Sandvig Motorsports is set to embark on the 2024 racing season with JJ Hickle behind the wheel of their 410 Sprint Car this weekend at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

If Mother Nature plays nicely, Hickle will take part in a test and tune session on Friday at ‘The Sprint Car Capital of the World’, before kicking off the season on Saturday as part of their 71st Annual Pella Motors/Kraig Ford Season Opener.

“I went and put my seat in the car and got my belts fitted with Mike’s car and there’s nothing really left but to go and do it,” said Hickle. “It seems like I’ve just been watching it rain and be cold here lately, so hopefully we can get 2024 started together and I couldn’t be any more excited!”

While this will be the first scheduled event of the season for the Sandvig No. 7, Hickle already has several races under his belt as he’s competed in 410 Sprint Car competition for Cook Motorsports and 360 Sprint Car competition for Winged Down Racing.

While he’s grateful for the opportunity to stay sharp and compete for victories, he’s anxiously looking forward to the opportunity to pilot the Sandvig Motorsports Sprint Car and start gelling as a team. Tentatively, the team plans to race in close to 50 events this season at various tracks with different series.

“It’s great to go do these one-off deals and get opportunities to drive fast race cars, but I’m really looking for a home,” said Hickle. “I think we can do that with Mike’s team and I’m excited to just get going, learn, and be in a situation where we can be consistent and grow together throughout the year.”

Along with Hickle being new to the program, several sponsors have committed in support of Sandvig Motorsports 2024 racing season. Renown Earth Works, HPP Hertz Precision Parts, GRP Motorsports, Heartland Kitchen Solutions, Rider Racing Engines, Kaiser Wheels, DeBerg Flooring, Eszlinger Electric LLC, A+ Power Washing and Boji Custom Metal Works, and Powder Coating will all be on the car. Hickle and Sandvig are grateful for all the support in chasing their season goals.

“Everybody knows Sprint Car racing isn’t a cheap sport and I’m appreciative of everyone who has come on board to make this deal happen,” Hickle said. “Mike has a bunch of supporters who have been with him for a while and I’m just looking forward to putting my best foot forward and representing them well on and off the track.”

With a team that has shown the ability to win over the years, with an eye toward the future, Hickle believes the pairing can lead to success. While he understands it might take time to get going, he believes he’s in a situation to succeed and compete for wins out of the gate.

“As a driver, all you can do is go out and make the best laps you can and see what happens,” said Hickle. “This deal takes work and I think both myself and Mike know if we work together toward the same goals, we can be fast and compete for wins. It might be a bit much to say we’re going to go out and win the first night out, but I think end of the night on Saturday we can have a good base of where we stand and hopefully, we’re running up front.”

Sandvig Motorsports Announces JJ Hickle as Driver for the No. 7 410 Sprint Car in the 2024 Racing Season

Sandvig Motorsports is thrilled to announce that JJ Hickle will be taking the wheel of the No. 7 410 Sprint Car for the upcoming 2024 racing season. With a proven track record and a passion for speed, Hickle brings a wealth of experience and talent to the team, and Sandvig Motorsports is excited to see what they can achieve together on the track.

Hickle spent the majority of his 2023 racing season competing with the All Star Circuit of Champions as a rookie contender on the tour before dropping off the tour just past the midway point of the year. As he looks to put that experience to use in 2024, Hickle expressed his enthusiasm about joining Sandvig Motorsports.

“I’m honored to be a part of the Sandvig Motorsports team and excited to drive the No. 7 410 Sprint Car. I believe we have the potential for a successful season, and I’m looking forward to the challenges and victories that lie ahead.”

In addition to the driver announcement, Sandvig Motorsports is actively seeking sponsorships for the 2024 racing season to enhance their program and maximize their performance on the track. The team welcomes potential sponsors to join them on this thrilling journey and invites interested parties to reach out for partnership opportunities.

Last year saw Brooke Tatnell, Lynton Jeffrey, and Ian Madsen pilot the Sandvig Motorsports car at various times, mainly throughout the Midwest. While Sandvig is thankful for all the drivers’ efforts last season, he is looking forward to continuing to build on his program with a different level of consistency in 2024 and believes Hickle is the guy to get them there.

“We are proud to have JJ Hickle on board as our driver for the No. 7 410 Sprint Car. With his skill and dedication, coupled with the support of our fans and sponsors, we are confident that we can make a significant impact in the upcoming season.”

Sandvig Motorsports is currently working on finalizing the racing schedule for the 2024 season. An official schedule announcement is expected in the coming months as the team continues to prepare for an exciting and competitive year ahead. The goal is to compete at various events with different sanctions throughout the Mid-West, with some traveling possible dependent on sponsorship.

For sponsorship inquiries or further information, please contact Mike Sandvig at [email protected] or 712-260-8823.

Brooke Tatnell to Join Sandvig Motorsports as Driver for 2023 Racing Season

Spencer, IA – December 25, 2022

by Justin Snyder, Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Morgan Hancock

Mike Sandvig Motorsports is proud to announce that Brooke Tatnell has been named the new driver of the No. 7 410 Sprint Car for the 2023 racing season.

After Justin Henderson departed the ride after a successful four year partnership, Sandvig found himself in the unusual spot of looking for a driver this offseason. With a team that’s been as competitive in the Midwest as any team over the last four seasons, Sandvig had no shortage of interest and phone calls over the winter.

However, one name stuck out and that was the Sans Souci, NSW, Australian native of Tatnell. With more than 250 career combined 410 and 360 Sprint Car victories over a lengthy career and a familiarity with the Midwestern tracks Sandvig’s car regularly competes at, it was an easy choice.

Throw in the fact that Tatnell has competed full-time on the World of Outlaws tour, with a career-best sixth-place finish in the standings in 2006 and 15 victories with the series, and that he’s captured a win during the prestigious Knoxville Nationals in 2006 during their World Challenge, it was clear Tatnell would provide Sandvig with the type of driver he was looking for to be able to challenge for wins on the grandest of stages.

Brooke has been very successful over the years and his experience gives us the best shot to compete,” said Mike Sandvig, car owner. “He’s a guy who is good on equipment and will give you a chance no matter who we’re competing against and that’s really exciting to know.”

Ironically enough it was Tatnell who topped Henderson and Sandvig by a mere three points last season to deny them a second consecutive Huset’s Speedway track championship on the final night of the season.

It was a big night for Tatnell and his car owners and proved that the veteran driver could still get it done behind the wheel when the stakes were high. It also proved to be a moment that stuck in his mind when Sandvig was considering drivers for this season.

Brooke may be a veteran but make no mistake about it he is eager to win and is as hungry as ever,” said Sandvig. “Just in watching how he competes and in talking to him, I feel like when it comes down to it, he gives us the best shot to win with what we are trying to accomplish this season.”

The current plan is to continue to focus mainly on the Midwestern scene with local events, when possible, but Sandvig isn’t just looking to capture trophies locally with Tatnell. The team also plans to compete semi-regularly with the World of Outlaws in regional shows along with the possibility of several High Limit Series events.

Tatnell will continue his normal driving duties behind the wheel of the DeWall No. 16 team running a similar schedule as last season as well.

Knowing he has a driver capable of not only making shows and competing, but one with experience at tracks all over the country that will allow for them to challenge for wins in large-paying shows, has Sandvig most excited about the partnership in 2023.

I’m really excited for 2023 to start and I can’t wait to get going with Brooke behind the wheel,” said Sandvig. “We’ve had a lot of great sponsors over the years who have supported us and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to showcase them at the track this season!

A full schedule, list of sponsors and more information will be released closer to the season. For up-to-date information and news, stay tuned on Facebook at Facebook.com/SandvigMotorsports7 and Addicted2DirtPR.com.

Henderson and Sandvig Riding Momentum Heading into the Cappy and Knoxville Nationals

Knoxville, IA – August 5, 2022

by Justin Snyder, Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Huset’s Speedway

Justin Henderson continued to build momentum behind the wheel of the Mike Sandvig Motorsports No. 7 410 Sprint Car as he picked up a 12th place finish with the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday and an eighth-place result at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday in regional competition.

With the upcoming Knoxville Nationals weekend on the horizon, the solid effort against stout competition has Henderson feeling confident about the direction of their program and their chances of being in the running come next week.

“We were fast out the gate one night and not so fast out the gate on another night, so it’s really hard to know what was right or wrong about the car,” said Henderson. “But we’ve definitely turned a corner since bringing back our old Maxim, so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do here the next few weeks.”

Henderson began the evening by timing in 32nd quickest out of 55 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 16.537 seconds during qualifying. He then advanced one position in a heat race to finish fifth and narrowly missed qualifying for the A-main by one position. As a result, he had to run the B-main, where he passed three cars to finish second and locked himself into the feature event.

“We didn’t qualify really well and had to work ourselves out of a hole,” said Henderson. “Anytime you must start in the back of a heat race you are really at a disadvantage. Throw in the number of cars there and the quality of those cars and you’ve got your hands full.”

Lining up from the 22nd starting position, Henderson knew he had an uphill battle ahead of him. However, he remained persistent and steadily worked his way forward to take the checkered flag in the 12th position. The 10 spots gained were good enough to earn the night’s hard charger award and he was also given the persistence award as well for the effort.

“The car was really racy in the feature, and we were kind of committed to the bottom and the car felt really good,” he said. “It’s hard to pass cars in this sport with the way these cars are, so to gain that much ground with the competition we had makes you feel good”

The team headed to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday and Henderson unloaded fast off the trailer as he qualified first among 24 cars in attendance to earn the night’s fast time award. He followed that up by advancing two positions in a heat race to finish second and earned the seventh starting position for the A-main following a re-draw.

With the leaders setting a quick pace, Henderson struggled during the A-main to make up any ground. He dropped backwards one position to finish in eighth, which was good enough for his 15th top ten finish of the season.

“I felt like the first couple laps in the feature were not up to par and that set the tone for us,” he said. “After that we were just kind of making laps and trying to stay clean. It wasn’t a bad night by any means, but also nothing special.”

Next up for the duo will be a trip to Knoxville Raceway on Sunday for the 11th Annual Capitani Classic, paying $9000 to win. This will be the final tune-up event for the duo as they’re set to compete next week in the famed Knoxville Nationals beginning Wednesday night.

“I think the Cappy is a race that we can really get some momentum going and I think it’ll be a good sign of how our Nationals will be,” said Henderson. “The format fits us well and I obviously know my way around Knoxville. We’re looking to kind of make a statement and now is as good of a time as ever to get rolling and I’m excited.”

Henderson and Sandvig Motorsports Experience Heartbreak at Knoxville Raceway

Knoxville, IA – July 15, 2022

by Justin Snyder, Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Spot-Photos.com

Justin Henderson scored a disappointing 23rd-place finish at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night after a mechanical issue ended what appeared to be  a promising night behind the wheel of the Mike Sandvig Motorsports No 7 410 Sprint Car.

“Luckily I saved the car from getting into the wall, but overall, a tough night for our team,” said Henderson. “Sometimes I feel like we’d have no luck at all if not for bad luck. So overall it’s not much to write about.”

Henderson began the evening by timing in 5th quickest out of 32 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 15.837 seconds during qualifying. He then advanced one position in a heat race to finish fourth and secured a spot in the night’s feature event.

“Qualifying well makes  everything easier and it seems we turned the corner there,” said Henderson. “We were not great in the heat race and just managed to hold on to get her in the show, so we’re still working on that part of things.”

Following a fortunate re-draw, Henderson lined up from the 5th starting position for the feature. However, his night practically ended before it ever started when he came to a stop against the outside guardrail on lap two with a broken tie-rod bolt. As a result, he was  credited with finishing in the 23rd position.

“We didn’t really start too well, so there’s not much we can take from that experience,” he said. “I’d have liked to maybe learn a few things from the changes we made, but that’s the way things go sometimes.”

While the finish was frustrating, Henderson was able to find encouragement in the early speed the car had on track.

“We turned the corner a little bit and we’re kind of trial and error until we get it right,” he said. “I feel like we’re getting back on track as a team, and we had some speed. So, we’ll just take the positives we can from it and just keep moving forward.”

Next up for the duo will be another Saturday of racing at Knoxville Raceway, followed by a return to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday.

Henderson currently sits on top of the point standings at Huset’s, where he holds a 12-point advantage in search of his second consecutive track championship at the Brandon, S.D Speedway.

“We’re leading the points at Huset’s and It’s always a good time when you enter as the points leader, ” said Henderson. “The crazy thing is that I don’t know that we have really scratched the surface in how good we are as a team this season yet.

“We’re really grinding away at this deal and we’re working hard to be ready come Nationals time. I feel like the best is yet to come for this team and I’m looking forward to clicking off a few wins hopefully in the near future.”

Henderson and Sandvig Searching for Speed and Consistency at Knoxville Raceway

Knoxville, IA – July 7, 2022

by Justin Snyder, Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Knoxville Raceway

Justin Henderson wheeled the Mike Sandvig Motorsports No. 7 410 Sprint Car to a 12th-place finish Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway.

After multiple weekends filled with up and down results for the duo behind the wheel of a new fresh Maxim Chassis, the consistent night was a nice change of pace and has the team feeling positive going forward.

“We pulled out this Maxim when the Outlaws came to Huset’s and it just seems we have been chasing the car and speed,” said Henderson. “We might be turning the corner with things here and I’m hopeful we’re on the right track.”

Henderson began the evening by timing in 18th quickest in qualifying with a fastest lap of 16.691 seconds. He then advanced one position in a heat race to pick up the victory and secure a spot in the night’s $6,000-to-win feature event.

“The car was really good in the heat race and it felt as comfortable as it has since we pulled it out,” he said. “It’s nice to win a heat race, but we need to time better to really benefit from it.”

Lining up from the 13th starting position for the feature, Henderson settled just inside of the top 15 for the first half of the event. Late in the A-main he was able to move forward into the 12th position, but with the feature going non-stop and the field getting spread out, he wasn’t able to gain any more ground and settled for 12th at the checkered flag.

The top 15 finish was the duo’s 15th of the season in 23 starts. More importantly, it was a welcome sight following what has been a grind to find the perfect mixture of comfort and speed since rolling out a brand new Maxim Chassis a few weeks back.

“Mike and the guys are working really hard to get this thing rolling good and I know we’ve got a car and team capable of winning and running up front,” he said. “I’ve been around this sport for a while and I know as much as anyone that sometimes it just takes time. It could be the smallest thing keeping us from getting everything out of the car that we can and I’m confident in Maxim’s product and our team that we’ll get there very soon.”

Next up for the duo will be another Saturday of racing at Knoxville Raceway this weekend.

With some of the bigger  events on the schedule approaching quickly, Henderson is hopeful the team can turn a corner and get back to their consistency and winning ways.

“We’d like to maybe be doing some racing at other tracks with the Outlaws, but Knoxville holds the most importance to us right now as we are focused on the Knoxville Nationals coming up soon,” said Henderson. “We got our good car back that we crashed a few weeks back and we’re close to getting this new one dialed in.

“In racing you can’t live off one car and one package, so while we know the old Maxim is good and fast, we’ve got to get this one right if we want to be a complete and successful program. So, I’m looking forward to getting back to Knoxville and getting ourselves ready to take a shot at a crown jewel in the Nationals later this season.”

Henderson Looking Toward World of Outlaws Visit to Knoxville Following a Frustrating Weekend

Knoxville, IA – June 9, 2022

by Justin Snyder, Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Spot-Photos.com

Justin Henderson scored a weekend best eighth-place finish as part of a doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway last Saturday night. The top ten finish was a welcomed sight after a lap one wreck resulted in a 24th place finish during the first feature event of the night.

Plans to compete during the weekend at Huset’s Speedway fell through after a rainstorm hit the Speedway on Sunday and postponed the event.

“I really thought we had a car capable of winning in the first one and we probably would have been on the podium in feature two if not for that wreck,” said Henderson. “We didn’t get to do near as much racing as we’d hoped this weekend, but to be able to bring home a top ten in a banged up car lessons the sting a little bit.”

Henderson kicked off the night at Knoxville by timing in ninth quickest out of 35 cars in attendance in time trials with a fastest lap of 15.280 seconds. He then advanced two positions in a heat race to finish in second and earned a spot in the feature re-draw as a result.

After a lengthy rain delay at the track, Henderson lined up from the outside second row for the A-main and was feeling confident about his chances of ending up in victory lane. However, any thoughts of scoring his first win of the 2022 racing season came to a screeching halt in turn’s three and four on the opening circuit.

While running in the third position, the second place driver got turned around in front of him and left him with nowhere to go. He made heavy contact with the spinning car and ended up getting into the outside guardrail as a result. The team surveyed the damage and opted to get the car ready for the make-up feature instead of heading back out with a damaged racecar. As a result, he was credited with finishing 24th.

“When he started spinning, I wanted to get around him quickly to be able to keep going and I thought he was actually going to save it,” he said. “I just barely caught him and when it backed into the fence the car was in pretty rough shape. Right away our main focus was to be ready for the second feature and not lose too many points sitting in the trailer.”

The team made repairs to the car and Henderson was able to line up for the make-up feature event from the seventh position. As a result of the damage sustained in the first feature event, Henderson struggled with the handling of the car and he managed to bring the car home in one piece with an eighth-place finish. The top ten finish was the ninth of the season for Henderson aboard the Sandvig Motorsports No. 7.

“We got the car in good enough shape to get back on track, but it was a monster to handle,” said Henderson. “I fell back to 14th actually, but I tried something really unorthodox to make the car feel half decent and we actually managed to get going and ended up eighth.”

Next up for Henderson and Sandvig will be a pair of $10,000-to-win World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car starts on Friday and Saturday at Knoxville before they turn their attention to defending their points lead on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway.

With the added money on the line and the uptick in competition with the Outlaws in town, Henderson is hoping the speed they have had all season to start the night at Knoxville will pay off when it counts.

“We’re excited to compete with the Outlaws and we’ll be doing it with a new car after last weekend’s wreck,” said Henderson. “I hate to lose a car that we have had so much success in, but this one is good too and we’re ready to let her rip. We’ve been fast all season to start the night at Knoxville and the way the Outlaw format works you’ve got to be fast right off the trailer and I’m hopeful we can break through with a win or a podium and forget about last weekend.”

Henderson Stays Consistent in 2022 With a Pair of Top Fives at Knoxville and Huset’s

Brandon, SD – May 26, 2022

by Justin Snyder, Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Spot-Photos.com

Justin Henderson picked up a pair of top five finishes behind the wheel of the Mike Sandvig Motorsports No. 7 410 Sprint Car last weekend. Henderson finished fourth at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa on Saturday and fifth at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday.

Henderson also competed in two nights of racing behind the wheel of his family owned MAX Motorsports No. 83 360 Sprint Car where he finished seventh on Friday at Jackson Motorplex and 23rd at Knoxville as part of a Saturday night doubleheader.

“It wasn’t a bad weekend by any means and it shows we are consistent,” said Henderson. “In terms of our region of sprint car racing, we are a top car and we continue to knock off top fives on a regular basis.”

Henderson kicked off the weekend on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway where he qualified second quickest among 31 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 15.265 seconds. He then advanced three positions in a heat race to finish third and locked himself directly into the night’s A-main event.

“We’ve got a really good car to start the night at Knoxville and that’s something to be happy about,” he said. “I know I’m always saying it, but the beginning of the night can make or break you and luckily it’s been good to us at Knoxville.”

Starting from the inside-second row of the A-main event, Henderson fell back to fourth on the opening lap. Following a yellow flag with 16 laps remaining, Henderson inherited the third position and he remained in the spot for the next 10 laps. With five laps to go, Henderson got bottled up behind a lap car while engaged in a three-wide battle for the runner-up position. The bobble caused him to fall to fourth, where he’d take the checkered flag at the conclusion of the event.

“If not for the lapped car there when we caught second it was going to be a wild three-wide battle in the turn,” said Henderson.” It was a lot of fun out there and anytime you can go toe to toe with Brian Brown and the McCarl’s at Knoxville you know you have a good car. We just need to put 20 laps together and we’ll be talking about wins instead of top fives.”

The team next headed to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday, where Henderson qualified fifth quickest out of 25 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 11.137 seconds before advancing one position in a heat race to finish second. He earned a spot in the re-draw as a result and drew the No. 7 pill to claim an inside-fourth row starting spot for the feature.

In a race that went non-stop for 25 laps, Henderson was able to rally forward two positions to score a fifth-place finish. The top five was the team’s fifth in eight starts this season.

“It was really hard to pass as the track developed a lip early and was fast up top,” he said, “The bottom was ok early, but once it went away, we pretty much just had to ride around and hope for something to happen.”

Next up for Henderson and Sandvig will be a Memorial Day weekend tripleheader. They’ll start out at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, before joining the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday and Monday for two nights. Henderson sits third in the track point standings at Knoxville and first at Huset’s entering the weekend.

“I think we are in for a really good weekend and we get an extra show to make some good money,” said Henderson. “For me this sport is all about momentum and I think it’s time we start a nice little streak and pick up some wins.”

While the Memorial Day weekend brings about an extra night of racing and the opportunity to make some good money, Henderson is also grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the men and women who have and are serving our country.

“I’m really grateful for those who have given their lives to allow us to live freely as American citizens and there’s never enough chances to say thank you to them,” said Henderson.” Not only those who we have lost, but those still serving today. To serve and fight like that takes a different breed of person. I wouldn’t be talking about racing on the weekends without those men and women and hopefully we can grab a win in their honor.”

Henderson Overcomes Mechanical Failure at Knoxville to Earn Podium Finish at Huset’s

Brandon, SD – May 18, 2022

by Justin Snyder, Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Spot-Photos.com

Justin Henderson highlighted a two-race weekend behind the wheel of the Mike Sandvig Motorsports No. 7 410 Sprint Car with a third-place finish on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway. He also scored a 22nd-place finish on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway following late-race mechanical issues that spoiled what appeared to be a promising night.

“We’ve got a ton of speed at Knoxville, and it shows every time we are there, but we can’t have nights like Saturday if we want to win a championship,” said Henderson. “Overall, it was a good weekend and I’m happy with the way the car feels. We’re going to find victory lane sooner than later.”

Henderson kicked off the weekend on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway where he qualified seventh quickest among 34 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 16.318 seconds. He then advanced one position in a heat race to finish fourth and locked himself directly into the night’s A-main event.

“We’re continuously fast to start the night and we’re putting ourselves in a good position to be competitive,” he said. “That’s what you need to be successful and it’s nice to know you don’t need to worry too much about getting into shows.”

Lining up from the outside-third row starting spot for the feature, Henderson quickly advanced to the fourth position on lap two. After a multi-lap battle for the position with fifth-place driver Austin McCarl, he settled into fourth over the first half of the event. Following a restart with eight laps to go, he slipped back to fifth, but with two laps remaining he was able to advance back to fourth. Entering turn one on the following circuit, he broke a steering arm and was unable to control the car, so he came to a stop against the outside guardrail. He would not rejoin the field and as a result he was credited with finishing in 22nd.

“I don’t think we had anything for the top two guys on the track, so we were running right around where we were supposed to be in terms of speed,” said Henderson. “Unfortunately, we broke the steering arm there on the last lap and I lost brakes and couldn’t control the car at all. It stinks to see a top five go away there with only three turns remaining, but overall, we know that we had a pretty good car and aren’t far off in terms of competing for wins.”

The team next headed to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday, where Henderson qualified eighth quickest out of 26 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 11.065 seconds before finishing where he started – second – in a heat race, He earned a spot in the re-draw as a result and drew the No. 6 pill to claim an outside-third row starting spot for the feature.

On a track that took rubber near the halfway point of the feature, Henderson was unable to mount any real charge to the front of the field. However, he was able to capitalize in key moments to advance three positions throughout the duration of the A-main to earn a third-place finish and a spot on the podium. The top five finish was the team’s third of the season in six total starts.

“It was really hard to get up speed early in the night as it was pretty slick,” he said. ” I found the rubber pretty quick in the feature and I stayed there most the race. I was able to pick up a few spots, but by then everyone was just locked to the bottom going as fast as we could go. Everybody is racing on equal terms, so I can’t really complain about the night, and I’ll take the third.”

Next up for Henderson and Sandvig will be another weekend doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday and Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. Following last weekend’s disappointment at Knoxville, Henderson sits third in the track point standings. Meanwhile at Huset’s, Henderson sits in second in the standings and trails first by a mere 12 points.

Henderson also plans to compete for $3000 on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minnesota in his own MAX Motorsports No. 83 360 Sprint Car and again at Knoxville on Saturday. If he can sweep the weekend in the 360 division, there is an added $3000 bonus on the line as well.

“This is a big weekend for us, and I look forward to it every year,” said Henderson. “Anytime I can get extra laps in my car it can only benefit me in Mike’s car. In recent season’s we have been really fast in the 360 division, so I’m hoping that we can pick up a few wins and some extra money this weekend and hopefully that will rub off on the 410 sprint car side of things too.”

Henderson and Sandvig Lead First Laps of the Season During First Two Race Weekend of 2022

Brandon, SD – May 11, 2022

by Justin Snyder, Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Chuck Stowe Images

Justin Henderson and Mike Sandvig Motorsports took part in two events last weekend with a trip to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday and Huset’s Speedway on Sunday.

The two-race weekend netted the duo a season-best third-place finish at Knoxville on Saturday and a seventh-place finish at Huset’s on Sunday.

“For the first weekend with two races, it was not a bad weekend at all,” said Henderson. “We’ve got a lot of racing ahead of us this season and weekends like this will go a long way in preparing us for a busy race season.”

As result of multiple rainouts across the country, a whopping 43 drivers made the trek to Knoxville on Saturday. Undeterred by the added competition, Henderson began the evening by timing in second quickest in a qualifying flight with a fastest lap of 15.915 seconds. This marked the third consecutive week that Henderson has been among the top two fastest qualifiers to start the night at the Sprint Car Capital of the World.

“When you can qualify well, it makes the night a lot easier” he said. “It might as well have been an Outlaw show with all the drivers there, but I say bring them all as that’s really the only way you’ll ever know how you stack up truly.”

He backed up the impressive qualifying performance by advancing three positions in a heat race to finish third and lock himself into the A-main.

“We got a good start on the heat race and the starts are so important at Knoxville with their format,” said Henderson. “We got by a car early and that means so much as you don’t want to get stretched out early or you’ll ruin your night just like that.”

Lining up from the inside-second row for the feature, Henderson quickly moved into the runner-up position by the completion of lap three. Staying glued to the bottom of the Speedway, he took over the top spot on lap six and led the next ten laps of the event maneuvering in and out of lapped traffic with ease. With five laps remaining, he had to break his momentum to avoid making contact with a fast closing Carson Macedo and as a result he fell to second. He settled into the runner-up spot over the next four laps before falling to third on the final circuit.

“I honestly didn’t even know Carson was there as we had been going so well in traffic, but it definitely made me checkup and I broke my momentum,” he said. “It wasn’t a dirty move or anything like that and he did what he was supposed to do. I thought I might be able to get back to him, but I didn’t make a great decision on getting past a few lapped cars and it cost me a shot at the win and ultimately second.”

They next headed to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday, where Henderson entered the night as the defending track champion in the 410 Sprint Car division. He kicked of their 2022 Opening Day program by qualifying fourth quickest out of 27 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 10.784 seconds before finishing where he started – third – in a heat race,

He lined up fifth for the 25-lap feature event but struggled to make gains during the A-main and took the checkered flag in the seventh position. The top ten was Henderson’s third in four starts to begin the 2022 racing season.

“The car was good, but it was just a bunch of misfortunate events all night,” he said. “We made some bad moves on the track that kind of kept us scrambling, but I think the car was pretty good.”

Next up for Henderson and Sandvig will be another weekend doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday and Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. While Henderson currently sits on top of the 410 Sprint Car point standings at Knoxville and the team has been consistent with speed to kick off 2022, he’s not focused on the point lead and instead looking to find victory lane.

“To be leading the points now says we are good and have speed, but right now we are focused on finding victory lane and I think we’re really already looking towards the Knoxville Nationals,” said Henderson. “I think every time you pull into Knoxville you need to be working on your program for that weekend and to this point, we’re making gains and building towards that. We’ve got early speed and we’ve got a good car, which will be huge come Nationals weekend. Now we just need to find ourselves a win to back it up.”

GRP Motorsports, owned and managed by sprint car racing super fan Greg Parent, supports cars, drivers and racing events throughout the Midwest

“Greg has been a long-time supporter of mine in my own car for years and he’s come on board with Mike’s deal the last few years,” said Henderson. “He’s done a lot for me and this sport and that makes it even more special when we can provide him results and show our appreciation.”
