Lincoln Speedway’s 358 Opener Up Next for East Berlin (PA) Wheelman

Kody Hartlaub may have been disappointed with the outcome at BAPS Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon, but he was happy with the gains the team made the past week.

There were some notable changes to his program during the off-season, including the chassis and some key suspension components, so Hartlaub made a trip to BAPS on March 22nd for their Test and Tune night to shake it down.  It was a productive night that led to some changes at the shop, which ultimately put the team in a better position when they unloaded Sunday afternoon.

  • Date:  3/26/23
  • Event:  March Sprint Madness
  • Track:  BAPS Motor Speedway
  • City, State:   York Haven, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 7th (10), B-main 1st (1), A-main 24th (19)

Difficult Start

Hartlaub’s season opener seemed to pick up where 2022 left off, with an unfriendly pill draw.  He lined up 10th in the first of three heat races for the 29 cars on hand.  Only the top six finishers would transfer directly to the A-main.

Making the cut didn’t look like it would be a problem for Hartlaub.  He surged into 7th by the second circuit but his progress stalled there.

A bolt had come loose on the hydraulic cylinder mount, preventing Hartlaub from being able to adjust the car’s top wing from the cockpit.  It was essential to make adjustments on the difficult daytime surface, so the East Berlin driver was left unable to make his car handle the way he needed it to and missed the transfer by one spot.

Back On Track

The B-main would have to be Hartlaub’s path to the feature but maybe that wasn’t a bad thing.  Starting on the pole gave Hartlaub a chance to evaluate his car in clean air.  In the heat race, he was buried in traffic and wrestling a wing issue.

Hartlaub would not be challenged from his starting spot on the pole of the 8-lap last chance race.  He registered a 17.493 for his best lap of the event, which was quicker than any 358 sprint heat race winner’s best all afternoon.  He and his team had clearly made progress dialing in the Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, C.H. Folk & Son Feeds, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.95.

Taking the green in the 20-lap A-main from the 19th starting spot, Hartlaub found forward progress difficult as the track took rubber.  As the racing groove became narrower, Hartlaub navigated his way up to 14th by lap eleven.  At that point he made the decision to call it a day, pull in and save his equipment.  He was officially credited with a 24th place finish.

Overall I am happy with the gains we made since testing Wednesday.  When we unloaded it was a completely different package than what we showed up with to test.  Just came down to being one of those tough days at the track from pill draw, to having a mechanical issue, to the difficult track surface.”, Hartlaub commented.

“I’m happy that all of that is behind us now and we can move on to Lincoln this week and really see where we are at.

Up Next

Kody will kick off his 2023 Lincoln Speedway season at their 358 sprint car opener on April 1st, where he will be aiming to improve on his impressive 2022 season that led to a 2nd place finish in the track’s championship points.  Qualifying begins at 6pm Saturday evening.

Busy 2023

Hartlaub has put together a schedule that will keep him busy in 2023.  It consists of 35 total races, with 5 of them being in his 410 sprint car, and the balance in the 358 division.

Fans can check Hartlaub’s schedule, purchase merchandise and keep up with the latest news at KodyHartlaub.com.

Kyle Keen Scores Top Ten at BAPS Motor Speedway in First Start of 2023

Lincoln Speedway 358 Opener on Tap This Weekend

York Haven, PA – March 28, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Seven months is a long time.  That’s how long Kyle Keen was on the sidelines, waiting for his motor to be repaired and the cold winds of winter to subside.

By the time he arrived at BAPS Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon, he was more than ready to strap back into his No.17 and get the 2023 season rolling.

Keen has also been looking forward to this season for another very special reason.  His No.17 will be adorned with a throwback scheme to honor his late grandfather, Jesse Keen.  The design Keen and his father, Shawn, chose was the one the team was running the year Jesse passed away.

Something felt right about bringing the car back from the year my grandpa passed away.  He had Brian Leppo behind the wheel and Steve Suchy on the wrenches that season but we lost him in May, so there was a lot of racing that never happened.  It feels like this car has unfinished business.“, Kyle Keen shared.

  • Date:  3/26/23
  • Event:  March Sprint Madness
  • Track:  BAPS Motor Speedway
  • City, State:   York Haven, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 4th (1), A-main 7th (9)

Debatable Decisions

Keen’s day started with some good fortune.  He drew the pole of the second heat race.

On the top-dominant, slick daytime surface, the key would be for Keen to get to turn one first from his inside front row starting spot.  With a well-timed launch in turn four, he pulled it off and jumped out to a two car length advantage, leading the field down the backstretch.

Keen remained out front at the line and held his advantage by sticking to the high side of turns one and two.  As he exited turn two, the caution lights flashed on for a spin at the back of the field.

When the caution was displayed, it appeared the full field had crossed the start/finish line, but officials indicated that was not the case and ordered a full double-file restart.

The second time, Keen dropped the hammer again aiming to win the race to turn one but instead another caution was called and the Carlisle, PA native was penalized one row for jumping the start.  As is almost always the case, it was debatable, however the only option was to race hard.

Things went from bad to worse on the restart, as Keen fell to 5th in the running order.  The top six finishers would transfer to the A-main, but track position is always critical on a daytime surface.

Keen continued to battle.  On a late race restart, he was able to wrestle 4th away from Tyler Ulrich to claim the final redraw spot.  He held on to the spot to the checkered flag.

Staying Focused

Despite the events of the heat race and a tricky racing surface, the key to the remainder of Keen’s day would be his focus.

Car control would be key and if the track were to take rubber, keeping his machine in that narrow racing line would be essential.

As a top four finisher in the heat race, he participated in the redraw.  The result wasn’t quite as lucky as his earlier draw.  With positions one through nine up for grabs, Kyle pulled the 9th starting spot for the feature in his Fine Line Auto Body, Keen Parts/CorvetteParts.net, Doubling Gap Ranch, Shetron, Auction & Equipment, LLC., Wicked Dog Grille, Heishman Racing Fuels, Wicked Cushion, DL Lehman Construction, Gearhead Coffee, Jeremy Zarfos Photography, Coyle’s Lawn Maintenance, 2B Wrapped, 4 Leaf Clover Farms, Turn 2 Terribles Podcast & Media, Kyle Keen Motorsports No.17.

There is little margin for error on a racing surface like drivers encountered Sunday at BAPS Motor Speedway.  Drivers find themselves fighting the balance between being aggressive enough to move forward but conservative enough to make it to the end.  Keen survived tight racing and multiple cautions, battling the rubbered-up racetrack throughout the 20-lap A-main for a 7th place finish.

Overall, our car has decent speed and I’m excited for the rest of the season!  Thanks to everyone that helps make this possible! Can’t complain with a top 10 right out of the box.“, a smiling Keen commented.

Up Next

The next event on the schedule for Kyle Keen Motorsports is April 1st at Lincoln Speedway in the speedway’s season opener for the 358 sprint cars.  Action starts at 6pm Saturday.

2023 Plans

Keen has a 25-race schedule laid out for 2023 that will take him to at least five different Central Pennsylvania speedways.  You can find those details and keep up with any changes by visiting KyleKeenMotorsports.com/schedule.

Reinhardt Races Through the Field To Earn Top-5 Finish and Hard Charger Award

Trip to Home State of New Jersey Is Up Next

York Haven, PA – March 27, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

It’s still early in the 2023 season but after three races, Kyle Reinhardt arrived at BAPS Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon focused on continuing to move his new program forward.

The Capitol Renegade team has been making progress.  They demonstrated it last week by making the World of Outlaws show at Lincoln Speedway through their heat.  Today was their chance to show it was a trend.

  • Date:  3/26/23
  • Event:  March Sprint Madness
  • Track:  BAPS Motor Speedway
  • City, State:   York Haven, PA
  • Quick Stats:  32 cars, Heat 5th (7), A-main 5th (19): Hard Charger Award

First Hurdle

There’s one part of Reinhardt’s day he can never control:  the pill draw.  As often seems to be the case, the number he pulled wasn’t exactly ideal.  With only the top five finishers transferring from each of four heats on a slick, daytime surface, the Neptune City, NJ native would have to roll to the green from the 7th starting spot.

Reinhardt managed to get what he needed out of the Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Henry’s Wrecker No.91, grabbing the 5th and final transfer spot to put himself into the main event.  It would be tough to start that deep in the field on the hard, slick daytime surface but he was in.

Closing the Deal

Reinhardt started 19th in the A-main, prepared to just survive if necessary.  He quickly found something though and by lap two he was 15th.

Reinhardt’s Maxim continued to perform as he balanced progress with tire conservation.  By lap five he had cracked the top ten.

With 25 laps complete, a caution turned into a red flag for a brief fuel stop.  Due to conditions, officials decided to end the race three laps short of the scheduled distance.

When green flag racing resumed, Reinhardt was 4th with two laps remaining.  In the final turns he slipped back one spot, but still managed to survive and bring home a top five finish, earning the Hard Charger Award in the progress for his +14 effort.

The car was really good today.  During that last red I had a chance to look at my tires.  I knew I didn’t have much left, so I was just trying to get it to the end.  I just wanted to finish.“, a relieved Reinhardt said after the race.

I knew I had to try something to move forward, so I gave the top a shot early and was surprised how well it worked.  I stayed with it as long as I could.  Trying to pass cars and save tires at the same time is a tough deal.”

“It was a good day.  We’re going the right direction.“, Reinhardt concluded.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2023 season.

Kyle can be contacted via [email protected].

Up Next

Next up for Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team will be a trip to his home state of New Jersey for the ‘Invasion of the Posse’ 410 sprint car event at Bridgeport Motorsports Park on Sunday, April 2nd.  Cars will hit the track for hot laps at 4pm.

Season Stats

4 races, 0 wins, 1 top 5’s, 1 top 10’s, 2 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to the previous trivia question is Kyle Reinhardt picked up four wins and a track championship in the 360 sprint car division at Selinsgrove Speedway in 2019!

Just prior to moving into the 360 and 410 sprint car divisions, what division did Kyle Reinhardt compete in on a regular basis?

The answer in the next press release!

Newlin’s Day Spoiled By Cut Tire in BAPS 358 Sprint Opener

Williams Grove’s 358 Opener Up Next April 7th

York Haven, PA – March 27, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Zach Newlin and the Mansberger Motorsports team experienced their share of challenges last season.  After a long winter and a wait of nearly six months since their last outing, they were ready for a fresh start and better luck.

  • Date:  3/26/23
  • Event:  March Sprint Madness
  • Track:  BAPS Motor Speedway
  • City, State:   York Haven, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 5th (5), A-main 21st (13)

Setting the Stage

Newlin strapped into the Manchester Hydraulics, Marlow’s Metal Fabrication, Safety Kleen, Lee Chassis Repair & Components, Will’s Lawncare, Mansberger Motorsports No.21m Sunday afternoon to kick off the team’s 2023 season at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, PA.

They were among a field of 29 cars who would be competing in the track’s March Sprint Madness event.  It was a beautiful, sunny but breezy afternoon, which created a dry, slick and dusty racing surface from first time the green flag dropped.

The conditions would be a factor all day long for teams, making passing difficult and tire wear a concern.

By luck of the draw, Newlin started 5th in his heat race.  The top six finishers were scheduled to transfer to the A-main, but just getting in wasn’t the goal.  Every position gained in the heat race would move you up three spots in the starting lineup, and drivers would finished in the top three would participate in the redraw, giving them a shot at starting up front.

A good starting spot would be a valuable commodity on the tricky daytime surface.

Newlin closed in on 4th place a few times over the course of the 8-lap event but could never get alongside or make the pass.  He settled for a 5th place finish.

The Finale

Newlin started the 20-lap A-main in 13th and made some forward progress in the opening laps.  A couple caution flags slowed the field during the first half of the race.

Running 11th as the race neared the halfway mark, Newlin got a little wide coming off turn two and lost a spot.  Moments later his No.21m ended up facing the wrong way in the middle of turns three and four after contact from behind.

Newlin pushed off again after the spin but realized his right rear tire was going down.  He was forced to pull off and call it a day.

I thought I messed up off turn two.  Then I tried to hustle the car but I guess I left the door open too far entering three and got bumped enough to turn me.  The tire was probably going down before I realized it.”, Newlin said.  “I still had a little tread left but I must have run over something.  We found a cut and a small hole on the right rear.

It’s disappointing because we had a car good enough to run top ten today.  There’s a couple things I could’ve done better.  We will learn from it and try again in two weeks at The Grove.“, Newlin concluded.

Up Next

Next up for Zach Daddy and the Mansberger Motorsports team will be the 358 sprint car season opener at Williams Grove Speedway on April 7th.  Qualifying is scheduled to kick off at 7:30pm.

Season Stats

1 races, 0 wins, 0 top 5’s, 0 top 10’s, 0 top 15’s

Devin Hart’s Last Minute Trip to Winchester Pays Off With a Victory

KHK Motorsports Unveils 2023 Season Plans

Port Royal, PA – March 23, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Devin Hart has been itching to get the 2023 season started.  Last weekend he had a choice to make.  He could stay home, he could haul about an hour for a test session, or he could haul two and a half hours to race.

Well, racers race.

Saturday morning, at their shop in the shadow of Port Royal Speedway, the team loaded up and by sunset they were standing in victory lane 130 miles away in Winchester, VA.

  • Date:  Saturday, March 18th, 2023
  • Track:  Winchester Speedway
  • City, State:   Winchester, VA
  • Quick Stats:  18 cars, Qualifying 1st in Group 3, Heat 1st (1), A-main 1st (3)

Successful Trip South

A field of 18 limited late models signed in for Saturday’s event at Winchester Speedway in Virginia.  Teams were divided into groups for timed hot laps to determine heat race lineups within their group.

Devin Hart set quick time in group number three, giving him the pole of the third heat.  He remained fast in the heat race and claimed the win handily.

By virtue of his victory in the heat race, Hart started 3rd in the feature.  He jumped out in front on the opening lap, then survived some pressure in lapped traffic and a late race caution to record the win in his Lucky Buck, Hungry Run Wine Cellars, FK Rod Ends, JDS Racing, Penske Racing Shocks, Barron’s Racing Engines, Centre Boot Company, Gridiron Pizza & Gridiron Pub, Brown’s Automotive, Rocket Chassis XR1 No.33k.

This was just one of those days where everything went our way it seemedWhen that hole opened up in turn one on the first lap, I went for it and got out front early.  Seemed like we were at the right place at the right time all day.  I hope we have a lot of these kinds of days this year.”, Hart said.

A  lap 18 caution, followed by a red flag on the ensuing restart, bunched the field and gave the frontrunners another shot at Hart.  He was up to the task though and held on for his first win of the season in his first opportunity.

We haven’t changed the core of our program.  We still have Barron’s Racing Engines power from Tom Barron under the hood.  We still have Penske Shocks by JDS Racing with great support from Doug Distasio (Penske) and Jim Stevens (JDS).  And of course, we are still in our Rocket XR1 chassis.” Hart added.

“I can’t thank all of them enough for the great stuff they give us.   Along with the win, we learned some things today too, so it was definitely worth the trip.  Hopefully we can get all our great partners in victory lane a bunch this year.”

Hart's 2023 Goals

After dividing his time between the Steve Campbell owned No.2 and his own No.33k in 2022, Hart is back fully focused on his own program this season.

After winning track championships at both Port Royal Speedway and Selinsgrove Speedway in 2021, Hart fell short of repeating the feat in 2022.  He finished 4th and 2nd respectively at those tracks last season.

In 2023, Hart won’t chase points.

We’re going to run where it makes sense for us.  We’ll still be at Port Royal (Speedway) a lot; probably every time they have our division, but there are some bigger races we want to take a shot at when we can.”, Hart said.

Another part of it is we all have jobs, so we will work around everyone’s schedule and make the most of our opportunities to go racing.

Port Royal Speedway has eleven limited late model dates on their schedule, so that leaves plenty of room on the calendar for Hart and the KHK Motorsports team to roam.  Hart noted a handful of events at Hagerstown Speedway and Bedford Speedway as some the team have penciled in on their schedule.

If there’s one race I have circled on the schedule though, it’s the Butch Renninger Memorial at Port Royal.  That one honors my grandfather.  It would mean a lot to me to win it.”, Hart shared.

I have wanted to win that one since we started but it just hasn’t come together for us yet.  We race one week at a time but every lap around that place before September, in my mind, is just preparation for that race.”

Up Next

Hart and the KHK Motorsports team will open their Port Royal Speedway season this weekend with the track’s first Limited Late Model event of 2023.

Season Stats

1 races, 1 wins, 1 top 5’s, 1 top 10’s, 1 top 15’s

Trivia Question

How many wins did Devin Hart accumulate in his banner 2021 season in the Limited Late Model division?

Reinhardt’s Determined Charge Puts Team in the Show vs. Outlaws

Team Striving To Make the Most of Limited Opportunities in the Early Part of the Season

Abbottstown, PA – March 23, 2023

Kyle Reinhardt’s determined heat race charge put his team in the show when opportunity knocked versus the World of Outlaws at Lincoln Speedway Saturday Night.

Reinhardt had been looking forward to tackling the tough, two-race weekend in Pennsylvania against the World of Outlaws last week.  With only two races under his team’s belt thus far in 2023, they needed more track time to continue rebuilding their program.  Plus, the weekend provided an opportunity to compete for a good payout and get laps on the new Hoosier tire.

Friday night’s event at Williams Grove Speedway fell victim to the rain, leaving Reinhardt with only one opportunity to add to his notebook last weekend.

  • Date:  3/18/23
  • Event:  World of Outlaws Spring Showdown
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  49 cars, Qualifying 19th in Group B, Heat 5th (10), A-main 25th (17)

Adjusting to Change

The new Hoosier tires are a big change for all teams this season.  Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway everyone was starting from scratch.  Even those teams with thick notebooks from years of experience were on a level playing field, so to speak.

The night didn’t get off on the right foot for Reinhardt, who qualified 19th in Group B.  With a high quality field of 49 cars on hand, the rest of the night looked like it would be an uphill climb for the Neptune City, NJ native.

The heat race would need to tell a better story if Reinhardt was to have a shot at completing that climb.  Getting to a top five transfer spot would be tough, but every pass he could make would improve his chances to transfer through the B-main.

Reinhardt started moving forward from the drop of the green in the 8-lap heat race, but his progress stalled in the 7th spot until a late-race caution provided opportunity.  Restarting 6th, he was able to build up enough momentum to slip past Austin Bishop in the final turn.

The move put Reinhardt in the 5th and final transfer spot.  Uphill climb complete.  He was in the show.

I didn’t time-trial well.  We just didn’t have the car right.  The car was pretty good in (turns) three and four, but I didn’t have any grip off turn two.  That’s where the guys who timed up front were better.  We are a little behind.  We will need some laps to learn how this new tire behaves.“, Reinhardt shared.

I made a lot of changes for the heat race, and it paid off.  The car was a lot better.  We moved forward, which is tough here in a short race.  I got the break I needed when Gio (Scelzi) brought out the caution.  It gave me the restart I needed to get a shot at the final transfer spot.

Learning and Building

In the A-main, Reinhardt initially moved forward a few spots from his 18th starting position.  The Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Henry’s Wrecker No.91 appeared poised to make another solid run, just as it had done in the heat race.

A caution flag about ten laps into the 35-lap race took away Reinhardt’s momentum.  On the ensuing restart, he got shuffled back a few spots.

Reinhardt wasn’t able to regain the track position.  The car wasn’t quite the same after that and he slid back to a 25th place finish.

We didn’t change enough for the feature.  We will need to get used to this new tire and how it reacts over the course of longer races.  We struggled with balance.“, Reinhardt commented.

A lot of guys went home tonight and didn’t get to race, so I’m happy that we were able to make the race.  I think the positives we took away from tonight and the knowledge we gathered are something we can build off of for sure.

Up Next

Reinhardt said the team will be selective about when and where it races over the next few weeks while tracks allow a period of time for teams to transition from the old Hoosier tires to the new ones.  Most tracks are allowing a four race ‘burn-off period’.  Some Pennsylvania tracks will reach that by the end of March, while others will stretch into April due to weather cancellations early in the season.

We don’t have many of the old tires left and I can’t justify spending money for older tires for a couple races, so we will just pick our spots until we don’t have that variable in the equation anymore.“, Reinhardt said.

We’ve said from the start this year that we will need to be smart with our resources while we rebuild our program.  This is just a part of that.

Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team will be in attendance Sunday, March 26th at BAPS Motor Speedway for March Sprint Madness!  Racing begins at 4pm.

Trivia Question

The answer to the previous trivia question is Kyle Reinhardt’s first 410 sprint car victory came at Port Royal Speedway in the Labor Day Classic event in 2019!

2019 was a banner year for the Neptune City, NJ driver.  At what speedway that year did he pick up four wins and a track championship in the 360 sprint car division?

The answer in the next press release!

Kyle Reinhardt Kicked Off His 2023 Season in Pennsylvania

Two-Race Weekend Begins the Rebuilding Process

Port Royal, PA – March 9, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Reinhardt kicked off his 2023 season with a two-race weekend at Lincoln Speedway and Port Royal Speedway.  It was the first opportunity of the year for the new team to work together at the track and to find out if they could build on the baseline they had established with the same equipment at the end of last season.

  • Date:  3/4/23
  • Event:  Modified Madness
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 8th (10), B-main 5th (5), A-main 16th (23)

  • Date:  3/5/23
  • Event:  Opening Day
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 5th (7), A-main 13th (15)

Lincoln Recap

Lincoln Speedway’s Saturday afternoon race, their final scheduled daytime show of the season, saw 29 teams sign in for action.  The lineups for three 10-lap heat races were set by a random draw.  The top six finishers from each would transfer to the A-main, with the remainder of the field moving to the B-main for a final shot to make the show.

Reinhardt’s day got off to a less than desirable start with a high draw that placed him 10th in the starting lineup for his heat race.  An 8th place finish wasn’t quite enough to put him in the show, but he later advanced through the B-main.

Reinhardt started 23rd in the 30-lap A-main and was able to make some forward progress during the race, recording a 16th place finish at the end of the day.

We were a lot better at the end of the day.  We were just buried too deep in traffic to do a lot with what we had.”, Reinhardt commented.

Port Royal Recap

The lid-lifter for the 2023 season at ‘The Speed Palace’ drew 29 sprint car teams to chase the newly announced $5,000 winner’s share for weekly shows.  The format lined up three 10-lap heat races by pill draw, with the top six finishers from each transferring directly to the feature event.  Only the top three would make the invert redraw.

For the second day in a row, Reinhardt’s draw wasn’t a friendly one.  He lined up 7th in his heat race and battled his way to 5th on the tricky daytime surface.  He was in the show, but once again would start deep in the field.

Reinhardt rolled to the green for the 25-lap A-main from his starting spot inside row eight.  Forward progress was minimal for the Neptune City, NJ native Sunday afternoon, and he ultimately crossed the line with a 13th place finish.

Overall, it was just good to shake the rust off.  I had a few new guys helping, so we needed this weekend to start learning to work together at the track and to get everyone working in the same direction.“, Reinhardt said.

Our results weren’t the best but starting in row 4 and 5 in the heats doesn’t help. We need to get better at passing cars in the heats to set us up better for feature time at draw shows.

Up Next

With this weekend’s World of Outlaw action in Pennsylvania scrapped due to weather, next up for Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Henry’s Wrecker No.91 will be battles against the World of Outlaws at Williams Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway on Friday and Saturday, March 17th and 18th.

Keep up with the latest on Kyle’s schedule all season long at Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events.

Halligan Convincing Out of the Gate; Brings Home Top 5

Team Preparing for Early Season Outlaw Invasion of Pennsylvania

Port Royal, PA – March 8, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Jeff Halligan was convincing, to say the least, right out of the gate at Port Royal Speedway on Sunday, driving around and away from pole-sitter Dylan Cisney.  He held that advantage until he could nearly smell the checkered flag, then things got complicated.

  • Date:  3/5/23
  • Event:  Opening Day
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 3rd (4), A-main 5th (2)

Early Action

Halligan and the Risser Motorsports, TheTreeCenter.com, Victory Auto of Lewistown, EMM Sales & Service, Jake’s Golf Carts, Pine Hill Trailers, Keystone Ag Spraying No.45 rolled into Port Royal Speedway Sunday afternoon to kick off another season at a track where they have had success in recent years.  The team captured two victories and finished third in the championship point standings in 2022.

With 29 teams signed in for action on the sunny Central Pennsylvania day, the format called for three 10-lap heat races.  The top six from each would transfer directly to the feature event, but only the top three would be included in the invert redraw.

Halligan started outside the second row in heat race number two.  It took a couple laps to get rolling but the Ephrata, PA driver then powered his way into 3rd and went to work for more.  A late caution looked like it would give Halligan an opportunity to claim another spot, but it wasn’t to be.  He finished 3rd at the line.

The Day's Finale

The invert redraw, which flips either the top 3, 6, 9 or 12 in the starting lineup, worked to Halligan’s advantage.  The invert put him outside the front row, alongside Dylan Cisney to start the 25-lap, $5,000 to win A-main.

Halligan wasted no time taking advantage of the high side of the speedway with his well-handling race car.  He drove into turn one practically ‘door to door’ with Cisney but powered around the top and drove off turn two with the advantage.

Twice in the first half of the race cautions appeared to work in Halligan’s favor.  As he stretched his lead and closed on lapped traffic, the caution lights flashed on, resetting the field and giving Halligan a clear track.

In the later stages of the race, Halligan finally did reach lapped traffic.  He held his own, making timely moves and keeping second place Parker Price-Miller at bay by a few car lengths.  With six laps to go, Price-Miller finally pulled alongside Halligan’s No.45 but he couldn’t get by.

With three laps remaining and the top five getting tighter as the leaders navigated traffic, things changed.  A split-second decision took away Halligan’s momentum and the lead slipped away.  By the time Halligan got back the momentum he had lost, he had slipped a few more spots and he crossed the line in 5th.

I should’ve won.“, a straight to the point Halligan said after the race.

That was definitely a learning moment for me.  I will move on and get better from it, but it’s still tough to lose one that way.

Recapping the series of events, Halligan zeroed in on the moment when he entered turn one and chose to go low to avoid a string of lapped cars that were occupying the high line, right where he had been ‘making hay’ all day.

“Go where they aren’t” seemed to be the right thing to do.  Halligan quickly realized it was the wrong choice.  He exited turn two with the lead momentarily, but he had lost momentum and Price-Miller shot by.  Meanwhile, Dylan Cisney closed on the pair and sailed high into turn three as the top two dove to the bottom.  The move left Halligan in third with two laps remaining.

Just over a lap earlier, Halligan dove low into turn three to take away the momentum Parker Price-Miller was building up.  He, and many in attendance, thought that was the move that sealed the win at the time.

The car was really good.  That’s what I’ll take away from today.  That and I will get up on the wheel a little more next time probably.“, a still smiling Halligan said.

Season Plans

Halligan’s 2023 schedule will resemble last year.  The team’s home will be Port Royal Speedway and their primary goal will be chasing wins and a possible points championship at the fairgrounds half-mile known as ‘The Speed Palace’.

In addition, the team will hit a mix of bigger events in the Central Pennsylvania region.  Most of those dates will be determined week by week, closer to the race dates.  Stay tuned to Halligan’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.

Up Next

Halligan and the Risser Motorsports team will return to Port Royal Speedway to take on the World of Outlaws on Friday, March 10th at 7pm and Saturday, March 11th at 4pm.  Both nights offer a tidy $10,000 to the winner.

Season Stats

1 races, 0 wins, 1 top 5’s, 1 top 10’s, 1 top 15’s

Trivia Question

In what year did Jeff Halligan win the Central PA 358 Sprint Championship?

Feathers Fighting to Figure Out Tricky Port Royal

Team Gathering Data and Adjusting Their New Barry Wright Icon

Port Royal, PA – March 8, 2023

Trever Feathers has had plenty of success at The Speed Palace, Port Royal Speedway, in recent years but over the past dozen trips there, he has struggled to find the right combination.

  • Date:  3/5/23
  • Event:  Opening Day
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:  Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 2nd (4), A-main 11th (7)

Early Action

The early March season opener at Port Royal Speedway attracted a quality field of 31 super late models, including a number of the top regional names.  The day’s format called for four 8-lap heat races, which were lined up by a random pill draw.  The top five finishers from each would transfer directly to the feature event, but only the top three would participate in the invert redraw.

Feathers lined up 4th for his heat race.  He darted to the middle at the drop of the green and claimed 3rd on the opening lap.

By the halfway mark, Feathers had tracked down then runner-up Shaun Jones and wrestled the 2nd spot away.  Colton Flinner, who held the top spot throughout the race, had built up too much of a cushion to be caught in the remaining laps, leaving Feathers with the runner-up finish and a spot in the invert redraw.

Main Event

The 3, 6, 9 and 12 pills were the invert redraw options.  The number pulled would determine the number of cars to be inverted to set the starting lineup in the 25-lap $4,000-to-win main event.  The #12 was pulled, which wasn’t the best potential outcome for Feathers, but a 7th starting spot could certainly be overcome.

A quick start is almost a necessity in the highly competitive super late model division at Port Royal Speedway.  With such close competition, the drop of the green is the best time to gain track position.  The opening lap of the feature didn’t go Feathers’ way.  From his starting spot on the low side of the speedway, he moved to open space in the middle entering turn one but was forced higher and ultimately lost a little momentum.  He managed to recover and hang on to 9th at the completion of lap one.

The remainder of the afternoon was more of the same for Feathers.  He hovered around 9th but couldn’t mount a charge deeper inside the top ten in the Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, Clem’s Garage, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Bilstein Shocks, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Bo Feathers Racing, Barry Wright Race Cars, No.20.

Feathers would up 11th after swapping positions twice on the final lap during a tight battle with Austin Berry.

We aren’t far off, but we just can’t seem to find the balance we need here during the features.  We go from a little too tight to a little too loose.“, Feathers said.  I had a really good car earlier during the heat race but we just didn’t get it right for the feature.  We are still in the mix now when the car isn’t quite right, so when we do get it right we will be good.

Over the past year we’ve been able to go other places, adjust from our baseline, and win races.  When we come here (Port Royal) the car just doesn’t react the same.  We will keep digging.  We will figure it out.“, Feathers concluded.

Up Next

Feathers and the Larry Royston Racing No.20 will return to Port Royal Speedway on March 25th to compete with the ULMS.

Partner Spotlight

HOTROD Septic is an industry leader in septic treatment technology for homes and RVs.  The company was founded in 2018 after breakthrough discoveries and success in the commercial manure management sector.

On a larger scale, HOTROD’s parent company works to manufacture sustainable and organic agricultural products for large confined animal facilities to deal with common manure issues: Odor, Sludge, Solids and Contamination.

They treat 1-50 Million gallons of material at a time and can achieve full digestion with this proprietary formulation. After seeing some of the pictures of a fully digested lagoon, a family member asked if they could formulate something that would do that in a septic system. About 2-months into testing, he called to come look at a tank he had treated with the new formulation. It was completely water. The product had fully digested the waste in the tank.

Everything started right there. The family has over 40 years of experience in the septic industry which made a great platform for testing and trials. As 3rd party data was being collected, it didn’t take long to discover this was the best septic treatment ever created.

Berry Debuts With Top 10 at The Speed Palace

Team Unveils Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Campaign Paint Scheme

Port Royal, PA – March 7, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Austin Berry didn’t load up at the end of Port Royal Speedway’s Opening Day event with the exact finish he knew his car was capable of, but overall, he picked up where he left off at the end of last season; running near the front and being in contention for podium finishes against a strong field of contenders.

  • Date:  3/5/23
  • Event:  Opening Day
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  31 cars, Heat 2nd (6), A-main 10th (8)

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Car Reveal

Over two hours before they would be able to fire the engine, the Austin Berry Racing team unloaded and revealed their winter-long labor of love, their Pancreatic Cancer Awareness car, which blends the purple associated with many causes that battle the deadly cancer, with Berry’s traditional yellow and black No.86.

Berry flies the purple colors every five years in honor of his biggest fan, his grandfather, who lost his life to the disease 15 years ago.  In the near future, the team plans to announce more details about the fundraising and awareness efforts they will carry out during the 2023 season.

I’m excited to be doing this again to honor my grandfather and raise awareness about the disease that took him from us and has affected so many people we know.”, Berry shared.  “The car looks great too.  P3 Graphix really nailed the design.

We want to raise money for the cause, but my primary goal this year is to spread awareness and focus on the people it has affected.”, Berry said.

I would love to have all the black space on our car filled with the personalized decals by the end of the year.

Berry was referring to the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness decals the team will be selling that fans can personalize with a note in honor or memory of a loved one, or just a general note of support and encouragement to those affected.

I also want to let everyone know we are working on t-shirt deal.  It is in the works, and we hope to have the new shirts for this campaign and our season within the next month or so.”, Berry said.

100% of the funds raised from the team’s campaign will be donated to PanCan.org to help find a means of early detection.

Early Action

A stout field of 31 super late models was on hand for Sunday’s lid-lifter at The Speed Palace.  Top names like Greg Satterlee, Trever Feathers, Rick Eckert, Ross Robinson, Jeff Rine and Gary Stuhler were among the many quality teams signed in.

The opening day format called for four 8-lap heat races, which were lined up by a random pill draw.  The top five finishers from each transferred directly to the feature event, but only the top three would participate in the invert redraw.

Berry lined up 6th in the first heat race of the afternoon in his The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, A&C Racing Engines, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis No.86.

The Mifflin, PA native wasted no time charging toward the front from the drop of the green.  Running 3rd after one lap, Berry continued his surge into the runner up spot on the following lap.  He closed the gap a little on leader Justin Weaver but ran out of time and rode home 2nd.

The Day's Finale

The invert redraw would invert either 3, 6, 9 or 12 cars for the starting lineup in the 25-lap $4,000 to win main event.  Unfortunately, it was a worst case result for Berry when the #12 pill turned up, landing him 8th on the starting grid.

In the early going, it didn’t appear the starting spot would hold Berry back.  He quickly moved into 6th on the opening lap, then continued to move forward by running a lane above his competition.

Berry’s Rocket XR1 looked like a rocket.  By the second circuit he was riding in 4th and challenging for more.

Soon after Berry started to notice something amiss.  He was down on power, but the engine wasn’t showing signs of distress, so he worked to battle through it.

Berry held on to a top five spot through lap twenty, but then some of those veterans managed to finally reel him in and get by.  Berry slid to a 10th place finish over the final four laps.

I’m not dissatisfied, just disappointed.  Feel like we let a top five slip through our fingers.“, Berry commented.

Although the core program is the same, Berry and his team had made a number of changes to their program during the offseason.  Plus, they made the decision to start 2023 on the new Hoosier tires so they could start learning how their car would react and making the necessary adjustments to find speed.

We had a lot of speed today, so we are really happy about that, especially given the changes we have made and the switch to the new Hoosier tires.”, Berry said.

Discussing his troubles in the final stages of the race, Berry stated “It ran fine in hot laps, the heats and at the start of the feature, but then the motor just went a little flat.  We are pretty sure we have an electrical issue that caused it.  We will be digging into that at the shop.  The motor is fine.”

We got through day unscathed, so it’s not a bad way to start the year.  We were capable of running 3rd to 5th with the motor at full song the whole way.  We will get that figured out.  I’m excited to keep racing.  The car feels like it did at the end of last year, so given all the changes, that’s a win in my book.“, Berry concluded.

Up Next

The next race for Berry and the team will be the March 25th ULMS event at Port Royal Speedway.

In the meantime, they are planning to test at either Selinsgrove Speedway or Hagerstown Speedway to make sure they have resolved their electrical issues.

Trivia Question

In what year and at what track did Austin Berry pick up his first dirt super late model victory?
