Halligan Searching for Consistency After Up and Down Stretch Through March and April

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ephrata, PA – May 5, 2025

Over the past month and a half, Jeff Halligan and team have experienced some good and some bad. After starting out the first few races of the season at Lincoln Speedway, the team got to get back to several other tracks within the Central PA region, as the race season went into full swing.

With a top five finish at Lincoln Speedway on March 15th, Halligan’s speed continued to show from previous weeks. Consistency also started to show, as this was the second top 10 finish of the season in just three races. Jeff was able to follow up that strong performance with back to back 7th place runs at the Port Royal Speedway, on very different track surfaces. A promising run seemed to be in store for the 45 at the end of March, at the BAPS Motor Speedway, until trouble took the Ephrata racer out of contention while running in the top 5.

As the calendar flipped to a new month, Jeff and team were able to start picking off more consistent top 10 finishes. Even with rain trying to wash out racing plans, seemingly every weekend, the team was able to score two more top 10 runs at Lincoln and BAPS Motor Speedway. The April 13th show at BAPS, was arguably the best run of the season for Halligan. Rolling off from the front row and sliding into the lead at the start of the race, Jeff was able to lead 14 laps before being passed by Danny Dietrich. Halligan then had to battle with the Heffner 27, where he managed to come out ahead, and grab a respectable 2nd place finish.

With double features slated at Williams Grove to make up a feature the following week, issues befell on the 45, as the car experienced trouble coming up to speed and ultimately sidelined the team for both features. More trouble found the it’s way to the car the following night (April 19th) at Port Royal, with Jeff having to retire from the feature race early, while running in the top 10.

The last weekend of the month of April featured an 11th place run at the Port Royal Speedway, with passing at a premium, and an unfortunate 6th place finish in the B Main at BAPS the following night.

“Last couple of weeks we’ve been fighting some gremlins,” stated Halligan.

But hopes are still high. “We will be better moving forward.”

As the team looks to put some of the struggles behind them going into May, Jeff again reiterated the necessity of consistency. “We really just need to stay consistent and string together top 5’s and wins will come.”

While some of the results have not shown it, the team has shown good speed and the ability to compete for strong results and even wins. With over half of the feature results this year, ending up in top 10 finishes, speed has surely not been lacking.

“When we’ve been fast, we’ve been really fast, so looking to get back to that” mentioned Halligan.

With a steadfast sense of confidence, since hopefully figuring out the issues with the car, Jeff seemed eager to get into a busy part of the year, with multiple high-paying shows and traveling series’ making their way into the Keystone state. Competing with both the World of Outlaws and High Limit Racing over the next month, will test the strength of the 45 car.

Upcoming schedule plans will include all three nights of racing action with the World of Outlaws at Lincoln Speedway and Williams Grove Speedway.

After that, a Port Royal tune-up will be on tap prior to a big weekend of racing. The three-day Weikert Memorial at Port Royal Speedway, will follow, with Saturday’s finale paying $75,000 to win. With all of the top-level talent coming into town, finding a way to minimize the issues and find consistency in the car, will hopefully start an upward trend for the team and materialize strong results.

Starting the Season with Preparation in Mind: Halligan Looking Forward to More Racing in 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Abbottstown, PA – March 13, 2025

by Derick Kriner / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

As racing starts to kick into full swing in the Central PA region, Jeff Halligan is gearing up for another season of 410 sprint car racing. Early season racing in Pennsylvania comes with many challenges. Weather being the prime reason affecting the ability to race. Being able to spend time on track early in the season is critical to prepare for a long season of racing, as the intensity only ramps up as the season progresses.

Halligan and the 45 team started their race season with two races at the Lincoln Speedway over the past three weeks. Jeff, who primarily now runs at Port Royal, once frequented the ⅜ mile track in Abbottstown in the 358 ranks. “Feels good to get back to Lincoln for a couple races,” stated Halligan. The team does plan to make starts at the track throughout 2025 when the Port Royal schedule doesn’t conflict. So getting to race there allows the team to narrow in on a baseline. “I think we are very close right out of the box early, which is a positive sign.”

The first two races for Jeff brought varying results. The Icebreaker 30 being the stronger of the two. After running in a podium position for the first third of the race and dropping back as far as 8th, Jeff would bring the 45 car across the line in the 6th position. He also picked up a heat win that day, leading every lap of his heat.

Race two, which occurred two weeks later on March 9th, saw some different track conditions and different fortunes for the team. After qualifying for the feature through a 5th place heat finish, the Ephrata native rolled off 15th in the A-Main. By the halfway point, Halligan found himself inside the top 10, but damage sustained shortly after hurt the 45’s chances at advancing. Halligan would manage to finish 14th at the end of the 30-lap feature.

As many teams open up their season and begin to set goals, it seemed appropriate to look inside the mind of the 30-year-old driver to see what his own personal goals are for 2025. “My goal in 2025 is to have the team and myself as prepared as possible for every race.” Jeff went on to mention that “if we do that, the results will take care of themselves.” The team is planning to run the entire Port Royal Speedway schedule throughout 2025.

The past few seasons for Halligan have featured some good runs, and also some not so good runs, which is a part of racing. Being able to eliminate all the factors you can prior to being on track is something that Jeff and team look to do in the 2025 season. “There’s too many to list on things to improve on from last year.” While a set number of wins or top 5’s was not on the list for Halligan, approaching the year with a renewed focus on being prepared will hopefully translate into better results.

Schedule plans for the 45 team feature a trip back to Lincoln Speedway on March 15th and then to Williams Grove on March 16th, pending weather. The team then looks to open up the Port Royal Speedway season the following weekend.

Jeff Halligan Has Eyes Set on 2024, Key Partners Return

Ephrata, PA – March 22, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Jeff Halligan has won at least one race each year since he entered full-time 410 sprint car competition, but the Ephrata, Pennsylvania driver isn’t satisfied with that stat.

Halligan knows his team is capable of more.  They will be searching for more victories with a more consistent production of top-five finishes.

He’s not alone.  New marketing partners, Fleet Reps and J&S Classics have stepped forward for the team’s 2024 campaign, plus long-time supporters have returned.  The common denominator?  They all believe this team is on the cusp of reaching the next level of performance.

BACK FOR MORE

Risser Motorsports has been the foundation for Halligan’s team since 2019, providing the key support and resources that have enabled Jeff to find success.  As the pair enters their 6th season together, they are maturing into one of the most competitive teams in Central Pennsylvania.

TheTreeCenter.com will once again adorn the top wing of the Risser Motorsports No.45.  TheTreeCenter.com is the new way to shop for your landscape!  You can choose from hundreds of varieties of trees and shrubs not available at your local nursery – all from the comfort of your couch.  Skip the trip and plan your landscape like it’s 2024!  And they ship crazy fast.  So sit back, relax, have a cocktail, and wait for your landscape to arrive via FedEx Ground.  Almost everything about this can be done in your pajamas.  TheTreeCenter.com does everything except plant the tree!  With decades of combined knowledge, they provide you with the resources for your landscape to thrive!

EMM Sales and Service is also back with Halligan once again.  EMM Sales and Service offers the agricultural industry’s best trailers for feed and livestock transportation!  If you’re looking for an established East Coast trailer dealer that offers an extensive inventory of new and used trailers for sale, along with a service department for all your repair and maintenance needs, then look no further than the professionals at EMM Sales & Service.  They have been selling and servicing agribusiness trailers for over 50 years and have built a reputation as the go-to trailer dealer that countless customers have come to know. Jake’s Custom Golf Carts will continue their long-time backing of Halligan and the Risser Motorsports team as well.  Jake’s Golf Carts is Pennsylvania’s premiere Club Car Authorized Dealer. Jake’s stocks and services hundreds of carts and personal vehicles for your personal and commercial needs and are manufactured by the biggest, best, and most reliable name in the industry.  Jake’s is a small-town company with a nationwide reach!  Jake’s Golf Carts is located in McVeytown, Pennsylvania. But they have happy customers across the country.  Jake’s offers Carts, Lift Kits, Wheels & Tires, and Accessories, not to mention sales, service, and rentals.

Jim Haller’s Maple Syrup returns as well.  Their locally made, pure maple syrup is produced by hand, on a wood-fired arch, in small batches to ensure the quality and taste is the best they can offer.  No additives, preservatives, or RO technology are used.  They tap their trees and collect the sap in buckets by hand to carefully create maple syrup the old-fashioned way!

In addition to all of these fine partners, Halligan will continue to receive support from other businesses and product sponsors.  Keystone Ag Spraying, HighDef Suspension, Newlin Bar Service, Alloy Wheel Repair, AL Driveline, Panther Frameworx, Scheaffer’s Racing Oil, Roach Wings, and HP Engines all will continue with the team in 2024!

THE PLAN

Since the 2023 season wrapped up, Halligan and his team have spent a lot of time and energy in the shop.  There haven’t been big changes, just fine-tuning the equipment on hand.

“The off-season went fast.  The team worked hard all winter to improve what we have.”, Halligan shared.

“We have been good.  We know we aren’t far off.  We felt we could improve by putting some effort into the small things and by making sure our stuff is fresh.  We believe that will help make us more consistent week in and week out.”

Halligan and the team have decided to focus on Port Royal Speedway in 2024.  While the door is open to potentially adding a few more races, it won’t be many if they do.

“Our goal is to be extremely consistent night in and night out and to contend for wins every time we hit the track.”, Halligan stated.

‘The Speed Palace’ has several very lucrative potential paydays on the schedule this season, so the team’s goal could pay off in a big way.  A marquee event victory is high on the team’s to-do list.

Halligan will kick off his 2024 season at Port Royal Speedway at their sprint car opener on Saturday, March 23rd.

Partnership opportunities are available for the 2024 season.

Halligan Strengthens Team with Support from Highly Respected, Long-Time Racing Community Supporter, J&S Classics

Ephrata, PA – March 1, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Original Photo Credit:  Derick Kriner Photography

Jeff Halligan Racing and Risser Motorsports are honored to welcome long-time sprint car racing supporter, J&S Classics, to their family.

The late Jim Kline, who recently passed away after a battle with brain cancer, and his wife Sandy are highly respected members of the racing community in Central Pennsylvania and beyond for many years.  The pair owned a very successful sprint car team for some time, then moved on to support tracks, events, and drivers in many ways over the years.

In 2024, the familiar J&S Classics logo will tour Central Pennsylvania speedways on the wing of Jeff Halligan’s No.45.

STREET RODS TO SPRINT CARS

The Kline’s created J & S Fabrication in 1990.  Sandy shared that their goal when they started J&S Fabrication was to own a sprint car team.  They accomplished that goal in 2001 with their son Dean in the seat.

The Klines owned their famed No. 22 sprint car for a decade, campaigning regularly across Central Pennsylvania from 2001 through the 2010 season.  Successful drivers such as Darren Eash, Kenny Jacobs, Jason Johnson, Fred Rahmer, and the late Greg Hodnett graced their seat, recording numerous championships and victories.  One of the most memorable was the 2009 National Open at Williams Grove Speedway with Hodnett at the wheel.

J & S Classics was born from Jim’s love of custom street rod cars.  Jim started out building cars just for himself but eventually, it grew into the business we know today.  Through J&S Classics, Jim and Sandy have continued their support of motorsports for many years.

“Our entire team is grateful for the support of Jim and Sandy.  Jim was a great man.  Sandy and her family are in our thoughts and prayers as they mourn their tragic loss.”, Jeff Halligan shared.

The additional support is a nice boost for Halligan’s program with Risser Motorsports.  The combination has been racing 410 sprint cars together for four full seasons now and has garnered at least one victory in each of those seasons at Port Royal Speedway.

Halligan Dominates, Finds Victory Lane at Port Royal

Open Wheel Madness Up Next Saturday at Port Royal

Port Royal, PA – June 12, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Jeff Halligan has been to victory lane at Port Royal Speedway at least once each season since 2020 but so far this year it had eluded him.

His best finish at ‘The Speed Palace’ in 2023 was 3rd back on May 6th and last week was his worst finish (20th) when his night ended with a hard crash after being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Halligan and the Risser Motorsports team have been working hard to get back to victory lane and Saturday night they flexed their muscle a little.

  • Date:  June 10, 2023
  • TrackPort Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  27 cars, Heat 3rd (6), A-main 1st (6)

Making the Cut

Halligan and the Risser Motorsports, TheTreeCenter.com, Victory Auto of Lewistown, EMM Sales & Service, Jake’s Golf Carts, Pine Hill Trailers, Keystone Ag Spraying No.45 were among the field of 27 teams signed in at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night, June 10th.  Three heats would each transfer the top six finishers to the main event but only the top three would be handicapped to the front of the starting lineup for the finale.

From his starting spot on the outside of row three in his heat race, Halligan went to the cushion in turns one and two to drive into 4th, then used the momentum to dive low in turn three to take 3rd.  He would go on to finish there and make the cut for a handicap spot.

Making a Statement

Just like earlier in the night, Halligan rolled to the green from the outside of row three.  This time it would be 25 laps and $5,000 to the winner.

Once again Halligan got off to a quick start, this time using the middle to move into 4th on the opening lap, then 3rd on lap two.

On lap three Halligan dove under Michael Walter in turn three and slid up into the runner-up spot.  He then began his pursuit of leader Lucas Wolfe.

Halligan entered turn one higher on lap five and cut low off turn two.  The diamond move produced a big run, which the Ephrata, PA native used to drive under Wolfe entering turn three and take the top spot.

Halligan quickly put several car lengths between himself and Wolfe.  He reached lapped traffic on lap nine but navigated it smoothly and continued to build his lead.  At the halfway mark, he held a straightaway advantage.

The first caution of the event appeared with six laps remaining.  On the ensuing restart, Halligan used the middle and low side of the speedway to put five car lengths between himself and Wolfe by the time the pair reached the middle of the backstretch.   He continued his torrid pace and won the race going away.

I told (crew chief) Kyle (Defibaugh) that was the easiest win I’ve ever had in any division I have raced.  That car was a dream to drive.“, Halligan said in victory lane.

The track was a lot like Weikert weekend.  We were really close then, so went off that.  We nailed it this time; we were good in dirty air; we were good everywhere“.

Halligan’s No.45 certainly was on point Saturday night.  When the caution appeared with six laps remaining, he had a 5.3 second lead and when racing resumed, he amassed a 4 second advantage over the final six circuits.

This is a brand new HP engine.  First night out for it.  We decided to break it out and get it ready for Speedweek.  It’s a different car than last week too.  That one was junk.  We are running Panther Chassis and Shawn is here tonight, so it’s cool to have him here for a win.”, Halligan continued.

We weren’t very good earlier tonight but Kyle and the team went to work on it and they had it perfect.  I wasn’t worried at all on the restart.  The car was so good I just thought, let’s finish this off.“, Halligan shared.

I want to thank Brent and Debbie Risser, Jake’s Carts and Victory Auto for starters.  We could not do this without them.  Thanks to TheTreeCenter.com, EMM Sales and Service, Panther Frameworx, Pine Hill Trailers, Keystone Ag Spraying, RV 4-Wheel Drive, Newlin Bar Service, Jim Haller’s Maple Syrup, Alloy Wheel Repair and all our partners.  Zach (Newlin) and Jim (Haller) are here tonight too, so it’s great to win with so many of these folks in attendance.  Thanks to my crew.  This is on them.  This is their win.

Halligan Produces Pair of Top Ten Finishes at Weikert Memorial with All Stars

Hodnett Foundation Race at BAPS Thursday, Back to Port Royal Saturday

Port Royal, PA – May 31, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Jeff Halligan has been very consistent over the past month.  His last four non-sanctioned races occurred at four different Pennsylvania tracks and all resulted in top ten finishes.

The arrival of the All Star Circuit of Champions at Port Royal Speedway for the annual, lucrative two-day Bob Weikert Memorial was the measuring stick the team had been preparing for.

  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA

  • Event:  Bob Weikert Memorial – Finale / All Star Circuit of Champions
  • TrackPort Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  40 cars, Qualifying 13th, Heat 7th (5), A-main 8th (17)

So Close Saturday

Halligan got his Saturday night off to a solid start by laying down a lap of 17.630, which was 14th quickest in the stout field of forty cars.

He backed that effort up by driving from 5th to 3rd in a very intense 10-lap heat race in his Risser Motorsports, TheTreeCenter.com, Victory Auto of Lewistown, EMM Sales & Service, Jake’s Golf Carts, Pine Hill Trailers, Keystone Ag Spraying No.45.

The combined qualifying effort put Halligan 12th in the accumulated points being used to lock the top twenty cars into the A-main.

Halligan converted that outside sixth row starting spot into a 7th place finish in a steady, workmanlike effort that saw him pick up a position about every five laps.

We timed well and we went forward every time we hit the track, so I’m pretty happy with our night.  Just a couple hundredths quicker in qualifying could have really set us up nicely but we had a good night.”, Halligan shared.

Bounce Back Sunday

Right out of the gate on Sunday it looked like Halligan was going to pick up where he left off the night before.  With 40 cars signed in once again, he improved his qualifying result slightly with a 13th best overall lap.

Once again it put the Ephrata, PA native inside the third row for his heat race but that’s where the similarities ended.  Instead of moving forward to make the most of the passing points system, Halligan was fighting just to hold his ground.  By the end of the 10-lap affair, he found himself in 7th.

When all qualifying points were tallied, it was still good enough to lock into the Bob Weikert Memorial finale but he would have a steeper hill to climb.

Halligan started the 29-lap A-main in the 17th position.  At the halfway point progress was slim.  He had only gained two spots.

Following a lap seventeen caution, Halligan restarted 14th.  The Risser Motorsports No.45 started to come alive.  Jeff cracked the top ten on lap twenty and continued to chip away, using a last lap pass to take possession of 8th at the finish line.

Tonight was a good rebound.  It was a good run for us in the feature after going backwards a little in the heat race.  I’m proud of this team.  You have to work for everything you get in this sport and they show that kind of fight night after night.“, Halligan shared.

Up Next

Halligan and the Risser Motorsports team will be on hand at BAPS Motor Speedway Thursday, June 1st for the Greg Hodnett Foundation Race.

A return to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday, June 3rd will round out the race weekend.

Season Stats

14 races, 0 wins, 4 top 5’s, 8 top 10’s, 11 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to last week’s trivia question is Jeff Halligan won his first 410 sprint car race in 2019 at Lincoln Speedway!

Now, on to this week’s question.  What year did Jeff start racing and what did he race?

Halligan on the Podium at Port Royal to Back Up Top-5 at Grove

Clash with the Outlaws Set for Wednesday at Lincoln

Port Royal, PA – May 8, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Jeff Halligan has been fast this year but yet has had an up and down first two months of his 2023 season in the Risser Motorsports, TheTreeCenter.com, Victory Auto of Lewistown, EMM Sales & Service, Jake’s Golf Carts, Pine Hill Trailers, Keystone Ag Spraying No.45.

After coming out of the gate with two quick top five finishes, the team went through a two week stretch where they couldn’t crack the top ten.  That is history now.  Over the past two weeks they have found their groove again, maybe even a better groove than before.

  • Date:  5/5/23
  • Event:  Outlaw Tune-Up
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  25 cars, Qualifying 1st, Heat 2nd (1), Dash 3rd (4), A-main 4th (3)

  • Date:  5/6/23
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  32 cars, Heat 2nd (8),  A-main 3rd (4)

Quick Time!

Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway was all about final preparation for the upcoming heavyweight bout with the World of Outlaws.  Even the format was identical to what teams will experience when the touring series arrives.

Halligan served notice early he was as ready as he could be when he went out 16th of 25 cars and promptly ripped the fastest lap of the night, earning his first career fast time award.

The Ephrata, PA driver went on to claim the runner up spot in his heat race, earning a spot in the Dash that would set the top six starting spots in the main event.  Halligan started 4th in the Dash by virtue of a random pill draw and he was able to move forward for a 3rd place finish.

From his starting spot inside row two, Halligan settled into the 4th position early on in the 25-lap feature and held a firm grasp on the spot until a mid-race incident slowed the field.

Taking advantage of the lap 13 restart, Halligan claimed the 3rd spot hoping to make a second half run to the front.  It never materialized and he ended the night with a 4th place finish.

Powering Forward

It was a similar story Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway.  Halligan turned heads early by blasting from his 8th starting spot in the second heat race to the 2nd spot by lap four without the aid of a caution.  He nearly tracked down race-long leader Ryan Smith but finished 2nd just 0.3 seconds behind.

The heat race charge put Halligan into a handicapped starting spot for the feature event.  He took the green for the 25-lap A-main from outside the second row.

Halligan slipped one position on the opening lap but then surged forward to claim the 3rd spot by the end of the second circuit.  The battle among positions three through six was close and intense.

By the end of the third trip around the big fairgrounds half-mile, Halligan found himself 6th.  He held that spot for the next ten laps, finding his rhythm and letting the car and track come to him.

On lap sixteen business really started to pick up as Halligan reeled in the 4th spot, then turned his fastest lap of the race the next time around.  He continued to get quicker, wrestling the 3rd spot away from Steve Buckwalter on lap 22.  He held on to record his first podium finish of the season at ‘The Speed Palace’.

I think we have a good overall balance right now. Our team can now focus on fine tuning the car and I can focus on fine tuning my driving.”, Halligan shared.

The stats back up Halligan’s words.  The team has clicked off three straight finishes of 6th or better, not to mention the fast time award at Williams Grove.

Our team is looking forward to racing against the top teams in the country & PA this week and looking forward to getting into a groove running more races.“, Halligan commented.

Up Next

Jeff and the Risser Motorsports team will roll into Lincoln Speedway Wednesday night, May 10th to take on the World of Outlaws in the Gettysburg Clash.

Current plans are for the team to also compete in the Morgan Cup against the World of Outlaws on Saturday night, May 14th at Williams Grove Speedway.

Season Stats

10 races, 0 wins, 4 top 5’s, 5 top 10’s, 8 top 15’s

Halligan Convincing Out of the Gate; Brings Home Top 5

Team Preparing for Early Season Outlaw Invasion of Pennsylvania

Port Royal, PA – March 8, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Jeff Halligan was convincing, to say the least, right out of the gate at Port Royal Speedway on Sunday, driving around and away from pole-sitter Dylan Cisney.  He held that advantage until he could nearly smell the checkered flag, then things got complicated.

  • Date:  3/5/23
  • Event:  Opening Day
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 3rd (4), A-main 5th (2)

Early Action

Halligan and the Risser Motorsports, TheTreeCenter.com, Victory Auto of Lewistown, EMM Sales & Service, Jake’s Golf Carts, Pine Hill Trailers, Keystone Ag Spraying No.45 rolled into Port Royal Speedway Sunday afternoon to kick off another season at a track where they have had success in recent years.  The team captured two victories and finished third in the championship point standings in 2022.

With 29 teams signed in for action on the sunny Central Pennsylvania day, the format called for three 10-lap heat races.  The top six from each would transfer directly to the feature event, but only the top three would be included in the invert redraw.

Halligan started outside the second row in heat race number two.  It took a couple laps to get rolling but the Ephrata, PA driver then powered his way into 3rd and went to work for more.  A late caution looked like it would give Halligan an opportunity to claim another spot, but it wasn’t to be.  He finished 3rd at the line.

The Day's Finale

The invert redraw, which flips either the top 3, 6, 9 or 12 in the starting lineup, worked to Halligan’s advantage.  The invert put him outside the front row, alongside Dylan Cisney to start the 25-lap, $5,000 to win A-main.

Halligan wasted no time taking advantage of the high side of the speedway with his well-handling race car.  He drove into turn one practically ‘door to door’ with Cisney but powered around the top and drove off turn two with the advantage.

Twice in the first half of the race cautions appeared to work in Halligan’s favor.  As he stretched his lead and closed on lapped traffic, the caution lights flashed on, resetting the field and giving Halligan a clear track.

In the later stages of the race, Halligan finally did reach lapped traffic.  He held his own, making timely moves and keeping second place Parker Price-Miller at bay by a few car lengths.  With six laps to go, Price-Miller finally pulled alongside Halligan’s No.45 but he couldn’t get by.

With three laps remaining and the top five getting tighter as the leaders navigated traffic, things changed.  A split-second decision took away Halligan’s momentum and the lead slipped away.  By the time Halligan got back the momentum he had lost, he had slipped a few more spots and he crossed the line in 5th.

I should’ve won.“, a straight to the point Halligan said after the race.

That was definitely a learning moment for me.  I will move on and get better from it, but it’s still tough to lose one that way.

Recapping the series of events, Halligan zeroed in on the moment when he entered turn one and chose to go low to avoid a string of lapped cars that were occupying the high line, right where he had been ‘making hay’ all day.

“Go where they aren’t” seemed to be the right thing to do.  Halligan quickly realized it was the wrong choice.  He exited turn two with the lead momentarily, but he had lost momentum and Price-Miller shot by.  Meanwhile, Dylan Cisney closed on the pair and sailed high into turn three as the top two dove to the bottom.  The move left Halligan in third with two laps remaining.

Just over a lap earlier, Halligan dove low into turn three to take away the momentum Parker Price-Miller was building up.  He, and many in attendance, thought that was the move that sealed the win at the time.

The car was really good.  That’s what I’ll take away from today.  That and I will get up on the wheel a little more next time probably.“, a still smiling Halligan said.

Season Plans

Halligan’s 2023 schedule will resemble last year.  The team’s home will be Port Royal Speedway and their primary goal will be chasing wins and a possible points championship at the fairgrounds half-mile known as ‘The Speed Palace’.

In addition, the team will hit a mix of bigger events in the Central Pennsylvania region.  Most of those dates will be determined week by week, closer to the race dates.  Stay tuned to Halligan’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.

Up Next

Halligan and the Risser Motorsports team will return to Port Royal Speedway to take on the World of Outlaws on Friday, March 10th at 7pm and Saturday, March 11th at 4pm.  Both nights offer a tidy $10,000 to the winner.

Season Stats

1 races, 0 wins, 1 top 5’s, 1 top 10’s, 1 top 15’s

It was finally the weekend Jeff Halligan had been waiting for, and preparing for, all season.  It was Tuscarora 50 weekend at Port Royal Speedway.  Every lap he had made this season and every wrench the crew turned was for the end goal of having a shot at the big pot of gold at the end of the Tuscarora 50 rainbow.

They certainly seemed to be doing the right things and be on track to have a legitimate shot.  Halligan sat third in the speedway’s championship season point standings and had two victories to his name in 2022.

September 8:  Port Royal Speedway / Port Royal, PA

     [49 cars, Qualifying 2nd in Group E, Heat 1st (1), Dash 7th (6), A-main 27th (7)]

Opening night of the three day event saw 49 teams register for the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) sanctioned show, triggering the five group/five heat format for the series.

Halligan laid down the 2nd best lap in the fifth and final qualifying group, giving him the pole for the heat race, alongside Brian Brown.  Jeff used the low line off turn four at the drop of the green to beat Brown to turn one.  Using the high side, he wound up his No.45, beating the Missouri driver off turn two and he never looked back.  He went on to win heat race number five by 1.832 seconds.

The heat win put Halligan in the dash, assuring him of a top ten starting spot in the $6,000 to win main event.  The Ephrata, PA driver pulled the number six pill in the redraw, putting him outside row three for the 6-lap race.

Halligan held the 6th spot until the final lap when a large lump of clay impacted the front end of his machine, crushing the radiator and oil tank, breaking lines in the process.  With smoke trailing off the left side headers, he managed to get to the finish line but slipped back to 7th.

The Risser Motorsports crew went to work immediately upon Halligan’s return pit-side.  Dislodging the clay and crumpled sheet metal was a chore on its own.  Once those were out of the way, the damage to lines and connections for the oil tank and radiator was determined to be extensive enough that an engine change was necessary.

In the short window of time between the dash and the A-main, the team managed to pull the motor and prepare its replacement but ran out of time to drop it between the rails of Halligan’s Panther Chassis.

Instead of taking the green for the 30-lap A-main from his rightful 7th spot, Halligan borrowed the 77k of BK Motorsports and dropped to the rear of the field per the rules.  He took the green, then pulled off the racing surface, officially credited with a 27th place finish.

It was an unlucky and disappointing end to a night that had the makings of a top ten, or possibly top five run.

September 9:  The Night Before the 50 / Port Royal Speedway / Port Royal, PA

     [52 cars, Qualifying 3rd in Group A, Heat 11th (2)]

Friday’s car count grew to 52 for the $8,000 to win ‘Night Before the 50’ show.  The five group/five heat format was once again in play.

Halligan’s night started off once again on a positive note when he logged the 3rd quickest lap in Group A.  The lap placed him on the outside front row of the first heat race.

When the green flag dropped on the start of the heat race at the chalk line in turn four, Halligan’s mount stumbled slightly before it reached full song.  It was enough to drop him to 4th by the end of lap one.

Halligan battled to recover the lost ground but was still sitting 4th with two laps remaining when disaster struck.  He made contact with the outside wall between turns one and two.  The resulting damage to the rear of the car was severe.   The team went to work removing the destroyed axle and suspension parts.  As they prepared to install a new rear end, frame damage was discovered that meant the Risser Motorsports / TheTreeCenter.com / Victory Auto of Lewistown / EMM Sales & Service / Jake’s Golf Carts / Pine Hill Trailers / Keystone Ag SprayingNo.45 was done for night.

September 10:  55th Annual Tuscarora 50 / Port Royal Speedway / Port Royal, PA

     [55 cars, Qualifying 19th in Flight B, Heat 5th (7), B-main 5th (12), Non-Qualifiers Feature 2nd (1)]

Saturday’s program leveraged its own unique format (details below) to determine who got a piece of the lucrative pie known as the 55th Annual Tuscarora 50.  The largest piece, the winner’s share, grew from its original $55,000 to $60,000 just hours before the finale thanks to a generous sponsor.

After spending a long night and morning preparing their second car for the task, Jeff Halligan and the Risser Motorsports team were ready to compete along with 54 other teams.

Halligan’s pill draw placed him next to last in the Flight 2 qualifying order.  He ended his run ranked 19th of the 27 cars in the group.

From his 7th starting spot in the 8-lap heat race, from which only the top three would transfer directly to the 50-lap A-main, Halligan had his work cut out for him.  He managed to grab 6th on the opening lap, then reached 5th with two laps remaining, but that was where the climb ended.

Rolling to the green flag for the 12-lap B-main from the 12th spot, Halligan once again had a tall order in front of him.  Only the top four finishers would make the field for the prestigious Tuscarora 50.

Halligan nearly pulled it off.  Charging his way through the field, he claimed the 5th spot on the final lap, but crossed the line one spot short of the goal.  It was a valiant effort but a bitter disappointment for the team that had achieved so much success at Port Royal Speedway thus far in 2022.

There was some good news.  For the 20th year in a row, the family and friends of the late Will Gamble of Port Royal presented the Will Gamble Determination Award.  Jeff Halligan was the recipient of this year’s $500 award.

The final event of the evening provided Halligan with another unique opportunity.  The 20-lap non-qualifiers feature not only offered $2,000 to the winner, it guaranteed them a starting spot in next year’s Tuscarora 50 which also carried a minimum $2,000 prize.

Halligan started on the pole of the non-qualifier’s feature but fell to 2nd on the opening lap.  He chased down race-long leader Sye Lynch on lap ten and wrestled the lead away.  Halligan’s car seemed to be much better on the long runs that it was on the start.

A late caution set up a short two lap sprint to the finish.  Halligan held off Lynch to the white flag, but the No.42 was building momentum and challenged for the lead on the final lap.  He managed to slip by, winning by just 0.683 seconds over Halligan.

At least this time the car was in one piece, but much like the rest of the weekend, the result fell short of the potential.

Weekend Wrap-up

That three days felt like three weeks.“, a mentally and physically exhausted Halligan said.

Everyone worked so hard all weekend to try keep us going.  I owe a lot to everyone who has helped me, not only this weekend but all season long.  Thank you, Kyle Defibaugh, Jeff Defibaugh, John Simmons, Brian Mullen, Brent Risser and Roger Duttry.”

Halligan added, “We also want to give a huge shout out to Tom and Fran Chiappelli for lending us a motor from their Golden Flavor Sesame Sticks team to run Saturday.  They are super people, and we truly appreciate what they did for us.”

Last year we crashed on Thursday night and that was the end of our Tuscarora 50 attempt.  We worked hard all year to build our program depth and be better prepared for the big shows.  Even if nothing goes wrong, it’s not easy to run three straight days.  When you have a weekend like we did, it’s really tough.  It didn’t go how we envisioned, but we made it all the way through the weekend and we’re proud of that, as well as everything we have accomplished this season.  We’re going the right direction with our program.”

Up Next

Tentatively Halligan and the Risser Motorsports team will be in action Saturday night with the All Star Circuit of Champions at the Dirt Classic IX at Lincoln Speedway, however they will make a final decision later this week.

Port Royal Speedway will remain the primary focus for Halligan for the balance of 2022.  The team will compete there with the World of Outlaws on October 7th & 8th, then again on October 14th as part of the Short Track Super Series Modified event.
