Trever Feathers Rallies Late at Hagerstown’s Steel Block Clash

Hagerstown, MD – June 25, 2024

Trever Feathers opted to dust off his limited late model this past weekend and take it to Hagerstown Speedway where he had captured a win with that car earlier this season.

Feathers has been supporting the Steel Block Clash series every chance he has gotten this year and Saturday’s $3,000-to-win installment was no different.

  • Stats:  33 cars, Group A Qualifying 5th, Heat 5th (3), A-main 6th (17)

EVERY POSITION MATTERS

Feathers got his night off on the right foot with the 5th quickest lap in Group A qualifying, putting his Team Zero Race Cars, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.27 on the inside of row two for his heat race.

After some close-quarters racing for most of the opening lap of the heat race, Feathers took sole possession of 3rd place at the line.  Devin Hart challenged the Winchester, VA native for the spot, with the two swapping positions a couple times over the next two laps.  The battle allowed Kyle Lear to slip into 3rd just before a caution appeared with four laps remaining.

On the ensuing restart, Feathers moved into 4th before another exchange with Hart left him in 5th at the finish.  It was good enough to transfer to the A-main but it meant he would take the green from 17th instead of potentially as high as 9th had he been able to secure 3rd in the heat.

In the 30-lap feature, which clicked up without a caution in just over eleven minutes, Feathers put on a passing clinic.  With no breaks and no help to bunch the field, he worked his way methodically past another car about every 2.5 laps.

At the finish, Feathers had passed 11 cars for a 6th-place finish.

“This car really likes Hagerstown.”, Feathers said.  “We timed really well but even though we were fast, we didn’t get the finish we should have in the heat race, which would have put us in a better position to compete for at least a podium finish tonight.  I’ll just leave it at that.”

UP NEXT

Feathers will climb back behind the wheel of his No.20 super late model this week for two events.  Thursday, June 27th he will journey to Georgetown Speedway in Delaware.

Saturday night Feathers will have a much shorter trip to Winchester Speedway, just a few miles from his race shop in Virginia for the event that honors his great uncle, the Jimmy Spence Memorial.

Feathers Shines Early, Struggles in Final Stages at Lincoln

Abbottstown, PA – June 17, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Garry Ferguson / WRT Speedwerx

The last time Trever Feathers visited Lincoln Speedway he ended the night standing in victory lane.  That was in October 2023 while Feathers was in the midst of a hot streak in his Team Zero Race Cars, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.20 super late model.

Since then Feathers has been trying to get the car dialed back in to the same level of comfort and performance he was demonstrating during that stretch.  What better place to do it than the site of your last dominating performance?

  • Stats:  34 cars, Group 1 Qualifying 5th, Heat 1st (1), A-main 14th (9th)

GETTING CLOSER

Feathers kicked off the night with the 5th quickest lap in group one qualifying, positioning himself in the top tier of the 34 cars on hand.

Having earned the pole for his heat race, Feathers took full advantage of the opportunity and dominated his heat race, taking the win by a margin of nearly 2.5 seconds over the runner up.

It appeared Feathers was back in his comfort zone and ready to put the challenges of the recent weeks behind him.  He started 9th in the 35-lap feature event and raced inside the top ten through the first ten laps.

As the race neared the midpoint, Feathers lost some ground to the front-runners and slid back to 12th.  Two more positions were lost over the final dozen laps, putting the Winchester, VA native 14th in the final rundown.

It was a disappointing result for Feathers and the team after an impressive start to the night but overall, it was a positive night for Feathers and his team.

“We just flat-out missed it (the setup) for the feature.”, Feathers said.  “The car was really good all night.  We had a better car than our results show.”

“The track was different than when we were here in October.  We didn’t have 410’s (sprint cars) here that night, so I’m sure that has something to do with it.  The surface was dirtier tonight.”

“There are definitely some positives to take away tonight.  We had been fighting a front-end/steering issue most of this season but we finally got that under control.  We probably over-compensated for that in our feature setup and we shouldn’t have.”

Feathers changed his original plans and opted to skip the series finale at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday.  That decision was based solely on how hard the team had worked over the previous week and a half.  Long hours in the shop, a Wednesday test session at BAPS Motor Speedway, and three races, all in the span of eight days were enough to warrant a break so everyone on the team could enjoy their Father’s Day.

Feathers will return to Port Royal Speedway this Saturday, June 22nd.

Berry Determined to Bounce Back After Early Speedweek Struggles

Spring Run, PA – June 12, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Austin Berry entered Appalachian Mountain Speedweek aiming to improve on his 11th-place finish in the 2023 series standings.  He and his team put in a lot of work during the offseason to freshen their equipment and improve their motor program to take the next step in their progression.

Berry got a late start on his 2024 campaign after parts delays kept the team’s engine on the sidelines longer than expected.  As a result, he entered Speedweek with only three races under his belt.  In those three starts, he showed speed but had mixed results.

THE OPENING PAIR

Berry kicked off the series Friday night with a return to the scene of his best run in last year’s edition.  He posted a podium finish in the 2023 event at Clinton County Speedway in Mill Hall, PA, and was looking to get a strong start again this year.

Although he didn’t come out of the gate with a qualifying run that put him in the dash like the previous year, his 12th-quickest lap was good enough to put him in contention.  He started 5th in his heat race but couldn’t climb into a top-three transfer spot.

From inside row two in the B-main, Berry grabbed the runner-up spot at the drop of the green, then took command of the race at the halfway mark of the 10-lap affair.  The win put the Mifflin, PA native 19th on the A-main grid, which he converted into a 15th-place finish.

“We weren’t bad tonight but we were fighting a right front brake issue all night.  The caliper was hanging up and that was definitely limiting my options behind the wheel.”, Berry shared.

Saturday night the series rolled into Port Royal Speedway, Berry’s home track.  With a large, high-quality field of 45 cars on hand, he turned in the 7th-best lap in Group B qualifying, which put him on the front row of his heat race.

Berry transferred through his heat with a 3rd place finish but couldn’t mount any forward charge in the feature, officially finishing 19th in the 35-lap main event.

“We weren’t very good tonight.  We looked better than we were early on.  I think our experience here (at Port Royal) helped us qualify well and get through the heat.”, Berry commented.

NEW HOPE

Night three at Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland on Sunday was a night Berry was just as soon forget.  Rather than serving as a turning point, it only elevated the level of frustration in the ABR camp.

“Not a lot I can say about tonight.  The car was bad and so was the driver.”, Berry said.

After qualifying 14th in his group, finishing 7th in his heat, and not transferring through the B-main, Berry and his team loaded up and headed home right away to get started on going over the car and preparing for Path Valley Speedway Park on Tuesday.  The day off on Monday would give them an opportunity to regroup.

When the team unloaded for Tuesday’s show, quite a few changes had been made to the Tuscarora Restoration, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance / Stock Car Steel & Aluminum, VP Racing Fuels, Carquest of State College No.86.

After posting good lap times in hot laps, Berry’s qualifying run came up short of expectations when he landed 12th in the rundown for group A.

“I was really confused when the car got really tight in qualifying because it was good in hot laps and we had not changed anything.  When I got back to our pit we discovered the right rear tire was almost completely flat.  I ran over something in staging and cut the sidewall just before I started my time trial run.”, Berry explained.

From outside row two in his heat, Berry got into the 3rd and final transfer spot at the drop of the green and held it to the halfway point, but late in the race slipped to 4th and was relegated to the B-main.

Berry started on the pole of the 10-lap B-main and never looked back, winning over Drake Troutman and Kyle Hardy to put his Rocket Chassis in the show.

After starting 19th in the 35-lap feature, Berry slipped back as far as 21st before rebounding and charging forward to 14th on lap nine.  The second half of the race was more of a struggle when the right front brake issue surfaced again.  He finished 17th.

“After Hagerstown, we went over everything, talked with the folks at Rocket Chassis and with Jim at JDS Racing.  We determined some of the changes we made over the offseason were working against us, so we put some of those things back to how they were last year.”, Berry shared.

“It helped.  We were a lot better at Path Valley.  Only racing three times before Speedweek has hurt us.  If we had raced more we would have figured these things out sooner.”

“We have made tremendous gains in the handful of races we have run.  We expected to be better, but the good news is we know what our issues have been and we can work on them to get to where we should be.”

Berry has the equipment to do the job.  Facing tough fields with limited laps this year is part of the reality of the challenge they face, but they are battling through that.

“I want to give a shout-out to Tom Barron and Barron’s Racing Engines.  It’s no secret that our powerplants have been a pain point for us in recent years, sidelining us with a series of issues, so after last season we started working with Tom.  He has got our engine program on the right track.  We appreciate that, especially after what we have gone through the past few years.”, Berry said.

“We are hitting the reset as we head to Selinsgrove to start the second half of Speedweek.  It’s one of my better tracks, so it will be a good gauge of where we are.  We are looking to get some confidence back.”

UP NEXT

Four races remain on the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek schedule and Berry intends to enter all of them.  Thursday night the series will roll into Selinsgrove Speedway, then move on to Bedford Speedway, Lincoln Speedway and BAPS Motor Speedway on the next three nights, closing out the series on Sunday night June 16th.

Trever Feathers Rallies for Podium Finish in Backup Car at Hagerstown

Hagerstown, MD – June 11, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jason Walls / WRT Speedwerx

One week ago, Trever Feathers noted that despite some quality runs in his black and blue No.20 Team Zero Chassis, he wasn’t satisfied.  The consistency he had in late 2023 with the same car was missing and he was struggling to dial it in on certain types of surfaces.

It can be a slow and frustrating process for teams to work through the trial and error required to find the root of a handling problem.  Sometimes the schedule allows for that but sometimes it doesn’t, and sometimes it’s an expensive journey until you get to the solution.

The ace up his sleeve was a second Team Zero car, a 2016 chassis the team acquired with the intent to go Limited Late Model racing.  Feathers did that early in the season with the No.27 on the door and he won at Hagerstown Speedway in dominant fashion.

In recent weeks, Feathers opted to bolt a super late model engine into the No.27 and keep it handy as a backup car as he entered Appalachian Mountain Speed Week.

NOT GREAT, NOT BAD

Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, Feathers strapped into his McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.20 super late model and turned in a respectable 11th quickest lap in group one qualifying.

With 45 cars on hand, the qualifying lap put Feathers in a decent position for the night.  From the 4th starting spot in his heat race, he muscled his way to a 3rd place finish to qualify for the finale.

Feathers started deep in the field, 17th to be exact, but churned his way forward to a 12th-place finish.  It was enough to earn Hard Charger.

It wasn’t a bad night but it was short of expectations for the Winchester, VA native when it comes to Port Royal Speedway where he has had considerable success.  There was frustration in the TFR pit.  At that point, the mindset was they would skip Hagerstown and instead get to work in the shop to figure out the issue.

YEAH, THAT'S BETTER

Sunday morning in the shop the team got to work and felt they had identified the source of some of the issues, so Feathers and the team loaded up and headed to Hagerstown, MD for the next stop on the speed week schedule.

Unfortunately, in hot laps Feathers experienced the same issue he has been having for a while.  The feel he was seeking still wasn’t there.

The field of 36 cars was split into two groups for qualifying.  Feathers turned the first of his two laps but the issues were significant enough that he opted to pull in before completing the second lap.  He was scored 12th quickest in group one.

Tense team discussions led to the decision to turn the page.  The team pulled down the No.27 backup car.  They would get back to solving the No.20’s issue on another night when the stakes were not as high.  Shocks and springs were moved from the No.20 to the No.27 to get ready for the heat race.

The swap to the backup car meant Feathers relinquished his 5th starting spot in his heat and he would have to go from the rear (8th).  With only the top three transferring to the main event, his work was cut out for him.

One lap into the heat race, everyone with eyes on the track knew Feathers had made the right choice.  He blasted from 8th to 3rd on the opening lap and never looked back, holding on to the spot to put himself and his team in the show.

Feathers lined up 15th for the 35-lap feature and used the opening laps to let the field sort itself out while he settled into a rhythm.  By lap seven he cracked the top ten.

The charge accelerated from there.  Feathers climbed into the top five on lap ten.  Over the last 25 laps, he battled with the front runners, climbing as high as 3rd and within striking distance of the lead.  Depending how it all unfolded, he had a shot to get to the front.

Ultimately, Feathers finished 3rd, completing an unexpected turnaround from his early challenges.

“Well obviously I’m happy with the result we were able to get tonight after making the swap, but to be honest while I was passing cars I was thinking about what’s wrong with our blue car (the No.20).  That car won three of the last six races it ran in 2023.  I kept telling people I didn’t forget how to drive.”, Feathers said with a grin.

“We built the 27-car using the 20-car as a template, so both Team Zero chassis cars are exactly the same but the 27 just has a much better feel right now.”

“We’ve managed some good results but I honestly haven’t been happy with the 20-car all year.  It’s all about the feel.  It’s a mystery we’re going to solve.  We’re not giving up on it.  We love these Team Zero cars and we are getting better with them.”

UP NEXT

Feathers will tackle two more Appalachian Mountain Speedweek events for super late models this weekend.

The team will travel to Lincoln Speedway in Abbotstown, PA, and BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, PA for the final two events of the series.

The calendar turned to June on Saturday yet for Austin Berry it still felt like the beginning of the 2024 season.  His season started late due to parts delays and there was a mix of good and bad news on his first two race nights.

Appalachian Mountain Speedweek was fast approaching and Berry needed to find a rhythm and find it quick.

A COMPLETE NIGHT

Berry’s pill draw Saturday night put him on the outside front row for his heat race and he took full advantage early on, jumping out to a five-car-length lead by the end of lap one.

Berry endured three restarts before two laps could be completed.  Each caution erased a comfortable lead and bunched the field.  Meanwhile 8th-starting Rick Eckert had a good car as well and was cashing in on the restarts.  He took the lead away before the halfway point and Berry settled for a runner-up finish.

The 25-lap main event saw Berry take the green from outside row six.  He found himself in a heated battle with Gregg Satterlee, Shaun Jones, and others for the majority of the event.

Berry ran 11th in the middle segment of the finale but could not quite crack the top ten.  He eventually closed out the night in 14th.

“I’m happy to get a full night in.  Our season started late, we had troubles the first night out, then we started good at Bridgeport but couldn’t close out the night.”, Berry commented.  “I’m glad we got this run under our belt before we take on Speedweek.”

“It’s not easy here.  The competition is deep.  You have to really be on to move forward here.  No excuses.  We weren’t good enough tonight but our car was good.  It was all about track position and dirty air.  I feel like we were good enough to run near the front if we had started up there.”

UP NEXT

Berry will tackle the entire 8-race slate of Appalachian Mountain Speedweek for super late models beginning this Friday night, June 7th.  The full schedule can be found at AustinBerryRacing.com!

Feathers Strong but Not Satisfied, Striving for More

Port Royal, PA – June 3, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Trever Feathers will tell you he doesn’t feel he has been as good as his stats make it appear.

At the end of the weekend, he had three top-five and five top-ten finishes in six super late model races this season, but the highly-driven Feathers says he and the team are not as fast as they were at the end of 2023 when he clicked off 3 wins in his last ten races of the year.

Feathers has been spending many hours in the shop and venturing to racetracks that have been traditionally challenging for him as part of an effort to find the combination he needs to get back to victory lane.

PASSING CLINIC

Feathers rolled into Georgetown Speedway on Friday night.  The Delaware oval is one of those places that has been a struggle for the Winchester, VA driver.  Friday’s show didn’t reveal the answers Feathers was looking for and he departed frustrated again after a DNF.

“We had a transmission issue but we just weren’t good there again.  We will figure it out.”, a determined Feathers said.

Saturday night Feathers brought the McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.20 super late model back to Port Royal Speedway and he showed speed right out of the gate.

In a nonstop heat race, Feathers drove from 8th to 4th to get in the show but he was one spot short of making the handicap for the feature lineup.

From his 16th starting spot in the 25-lap main event, Feathers steadily worked his way through the field, cracking the top ten at the halfway mark.  He moved into 7th on lap twenty but couldn’t wrestle 6th away from Kyle Lee in the closing laps.  A mere tenth of a second separated the two at the finish.

On the night Feathers passed thirteen cars and zero cars passed him.  He appeared capable of more than a 7th place finish but the format and the breaks don’t always go your way.  Sometimes you need a little luck too.

“That’s the first night in quite a while I didn’t get passed by anyone.  That’s a sign we are making progress.”, Feathers said.

“I think we passed more cars tonight than anyone except Rick (Eckert), so I’m happy about that.  I started in the back of the heat race and went forward but we probably needed a caution to fall our way to give me a chance to get one more spot to get in the handicap.  That would have put us at least two rows closer to the front for the feature, then we would have had a better shot at a podium.”

UP NEXT

Feathers will tackle four of the eight Appalachian Mountain Speedweek events for super late models over the next two weekends.  Saturday, June 8th he will return to Port Royal Speedway (PA), then move south to Hagerstown Speedway (MD) for Sunday night’s show.

The following weekend Feathers plans to head to Lincoln Speedway in Abbotstown, PA, and BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, PA for the final two events of the series.

Berry Sets Quick Time, Dominates Heat Race at Bridgeport Before Setback

Swedesboro, NJ – May 31, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Original Photo Credit:  Bridgeport Motorsports Park

Austin Berry has waited, patiently, for the most part, to hit the track in 2024.  Delays in receiving motor parts and weather have left him unable to satisfy his appetite for speed.

His season debut at Port Royal Speedway a couple of weeks ago didn’t go well.  A series of nuisance issues kept him from being a factor that night.

Knowing he won’t be racing for points at his home track after missing several events, Berry has stepped back and looked at his schedule options.  He is trying to take lemons and make lemonade by rethinking his schedule and giving himself and his team a chance to grow and improve.

How does a racer accomplish that?  They get out of their comfort zone.  They race new tracks and challenge themselves.  Berry will still see plenty of laps at Port Royal Speedway this year but Sunday he took the first step in deploying a new approach by making the three-hour tow to Bridgeport Motorsports Park for their invitational super late model race.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  May 26, 2024

  • Division:  Super Late Models
  • Track:  Bridgeport Motorsports Park
  • City, State:   Swedesboro, NJ
  • Stats:  19 cars, Qualifying 1st, Heat 1st (1), A-main DNF/18th (6)

ON THE CUSP

Berry was one of nineteen drivers to accept the invite to compete Sunday evening at the high-banked 4-tenths mile oval not far across the river from Philadelphia International Airport.

He wasted no time making sure fans took notice.  With names like Covert, Eckert, Frye, Bernheisel, and Yoder in the field, Berry topped them all in qualifying with a blistering lap of 15.460 seconds, nearly two-tenths better than his closest competitor.

It was an impressive effort, especially when you consider Berry has never seen the facility before.  He spent weeks doing homework though.  He watched videos and looked for information about tire wear, doing his best to prepare his equipment and team for the venture.  He clearly passed the initial test.

Berry earned the pole for his 8-lap heat race.  There was never a question.  He drove away from the field and took the checkered flag 1.4 seconds ahead of second place.

The six-car redraw dealt Berry his first minor setback.  He pulled number six.

Berry took the green from outside row three, feeling confident he had plenty to get him to the front over the course of the 40 scheduled laps.  Unfortunately very early on he had lost power steering, which was compounded by a water pump issue that led to overheating, forcing him to the sidelines just a few laps into the main event.  Officially he was recorded as finishing 18th.

“First off, I want to give a huge shout-out to Chris Spotts Welding & Repair for the $300 Quick Time Award.  That’s money that makes a difference, especially for a team like ours.  Just getting here with gas, tolls, tires, and race fuel is expensive, so we needed to make some money.  We really appreciate what Chris did.”, Berry said.

“We didn’t get the finish we deserved but honestly we are all leaving here smiling.  We were fast even though we had never seen this joint before.  That gives us a lot of confidence in what we are doing.  That’s big.  We will carry this into Port Royal next weekend.”

UP NEXT

Berry will return to Port Royal Speedway this Saturday night, June 1st, aiming to erase the disappointment of his debut there a few weeks ago.

Up and Down May Ends with Gains In Speed for Snook

Mifflintown, PA – May 30, 2024

by Derick Kriner / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

After an April full of rain and scattered races for Lane Snook and the Mifflintown-based 23 team, more races occupied the next month. The team got to travel to several different tracks around the Central PA region and got to test out different packages on a wide variety of tracks.

Williams Grove and Port Royal rounded out the month of April. The topless 25-lap feature at Williams Grove turned out to be a bust with Lane retiring from the race after issues just past halfway and winding up 20th. Port Royal brought another challenging night, as a tough heat race buried the 23 car in the feature and netted only a plus-one finish of 15th.

Rain followed the next two weeks and then the young racer was able to take on the Speed Palace once more, finishing with a 6th place run. Speed was building for the team and it showed at their next event at Clinton County Speedway. This was Lane’s first time at the speedway. Being quickest in hot laps, gave the young racer hope for the evening. After salvaging a good run following a heat race incident, Snook was able to pilot the 23 car to a top 10 finish, even after an early race misstep sent him to the tail.

Rain followed the next night at Hagerstown. That left a Sunday night show for the team, to cap off the Memorial Day weekend, at Port Royal. Being a part of the Bob Weikert Memorial, the limited late models and Snook again got to showcase their skills in front of a massive crowd. With Lane rolling off 12th on the grid, his eyes were focused forward and he was able to drive up to 8th, to score his third consecutive top-10 finish. “We definitely made some gains on the car” stated Snook. That progress will hopefully pay off as the month of June ramps up in intensity, as long as Mother Nature cooperates.

With the increased number of races on the horizon, being focused and locked in is important. This is a skill that the now 16-year-old racer makes a priority. “I just try to stay focused and make sure everything is done, and everything on the car is right.” Lane says he’s not one for a particular routine, but these few things help to keep him on track mentally during a race week and during a night of competition.

Another key aspect of any race night is the support and help from sponsors. When asked about some of the relationships that Lane and the team have with sponsors, the young racer highlighted several people who do much more than just provide financial help for the late model team. “We go camping at Eldora with the Ritchey family (Ritchey Sandblasting). One crew guy, Duke (Mexico Ridge Beef Farms) gives us food and helps with other stuff.” Other family members of different sponsors also have a great relationship with the Snook family, including MHT Transport who helps with fuel, and Juniata Beverage, which provides the hydration the team needs after the races. “We all have very good relationships and support each other as much as we can.” This allows the teenage late model driver to remain focused and to also stay loose being surrounded by such close sponsors that have practically become family.

Snook and team would like to again thank all of their sponsors for keeping them on track and getting them prepared for a busy summer. The team looks to start June with a strong run at BAPS Motor Speedway on June 1st. Port Royal will be on the schedule the following weekend, June 8th. With the end of May’s speed, fans should expect to see more highs than lows in June.

Feathers Sees Victory Slip Away at Port Royal on Double-Duty Night

Port Royal, PA – May 21, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit: Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

Trever Feathers has been upfront all season long, regardless of whether he straps into the McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.20 super late model or the No.27 limited late model.

The lone exception was the difficult weekend his last time out at the end of April.  That weekend things just didn’t go very well in either car.

Feathers was back in action with both cars and looking to rebound last weekend at Port Royal Speedway while pulling double-duty.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  May 18, 2024

  • Class:  Super Late Model
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  33 cars, Qualifying 3rd; Heat 2nd (4), A-main 2nd (4)

DATE:  May 18, 2024

  • Class:  Limited Late Model
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  15 cars, Heat 2nd (4), A-main 8th (1)

STEADY STEEL BLOCK

In limited late model division, Feathers was definitely back on track from the start.  He drove from 4th to 2nd in his heat race and earned the pole for the 20-lap main event.

Feathers’ only miss of the night with his No.27 steel block was his feature setup.  He slipped back to an 8th-place finish.

“I missed the setup or feature with this car (the limited).  It was really good in the heat, so I didn’t think it needed much  When you’re running two cars, the super (late model) is the priority, so we worked on that car first.  I probably should have made some adjustments but opted not to.”, Feathers shared.

TWO TURNS AWAY

Feathers’ focus was rightfully on the super late model given there was $5,000 on the line for the winner of the Spring Championship feature.

Time trials were used to qualify the highly competitive 33-car field and set heat race lineups.  Feathers went out late but registered the 3rd quickest lap in the field, a mere 0.081 seconds off quick time.

The inversion put Feathers outside row two for his heat race.  Just past the halfway point of the 8-lap qualifier, he raced his way into the runner-up spot and held on to finish there.

In the 25-lap finale, Feathers once again started outside row two but this time used a bold move into turn one to split the front row starters.  The Winchester, VA native drove up the middle past the flag stand, then moved to the high side of the speedway in turn two to pull even for the lead down the backstretch.

When the field reached the start/finish line to complete the opening lap, it was Feathers leading the way.  He remained at the front of the field for the next twenty circuits, enduring several restarts but managing to keep the competition at bay.

With four laps remaining, the final caution of the event appeared.  On the ensuing restart, Feathers again took command with Dylan Yoder and Colton Flinner battling for second.  Flinner claimed the spot and came after Feathers on the final lap, squeezing alongside and making contact on the low side of turn 3.

When the pair emerged off turn four and came to the line they were nose to tail, with Feathers finishing second.

“The cautions hurt us.  Our American Racer tires fired off great but after all the cautions what we really needed was a long green flag run.”, Feathers commented.

“We had good speed all night.  We timed well and raced well.  Overall I’m happy.  I just don’t race people the way we got raced there on the last lap.  Wanted to come out of here with the win but I’m not going to do it that way.  I probably should have stuck to my line in (turns) one and two, then protected at the other end.”

UP NEXT

Feathers will have a busy Memorial Day Weekend ahead.  Tentatively the team may head to Bedford Speedway Friday, May 24th for the $4,000-to-win Turk Burket Tribute.

Saturday night May 25th Feathers will return to Port Royal Speedway where the super late models will compete alongside the High Limit Sprint Cars on Fallen Heroes Championship Night.

Sunday May 26th will bring a trip to Potomac Speedway in Mechanicsville, MD for the $3,022-to-win Ernie Jones Memorial super late model event.

Trever Feathers has had speed this season regardless of which of his cars he straps into, the McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.20 super late model or No.27 limited late model.

He has a win, top fives, and top tens to his credit thus far.  He has also had some bad luck, like the blown tire while leading a super late model race at Georgetown Speedway last month.

With another super race at Georgetown (DE) and a limited race at Natural Bridge (VA) on the schedule last weekend, the question heading into it was which side of the ledger he would add to.

WELL #$^&!

Going into the weekend, Feathers has recorded finishes of 3rd and 4th in his super late model.  In the limited late model, he had a victory and a top ten.

Unfortunately, the trend didn’t continue at Georgetown Speedway against the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Friday night.  With 40 cars on hand, Feathers had issues in qualifying and turned in a disappointing 17th-best lap in his group.

Things didn’t improve during his heat race.  Feathers dropped out and was recorded as finishing 10th.  His night ended there.

“We sucked tonight.”, Feathers commented.  “Not any other way to say it.”

“The good news is I think we figured something out tonight.  We need to change how we approach this place (Georgetown).  We will find out next time we are back here.”

IF IT WASN'T FOR BAD LUCK...

Saturday night Feathers headed South from his shop in Winchester, VA down Interstate 81 to Natural Bridge Speedway to take on the Still Block Bandits Series with his limited late model.

Feathers put the 5th quickest lap in Group B on the books, a solid start to the night against 31 other teams.  A 3rd place run in his heat race gave him a 10th-place starting spot in the $ 5,000-to-win main event.

At the start of the 50-lap affair, Feathers immediately claimed 8th and held that for nearly twenty laps.  At the halfway mark he had advanced to 6th and was looking to crack the top five.

His engine had other ideas.  Issues with fifteen laps remaining ended the night for Feathers.  He was officially credited with 13th at the conclusion of the race.

“We had a top-five car tonight, maybe a podium.  This Team Zero car has been awesome since we got it.  One of the best-handling cars I have ever had.  It’s tough having issues two races in a row while we were running near the front.”

UP NEXT

Feathers is waiting for word on his limited late model engine before making a final decision about this weekend’s plans.  The options are Hagerstown Speedway with his No.27 limited late model or Port Royal Speedway with his No.20 super late model.
