Newlin Getting 410 Program Sorted Out, Wins Labor Day Warrior Award

Port Royal, PA – September 5, 2024

Starting a 410 sprint car program is not an easy task for anyone but it is an especially challenging effort for a family team stretching every dollar to make it happen.

After numerous highly successful years in the 305 sprint car ranks followed by quick success in the 358 division as well in his family-owned No.11z, Zach Newlin dabbled in the 410 ranks at the wheel of equipment other than his own for a couple years.  While there were some highlights in those limited outings, those rides didn’t seem to be the right fit.

In 2023 Newlin and his family decided to resurrect the family-owned team and take it to the 410 sprint car level.

PERSISTENCE

Newlin’s 2024 debut was delayed until June.  He came into it knowing he was down on horsepower compared to most of his competition but he needed to hit the track to start working out the bugs and building a notebook.  It takes time to build a 410 sprint car program and you can’t do it in the shop.

His first five outings of this season were a struggle.  The team battled a mystery power issue that would creep up mid-race.  The frustration reached unwanted levels.

Doubts briefly crept into Newlin’s mind.  Did he belong here?  Was it worth it?

The short answer to both:  yes.

Newlin and team kept digging and finally got to the bottom of the issue.  When Port Royal Speedway’s Labor Day Classic hit the clay on Monday afternoon, he timed 6th quick in his group, right in the thick of the regulars.

An 8th place finish in his heat race on the tough daytime surface put Newlin in the B-main where he raced to a 9th place finish from the 10th starting spot in his Ron’s RV Sales, Butler Hill Maple Farm, Tuscarora Roofing Co., Dillman Hauling,  Wintergreen Window Cleaning, Christine Booher, Safety-Kleen, Strange Oval, Walker Performance Filtration, Newlin Bar Service, The Podium Awards, Nesbit Innovations, Deimler Chiropractic and Your Dry Basement No.11z

Statistically it wasn’t a day to write home about but for this small team it was a hurdle cleared.  Now the process of tuning their car’s handling can finally begin in earnest.

To help broaden the smiles in the team’s pit after the race, Newlin was selected as the winner of the J&S Classics Warrior Award.  The prize, awarded to the driver who finishes in the position of the pill that is drawn, is presented courtesy of Sandy Kline.

While all of this has been playing out over the past couple months, Newlin has had a bigger engine being rebuilt as time and funds allowed.  That powerplant is nearly ready, so that award money will come in very handy to help keep this team progressing toward being a weekly competitor.

“I can’t thank Sandy (Kline) enough for putting up this award money and for everything she does for the sport.  All of us in the pit area appreciate her.”, Newlin said.

“I want to thank my mom, my dad, and my entire family for everything they do to help this team exist.  We knew this wouldn’t be easy.  We’re going to keep working hard to build a competitive 410 team.”

“We wouldn’t be able to do this without the support of our partners.  I want to say thanks to them all and I hope everyone will go out and support those folks who support us.”

UP NEXT

Tentatively, the next race for Newlin in the 11z is September 21st at BAPS Motor Speedway.  Other options are under consideration.  Stay tuned to Zach Newlin Racing on Facebook and Twitter for schedule updates!

Newlin has three 358 sprint car races remaining in the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m, all of which are at Williams Grove Speedway on September 13th, 20th and 21st.

Hot Start, Rough Finish for Newlin at BAPS, Two-Race Weekend on Tap

Port Royal, PA – July 30, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Zach Newlin has split his seat time between the 358 sprint cars and 410 sprint cars this season but as a result of schedules, the weather, and waiting on his 410 engine to be finished, it has been difficult to get into a rhythm.

Saturday night he returned to the seat of the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car after a four-week break in the team’s schedule.  It was also his BAPS Motor Speedway season debut.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  July 27, 2024

  • Class:  358 Sprint Cars
  • Location:  BAPS Motor Speedway, York Haven, PA
  • Stats: 30 cars, Heat 1st (1), A-main 19th (11)

A LITTLE LUCK WOULD BE NICE

The night started out strong for Newlin.  He led wire to wire to take the victory in the the first of three heat races for the thirty-car field.

Newlin’s good fortune seemed to end there.  With twelve drivers participating in the redraw (the top four finishers from each heat race), he pulled the eleven pill, putting him inside row six to start the main event.

It would be a tall order but it certainly wasn’t impossible to race into the top five or better from that far back if the car was right.  Unfortunately, Newlin battled a tight race car from the start of the 25-lap A-main.  He struggled to a 19th-place finish.

410 PROGRAM UPDATE

Newlin debuted his family-owned 410 sprint car team in mid-June.  Through four starts they have made three A-mains but they have battled a recurring issue that has hampered their ability to put a complete night together.

A series of potential electrical and fueling system components that could possibly be the root cause of the mid-race issues have been explored and ruled out over the course of the four starts.  The team believes they have made some progress since their last start, so they are looking forward to getting back to the track.

UP NEXT

This weekend Newlin will return to Williams Grove Speedway in the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car for a Summer Series event.  After capturing a victory there in 2023, this season has been an up and down one at the Mechanicsburg oval for Newlin.  He owns two podium finishes in six starts but his average finish is just outside the top ten.

Saturday night the Millerstown, PA driver will strap into the Ron’s RV Sales, Butler Hill Maple Farm, Tuscarora Roofing, Dillman Hauling No.11z 410 sprint car at Port Royal Speedway.

Newlin Records 358 Podium Finish at Grove, Takes On Port Royal in 410

Port Royal, PA – June 25, 2024

Zach Newlin finally got to put a long-awaited two-race weekend under his belt for the first time during the 2024 season.  He has had plenty of those in the past during his successful 305 and 358 sprint car days but when you are working to build your own 410 sprint car team, they don’t come as easily or frequently.

Friday and Saturday he doubled-up with the Mansberger Motorsports 358 and his own 410 sprint car to get some quality seat time.

SO CLOSE

Friday night Newlin returned to the seat of the Mansberger Motorsports 358 sprint car for his 5th race of the year in the No.21m.  After starting the season with a runner-up finish, the team has battled bad draws, incidents, and handling issues as they have worked to get back to racing at the front of the pack.

Newlin kicked off the night by claiming a 4th place finish in his heat race, which was all he needed to put his team in the redraw.

For a change, luck worked in Newlin’s favor and put him on the pole for the 25-lap Summer Series main event.

From the drop of the green, Newlin found himself in 2nd and chasing leader Adam Carberry.  Numerous times throughout the event the Millerstown, PA native pressured the leader but it seemed each time he was about to strike, the caution lights would come on.

Newlin tried a final charge in the closing laps but jumped the cushion and packed his right side wheels with mud.  Doug Hammaker took advantage of the opportunity to slip by, dropping Newlin to a 3rd-place finish.

“Those cautions sure didn’t help us tonight.  Seemed like every time I would catch Adam (Carberry) and be ready to challenge for the lead the yellow would come out.”, Newlin said of the podium run.

“I could catch him (Carberry) on entry but he was a little better off the corner than I was.  After the late caution, I knew I didn’t have many laps left, so I went to the cushion to try to build up some momentum for one last shot but that bit me.  I got over the cushion and packed some mud in the wheel.  That gave Doug (Hammaker) the chance to get under me.”

“I have to give a shout-out to my daughter for pulling the pole in the redraw.  We haven’t had much luck pulling pills this year, so it was nice to have a little luck for a change!”

DIALING IT IN

Newlin made his second appearance of the season and second in a row with his family-owned 410 sprint car at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night.

In his debut the week before, Newlin experienced electrical or ignition issues that hampered his efforts to begin to build a notebook for the Ron’s RV Sales, Butler Hill Maple Farm, Tuscarora Roofing, Dillman Hauling No.11z.

Although the team thought they had found the issue from the previous week, Newlin’s night got off to a tough start when the issue resurfaced.   As a result, he ranked 26th after qualifying and finished 9th in his heat.

In the B-main things began to turn around.  Newlin charged from 8th to 5th by lap two and survived a restart after a caution to claim a transfer spot and put his bright green No.11z in its first A-main of the season.

Newlin exited the feature event after just seven laps when the problem returned.  He was credited with a 23rd-place finish.

“The caution in the B-main probably saved me.  The car started having issues again but it settled down during the caution and then ran well after that.”, Newlin commented.

“Unfortunately it started happening again early in the A-main.  We will get it figured out in the shop this week.”

UP NEXT

This weekend Newlin will climb back into the seat of the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.

Newlin said the team will sit out of the upcoming Pennsylvania 410 Sprint Speedweek.

“We’re not equipped for time trial shows right now.  The engine we’re running is down on horsepower compared to most of these guys.  We have to be smart about when and where we race to get the most laps to develop our notebook and our program.”, Newlin shared.

Newlin Battles Back at Williams Grove After Early Contact

Mechanicsburg, PA – June 4, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

Zach Newlin kicked off his season at Williams Grove Speedway back in March with a runner-up finish but since then it has been an uphill battle to get back into the top five.

April’s events were rained out and earlier in May he struggled to two finishes outside the top fifteen.

As the month of May came to a close Friday night, Newlin was back at ‘The Grove’ in the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m aiming to get back to where the team started.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  May 31, 2024

  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 9th (7), A-main 12th (20)

COSTLY CONTACT

Newlin appeared to be on his way to achieving his goal at the start of the night.

The Millerstown, PA native started 7th in his heat, was up to 5th, and challenging for 4th with one lap to go when contact initiated by another car caused him to spin off turn two.  Although he was able to restart, the one remaining lap was not enough to climb back into a transfer spot.  He finished 9th.

In the B-main, Zach wasted no time ensuring he would put the Mansberger 21m in the show.  On the opening lap he charged from 5th to 2nd, then pursued Williams Grove 358 sprint point leader Doug Hammaker for the lead.  Newlin settled for the runner-up finish and a spot in the finale.

Starting deep in the 25-lap feature field, Newlin started moving forward from the drop of the green.  From the 20th starting spot, he climbed inside the top fifteen by lap seven.  His progress continued and culminated with a 12th-place finish.

“Moving forward a few spots in the heat and eight spots in the feature shows we made progress tonight, so we will build on that.”, Newlin commented.

UP NEXT

The next outing for Newlin in the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m will likely be June 21st at Williams Grove Speedway.

Zach Newlin’s Strong Showing Nets 2nd Place Finish at Williams Grove Speedway

Mechanicsburg, PA – March 30, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Zach Newlin has been waiting patiently to kick off his 2024 sprint car season.  On a chilly and very windy Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, his season finally got rolling, and he made it worth the wait.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  March 29, 2024

  • Class:  358 Sprint Cars
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  27 cars, Heat 3rd (1), A-main 2nd (6)

A BATTLE FROM BEGINNING TO END

Newlin’s evening got off on the right foot with a pill draw that put him on the pole for the 3rd heat.  The top six from each of the three heats would transfer, with the top four from each going to the redraw.

The start of the heat race appeared to be a bit uneven but race officials let it stand.  Newlin slipped back two spots on the opening lap.  He held on to that spot to the end to put the Mansberger Motorsports team into the redraw.

The redraw put Newlin outside row three for the start of the 20-lap A-main.  On the drop of the green, the Millerstown (PA) native charged to the outside off of turn four and carried the momentum into 3rd place by the end of the opening lap.

On lap six 2nd place Justin Foster suffered mechanical issues and dropped out of contention, handing the runner-up spot to Newlin.

Newlin hounded leader Matt Findley for the next five laps before powering by, once again using the high side of the speedway off turn four.  Findley fought back, sliding back into the top spot one lap later.

With five laps remaining, Dylan Norris entered the fray making it a three-car battle for the top spot.  Newlin was briefly shuffled back to 3rd but when the checkered flag fell he was the runner-up behind Norris in the highly competitive and entertaining season-opening feature for the 358 sprint cars.

“For our first night out this year, we weren’t terrible.  A couple of small mistakes cost me.”, Newlin commented after the good showing.  “Once we get the car dialed in a little, we should only get better.”

UP NEXT

The next race for Newlin hasn’t been nailed down just yet.  He hopes to make his season 410 debut in his family-owned 11z in April.  Follow Zach Newlin Racing on Facebook or Zach Daddy Racing on X (formerly Twitter) for the latest schedule updates when the decisions are made!

Zach Newlin spent most of the 2023 season working to pull his own 410 sprint car team together.  It proved to take longer than hoped but the team did manage to make it to the track three times late in the season.

The preparation has continued throughout this offseason, and while Newlin has limited resources, he has been working hard to build depth where he can and fans should expect to see more of Newlin in his 410 sprint car in 2024.

There are plenty of other updates from the Zach Newlin Racing camp to share this winter too.

YOU WIN, THEY WIN!

Racers don’t often get the opportunity to hang out and have fun with their fans, family, and friends.  Every winter, Zach Newlin and the entire Newlin Racing family try to remedy that by hosting a fun night

The night features bingo with cash prizes, door prizes, 50/50 drawings, a Chinese auction, and tear-off tickets.

Not only is it a fun night of games, but the annual event helps Newlin Racing support some of the costs of their program.

Everyone knows how expensive racing is these days.  It doesn’t matter if you are running a go-kart like Caleb Newlin or a full-blown sprint car like his father, Zach Newlin, it takes funding to get to the track.

The entire event is a win for fans and a win for Newlin Racing.  Come out and support a long-time Central Pennsylvania racing family.

The event will be held at the Millerstown (PA) Moose on Saturday, January 27th.  Doors open at noon with festivities kicking off at 1pm.

Advance tickets are $25.  Only 300 tickets will be sold.  If available, tickets will be $30 at the door.  Interested fans can message Newlin Racing or Zach Newlin Racing on Facebook to get tickets.

Tickets are also available at the Millerstown Moose, Ron’s RV Sales in Mifflintown, and The Podium Awards in Newport.

Fans can find all the latest information on the ‘Newlin Racing Cash Bingo’ event on the Newlin Racing Facebook page.

358 PLANS

Before we get into Newlin’s 410 sprint car plans for 2024, we want to fill fans in on another part of his schedule.

‘Zach Daddy’ as he is known to his fans, will return to the seat of Dan Mansberger’s No.21m 358 sprint car to compete in all the Williams Grove Speedway dates for the division.

The pairing had a solid season in 2023, capturing one victory and finishing 6th in the season point standings at ‘The Grove’.

We enjoy running with Dan, so I’m really happy to be back in his car again.”, Newlin said.

This will be our 4th year together.  We struggled with mechanical issues our first couple of years but last year we overcame that.  We were competitive almost every week in 2023.  I’m looking forward to 2024.  I think we can run up front and get Dan back to victory lane again.

410 PLANS

Last season, Newlin was aiming to get his own family-owned 11z team put together with a 410 bullet under the hood by early summer but parts delays, funding and other issues kept delaying his debut.  The team did manage three starts before the season closed, one of them unfortunately ending early with a part failure in hot laps.

In 2024, Newlin is set to race the Ron’s RV Sales, Butler Hill Maple Farm, Tuscarora Roofing Co., Dillman Hauling, Precision Auto Repair Services, Christine Booker Realtor, Newlin Bar Service No.11z on a regular basis from the start of the season.

That said, Newlin will need to be selective when and where he competes to ensure he makes the most of his equipment and gives himself the best chance to build on what he has.

With only their smaller engine available, ZNR’s schedule options will be a bit limited.  As of now, plans are to compete at BAPS Motor Speedway’s 410 sprint car shows, plus some additional mid-summer dates at Port Royal Speedway.  Newlin is hoping the team’s other engine is done soon so the team will be able to add more dates to their schedule.

This will be a learning and building year for us, so our main goals are just to be at the track as much as we are able and get as many laps as we can.“, Newlin commented.  We are also going to make sure we promote our partners.  We wouldn’t be able to do this without them.  I can’t thank those folks enough.  Last year was disappointing because we wanted to race more but things we couldn’t control kept us from doing that.

“Our partners have stayed behind us and continued to believe in what we are trying to build, so we are going to make sure to take care of them.

PARTNERS ARE FAMILY

Speaking of marketing partners, Newlin will welcome back several key supporters in 2024.

Ron’s RV Sales of Mifflintown is back as a primary partner.  Ron’s RV Sales is a retirement hobby that has become a passion. After retiring from Snedeker Energy in early 2020, Ron decided to buy some RVs and start a little business as a hobby. While the business has grown, Ron is still dedicated to helping people find the RV that’s right for them. You won’t find high-pressure salespeople or big mark-ups, just honest prices and a great selection of travel trailers, motorhomes, utility trailers, golf carts, and more.  You can find them online at RonsRVSales.com, call 717-436-6514, or stop by 349 Industrial Park Road, Mifflintown, PA.

Also returning is Butler Hill Maple Farm, which is owned and operated by U.S. Army veteran Corrie Bacon.  As a child, Corrie helped his dad make maple syrup.  Prior to his retirement following 31 years of service, he purchased land and the maple business from his lifelong friend.  Since then, Butler Hill Maple Farm has been offering pure Pennsylvania maple syrup in three grades: Golden Delicate, Amber Rich, Dark Robust and Very Dark, Very Strong.

Race fans will also find Butler Hill Maple Farm has special edition bottles etched with sprint cars, late models and modifieds!  All these items are available for shipping in their company store online, and at events throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and the DC area. Visit ButlerHillMapleFarm.com to learn more and get your favorite products today!  You can also call Corrie’s customer service at 607-426-5820, email [email protected] or find Butler Hill Maple Farm on Facebook.

Tuscarora Roofing, a full service roofing company based in Blain, PA, is back for Newlin’s 2024 campaign.  If your roof needs some attention or a full replacement, contact them today!  Tuscarora Roofing can be found on Facebook or reached at (717) 512-5340.

Dillman Hauling will continue their support of Newlin for the fifth consecutive season.  Dillman Hauling, LLC. has been offering clients throughout Perry County and the surrounding area quality transportation of materials since 2018.  They offer Tri-Axle hauling for stone, shale, sand, topsoil, fill, etc.  Visit them on Facebook to learn more or give them a call at 717-275-3454 today!

A number of other invaluable partners and product sponsors will also return to the team, including Precision Auto Repair Services, Christine Booher – Realtor, Safety-Kleen, Strange Oval, Walker Performance Filtration, Newlin Bar Service, The Podium Awards, Nesbit Innovations and Deimler Chiropractic.

We welcome inquiries about our available partnerships.  As we work to build this team into a weekly competitor, we are open to building custom packages to best meet the goals of businesses interested in getting involved in our family-owned team.“, Newlin said.

“Our partners become part of our racing family.  That’s the type of atmosphere we want to maintain in our pit area, at our shop and anywhere we go.”

Marketing partnership opportunities are available for the 2024 season!

Zach Newlin Derailed en Route To Top Ten Finish

Plans for More 410 Sprint Car Races in the Works

Mechancisburg, PA – September 25, 2023

Zach Newlin and the Mansberger Motorsports team have been working hard to solve some balance issues with the No.21m over the past month.  The team was running consistently inside the top ten and picked up one victory this summer, but has since been battling to get back to that level of consistency.

Friday night, the team rolled into Williams Grove Speedway for the final 358 sprint car race of the 2023 season at the legendary Pennsylvania oval.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  9/15/23

  • Event:  Final 358 Sprint Car Points Race of 2023
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  26 cars, Heat 2nd (5), A-Main 12th (6)

DIGGIN' EARLY

Newlin came out of the box, ready to be a factor Friday night.  Heat lineups were set using a handicapping format, which put the Millerstown, PA driver 5th to take the green.

As he is known to fans, Zach Daddy moved forward immediately and was holding down the runner-spot by lap three.  With the feature set to be lined up ‘heads up’ based on heat race finishes, Newlin went after leader Logan Rumsey but fell 0.850 seconds short at the finish line.

WELL, THAT'S UNFORTUNATE

Newlin started outside row three for the 20-lap main event and settled into the 6th spot in the early going.

As the race neared the midpoint, Newlin slipped to 8th but remained in a battle to climb further into the top ten.  Unfortunately, as he entered turn one on lap ten, contact with a competitor going for the same piece of real estate turned Newlin’s No.21m around.

With no damage, Newlin restarted at the rear of the field and made the most of the remaining ten laps, charging his way back to a 12th place finish, nearly completing a full recovery from the incident.

We had a good night going.  Hate that happened in the middle of the race.  I was committed to my line.  Just a racing deal.“, Newlin said.

We have been battling a tight condition and tonight we were too free.  We’ll keep working on it and find the balance we need.

Newlin and the Mansberger Motorsports team, who compiled five top-ten finishes and one win along the way, finished 6th in the Williams Grove Speedway 358 sprint car championship standings for the 2023 season.

I really want to thank Dan (Mansberger) for the opportunity to drive his car.  We got him back to victory lane this year and had a pretty good season.  Hoping we can come back next year with him and have an even better year.“, Newlin commented.

UP NEXT

Newlin’s 358 sprint car season may be over, but he still expects to squeeze in a couple more 410 sprint car races in his family’s familiar No.11z before the end of the year.

Newlin Makes Progress Late at Grove for Mansberger Motorsports

Mechancisburg, PA – September 18, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Zach Newlin returned to the seat of the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway for the annual Match Race, which offers an increased purse throughout the field.

The team was not only looking to claim some of the cash that was on the line, they were hoping to start a new streak of top ten finishes after losing their previous streak of five with a tough outing on September 1st.

QUICK RESULTS

  • Date:  9/15/23
  • Event:  Match Race
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  28 cars, Heat 8th (8), A-Main 14th (19)

TOUGH HOLE TO DIG OUT OF

Heat race lineups for the 28 358 sprint cars on hand were set using a handicapping format, which put Newlin 8th on the grid for the first heat of the night.  The top six finishers would transfer directly to the night’s main event, but the heavy, narrow track wasn’t very conducive for passing.  The Millerstown, PA driver finished where he started, 8th, and moved on to the B-main for another shot.

In the 10-lap B-main, Newlin started 4th and went on the charge from the drop of the green.  By lap two, he snagged the runner-up spot.  On lap five, he took the lead away from Nat Tuckey.  He never looked back and took the win by over four seconds.

The 25-lap Match Race A-main kicked off with Newlin in the 19th starting spot.  Once again, he started his forward progress from the outset.

Six laps in, Newlin was up to 15th.  On lap eleven, he moved into 14th.  The progress stalled there and Newlin finished 14th.

We weren’t horrible but the car was a little too tight.  We need to figure that out.“, Newlin said.

Newlin was alluding to a setup issue that the team has been battling the last few races.  Something has changed on the car since their hot streak over the summer and it has been a bit tricky to zero in on exactly what is causing the handling issues.

We’re hoping to be back here next Friday night and give it another shot.“, Newlin concluded.

UP NEXT

Newlin will tentatively return to Williams Grove Speedway Friday, September 22nd for the final 358 sprint car race of the 2023 season.

Stay tuned to Zach Newlin Racing’s social media outlets listed below or to Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the latest schedule information.

Zach Newlin Makes 410 Sprint Car Return at BAPS Motor Speedway

Along With 358 Sprint Duties, More 410 Races Planned Before Year Ends

York Haven, PA – August 29, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Zach Newlin has dabbled in 410 sprint cars over the last few seasons in the seat of a few different cars.  The opportunities came his way after several highly successful seasons at the wheel of his family’s 305 sprint car, follow by a successful debut season when the team moved up to the 358 sprint car division.

With an appetite that now had a taste for 410 sprint car competition, late in 2023 Newlin made the decision to resurrect the familiar 11z, but this time it would have a 410 engine under the hood.

Sunday night the team took the first on-track step in that journey.

QUICK RESULTS

  • Date:  8/27/23
  • Event:  Capitol Renegade Clash
  • Track:  BAPS Motor Speedway
  • City, State:   York Haven, PA
  • Quick Stats:  23 cars, Qualifying 7th in Group 3, Heat 7th (7), A-main 17th (21)

WORKING OUT THE KINKS

Newlin was forced to dive right in Sunday night.  Group time trials set the heat lineups for the 23-car field, so his first laps in the Ron’s RV Sales, Butler Hill Maple Farm, Tuscarora Roofing Co., Dillman Hauling, FIT Transportation, Grove Financial & Associates, Precision Auto Repair Services, Snyders Knob, Christine Booker Realtor, Newlin Bar Service No.11z were on the clock.

After timing 7th quick in group 3, Newlin started and finished 7th in heat three as well.

Newlin took what he learned from those laps, discussed the information with brother Lance Newlin, and the pair made adjustments for the 30-lap finale.  It made a difference.  He was able to climb as high as 16th during the first half of the race and ultimately finished 17th.

It’s good to be back at the track with the family team.  We have been working on building this RPM car all year as finances allowed.  The final piece was the engine.  We didn’t even get a chance to come out and test, so tonight was like a test for us.“, Newlin said.

It took some time to get comfortable tonight but we definitely made a lot of progress by the end of the night.  There are a couple components I want to change before we race again.  Hopefully we can use the rest of this year to shake the car down so we have something solid to start 2024 with.

UP NEXT

Zach will be back in 358 sprint car action in the Mansberger Motorsports No. 21m at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, September 1st looking to continue their climb up the season point standings at the track.  Newlin currently sits 5th on that list.

While Newlin is still considering possibly racing at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night September 2nd, his next 410 sprint car race will likely be Port Royal Speedway’s Labor Day Classic.

Newlin says his tentative 410 sprint car schedule includes the remaining races at BAPS Motor Speedway and possibly a couple other races.

TRIVIA QUESTION

The answer to our last trivia question is Zach won the Hard Charger Award at Port Royal Speedway’s Labor Day Classic in 2020 and repeated the feat in 2021!

Now, on to this week’s question!  In 305 sprint car competition, how many top ten finishes did Zach accumulate over the 2016-2019 seasons?

A.  Between 50-60

B.  Between 65-75

C.  Between 80-90

D.  More than 100

The answer in the next press release!
