Zach Newlin Eyeing Return to 410 Sprint Car Ranks in 2023

Zach Daddy Will Also Continue to Pilot the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 Sprint Car

Following seven highly successful seasons in the 305 sprint car ranks, Zach Newlin moved into the 358 sprint car ranks in 2020.  He found victory lane at Williams Grove Speedway in that rookie season in his family owned Newlin Racing 11z.

The resume Newlin was building turned heads and, over the course of the past two and a half seasons, brought a few opportunities to fill the seat of a few 410 sprint cars.  While the Millerstown, PA resident greatly appreciated those opportunities, none of them blossomed into a long term situation.

Newlin had a few notable highlights in his limited 410 sprint car races, including qualifying for his first World of Outlaws A-main in October of 2021, and back-t0-back hard charger awards at Port Royal Speedway’s Labor Day Classic in 2020 and 2021.

Meanwhile, Newlin also kept one foot in the door of the 358 division, piloting the Mansberger Motorsports 21m in Central Pennsylvania.  He will continue wheeling that car in 2023, primarily at Williams Grove Speedway, however the team will likely look to expand their schedule a little over recent years.

Before the 2022 season had even wrapped up, Newlin had started shaping plans to resurrect his own familiar 11z, but this time with 410 cubic inch power plant under the hood.  Fans will definitely remember the unique ‘Zach Daddy’ green that Newlin made so recognizable in the 305 sprint car division, then in the 358 division as well.  While the final design is not in place yet, the green will make it’s return in 2023.

Newlin got started by purchasing a used engine that was in need of a rebuild.  It wasn’t ideal, but it was within his budget.  Small teams like Newlin’s need to keep costs down and spread their expenses out to keep going.

Invitations to get behind the wheel of someone’s 410 sprint car are not plentiful to say the least, plus having control of one’s own destiny to allow time to hone skills and grow knowledge is a positive of putting together your own deal.

Ever since we decided we were going down this path, we have been chipping away at trying to get the things we need.  We didn’t have much of anything remaining from the 2020 car that we could use.  We knew it wouldn’t be easy with limited funds and it might even take us a year, but we felt it was our best option…maybe our only option…if we wanted to continue racing 410’s.  I definitely didn’t want to give up on that goal.“, Newlin shared.

Newlin’s goal for the upcoming season is realistic.  He wants to have enough resources to get to the track at least a dozen times, so the team can make laps and learn.  The engine rebuild is progressing slowly but should be ready in time to meet Newlin’s April goal.  When his season does start, he will have one car, one engine and he won’t have a lot of spare parts, so the team will race smart to make sure they can keep racing and improving.

We’re making some progress, but we still have a long way to go.  I’m hoping to have the bare minimum of what I need to get to the track by the end of April.  Bringing a partner into our team would help move things along a little faster and help us be more prepared.”, Newlin said.

While his new 410 team may not find victory lane right away, Newlin has a lot to offer potential marketing partners.  He has amassed a sizeable and very supportive following over his years behind the wheel, and his future in the sport holds a lot of promising potential.

Newlin Logs Top 10 at Lincoln Speedway After Last Minute Schedule Addition

Mansberger Motorsports Team Not Done Yet in 2022

Abbottstown, PA – October 10, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Mac McPherson

After originally indicating their season was done, Zach Newlin and the Mansberger Motorsports team decided to extend their season with a trip to Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night, October 8th.

The team missed a few planned races earlier in the season due to weather and other personal reasons, so the equipment still had some laps left in it and the team wasn’t quite ready to call it a year.

October 8:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     [37 cars, Heat 2nd (3), A-main 10th (10)]

A deep field of 37 cars signed in to compete, setting up five 8-lap heat races for the 358 sprint cars.  The top four finishers would transfer to the A-main, with the top two making the handicap.  To qualify for the handicap, drivers need to have established a points average by participating in at least one previous race at the track this season.

Heat race lineups were set by a pill draw.  Zach Newlin was slated to start inside row two in the first heat race of the evening but took the green flag from the outside of the front row after one of the front row starters opted to drop to the rear of the field.

At the drop of the green, Dylan Norris got out in front to grab the early lead.  Newlin settled into the second spot and held the position for the duration of the event.  Despite finishing 2nd, Newlin did not qualify for the redraw since he had not competed at Lincoln Speedway during the 2022 season.

Newlin lined up 10th for the 20-lap A-main, just behind the handicapped starters.  The feature event was slowed multiple times by cautions, bunching the field and providing opportunities to make moves.  The Millerstown, PA native fought hard throughout the event, moving just inside the top ten at times, then slipping just outside for a few laps.

Ultimately Newlin came home with a 10th place finish, a respectable result on the team’s first trip to the Abbottstown, PA oval, especially against the field of cars assembled Saturday night.

Up Next

The team plans to return to Lincoln Speedway Saturday night, October 15th to extend their season yet one more night and hopefully end their up and down season on a high note.

Zach Newlin Closes Door On Challenging 2022 Season

Fast Car and Strong Run Comes Up Short at Williams Grove Speedway

Mechanicsburg, PA – September 26, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Chris Hockley / WRT Speedwerx

The 2022 season has been a frustrating one for Zach Newlin to say the least.  There never seemed to be an opportunity to get in a rhythm and build any consistency or momentum.

He occupied the seat of a couple different 410 sprint cars over the course of the season, as well as wheeling the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car.

Various circumstances led to his departure from both 410 seats after just a handful of races in each.  Weather, combined with some off-track matters, reduced his already limited 358 schedule by a handful of races.  When Newlin did hit the track, things just didn’t quite go his way.

Friday night’s 358 race at Williams Grove Speedway was the season finale for Newlin.  The goal was simply to end on a high note and start his off-season with something positive to build on.

September 23:  Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

     [35 cars, Heat 4th (4), A-main 23rd (16)]

Heat lineups for the 35 cars signed in were set by pill draw.  The top five finishers from each of the four 8-lap contests would transfer directly to the A-main.  All non-transfer cars would get one additional shot to make the show via the B-main.  The feature lineup would be ‘heads up’ in finishing order from the heat races, followed by the top four finishers from the B-main.

Newlin started outside row two in the fourth heat race.  He slipped to 5th on lap two when the No.2 of fifth place starter Kody Hartlaub got by.  Two laps later, Newlin raced past Dave Hollar’s No.10H to get back to 4th.  Every spot gained in the heat race was worth four spots on the A-main starting grid, but 3rd remained out of reach to the checkered flag.

From his 16th starting spot in the night’s 20-lap finale, Newlin initially lost ground.  He fell to 19th in the early going before he finally began chipping his way toward the front.  The Millerstown, PA native worked his way back to 16th by lap six.

A few laps later, Newlin reached 14th and had found his groove, turning his fastest lap of the race on lap thirteen.  As he began lap seventeen, working past more competitors on the low side of the speedway, he made contact with the inside fence and abruptly brought an end to his night.  He was officially credited with a 23rd place finish.

We had a fast car.  Our finish is on me.  I messed up.“, a frustrated Newlin said.

I felt great and was passing cars, but I clipped the inside guard rail coming off turn two and bent the front axle.  We had a top ten car tonight.  That’s just how our season has been.  Either we get caught up in something, we have a part failure or it’s self-inflicted.  That’s how it goes sometimes.  I’m ready to turn the page to 2023.

Newlin Overcomes Qualifying Troubles To Finish 12th at BAPS Motor Speedway

Williams Grove Speedway 358 Sprint Car Season Finale Up Next

York Haven, PA – September 20, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Garry Ferguson / WRT Speedwerx / Elite Racing Imagery

Not only was the ‘Dirty 30’ 358 sprint car event at BAPS MotorSpeedway last weekend part of the Summer Series events schedule, it was the highest paying race of the season for the open wheel division anywhere in the area.

The opportunity for a little extra cash, the series points, and bragging rights brought 36 teams to the York Haven, PA facility Saturday evening.

September 17:  BAPS Motor Speedway / York Haven, PA

     [36 cars, Heat 6th (7), B-main 1st (1), A-main 12th (21)]

The field was divided into four groups by pill draw.  They would qualify and heat race within those groups to set the lineup for the first twenty spots for the feature event.  The final four spots would come from the B-main.

Zach Newlin, aboard the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m, logged a disappointing 7th fastest lap of the nine cars in group one.

From the 7th starting spot in the first 8-lap heat race, Newlin would have to make it into the top five by the checkered flag to advance to the A-main.  He only managed to get to 6th, which shuffled him to the B-main for a final shot to make the show.

Newlin was able to take the win in the B-main, leading all eight laps and securing his spot in the 30-lap finale.

After getting involved in a lap four incident during the A-main, Newlin navigated his way through traffic from the rear of the field to garner a hard-earned 12th place finish.

Up Next

Newlin and the Mansberger Motorsports team will be back at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, September 23rd looking to close out the season with a strong finish in the final 358 sprint car race of 2022 at the legendary Pennsylvania facility.

Zach Newlin 11th in 358 Match Race at Williams Grove Speedway

Mechanicsburg, PA – September 5, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos Photography

Zach Newlin returned to the seat of a sprint car Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway for the first time in a month, and the first time in the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m since mid-July thanks to Mother Nature.

The 2022 season for the 358 sprint cars has been interrupted numerous times by weather, making it difficult for Newlin and Mansberger, who only compete at ‘The Grove’, to get into a rhythm.  With two September races remaining, the team came into Friday’s event aiming to close out the season with some positive momentum; something they can build on for 2023.

September 2:  Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

     [37 cars, Heat 4th (8), A-main 11th (13)]

The Match Race event, which offered an increased purse for the 358 sprint cars, drew a larger than usual field of 37 cars to Williams Grove Speedway Friday night.  The 25-lap main event offered a purse worth over $20,000, with $2,021 going to the winner and last place taking home $696.

Four 8-lap heat races were lined up by pill draw.  The top five finishers from each would transfer to the A-main.  The top two would participate in a redraw to set the top eight starting spots of the finale.

Newlin lined up 8th for the first heat of the night, but the rush hour like traffic at the back of the pack shuffled him to 10th by the end of lap one.  The Millerstown, PA resident collected his ride and made his way to 9th on lap two.

Newlin didn’t stop there.  He continued picking off the competition and capitalized on a late restart to race his way to a 4th place finish, securing his spot in the feature.

Rolling to the green flag in 13th for the 25-lap A-main, Newlin had his eyes set on a solid top ten run.  Forward progress was hard to come by in the early going.  By lap six Newlin had lost a spot and by the halfway point he was riding in 16th.

Over the final seven laps, after a large portion of the fuel load had burned off, Newlin’s car came alive.  He was able to be more aggressive and began to steadily climb through the running order.  With two laps remaining, Newlin moved into 12th and was looking for more.  On the final circuit, he wrestled 11th away from Frankie Herr.

It was good to get a full night under our belt.  This was only our third race this season, and we haven’t raced together since mid-July.  Getting comfortable is the key and we haven’t had enough consistent laps to accomplish that.  We were able to learn some things tonight, so we’ll build on it and hopefully finish the year out strong in a couple weeks.“, Newlin commented.

Up Next

Newlin and the Mansberger Motorsports team will be back at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, September 23rd looking to close out the season with a strong finish in the final 358 sprint car race of 2022 at the legendary Pennsylvania track.

Newlin Released from BK Motorsports 77; Will Focus on Mansberger Motorsports Ride for Balance of 2022

Millerstown, PA – September 2, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Chris Hockley / WRT Speedwerx

Zach Newlin was informed last week that he was being released by BK Motorsports and would no longer be piloting their No.77k after just eight races together.  The team’s best finish together was an 11th on June 4th, but they never found their rhythm.

With the 2022 season winding down, Newlin will focus on finishing out his schedule in the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car.  The team has two races remaining, both at Williams Grove Speedway.  This Friday September 2nd ‘The Grove’ will host the 358 Match Race for an increased purse, then will close out the 358 sprint car season on September 23rd.

Zach would like to thank his partners who have continued to support him throughout the years.  Special thanks to Grove Financial & Associates / Dillman Hauling / Ron’s RV Sales / T&M Homebuilders / Tuscarora Roofing Co. / Kirby Kitner Excavating, Blasting, Paving / Christine Booher, Realtor / Strange Oval / Walker Performance Filtration / and Newlin Bar Service!

While it may be six months away, Newlin is already thinking about his 410 sprint car options for 2023.

We’ll look at every possibility.  I want to be out there.  We’ll just have to see what opportunities there are or what we can put together.“, Newlin said.

Zach Newlin returned to the seat of the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.  It was their first race since May 20th after missing a couple shows due to non-racing related circumstances.  They were back and looking to improve on the season-best 7th place finish they recorded that night.

July 15:  Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

      [27 cars, Heat 4th (7), A-main 22nd (10)]

Three heat races were on the card for the 27 teams signed in.  The lineups were set by a pill draw and the top six finishers from each would transfer directly to the feature event, with the top four participating in a redraw to claim one of the top-12 starting spots in the 20-lap finale.

Newlin started deep in the field for the first heat race of the night.  From his 7th starting spot, he steadily worked his way toward the front and managed to snag the final redraw spot on lap six.  He held on to the spot to record a 4th place finish.

The redraw turned up a number ten for the Millerstown (PA) wheelman, putting him outside row five to start the 20-lap A-main.  The opening lap didn’t go Newlin’s way and he slipped back to 13th by the time the first circuit was complete.

Newlin quickly found his groove and drove his way to the 10th position by the completion of lap three.  A tight battle among several cars in the middle of the pack continued, and he found himself just outside the top ten looking in for a large portion of the race.

Zach Daddy was searching for a way to work himself back into the top ten when his night ended abruptly on lap 17.  Newlin was officially credited with a 22nd place finish.

We were too tight and then I had a really bad vibration develop as the race went on.  That’s what put us out of the race.  The car was better in the heat race.  We just didn’t make the right adjustments for the feature.“, Newlin explained.

The next outing for Newlin in the Mansberger Motorsports 358 sprint car will be Friday, July 29th at Williams Grove Speedway.

Zach’s next 410 sprint car race in the BK Motorsports No.77 is currently planned for Saturday, July 30th at Port Royal Speedway.
