Heartbreak in Hagerstown: Feathers Had Victory in Sight at Sagi Tribute

Hagerstown, MD – July 30, 2024

After enjoying a weekend off, Trever Feathers and his team returned to action Sunday night at Hagerstown Speedway in the Frank Sagi Tribute.

Feathers piloted a special wrap sporting the throwback 2012 wrap of Jeremy Miller’s No.1m.

In a special moment prior to the night’s action, race promotor Alan Sagi, Feathers and father Bo Feathers surprised Miller with the tribute wrap.

When Feathers finally hit the track, he put a smile on Miller’s face again with a stellar performance right out of the gate.

WAITING FOR SOME LUCK

Feathers set the tone early by ripping off the quickest lap in Group A qualifying with an 18.511 second trip around the half-mile.  It was good enough to place him fastest overall as well.

Dylan Yoder pressured Feathers for the lead during the opening laps of the heat race.  He survived the battle and eventually pulled away by a few car lengths for the win.

From the pole position, Feathers took command of the race at the drop of the green.  On lap six Mason Zeigler wrestled the lead away on lap six but it was short lived when his No.25z suffered a flat tire on lap eight.

With the lead back in hand, Feathers made sure to distance himself enough to prevent any further challenges.  He pulled away and appeared well on his way to victory in the first of the two 20-lap features that make up the Frank Sagi Tribute race.

With just under four laps remaining that all changed quickly.  The drive shaft on Feather’s machine broke in turn three, ending his race.  The failure caused enough collateral damage the Winchester, VA resident was not able to make repairs to return for the second feature either.

“First off I’d like to say thank you to Alan Sagi for everything he does for racing in general but also for the Frank Sagi tribute race. He does so much for the event and for racing in our area. Since 2017 that event is special and will continue to be special. Very thankful for him and including me in with the Tuesday test session with Danny Dietrich.  For me it was an awesome experience to be a part of.”, Feathers said.

“We had a really good Shane McDowell Racing, Team Zero Bloomquist car and we were putting a night together that we haven’t been able to in a while. To be able to make Jeremy Miller smile with the car made the night completely worth it.  Also, thanks to every person that keeps our team going, we will keep chugging along and wait for our luck to get a little better.”

Veteran racers know what this sport is like.  There are highs and lows and Feathers knows how to navigate them.  If he keeps running like this, the wins will come again, probably in bunches.

“Too dumb to quit…that’s what it boils down to I guess.”, Feathers said with a laugh.

THE WEEK AHEAD

It will be a very busy short week in the shop.  The drive shaft and lift arm are broken from Sunday’s failure but there is also other damage that occurred as a result.  Feathers needs to determine what work needs to be done and what parts need to be replaced before he can set his plans in cement for the coming weekend.

If repairs can be made, Feathers hopes to travel to Georgetown Speedway in Delaware on August 1st for the Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race.  He owns two top five super late model finishes in three starts there so far this season in his Team Zero Race Cars, Fox Racing Shox, Leggett Engine Research, North River Farm, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing No.20.

Tentatively the team is also aiming to join the super late models at Port Royal Speedway on August 3rd.  A final decision will be made later this week.  Stay tuned to Trever’s social media outlets listed below for updates.

Summer Speed: Picking Up Pace & Podiums

Mifflintown, PA – July 30, 2024

by Derick Kriner / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

As the temperature continued to rise and make for hot days and nights in July, Lane Snook also started to rise in performance. After scoring several strong runs in May and June, including a win, July proved to be no different.

While not all results saw the 23 car in a podium spot, speed was evident. To start off the month, a make-up feature was on tap at BAPS. Podium one of the month found the young 16-year old driver, as Lane charged from 8th to 3rd position. Being an addition to the regular show, this meant the team would have to prepare for another feature that evening. Rolling off 9th in the regular feature, misfortune found the 23 car. “Had a car spin in front of us and I had to spin to avoid.” Not what you want to happen, but the aforementioned gains in speed showed. “We went to the rear and made our way back up to 10th.” Good speed shown, with two top 10’s to kick off the month.

The next weekend found the team traveling to Selinsgrove, where speed seemed to be produced right out of the box for the Mifflintown native. Going to the top of the speed chart on his first lap of time trials, again proved the speed found. However, lap two ended the night, with a blown motor. The team was understandably bummed, but with the small track car loaded up, the team went to Path Valley the following week and didn’t appear to have missed a beat.

“Started 3rd in the heat and finished 4th. That put us starting 7th in the feature and made our way to 2nd.” Even after a slight misstep on the cushion set him back to 3rd late, Lane was able to power back around and grab the 2nd spot on the final circuit.

Closing out the month of July at BAPS brought the team back to the site of Snook’s first win. Winning speed was there and Lane advanced from 9th-2nd in the feature event. “The car kept getting better as the race went on,” stated the young late model pilot. “I think the more laps I’ve run, that we’ve found some stuff that I like with the setup on the car. I’ve definitely got more comfortable as the year has went on and we are putting some good runs together.” All of this while having to navigate different types of tracks and surfaces.

The ¼ mile tracks like Path Valley are definitely fun and elbows up,” said Snook. “½ miles are aero dependent and that can make them hard to race on,” identifying a key challenge of the bigger speedways like Port Royal and Selinsgrove. “If they widen out, they can race good.”

As evident with his performances there this year, Lane highlighted ⅜ mile tracks, like BAPS as “about the perfect size for a racetrack. The last couple times we’ve been there, it’s been good racing and fun to race on.”

August will be no different in the variety of facilities the 23 team looks to head to. Port Royal will kick off the month on August 3rd, followed by Path Valley on the 10th. BAPS Motor Speedway success will hopefully continue as the limited late models are on the card August 17th. A double header weekend featuring Port Royal and Selinsgrove is on the calendar for the 23rd and 24th, before rounding out the month at Port Royal for the start of the Juniata County Fair.

A month racing in the heat and on different size speedways, not only showed the teams ability to compete on a regular basis, but also proved the progress made by a young racer. Three podiums and a top-10, helped the confidence of the 16-year old driver, and will hopefully continue as August features a similar schedule to that of the successful July.

The Snook family and Lane, would again like to thank all of their amazing partners and sponsors for keeping the team on track and performing at a consistently strong level.

Top 5 Turnaround: Chaotic Travels Turn Into 5th Place Finish for Feathers

Port Royal, PA – July 16, 2024

by Derick Kriner / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Troubles on the racetrack are a part of the sport of racing. While this wasn’t a part of this past Saturday’s adventure to the ‘Speed Palace’ for the Feathers Racing crew, troubles on the way to the speedway put the 20 team in hurry up mode.

While enroute to the track, the team’s truck blew a left front tire and left the team stranded on the side of the highway waiting for help. Help came in the form of PA State Troopers Ebbert and Wirth, who assisted the team. The team also got some much needed roadside assistance from Port Royal Speedway sponsor, Zimmerman Truck Repair. The efforts of both groups helped the team to get back on the road and make it to the track, right as the call went out for engine heat for the sprint cars.

Troubles behind for the night, Trever and the Team Zero Race Cars, Fox Racing Shox, Leggett Engine Research, North River Farm, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing No. 20, were ready to get unloaded and on track.

QUICK RESULTS

TAKING A GUESS

With little time to unload the entire trailer and get the car ready for action, the team was forced to send the car out with a guess as to what the track was like. Getting about 15-20 minutes to get all of this done “definitely put us into rush mode. I made some changes during the week and figured I was going to be really tight, and it was” stated Feathers. The track seemed to hold a little more moisture throughout the entire night and this prompted some changes that helped the 20 car move forward.

LIGHTING THE FIRE AFTER KICKING A TIRE

Rolling off 3rd in Heat 2, Trever and gang needed to maintain to make the handicap for the feature. An unfortunate first lap put the 20 car back to the 6th spot. This lit a fire under Feathers. “I put myself in a bad position twice…then I drove it as hard as I could back to 3rd” putting the TFR 20 into the 8th starting spot in the A-Main.

After showing a strong piece in the heat, the feature continued to show the progress that Trever and team were making. “I think we hit rock bottom enough with it that now I’m heading in the right direction” which showed in the 25 lap main event. The maneuverability of the No. 20 late model was evident as the feature went on. “We could move around and weren’t glued right to the bottom like we have been.” Trever was able to pilot the car past several drivers throughout the early and late stages of the race, ending a night that started out poorly, ending up in 5th.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Some much needed rest and recuperation is in order for the team this week, as Feathers will be taking the weekend off. “We just need to regroup, do some thinking and get back to winning form, so we can pay for some bills.” With the promise of increased speed, the Trever Feathers Racing team looks to get their first super late model win of the season.

Feathers Loses Promising Night to Engine Woes, Rebounds With Top Ten at Port Royal

Port Royal, PA – July 9, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

For the second week in a row, Trever Feathers’ weekend consisted of two super late model races.  The previous week he recorded two top-five finishes on trips to Delaware and Virginia.

This week it would be Maryland and Pennsylvania and Feathers was looking to continue his string of top finishes and hopefully secure his first super late model win of the season.

29.99 LAPS SHORT

Wednesday night Feathers made the 125-mile tow from his race shop to Potomac Speedway in Mechanicsville, MD with the McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox, Team Zero Race Cars super late model.

With his car still carrying the No.91 tribute wrap for his great uncle Jimmy Spence, Feathers laid down a lap that was just 0.003 seconds slower than quick timer Kenny Moreland.  The qualifying effort provided Feathers with the pole for heat race number two, which he commanded for the entire ten laps, winning by 4.656 seconds over Kyle Hardy.

Trever started outside the front row next to Moreland for the 30-lap feature but unfortunately the engine expired at the drop of the green, ending a promising night.

FIGHTING THE FORMAT

Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway heat lineups were set by random draw.  Feathers took the green for heat three from the 6th spot but wasted no time blasting to the front.  By the end of lap one, he was already in the runner-up spot and the next time by the line he was in command by nearly a full second.

Feathers went on to another convincing heat race win by 4.369 over Andrew Yoder.

With the feature lineup set by the handicap format, Feathers was assigned the 9th starting spot, essentially erasing his hard work in the heat race.  Forward progress was challenging for almost everyone inside the top ten during the 25-lap feature.

Feathers was mired in the 9th spot for most of the event, then leveraged a late restart with five laps remaining to pick up one spot for an 8th-place finish.

“We know the format deal but it’s still frustrating to have to start 9th behind cars we passed in the heat.”, Feathers commented.

“The competition is so close, it’s tough to pass guys once let alone twice.  We just weren’t good enough tonight to overcome all the dirty air and a surface that was really tough to pass on.”

UP NEXT

Saturday night, July 13th, the team will return to Port Royal Speedway with the super late models.

Feathers Scores Podium and Top Five in Solid Super Late Model Weekend

Winchester, VA – July 1, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Kevin Chapman / WRT Speedwerx

Trever Feathers is gearing up for another two race week in the McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox, Team Zero Race Cars No.20 super late model.

Feathers has an average finishing position of 8.3 thus far in his super late model season at tracks across Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, but he is still seeking his first win of the year in the highly competitive division.

This past weekend Feathers showed he is inching closer to checking that box as he recorded a podium and a top five in Delaware and Virginia.

GOTTA GET A GRIP

Feathers made the tow to Georgetown Speedway in Delaware Thursday night where he has supported the track’s events this season.  Aside from supporting regional super late model racing, it’s also a place he sees as a challenge that can help make his team better.

“We’ve struggled in the slick this year, something we haven’t had issues with in the past, so I keep coming back here (to Georgetown) because if we can get a hold of this place, we’ll know we’ve figured out our problem.”, Feathers shared.

Thursday’s show used a combined hot lap/time trial session to set the field for a feature-only program.

Feathers started and finished 3rd, navigating a tricky surface that had recently suffered from a lot of rain.

“I had a couple runs at (Donald) Lingo for second but I made a mistake and lost my shot at that, so I just gathered it back up and made sure I got it in the trailer in one piece.”, Feathers said.

Saturday night in his hometown of Winchester, VA, Feathers’ ride was adorned with the No.91 in honor of his great uncle at the Jimmy Spence Memorial at Winchester VA Speedway.

Thanks to the efforts of Feather’s cousin J.T. Spence and his uncle Jimmy McFarland, the annual event offered $6,091 to the winner, bonuses for heat race winners, and more.  The race is a family affair and means a lot to everyone who puts in a lot of hard work to honor the late Jimmy Spence.

A strong field of 29 drivers was on hand to do battle for the extra cash.  Heats were set by group time trials with a four-car inversion.  Feathers set quick time in his group, putting him outside row two to start the heat race.

“I think my knowledge of this place got us the quick time there.”, Feathers said.  “The car wasn’t great but I know how to get around here and help it a little.”

Feathers and 3rd place starter Kyle Hardy waged an entertaining battle in the heat race, with Feathers coming out on top to take the win and earn the 3rd starting spot for the 51-lap feature event.

In the early going, Feathers held serve in 3rd while everyone settled in for the extra-distance feature.  Although he slipped back a couple of spots, he held on inside the top five throughout the race and eventually took the checkered flag in 5th.

“The track got really slick in the feature, so my car struggled a little again.”, Feathers commented.  “I probably should’ve finished worse than I did.  We’ll keep working on it and get this thing figured out so we can get back to where we were late last year with this car when we went on a tear.  We’re gonna do some testing tomorrow.”

UP NEXT

Wednesday night, July 3rd, Feathers will head to Potomac Speedway in Maryland for the Gene VanMeter Memorial super late model race.

Saturday night, July 6th, the team will return to Port Royal Speedway when the super late models join the Pennsylvania Speedweek program for the sprint cars.

Starting Summer with Success: 1st Career Limited Win Highlights Month of June for Snook

Mifflintown, PA – June 30, 2024

by Derick Kriner / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

After a strong end to the month of May, Lane Snook and team were poised to make June a strong month. It didn’t take long for the speed of the months prior to translate into a front running performance.

June 1st featured the Limited Late Models competing at the BAPS Motor Speedway in a dual feature program. In the make-up feature, Snook and the 23 team showed tremendous speed, making a run from 23rd to the 2nd position. A strong run in the regular program’s heat (6th-1st) put the 16 year-old in a good position for the feature. At the end of the caution-filled race, Snook stood victorious on the front stretch, scoring his first career win in the Limited Late Model division.

“It was definitely cool to get my first win in a late model. It’s something that definitely helps build confidence in a sport that can destroy your confidence with a few bad runs.” Getting this first win seemed to have eased the young Mifflintown racer. “I’m glad it’s over with and hopefully it won’t be as stressful running up front.” Running up front would be something the 23 car would do in their next race at Port Royal.

With a 2nd place finish in his heat and a 2nd place starting position, put the pressure on once again. After running the first half of the race in 2nd, Lane slid back slightly after a restart, still garnering a 6th place run on a slick Port Royal. “I made some gains learning a slick racetrack and it ended up a good night.”

Taking the next week off to recuperate from illness, the team “thrashed to get the other car ready and decided to go to BAPS” after Selinsgrove canceled their double feature night. Another heat win showed promise for a good night, but the track unfortunately ran into a curfew issue right before the late model feature and will now have to make up the show. Lane will roll off 8th.

With the Blue Collar Classic being canceled due to expected rain, Snook and team will have a week off to get ready for the makeup feature, plus a full regular show, at BAPS on July 6th. Lane and family will also have some time to enjoy the holiday and hopefully enjoy some good family time and food. Nothing says summertime, quite like getting to enjoy a picnic. “I would say BBQ ribs would probably be my favorite 4th of July picnic food.” And as summer progresses, the young-racer also likes to enjoy some things outside of racing, like going to the beach when time allows. Lane enjoys “riding waves on the boogie boards with friends” on vacations.

Summer vacation will be filled with more racing for the late model team, as a potential five features outline their plans. July 6th will be at the aforementioned BAPS double program. Then the team plans to head to Port Royal the following week. A small track takes the team out of the regular ⅜ & ½ mile routine, as they take on Path Valley, which hosted the World of Outlaws series earlier in the year. Snook plans to end the month out with BAPS.

All of this again wouldn’t be possible without all their great sponsors. Many thanks go out to all the individuals and families that help keep the dream alive and the 23 on the track and hopefully in victory lane more frequently.

Trever Feathers Rallies Late at Hagerstown’s Steel Block Clash

Hagerstown, MD – June 25, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jason Walls / WRT Speedwerx

Trever Feathers opted to dust off his limited late model this past weekend and take it to Hagerstown Speedway where he had captured a win with that car earlier this season.

Feathers has been supporting the Steel Block Clash series every chance he has gotten this year and Saturday’s $3,000-to-win installment was no different.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  June 22, 2024

  • Class:  Limited Late Model
  • Track:  Hagerstown Speedway
  • City, State:   Hagerstown, MD
  • Stats:  33 cars, Group A Qualifying 5th, Heat 5th (3), A-main 6th (17)

EVERY POSITION MATTERS

Feathers got his night off on the right foot with the 5th quickest lap in Group A qualifying, putting his Team Zero Race Cars, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.27 on the inside of row two for his heat race.

After some close-quarters racing for most of the opening lap of the heat race, Feathers took sole possession of 3rd place at the line.  Devin Hart challenged the Winchester, VA native for the spot, with the two swapping positions a couple times over the next two laps.  The battle allowed Kyle Lear to slip into 3rd just before a caution appeared with four laps remaining.

On the ensuing restart, Feathers moved into 4th before another exchange with Hart left him in 5th at the finish.  It was good enough to transfer to the A-main but it meant he would take the green from 17th instead of potentially as high as 9th had he been able to secure 3rd in the heat.

In the 30-lap feature, which clicked up without a caution in just over eleven minutes, Feathers put on a passing clinic.  With no breaks and no help to bunch the field, he worked his way methodically past another car about every 2.5 laps.

At the finish, Feathers had passed 11 cars for a 6th-place finish.

“This car really likes Hagerstown.”, Feathers said.  “We timed really well but even though we were fast, we didn’t get the finish we should have in the heat race, which would have put us in a better position to compete for at least a podium finish tonight.  I’ll just leave it at that.”

UP NEXT

Feathers will climb back behind the wheel of his No.20 super late model this week for two events.  Thursday, June 27th he will journey to Georgetown Speedway in Delaware.

Saturday night Feathers will have a much shorter trip to Winchester Speedway, just a few miles from his race shop in Virginia for the event that honors his great uncle, the Jimmy Spence Memorial.

Feathers Shines Early, Struggles in Final Stages at Lincoln

Abbottstown, PA – June 17, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Garry Ferguson / WRT Speedwerx

The last time Trever Feathers visited Lincoln Speedway he ended the night standing in victory lane.  That was in October 2023 while Feathers was in the midst of a hot streak in his Team Zero Race Cars, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.20 super late model.

Since then Feathers has been trying to get the car dialed back in to the same level of comfort and performance he was demonstrating during that stretch.  What better place to do it than the site of your last dominating performance?

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  June 8, 2024

  • Class:  Super Late Model
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Stats:  34 cars, Group 1 Qualifying 5th, Heat 1st (1), A-main 14th (9th)

GETTING CLOSER

Feathers kicked off the night with the 5th quickest lap in group one qualifying, positioning himself in the top tier of the 34 cars on hand.

Having earned the pole for his heat race, Feathers took full advantage of the opportunity and dominated his heat race, taking the win by a margin of nearly 2.5 seconds over the runner up.

It appeared Feathers was back in his comfort zone and ready to put the challenges of the recent weeks behind him.  He started 9th in the 35-lap feature event and raced inside the top ten through the first ten laps.

As the race neared the midpoint, Feathers lost some ground to the front-runners and slid back to 12th.  Two more positions were lost over the final dozen laps, putting the Winchester, VA native 14th in the final rundown.

It was a disappointing result for Feathers and the team after an impressive start to the night but overall, it was a positive night for Feathers and his team.

“We just flat-out missed it (the setup) for the feature.”, Feathers said.  “The car was really good all night.  We had a better car than our results show.”

“The track was different than when we were here in October.  We didn’t have 410’s (sprint cars) here that night, so I’m sure that has something to do with it.  The surface was dirtier tonight.”

“There are definitely some positives to take away tonight.  We had been fighting a front-end/steering issue most of this season but we finally got that under control.  We probably over-compensated for that in our feature setup and we shouldn’t have.”

Feathers changed his original plans and opted to skip the series finale at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday.  That decision was based solely on how hard the team had worked over the previous week and a half.  Long hours in the shop, a Wednesday test session at BAPS Motor Speedway, and three races, all in the span of eight days were enough to warrant a break so everyone on the team could enjoy their Father’s Day.

UP NEXT

Feathers will return to Port Royal Speedway this Saturday, June 22nd.

Berry Determined to Bounce Back After Early Speedweek Struggles

Spring Run, PA – June 12, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Austin Berry entered Appalachian Mountain Speedweek aiming to improve on his 11th-place finish in the 2023 series standings.  He and his team put in a lot of work during the offseason to freshen their equipment and improve their motor program to take the next step in their progression.

Berry got a late start on his 2024 campaign after parts delays kept the team’s engine on the sidelines longer than expected.  As a result, he entered Speedweek with only three races under his belt.  In those three starts, he showed speed but had mixed results.

THE OPENING PAIR

Berry kicked off the series Friday night with a return to the scene of his best run in last year’s edition.  He posted a podium finish in the 2023 event at Clinton County Speedway in Mill Hall, PA, and was looking to get a strong start again this year.

Although he didn’t come out of the gate with a qualifying run that put him in the dash like the previous year, his 12th-quickest lap was good enough to put him in contention.  He started 5th in his heat race but couldn’t climb into a top-three transfer spot.

From inside row two in the B-main, Berry grabbed the runner-up spot at the drop of the green, then took command of the race at the halfway mark of the 10-lap affair.  The win put the Mifflin, PA native 19th on the A-main grid, which he converted into a 15th-place finish.

“We weren’t bad tonight but we were fighting a right front brake issue all night.  The caliper was hanging up and that was definitely limiting my options behind the wheel.”, Berry shared.

Saturday night the series rolled into Port Royal Speedway, Berry’s home track.  With a large, high-quality field of 45 cars on hand, he turned in the 7th-best lap in Group B qualifying, which put him on the front row of his heat race.

Berry transferred through his heat with a 3rd place finish but couldn’t mount any forward charge in the feature, officially finishing 19th in the 35-lap main event.

“We weren’t very good tonight.  We looked better than we were early on.  I think our experience here (at Port Royal) helped us qualify well and get through the heat.”, Berry commented.

NEW HOPE

Night three at Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland on Sunday was a night Berry was just as soon forget.  Rather than serving as a turning point, it only elevated the level of frustration in the ABR camp.

“Not a lot I can say about tonight.  The car was bad and so was the driver.”, Berry said.

After qualifying 14th in his group, finishing 7th in his heat, and not transferring through the B-main, Berry and his team loaded up and headed home right away to get started on going over the car and preparing for Path Valley Speedway Park on Tuesday.  The day off on Monday would give them an opportunity to regroup.

When the team unloaded for Tuesday’s show, quite a few changes had been made to the Tuscarora Restoration, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance / Stock Car Steel & Aluminum, VP Racing Fuels, Carquest of State College No.86.

After posting good lap times in hot laps, Berry’s qualifying run came up short of expectations when he landed 12th in the rundown for group A.

“I was really confused when the car got really tight in qualifying because it was good in hot laps and we had not changed anything.  When I got back to our pit we discovered the right rear tire was almost completely flat.  I ran over something in staging and cut the sidewall just before I started my time trial run.”, Berry explained.

From outside row two in his heat, Berry got into the 3rd and final transfer spot at the drop of the green and held it to the halfway point, but late in the race slipped to 4th and was relegated to the B-main.

Berry started on the pole of the 10-lap B-main and never looked back, winning over Drake Troutman and Kyle Hardy to put his Rocket Chassis in the show.

After starting 19th in the 35-lap feature, Berry slipped back as far as 21st before rebounding and charging forward to 14th on lap nine.  The second half of the race was more of a struggle when the right front brake issue surfaced again.  He finished 17th.

“After Hagerstown, we went over everything, talked with the folks at Rocket Chassis and with Jim at JDS Racing.  We determined some of the changes we made over the offseason were working against us, so we put some of those things back to how they were last year.”, Berry shared.

“It helped.  We were a lot better at Path Valley.  Only racing three times before Speedweek has hurt us.  If we had raced more we would have figured these things out sooner.”

“We have made tremendous gains in the handful of races we have run.  We expected to be better, but the good news is we know what our issues have been and we can work on them to get to where we should be.”

Berry has the equipment to do the job.  Facing tough fields with limited laps this year is part of the reality of the challenge they face, but they are battling through that.

“I want to give a shout-out to Tom Barron and Barron’s Racing Engines.  It’s no secret that our powerplants have been a pain point for us in recent years, sidelining us with a series of issues, so after last season we started working with Tom.  He has got our engine program on the right track.  We appreciate that, especially after what we have gone through the past few years.”, Berry said.

“We are hitting the reset as we head to Selinsgrove to start the second half of Speedweek.  It’s one of my better tracks, so it will be a good gauge of where we are.  We are looking to get some confidence back.”

UP NEXT

Four races remain on the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek schedule and Berry intends to enter all of them.  Thursday night the series will roll into Selinsgrove Speedway, then move on to Bedford Speedway, Lincoln Speedway and BAPS Motor Speedway on the next three nights, closing out the series on Sunday night June 16th.

Trever Feathers Rallies for Podium Finish in Backup Car at Hagerstown

Hagerstown, MD – June 11, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jason Walls / WRT Speedwerx

One week ago, Trever Feathers noted that despite some quality runs in his black and blue No.20 Team Zero Chassis, he wasn’t satisfied.  The consistency he had in late 2023 with the same car was missing and he was struggling to dial it in on certain types of surfaces.

It can be a slow and frustrating process for teams to work through the trial and error required to find the root of a handling problem.  Sometimes the schedule allows for that but sometimes it doesn’t, and sometimes it’s an expensive journey until you get to the solution.

The ace up his sleeve was a second Team Zero car, a 2016 chassis the team acquired with the intent to go Limited Late Model racing.  Feathers did that early in the season with the No.27 on the door and he won at Hagerstown Speedway in dominant fashion.

In recent weeks, Feathers opted to bolt a super late model engine into the No.27 and keep it handy as a backup car as he entered Appalachian Mountain Speed Week.

NOT GREAT, NOT BAD

Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, Feathers strapped into his McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.20 super late model and turned in a respectable 11th quickest lap in group one qualifying.

With 45 cars on hand, the qualifying lap put Feathers in a decent position for the night.  From the 4th starting spot in his heat race, he muscled his way to a 3rd place finish to qualify for the finale.

Feathers started deep in the field, 17th to be exact, but churned his way forward to a 12th-place finish.  It was enough to earn Hard Charger.

It wasn’t a bad night but it was short of expectations for the Winchester, VA native when it comes to Port Royal Speedway where he has had considerable success.  There was frustration in the TFR pit.  At that point, the mindset was they would skip Hagerstown and instead get to work in the shop to figure out the issue.

YEAH, THAT'S BETTER

Sunday morning in the shop the team got to work and felt they had identified the source of some of the issues, so Feathers and the team loaded up and headed to Hagerstown, MD for the next stop on the speed week schedule.

Unfortunately, in hot laps Feathers experienced the same issue he has been having for a while.  The feel he was seeking still wasn’t there.

The field of 36 cars was split into two groups for qualifying.  Feathers turned the first of his two laps but the issues were significant enough that he opted to pull in before completing the second lap.  He was scored 12th quickest in group one.

Tense team discussions led to the decision to turn the page.  The team pulled down the No.27 backup car.  They would get back to solving the No.20’s issue on another night when the stakes were not as high.  Shocks and springs were moved from the No.20 to the No.27 to get ready for the heat race.

The swap to the backup car meant Feathers relinquished his 5th starting spot in his heat and he would have to go from the rear (8th).  With only the top three transferring to the main event, his work was cut out for him.

One lap into the heat race, everyone with eyes on the track knew Feathers had made the right choice.  He blasted from 8th to 3rd on the opening lap and never looked back, holding on to the spot to put himself and his team in the show.

Feathers lined up 15th for the 35-lap feature and used the opening laps to let the field sort itself out while he settled into a rhythm.  By lap seven he cracked the top ten.

The charge accelerated from there.  Feathers climbed into the top five on lap ten.  Over the last 25 laps, he battled with the front runners, climbing as high as 3rd and within striking distance of the lead.  Depending how it all unfolded, he had a shot to get to the front.

Ultimately, Feathers finished 3rd, completing an unexpected turnaround from his early challenges.

“Well obviously I’m happy with the result we were able to get tonight after making the swap, but to be honest while I was passing cars I was thinking about what’s wrong with our blue car (the No.20).  That car won three of the last six races it ran in 2023.  I kept telling people I didn’t forget how to drive.”, Feathers said with a grin.

“We built the 27-car using the 20-car as a template, so both Team Zero chassis cars are exactly the same but the 27 just has a much better feel right now.”

“We’ve managed some good results but I honestly haven’t been happy with the 20-car all year.  It’s all about the feel.  It’s a mystery we’re going to solve.  We’re not giving up on it.  We love these Team Zero cars and we are getting better with them.”
