2025.

The following evening, the team had a home game at the Port Royal Speedway in the limited car. Lane would win his heat and then start on the pole of the feature.

“Didn’t get a good enough start to get to the top early and lost a few spots. Ended up running 4th most of the race, then with a car breaking and a couple restarts we ended up 3rd. I just felt like our car wasn’t very balanced.”

After taking a little damage at the end of the race and getting that fixed up, the team also decided to drop a super motor in the car and head over to Path Valley the following weekend.

Against ULMS at the small ¼ mile of Path Valley, Lane would have a very solid evening, timing in 2nd in his group and winning his heat. The track would make it a little tricky for Lane in the feature. After starting 3rd, Lane “got stuck on the bottom again early and lost a few spots. It was a little tight at the beginning, but the car was good at the end of the race, but with there being little passing, we ended up 6th.”

Snook would then go to Hagerstown to once again race with ULMS. The car was just a little off all night by the driver and team’s standards. “Qualified 11th in our group. Started 6th and ran 5th in our heat, which put us on the pole of the B-Main, where we finished 2nd. Then started 20th in the feature and finished 17th. Just kind of struggled to find speed all night.” 

Aside from races that featured mechanical issues, this was Lane’s worst finish of the season in the 23 car with the super under the hood. The team would, however, turn things around the rest of the month and pick up momentum.

Traveling back over to Selinsgrove in the super the next week, Lane qualified 2nd overall and won his heat. After rolling from the pole in the feature, Snook “led the first 19 laps, dicing through traffic, until we blew a right rear tire.”

An unfortunate moment for the young racer. “I lapped to 12th, so I got back to 10th in the remaining 6 laps after changing the tire.” The first super late model triumph would have to wait for another time.

In the final show of the month, Lane would travel west to Bedford Speedway as the fair and races took center stage. Lane started 6th in his heat and had a little hiccup and tagged the wall, but still managed a 4th place finish.

“After the crew and I got the car fixed, we started 11th in the feature. The car in front of me broke on the first lap in 1-2, and I had nowhere to go, and ended up falling back to 15th. I ran the top to get back to 9th, then with another car breaking, I got to 8th and finished there,” Snook explained.

“I felt we had a much better car than the results showed, but it was hard to pass once everyone moved to the top.” It was a good bounce-back after early misfortune, and showed the car could move forward even with a tricky track surface.

The next night, Snook would travel back over to Selinsgrove to open the month of August. Lane started off the night strong and timed in 2nd and then won his heat. With a front row starting spot in the feature, Lane would be in a good position to potentially win. Lane once again took the lead at the drop of the green. He was able to maintain the top spot until a restart with about 10 laps to go, where he got passed. Snook held on to finish second and tie his best finish of the season in the super late division.

Overall, the month of racing was nothing super special in terms of results, but the speed the team and driver were able to find at times shows that the package is coming together on a wide variety of tracks. Netting a win and strong podium with the limited, and accruing several top 10 finishes in the super, Lane looks to keep the positives coming in August.

As of now, the 23 car will be in action at the big half-miles of Selinsgrove and Hagerstown on August 7th and 8th. Then it will head to Bedford on the 14th. Snook also plans to run at Port Royal on the 22nd, in either the 23 or the 15K.

The last weekend of the month, the 15K will come out to race against the Lucas Oil Late Models in the Rumble By The River at Port. Lane will be getting that car ready this week.

“We took the car I ran at Lernerville and Bedford to Rocket. It was bent in the front end; got that all fixed now, gonna go put it together this week.”

Snook also mentioned he is “very excited to test in the next couple of weeks coming up” as they prepare for some big shows in the coming months.
