Hartlaub Compiling Impressive Season Stats, Rallies Late to Top 10 at Lincoln Speedway

Trips to Williams Grove and Lincoln Speedways Set for September 2nd-3rd

Abbottstown, PA – August 26, 2022

Kody Hartlaub entered the month of August working hard to get back to the way things were early in the 2022 season.  The team was still having successful runs but seemed to be faced with doing it the hard way.  They had gone from competing for podium finishes to a string of nights where a top ten was a tall order.

It’s said luck is when preparation meets opportunity.  Kody Hartlaub and his team were always prepared.  So, let’s just say they just needed better opportunities.

Three races were on the August calendar for Hartlaub and the Brewer Home Improvements / Moose Blocks / Smith Titanium / SRR Engines / Siegel Racing / T and N Solutions / Jason Emlet Iron Valley Real Estate / Bigham Appraisals / Pretzel Boy / HAAS Shocks / C.H. Folk & Son Feeds / Chop Designs / Herr Electric, Hartlaub Racing No.2 to get back to the front and compete for the wins they know they are capable of.

August 6:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     [29 cars, Heat 6th (6), B-main 2nd (4), A-main 11th (22)]

The first of Hartlaub’s three scheduled outings for the month fell victim to rain when Williams Grove Speedway’s August 5th event was cancelled.

The following night the team unloaded at Lincoln Speedway among a field of 29 cars prepared to compete in four 8-lap heat races to earn their spot in the main event.  The top five finishers in each transferred directly to the feature, with the top two being handicapped, while the rest of the field would get one last shot in the B-main to make the show.

Hartlaub’s pill draw for his heat race starting position wasn’t ideal.  He started outside the third row and steadily worked his way forward and into the runner up position when a caution appeared with two laps remaining.

Just after the restart, Hartlaub challenged the leader going into turn three, but the pair made light contact.  It was just enough to break the left front suspension on Hartlaub’s No.2.  He managed to get the car to the finish line but slid backward out of a handicap spot, and out of a transfer spot, to a 6th place finish.

Relegated to the B-main after not transferring through his heat, Hartlaub started 4th and quickly navigated his way to the 2nd spot.  This time he appeared to play it smart and not push the issue for the win.  With nothing to gain, Hartlaub rode home as the runner-up and put himself in the A-main.

Hartlaub started 22nd in the 20-lap main event and quickly went to work, finding his way to 16th on the opening lap.  His push forward seemed to stall during the middle phase of the race, but in the final six laps he charged forward.  He picked up a spot every other lap and was knocking on the door of a top ten when he ran out of laps, putting him 11th in the official rundown.

August 20:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     [29 cars, Heat 9th (9), B-main 1st (7), A-main 8th (19)]

Two weeks later, Hartlaub was back at Lincoln Speedway for another shot.  This time it was a Summer Series event for the 358 sprint cars and once again 29 teams signed in.

Hartlaub’s pill draw set the tone early for what would be yet another night he would have to work for everything he would get.  He lined up 9th in the first of three 8-lap heat races.  As is often the case early in the evening, the track was fast and narrow, making it even more challenging to pass cars.  The East Berlin, PA driver settled for 9th and turned his attention to B-main preparation.

Slated to line up seventh, Hartlaub’s job was to secure one of the top six transfer spots.  A couple cars did not make the call.  When the green flag waived, Hartlaub began chipping his way toward the front.  He took over the lead with three circuits remaining in the 10-lap consolation race and went on to capture the win.

Hartlaub started 19th in the 25-lap Summer Series A-main.  He raced into 16th on the opening lap but by the halfway point had only reached 14th.  That’s when the car seemed to come to life, or maybe preparation met opportunity.

Over the final twelve laps, Hartlaub charged from 14th to 8th and claimed another top ten on the season.

Reflecting on 2022 Thus Far

I’m proud of my team.  We have faced some tough situations over the last month or two, but we haven’t given up.  We fight to make the most out of every single night, and I think the stats show we’ve accomplished that.“, Hartlaub commented.

He’s right.  While the recent stretch has been an uphill battle for Hartlaub and his team, it’s important to note what this team has accomplished in 2022.

Despite not reaching victory lane yet, Hartlaub’s statistics are impressive.  He has passed 77 cars in 12 feature events at Lincoln Speedway, including double-digit numbers on 5 of those nights.  He has passed 27 cars in 4 feature events at Williams Grove Speedway.  Add in a plus-3 at Path Valley in May and that’s 107 cars passed in 17 features.

Another notable stat is that Hartlaub has gained positions in 16 of 17 features.  In the lone event where he did not move forward, he started 7th, went to the rear early in the event after contact with another car, then passed 10 cars to finish 12th.

Overall, Hartlaub has entered 17 events at three tracks, has compiled 13 top ten finishes and has yet to finish outside the top 15.

My goal…our goal…hasn’t changed.  The goal is to win.  All of this has just made us want that even more.  We will win, and when we do it’ll feel really good to know we kept digging and we got there.

Up Next

September will open with a Labor Day weekend double-header for Hartlaub.  The team will race on Friday, September 2nd at Williams Grove Speedway and Saturday, September 3rd at Lincoln Speedway.

The event at ‘The Grove’ is their 358 Match Race that was postponed from August.  The race offers up a lot of additional prize money for teams, plus fireworks for the fans.

Kody Hartlaub Working Through Challenging Stretch

Williams Grove and Lincoln on the Docket This Weekend

Abbottstown, PA – August 4, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Kody Hartlaub came out of the gate firing on all cylinders in 2022.  For the first three months of the season, he consistently ran near the front of the field and seemed to be on the verge of winning.

Then came the month of July and things suddenly got a little harder.  Hartlaub has the right mindset though.  This is the challenge that will make him and his team better.

July 9:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     [30 cars, Heat 7th (5), B-main 5th (8), A-main 12th (24)]

Another solid field of 30 cars signed in for 358 sprint car competition at Lincoln Speedway on July 9th.  Kody Hartlaub was among them and looking to continue or better his recent success at the Pigeon Hills oval.  He finished 2nd in both June events and was seeking his first victory of 2022.

Uncharacteristically, Hartlaub slid backwards in his 8-lap heat race.  With the top five finishers moving on to the A-main and the East Berlin, PA resident starting 5th, it seemed a foregone conclusion he would advance, but it didn’t play out that way.  A bad start shuffled Hartlaub to 7th, and he never recovered.

Hartlaub found himself in the B-main for the first time this season in 358 sprint car competition.  He started 8th and needed to find his way to the top four to transfer to the feature.  He surged into 5th by lap two but could never mount a challenge for a transfer spot.

Good fortune came Hartlaub’s way when, as the first alternate, he was added to the A-main lineup in 24th when one competitor scratched from the event.

Hartlaub did not waste the opportunity.  He methodically navigated his way through the field, breaking inside the top 20 on lap thirteen, then proceeding to blast his way to 12th over the final seven circuits.  He received the Hard Charger award for his efforts and salvaged what could have been a devastating points night in the process.

Seemed like anything that could’ve gone wrong did tonight.  We were a little tight in hot laps and tried to loosen up a little for the heat race, but then we had a bleeder issue in our heat race, so it was hard to tell if our adjustments helped the car.“, Hartlaub shared.  “The way all of that played out, we didn’t get to really work on the setup much for the B-main.”

We missed the A-main transfer by one spot but were able to get in as the first alternate, so we definitely had some luck there.  The track was heavier than usual tonight, so we were working to adjust to that for the feature.  We finally got the car to where it was happy, and I was able to go from 24th to 12th and get the Hard Charger.  I guess you could say we managed to turn lemons into lemonade tonight.

July 15:  Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

     [27 cars, Heat 8th (8), B-main 3rd (6), A-main 13th (21)]

Hartlaub’s Brewer Home Improvements / Moose Blocks / Smith Titanium / SRR Engines / Siegel Racing / T and N Solutions / Jason Emlet Iron Valley Real Estate / Bigham Appraisals / Pretzel Boy / HAAS Shocks / C.H. Folk & Son Feeds / Chop Designs / Herr Electric, Hartlaub Racing No.2 was among 27 cars entered at Williams Grove Speedway on July 15th.

The field was set to compete in three 8-lap heat races, lined up using the track’s handicap system.  The top six finishers would advance to the main event, with the top four participating in the redraw for their starting spot in the first six rows.

Hartlaub’s night got off to a tough start once again.  He was unable to move forward from his 8th starting spot and landed in the B-main for the second time in a week.

In the 8-lap consolation race, Hartlaub was able to secure a transfer spot.  He drove from his 6th starting spot to a 3rd place finish.

The 20-lap A-main again turned out to be the most positive portion of Hartlaub’s night.  Starting deep in the field in 21st, he steadily fought his way forward and brought home a 13th place finish.

Scheduled races at Lincoln Speedway on July 16th and Williams Grove Speedway on July 29th were both cancelled, the former due to tire shortages and the latter due to weather.

July 30:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     [31 cars, Heat 3rd (2), A-main 7th (12)]

For what felt like the first time this season, Hartlaub had a little luck in the pill draw.  With 31 cars on hand, he drew a pill that put him outside the front row for his heat race.  The top five finishers would advance to the A-main, but it was the top two spots that were valuable because a finish there put a driver in the handicap for a starting spot in the first four rows of the finale.

Unfortunately, Hartlaub lost the runner-up spot to Nash Ely on lap three and wound up 3rd when the checkered flag dropped on the 10-lap race.

“It was frustrating to start on the front row of the heat and not make a handicap spot.  That one’s on me.  I made a mistake.”, a disappointed Hartlaub shared.

All Hartlaub could do was take his lumps and make the most of 12th starting spot in the 20-lap A-main.  July had been a tough month for him and his team, but if there was one bright spot, they were always able to move forward in the feature and make the best of a rough night.

It wasn’t an earth-shattering run in the finale Saturday night, but Hartlaub did gain five spots to crack the top ten with a 7th place finish.

Hartlaub was ready to turn the page from July.  As the calendar turned to August this week, the team was back in their shop working hard to right the ship.

We’ve been struggling the last few races, so we went over everything on the car.  We found a couple small things and addressed them, plus we’ve talked a lot about getting better at reading the track.  That’s something I need to work on.  We’re looking forward to getting back to the track this weekend to put the car and ourselves to the test.“, Hartlaub said.

It’s been a challenging stretch, but it’s times like these that push you and make you better.  It has refocused all of us on details.

Up Next

Friday night, August 5th, Hartlaub will head to Williams Grove Speedway for a first-of-its-kind Match Race for the 358 sprint cars, offering a total purse of over $20,000.  Per Williams Grove’s website, the much anticipated Match Race, including matched sponsorship funds from the speedway, will go 25-laps in distance while paying $2,021 to win and $696 to start.

The following night Kody will be back at Lincoln Speedway for York County Racing Club night and another regular show for the 358 sprint cars.

Hartlaub Hits His Stride With Strong Month of June

410 Sprint Car Seat Time Pays Dividends

Mechanicsburg, PA – June 30, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  TK Slider Photography

Kody Hartlaub had a busy and productive month of June in the Brewer Home Improvements / Moose Blocks / Smith Titanium / SRR Engines / Siegel Racing / T and N Solutions / Jason Emlet Iron Valley Real Estate / Bigham Appraisals / Pretzel Boy / HAAS Shocks / C.H. Folk & Son Feeds / Chop Designs / Herr Electric, No.2.

Through the Spring portion of the 2022 season, although he had not cracked the win column yet, Hartlaub has had consistent speed and has been near the front on a regular basis.  If the month of June is any indication, the East Berlin (PA) wheelman is poised for an even better Summer.

June 4th:  Steve Smith Tribute / Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     [47 cars, Qualifying 21st Flight 2, Heat 10th (11), C-main 2nd (2), B-main 15th(18)]

As Kody Hartlaub said prior to the Steve Smith Tribute 410 sprint car race at Lincoln Speedway in Pennsylvania, he had zero expectations but was going to give it everything he had.

Hartlaub qualified 21st in Flight 2 of the 47-car field, then looked to convert his 11th place starting spot in the third heat race into at least a good starting spot in the B-main.  He nearly had that goal achieved.  After reaching 7th place in the 10-lap qualifying race, with nowhere to go, he was collected by an incident in front of him.  Hartlaub rejoined the field and managed a 10th place finish.

Relegated to the C-main, Hartlaub held onto his 2nd starting spot throughout to move himself and his team into the B-main starting lineup.  While transferring to the A-main was a long shot, the seat time and laps are invaluable.  Hartlaub was able to advance from 18th to 15th in the 12-lap consolation race.

That was fun.“, a grinning Hartlaub said.  “I learned a lot tonight.  As powerful as they are, these things (410 sprint cars) require finesse.  I can tell you; I was a better driver at the end of the night than I was at the start.  Hopefully I will get more 410 opportunities eventually.

The stats from Hartlaub’s 410 sprint car outing aren’t the story.  The growth as a sprint car driver, the knowledge obtained, is the story.  The benefits will pay dividends in his 358 sprint car seat as well.

I really wanted to support this event because I’m friends with Stevie (Smith) and his company (Smith Titanium) supports me.  Stevie’s dad was a legend in the sport, and it was an honor to get to race in his event tonight.  I want to thank MooseBlocks.com again for arranging this opportunity for me to compete with one of Shark Racing’s Newman’s Racing Engines under the hood.  My thanks to Shark Racing as well for that.“, Hartlaub shared.

June 10th:  Summer Series / Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

     [28 cars, Heat 7th (6), A-main 10th (20)]

Friday night, June 10th, brought Hartlaub back to Williams Grove for the first time since his 10th place finish there on May 20th.  The 28 cars on hand would compete in three, 8-lap heat races with the top six finishers from each advancing directly to the feature event.  Only the top four would make the redraw to earn a starting spot in the first six rows of the main event.

An unlucky draw put the East Berlin (PA) resident near the back of the first heat race of the evening.  From his 7th starting spot, Hartlaub was only able to climb to 6th, putting him in the A-main but with a starting spot deep in the field.

From the drop of the green on the 25-lap 358 sprint car Summer Series A-main, Hartlaub methodically worked his way forward from his 20th starting spot.  He reached 12th on lap fourteen and it looked like that might be the pinnacle.  A late surge propelled Hartlaub into 11th at the white flag and into to 10th on the final circuit.

We tried something a little different coming into tonight and I felt really good in hot laps, but when we got in the heat race we were in dirty air and the car didn’t feel as good as it had in clean air.  We made changes for the feature and obviously it was a lot better coming through traffic.  We’re pretty happy with getting out of here with our second consecutive top ten, especially the way the night started.”, Hartlaub explained.

June 11th:  Fallen Firefighters Night / Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     [29 cars, Heat 3rd (4), A-main 2nd (12)]

Four heats were set by pill draw for the 29 cars on hand at Lincoln Speedway for their Fallen Firefighters Night, which included live music, corn hole, race cars, driver meet and greets, food and drinks in the parking lot prior to the evening’s events.

The top five finishers from each heat would transfer directly to the A-main, while only the top two would be handicapped to determine the top eight starting spots for the 20-lap finale.

Kody Hartlaub lined up outside row number two for the fourth and final 10-lap heat race of the show.  He was within striking distance of earning a handicap spot, but Hartlaub was never quite able to mount a challenge to eventual runner-up, Kyle Keen.  He settled for a 3rd place finish.

From his 12th starting spot in the feature event, Hartlaub charged inside the top ten by lap three.  With a car under him that was enabling him to use any lane he needed, he steadily worked his way toward the front, reaching the top five by the halfway point of the race.

The grind continued as Hartlaub chipped away and reached the 2nd spot with five laps remaining.  He set his sights on leader Steve Owings and closed in lap by lap but ultimately ran out of time.  When the checkered flag fell, Hartlaub crossed the line in the runner-up spot, a mere 7-tenths of a second behind Owings.

What a weekend!  Two Hard Charger awards in two nights.  We struggled a little bit early on both nights, but we figured some things out and passed ten cars in both features.  That’s the thing we will take away from this.  We got better.  We found something that I think will help us going forward.“, Hartlaub commented.

I want to send a special ‘thank you’ to PA Dyno for sponsoring the Hard Charger award at Williams Grove and to everyone involved with The National Fallen Firefighters Guise-Little Memorial race and Hard Charger award at Lincoln: Ultra Shield Race Products, LLC, 717 Posse Gang, and Citizens Fire Company No 1.”

June 24th:  Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

     [30 cars, Heat 2nd (4), A-main 2nd (6)]

Two weeks after his second consecutive top-10 finish at Williams Grove Speedway, Kody Hartlaub returned to the famous Pennsylvania oval with the Brewer Home Improvements / Moose Blocks / Smith Titanium / SRR Engines / Siegel Racing / T and N Solutions / Jason Emlet Iron Valley Real Estate / Bigham Appraisals / Pretzel Boy / HAAS Shocks / C.H. Folk & Son Feeds / Chop Designs / Herr Electric, No.2.

The 358 sprint cars were on the card as part of opening night of PA Speedweek and 30 teams signed in for competition.  Three 8-lap heats were set up by pill draw with the top six finishers transferring to the feature event.  The top four from each would participate in a redraw for one of the top twelve starting spots in the 20-lap finale.

Kody Hartlaub started 4th in heat race number three and quickly went on offense.  He was able to work his way into the runner-up spot by the second circuit, then went to work trying to run down leader Kyle Keen.  Hartlaub came home 2nd, securing a spot in the redraw.

The redraw put Hartlaub outside the third row for the start of the A-main.  He held down the 4th spot through the first ten laps.  As the combination of the car and track came to him, he was able to close in and eventually wrestle 3rd away from the No.38D of Kyle Denmyer.

A few laps later Hartlaub was able to get by the No.99A of Devin Adams and lay claim to the 2nd spot.  Over the remaining eight laps, Kody pursued the No.21R of Tyler Brehm to no avail.  He rode home in the runner-up spot to record his best career finish at Williams Grove Speedway.

I’m feeling really good about our program right now.  We’ve been pretty consistent.  We found something last time we were here, and it helped us again tonight.  Hopefully we can keep building on that and keep this going.“, Hartlaub said.

Hartlaub’s ability to consistently perform at a high level is reflected in the 2022 Championship Points at his primary tracks.  He currently sits second in the Lincoln Speedway standings and fifth in Williams Grove Speedway’s rankings.

The next box for Kody Hartlaub Racing to check off is a trip to victory lane.  That likely isn’t far off considering the consistent performances they have turned in this year.  Eleven of Hartlaub’s twelve starts in his 358 sprint car have resulted in top-10 finishes.  Seven of those are top-5’s.

We just have to do our job and keep putting ourselves in position to win.  If we do that, eventually we’ll break through.“, Hartlaub commented.

Kody Hartlaub Matches Season Best 2nd Place 358 Sprint Finish at Lincoln; 410 Opportunity On Deck

Team Expands 358 Schedule for Balance of 2022

Kody Hartlaub has been the model of consistency thus far in 2022.  And he’s no one-trick pony.

He has competed at three different tracks and has recorded 8 top-10’s in 9 outings.  At this point in the season, the only box left to check is a victory.  That can’t be far away when a team is this steady.

May 28:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     (35 cars, Heat 1st, A-main 2nd)

Kody Hartlaub Racing is in the midst of a battle for the top spot in the season championship points at Lincoln Speedway.  Steve Owings held the top spot by 90 points over Hartlaub entering competition Saturday night.

Folk & Son Feeds / Chop Designs / Herr Electric, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.2 was among 35 entries for the Memorial Day Weekend event.

The sizable field was divided into five heats by pill draw.  The top four finishers from each race would transfer to the A-main, with the top two finishers being handicapped to start the 20-lap main event.  The starting field for the finale would be rounded out with the top four finishers from the B-main.

Hartlaub had the pole for heat number one, his first front row starting spot of the season.  He led the 10-lap qualifying race wire-to-wire over Steve Owings.

With the pair at the top of the point standings, Hartlaub and Owings assumed the 8th and 9th starting spots for the feature event.  Owings slipped by Hartlaub on the opening lap when the outside line didn’t take off as quickly as the inside line.  Hartlaub pursued the No.35 as the pair charged toward the front of the field.

Hartlaub reached 4th by lap three, then moved into the 2nd spot behind Owings on lap 7 and went to work to get to the point.  It wasn’t to be on this night, but Hartlaub brought home his second runner-up finish of the season to close out a very solid night.

I tried everything to get to Steve (Owings), especially on those two late restarts, but just couldn’t quite get to him.  He was better than me in (turns) one and two.  Maybe if I would’ve gotten to the front first, we could’ve held him off.“, Hartlaub said after the race.

With a win awarding 300 points and 2nd place 250, plus all teams being awarded 50 show-up points, Owings extended his point lead over Hartlaub despite the East Berlin, PA driver’s great run.

We are where we want to be.  We just don’t have a win yet.  The only night we missed the top ten was when we got involved in a wreck, but we still came back to finish 12th that night.  We’ve been racing more and venturing to new tracks.  That is helping us gain experience.  Experience is what enables teams to turn bad situations into positives.“, Hartlaub commented.

410 Sprint Opportunity

With a two-week break in their 358 sprint car schedule, Kody Hartlaub Racing will venture into the 410 sprint car world this Saturday night, June 4th, at Lincoln Speedway for the Steve Smith Tribute race, which will award the winner with $19,000 in honor of the Hall of Fame driver’s famous No.19.

Hartlaub has made a couple previous appearances in a 410 sprint car.  In 2021 he was at the wheel of another team’s car just to get a little seat time, but this will be his first venture in his own, more familiar equipment.

I owe a huge thanks to MooseBlocks.com for arranging this opportunity for me to compete with the 410’s in the Steve Smith Tribute race with one of Shark Racing’s Newman’s Racing Engines under the hood.  My thanks to Shark Racing as well for that.  I really wanted to support the race because Stevie and I are friends and Smith Titanium helps us out a lot.  It means a lot to me to be able to compete in that race.  We have zero expectations but we are sure going to try our hardest.“, an appreciative Hartlaub said.

Schedule Expansion, Plus A Look Back

It’s been a busy few weeks for Hartlaub.  Leading up to last Saturday night, he competed in events at Path Valley Speedway, Williams Grove Speedway, and Lincoln Speedway.  No matter where he goes this season, he has been consistently near the front.

That’s the sign of a strong team that is on the verge of breaking through.

Let’s take a quick look back and learn how Hartlaub Racing’s schedule has expanded for the balance of 2022.

May 14:  Path Valley Speedway / Spring Run, PA

     (16 cars, Heat 4th, A-main 4th)

To improve as a driver and a team, you need to race and you need to face different tracks and challenges.  With that in mind, Kody Hartlaub Racing ventured to Path Valley Speedway on May 14th.  They were among 16 teams to sign in for the 358 sprint car event on the high-banked quarter-mile Pennsylvania oval.

Lineups for two heats were set by random draw and all cars would qualify for the 30-lap feature event.  Hartlaub was able to gain one spot in his heat race, advancing from his 5th starting spot to finish 4th.

Hartlaub lined up 7th for the A-main but slipped to 8th on the opening lap.  A red flag on lap two set up a restart that Kody capitalized on, surging into 6th as the field went back to green.

As a result of some rain earlier in the evening, the track had a lot of grip and the field was ‘hammer down’, ripping off 28 non-stop, green flag laps after the restart.  Hartlaub was able to track down a couple more competitors before the check checkered flag fell.  As the race drew to a close, he was pushing for a spot on the podium by ran out of time and finished 4th.

We were a little tight in the heat race because we were expecting the track to be a little drier.  One spot better in the heat race would’ve meant one row closer the front for the feature.  That would’ve helped, but we learned a lot, had a good run and put it in the trailer in one piece.  That’s what we came here to do.“, Hartlaub said after the race.

May 20:  Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

     (27 cars, Heat 5th, A-main 10th)

Untimely Spring precipitation in Central Pennsylvania had erased the first three attempts by Williams Grove Speedway to get the 358 sprint car portion of their schedule started this season.  Kody Hartlaub Racing already had plans to compete at ‘The Grove’ on June 10th & July 23rd in two Summer Series events, so with only a half-dozen other 358 sprint car events remaining on the schedule, the team made the decision to add all the remaining shows at the Mechanicsburg, PA oval to their schedule and compete in the season points championship.

We have our second motor ready now, so with the delayed start to the 358 season here (at Williams Grove), we decided we were in a position to race all the shows here without risking our season at Lincoln.“, Hartlaub shared.

Three 8-lap heats were set up by pill draw for the 27 entries in the pits Friday night, May 20th.  The top six finishers in each transferred directly to the A-main.  Hartlaub started and finished 5th in heat number three, one spot out of the redraw.

Hartlaub started 15th in the 20-lap feature event and went to work finding the fastest way around the famous, paper-clip shaped oval.  He gradually worked his way forward and into the top ten as the race drew to a close.  Hartlaub’s progress ended there and he logged a 10th place finish.

I’ve been here three or four times before and was never able to get a complete night in.  We would start out good, then something would always happen.  We would either have mechanical issues or get rained out.  It was nice to get a full night in and really be able to get seat time.  The team and I learned a lot tonight.

May 21:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     (34 cars, Heat 3rd, A-main 6th)

On May 21st, Kody Hartlaub Racing returned to their home track, Lincoln Speedway, for the first of two Summer Series events this season.  The always popular Summer Series events for the 358 sprint cars draw competitive fields wherever they are held.

At ‘The Fabulous’ Lincoln Speedway as it’s known, 34 cars registered for competition and drew for their starting spot in one of the four heats.  The top five finishers in each 10-lap qualifier would transfer to the A-main, with the top three participating in a redraw for the top twelve starting spots.

Hartlaub started inside row two in heat number two.  His No.2 machine was a bit tight, but Hartlaub managed to hang on to finish 3rd and claim a spot in the redraw.

The redraw wasn’t quite as friendly to Hartlaub.  He would have his work cut out for him to get to the front after pulling the 10th starting spot.

Hartlaub battled throughout the 25-lap main event, finding a way forward as he has done all season.  On this night he managed a +4, finishing in the 6th position.

We finally got a good draw for our heat race and made the feature redraw, but our redraw wasn’t so good.  What do you do; that’s part of it.“, Hartlaub commented with a grin and a shrug.

“We can only worry about the things we can control, and that’s what we’re doing.  We’re running pretty well and I’m continuing to learn and make better decisions behind the wheel.”

Following his 2022 410 sprint debut this weekend, Hartlaub will return to 358 sprint car action with races on June 10th at Williams Grove Speedway and June 11th at Lincoln Speedway.

Hartlaub Leads Lincoln 358 Sprint Championship Points

Steady Performances and Resilience Propel Team to the Top

Abbottstown, PA – May 5, 2022

Kody Hartlaub has had a solid start to his 358 sprint car season, but it certainly hasn’t been dull or easy.

After five races at Lincoln Speedway, in only his second full season, Hartlaub finds himself atop the season point standings in a highly competitive division, but he and his team have had to overcome challenges to get to where they are.

April 9th:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

      (28 cars, Heat 3rd, A-main 9th)

Beginning with the April 9th show, with two prior events in the books, Lincoln Speedway moved into their handicapping format for the 358 sprint cars.  In this format, heat races are lined up by random draw.  The top two finishers from each heat race become part of the handicapped group.  Members of that group are lined up in the front rows of the feature based on their season points average, with the lowest average starting on the pole.

Four 10-lap heats were set for the 28 teams on hand.  Hartlaub rolled off 7th in the final heat race but surged into 4th by the end of the first circuit.  He methodically worked his way into 3rd on lap seven and then set his sights on reaching the valuable runner up spot.  Although he was pressuring 2nd place Nash Ely, Hartlaub ran out of time.

Hartlaub started mid-pack (12th) in the 20-lap A-main.  While he was able to move into 11th early in the race, the car just didn’t have much more in it on this night.  Thanks to a little attrition, Hartlaub gained a couple more spots and came home 9th in the Brewer Home Improvements / Moose Blocks / Smith Titanium / SRR Engines / Siegel Racing / T&N Solutions / Jason Emlet Iron Valley Real Estate / Bingham Appraisals / Pretzel Boy / HAAS Shocks / C.H. Folk & Son Feeds / Chop Designs / Herr Electric, Hartlaub Racing No.2.

April 16th:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

      (31 cars, Heat 4th, A-main 4th)

Mid-April brought 31 cars to Lincoln Speedway.  Once again four 10-lap heats were lined up by the pill draw and once again Kody Hartlaub found himself in the final heat race of the day.  He lined up 5th and quickly made a move into 3rd when the race went green.

As Hartlaub worked to find his way into a coveted top-2 handicap spot prior to the race’s midpoint, he ripped a tear-off from his helmet.  Unfortunately the right mounting post was loose and all the tear-offs released in a single pull, leaving him with no way to get clear visibility.  Instead of moving forward, Hartlaub found himself slipping backwards.  He hung on to finish 4th.

Wiping the visor with my gloves only made visibility worse.  I could see well enough to survive and not endanger myself or anyone else, but I couldn’t run hard and be aggressive.“, Hartlaub explained.

The snafu during qualifying put Hartlaub deep in the field for the 20-lap A-main.  These kinds of nights usually go one of two ways.  In some cases, a driver will finish poorly and write the night off to tough luck.  In other cases, a driver uses the opportunity to show his team and the fans they should never count him out.  The latter seems to fit Hartlaub.

Starting 16th, he was on a mission from the drop of the green.  The East Berlin, PA resident charged through the field, reaching the top-10 by lap 5 and the top-5 by lap 13.  By the time the checkers waived, Hartlaub had reached 4th.

There were plenty of smiles in the Hartlaub pits following the effort.  Not only was it an impressive run that salvaged what could have been a disappointing night thanks to a fluke helmet issue, Kody had taken over the top spot in the season point standings.

April 30th:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

      (29 cars, Heat 2nd, A-main 12th)

The final April event for the 358 sprint cars at Lincoln Speedway brought yet another deep field, this time 29 cars.  As had become the norm this season the night would consist of four 10-lap heats with the top 2 entering the handicap.

The one thing Kody Hartlaub can’t seem to get to go his way so far this year is his pill draw.  Once again, he found himself in the back half of the starting lineup for his heat race.  He was up to the challenge though, working his way up from his 6th starting spot and into 2nd.

With his best A-main starting spot secured since opening night back in March, Hartlaub was eyeing his first podium finish since then as well.  Unfortunately on lap two he became a victim collected by an incident in front of him.

Hartlaub’s machine suffered damage to the nerf bar, wing and headers.  Amazingly his team, with help from competitors, was able to bolt on new headers and make repairs on the other damage in time to allow Hartlaub to rejoin the rear of the field for the restart.  He was able to climb nine spots in the remaining laps, salvaging a 12th place finish.

I think we were definitely a top-5 car tonight, probably even a podium car, if we hadn’t gotten caught up in that early crash.  That’s racing.  It happens.  I have to thank my team and the others who pitched in to get us fixed up and back out there.  Really proud of my team.“, Hartlaub commented.  “We were able to get back out there, gain some spots and save our night from being a total loss.  That could be big when we get down to the end of the season (in points).”

Eleven scheduled races remain for the 358 sprints at Lincoln Speedway in 2022.  The points championship is likely to be a great battle to the end among numerous teams.

We’ve been building the depth of our program.  That’s another important part of competing for points.  First it was just trying to have two of each critical part.  Now we are in the process of preparing a second car and motor so we’re not at risk of missing any races if we run into issues. “, Hartlaub shared.

Victory has eluded Hartlaub and his team thus far in 2022, but their steady performances and ability to recover from setbacks, would indicate that’s a goal they will reach.

Up Next

Hartlaub tentatively has Path Valley Speedway Park (PA) on his schedule for May 14th. Stay tuned to Kody Hartlaub Racing or Addicted2Dirt PR on social media for updates closer to race day.

The next firm plan for the team is the 358 Summer series event on May 21st at Lincoln Speedway (PA), which will also be Kid’s Night featuring Big Wheel races.

Kody Hartlaub Showing He Will Be a Force at Lincoln

Preparation Key to Becoming a Contender

Abbottstown, PA – April 6, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Michael Zortman

Two races may not be enough to draw a conclusion, but if the first two 358 sprint car races of the 2022 season at Lincoln Speedway are any indication, Kody Hartlaub is going to be a factor there all year long.

Much like football when a team’s plus/minus turnover ratio is a great indicator of how good a team is, Hartlaub’s plus/minus in four total events (two heats and two features), is indicative of how good he has been.  He has advanced from his starting spot in all four events, netting +8 positions.

March 19th:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

      (30 cars, Heat 2nd, A-main 2nd)

The season debut for the 358 sprint cars at Lincoln Speedway drew 30 teams out of their winter hibernation, anxious to get back to racing.  A random pill draw set the lineups for four 10-lap heat races.  The top five finishers from each transferred directly to the A-main, but only the top two would earn a spot in the redraw for a spot in the first four rows of the night’s finale.

Hartlaub wasted no time shaking the offseason rust, charging from 5th to 2nd by the time three laps were in the books.  He was able to maintain his position and claim a redraw spot in his Brewer Home Improvements / Moose Blocks / Smith Titanium / SRR Engines / Siegel Racing / T and N Solutions / Jason Emlet Iron Valley Real Estate / Bingham Appraisals / Pretzel Boy / HAAS Shocks / C.H. Folk & Son Feeds / Chop Designs / Herr Electric, Hartlaub Racing No.2.

The redraw was friendly to Hartlaub, providing him with the 3rd starting spot for the 20-lap main event.  Kody held a firm grasp on the runner-up spot throughout the event.  He had leader Matt Findley in his sights but couldn’t quite challenge him, flashing under the checkered flag less than one second behind Findley’s No.28.

I felt like we were good enough to win.  The track slicked off more than we expected.  We tightened up a little, but maybe not enough.  I was catching Matt (Findley) in lapped traffic, but after the caution he had clear track in front of him”, Hartlaub said.

He continued. “Over the offseason, I told myself not to be content this year.  Last year I would settle in and not push hard enough sometimes.  This year I want to be more aggressive and make sure I get everything out of the car that it has to give, but in our first race of the year I thought I had to be smart.  You don’t want to tear your stuff up on the first night“, Hartlaub said, describing the mental tug of war drivers go through when they don’t have unlimited resources.

Kody feels he and his team are much better prepared in 2022.  Even little things like being better stocked on parts at the track and having a white board in the trailer so they can make notes to prevent forgetting important information.  Those little things paid off immediately when the team had to replace the MSD ignition box after hot laps.

April 2nd:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

      (30 cars, Heat 2nd, A-main 5th)

The 358 sprint cars returned to Lincoln Speedway on April 2nd, once again 30-strong in the pits and once again employing the same qualifying format.

Hartlaub lined up 4th for his heat race and bolted into 2nd early in the race, claiming a redraw spot for the second consecutive outing.  The redraw was a little less friendly on this night though, with the East Berlin resident pulling the seven pill, placing him inside row four for the 20-lap main event.

After initially settling into 7th, Hartlaub moved into 6th on lap six but at the halfway point, slipped back into 7th.  That didn’t last long though, as Hartlaub battled his way past two cars, including last week’s winner Matt Findley, to take over the 5th position.  Kody held that position for the final eight circuits, securing his second top-5 in as many outings.

It’s been really satisfying to see everything we worked so hard on over the offseason paying off like it has.  I’ve challenged myself to minimize mistakes behind the wheel and I feel like I’ve accomplished that so far.  We’re really happy with two top-5’s but we won’t start looking ahead.  We will just keep building on this week by week and do our best each time out.  If we do that, the stats will take care of themselves”, Hartlaub commented.

Hartlaub currently sits in a tie with Cameron Smith for 2nd in Lincoln Speedway’s season championship point standings.  The pair trail only Matt Findley in what is expected to be an interesting battle all the way to the final points race on October 15th.

Kody Hartlaub Racing will be at Lincoln Speedway three more times during the month of April, with 358 sprint events scheduled on the 9th, 16th and 30th.

Hartlaub Rolls Into New Season with Momentum

Looking to Improve on Solid 2021 Results

East Berlin, PA – March 4, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

 )

Kody Hartlaub has been racing in Central PA for over 15 years, but you might not know his name.

Yet.

Kody had a lot of success in his early years in go-karts, but that was followed by a period where he was in and out of the sport.  There was some 600 racing and the beginnings of his 358 sprint car career, but various circumstances kept being in the seat a limited hobby.  Finally, in 2018 he logged nearly a full season in the 358’s, but again that was followed by sitting out 2019 and a sparse 2020 schedule.

Finally, in 2021, everything fell into place for the Littlestown, PA native to run a full season.  Hartlaub was a regular at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA in their 358 sprint car division.  He competed in a few other area events as well.

Running on a consistent basis provided more opportunity to learn behind the wheel and apply the knowledge the very next week.  It appeared to be the best medicine.  Hartlaub captured his first 358 sprint car win, five other top-5 runs and finished 4th in the season point standings.

The stats back up the statement that he has momentum entering 2022.  He garnered 35% of his season points total in the final four races of 2021 at Lincoln Speedway.  Pretty stout, huh?

Jim Siegel told me one day, when you have success, act like you’ve been there.  That always stuck with me.  It says a lot about a person’s character.  Although, I must admit, last summer when I got my first win at Lincoln, I wasn’t able to manage that!“, Hartlaub laughed, recalling the raw emotion that came with that achievement.

An important change that really helped the team tremendously was the arrival of Brewer Home Improvements as part of the team in mid-2021.  Longtime family friend and race fan, Pat Brewer, got involved and became a key part of the team.  Not only did his business become a partner, but Pat was also at the shop and the track helping the team regularly.

Another key partner, Moose Blocks, Inc., has been supporting Kody for over five years.  They also happen to be Hartlaub’s employer.  He gets to spend his days making aluminum sprint car parts, which pretty much makes racing a daily part of his life.

Seigel Racing is another major part of the equation for Hartlaub’s program.  In addition to providing resources, help and information, former Central Pennsylvania sprint car racer Steve Seigel has become a mentor to Kody.  His extensive experience and advice have been invaluable.  He has helped shorten the learning curve for Hartlaub in the seat.

When he’s not racing himself, Kody can usually be found helping the current Siegel Racing wheelman, Jim Siegel, with his 410 sprint car.  It’s a win-win situation.  In return for all they do for him, Hartlaub can help the Siegel team, plus acquire even more knowledge in the process.

Along with his partners and Steve’s mentoring, and in addition to his own sweat-equity, Kody relies heavily on family to make it all happen for him.

My dad is there with me in the pits and the shop every step of the way, my wife not only handles the shirt sales but fully supports me in every way, and my mom is the glue holding it all together, doing whatever she can to make sure we have what we need and making sure we don’t go hungry!  I can’t thank them all enough“, Hartlaub shared.

Plans for 2022 will once again have the Brewer Home Improvements / Moose Blocks, Inc. / Smith Titanium / SRR Engines / Siegel Racing / Jason Emlet, Iron Valley Real Estate / Bingham Appraisals / Pretzel Boy / HAAS Shocks / C.H. Folk & Son Feeds / Chop Designs / Herr Electric, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.2 at Lincoln Speedway for all 358 sprint car shows.  In addition, the team will venture to the legendary Williams Grove Speedway for a couple 358 Summer Series events, as well as one trip each to Path Valley Speedway in Spring Run, PA and BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, PA.

I appreciate all my partners and supporters more than I can express.  Everyone who helps me out makes this possible.  It sounds cliche but it’s 100% true“, Hartlaub commented.

I can’t wait to get out there and apply everything I learned last season.  I want to use that experience to make better decisions behind the wheel and improve on our 2021 results.  Our goal is to be competitive every week and to get two wins.  Anything more will be ‘gravy’ as they say.  I’m ready to do everything necessary to make sure we’re prepared, and I execute on the track“, a notably energized Hartlaub commented.

That energy is likely to help the East Berlin, PA resident continue his momentum on the track.  By the time 2022 concludes, a lot more folks will know his name.

Up Next

Kody won’t have to wait much longer to get out there. His 2022 campaign will kick off Saturday, March 19th at Lincoln Speedway.  His familiar No.2 will have a bit of a new look this season, but fans will have to wait a bit longer to catch a glimpse of it!

SPECIAL THANKS

As always, thank you to all our sponsors and partners, including our silent partners who do everything they can to help but ask for nothing in return!  Below are the businesses…the people…the families…that make what these teams do possible. Most importantly, tell them WHY you patronized them and thank them for being involved in racing!
