Reinhardt Will Focus On Making the Most of His Resources

After Finishing 2022 With Momentum, the Team Is Aiming To Pick up Where They Left Off

From the seats in the grandstand, it may appear like business as usual for Kyle Reinhardt when he kicks off his 2023 season with the familiar No.91 bearing the Capitol Custom Trailers and Coaches logo on the side, but things will be a little different than the past couple seasons.

The loss of a key partner meant a lot of unplanned activity for Reinhardt during the offseason.  With fewer overall resources, he will focus on making the most of what he has by planning his schedule strategically as the 2023 season unfolds.

Keep Digging

Reinhardt is prepared to compete at a high level.  He has spent a lot of time preparing his equipment, but he has also spent a lot of time making calls and sending emails, looking for new partnerships to help build his program.

“I would like to race 100 nights this season, but right now our resources and funding won’t support that.  We have to make smart decisions about when and where it make sense for us to race to give us the best chance to make money.  That’s the honest answer.“, Reinhardt shared.

“I am working hard to find partnerships that will allow us to expand our schedule.  We have a program that can represent and promote a business to really increase their visibility.  Working together can be a win-win for both our team and the right business.  We will keep working and eventually find that partner.“

 

Performance

Reinhardt made changes to his program late in the 2022 season after struggling most of the year.  Those adjustments led to the most consistent and best performances of the season.

Reinhardt believes the team can pick up where it left off despite everything else that has happened.

“We will start the year on the same car and shock package we were running at the end of 2022.  We were running well on that combination, so we will have that to build on.“, Reinhardt shared.

“We aren’t far from where we need to be.  I have got three good engines in the stable and two complete cars, plus one extra Maxim chassis.  We are just looking for that additional help to put us to the next level.“

 

The Plans

Reinhardt will kick off his 2023 campaign this weekend with stops at Lincoln Speedway (PA) on Saturday and Port Royal Speedway (PA) on Sunday in the Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Henry’s Wrecker No.91.

This season provides a unique opportunity to compete at four World of Outlaws (WoO) sprint car races, dubbed the Spring Showdown, in Pennsylvania in the month of March.  Reinhardt plans to hit them all.

The traveling series will conduct a two-day show at Port Royal Speedway on March 10th-11th, followed by stops at Williams Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway on March 17th and 18th respectively.

Reinhardt also plans to enter competition at BAPS Motor Speedway on March 26th at the March Sprint Madness.

“We have a plan for the month of March, but we will have a very loose schedule this year.  We will reevaluate our plans every couple weeks and adjust our schedule as we go.  We have to do what makes the most sense for us each week.”

Along with a steady diet of Central Pennsylvania racing, Reinhardt plans to travel some for World of Outlaw, All Star and High Limit series events when possible.

Austin Berry’s super late model program has been on a steady trend in the right direction the last couple years.  It is the result of working hard to build a program the right way, on a solid foundation of knowledge and support.

Berry and his team may have worked harder this offseason than any recent stretch of time.  They continued to build depth in their equipment, parts and support.

All of this combined will keep Berry at the track without the concern of missing races due to failures.  More racing means more opportunity to learn and thus hopefully continued improvement.

 

Welcome Back

A key piece of the puzzle is primary partner The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, who returns for their second full season in support of Austin Berry Racing.

The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg is a family-owned, full-service automotive business that has been serving a loyal customer base for over 54 years. New Partners

The team’s efforts on the track last season, combined with their efforts off the track over the winter, have led to several new partnerships and relationships.

Austin Berry Racing would like to welcome Juniata Veterinary Clinic to the team!  The Juniata Veterinary Clinic has been delivering exceptional veterinary care to the animals of Juniata and Mifflin Counties for over 30 years. Their 3-doctor team treats animals of all types and ages, providing a full range of services to ensure that the animals in their community can get all the care they need and deserve.

“It means a lot to have a local business in your own back yard want to be a part of what you’re doing.  I am thrilled to have Michaela and Juniata Veterinary Clinic on board.“, Berry said.

In addition, the team previously announced new partnerships with SRI Performance, VP Race Fuels and GO Lithium.  Each of these key partners has brought knowledge, great products and tremendous support to the team.

The team’s growth didn’t stop there.  They have established several new product partner relationships, including Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Peterson Fluid Systems, Barnes Systems, Quick Car, Sweet Manufacturing, BDR Racing Products, Beyea Headers, Strange Oval, Quarter Master and P3 Graphix.

 

The Bread and Butter

The foundation of Austin Berry Racing’s on-track program remains unchanged from the past two seasons.  They will continue competing in their Rocket Chassis XR1 on JDS Racing/Penske Racing Shocks with A&C Racing Engines power under the hood.

The good news going into the 2023 season is the team will kick things off with both motors fresh and ready.

 

New Destinations

Berry and his team are targeting around 40 races on their tentative schedule if all were to go well, but how many races they can actually take on will depend on how the season unfolds.  

Port Royal Speedway in Pennsylvania will be the team’s primary home with 19 races scheduled there from early March through early September.

The team will also make stops at familiar tracks Hagerstown and Bedford for big events like the Billy Winn Classic, the Turk Burkett Tribute, the Frank Sagi Tribute, the Gary Martz Memorial, the Nathan Durboraw Tribute and some Lucas Oil Late Model events.

New on this year’s schedule, the team is aiming to venture to Georgetown (DE) and Marion Center (PA) for Lucas Oil and World of Outlaw events.  They are also tentatively looking at traveling to Western Pennsylvania for a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model events at Lernerville Speedway (Firecracker 100) and Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway (Pittsburgher 100).

The part of the schedule the team may be looking forward to the most is the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek for super late models.  The series will consist of 8 races spanning 10 days across Central Pennsylvania and into Maryland.  The series will stop at Clinton County, Port Royal, Hagerstown, Path Valley, Beford (2 shows), Lincoln and Selinsgrove speedways.

 

Racing For Time Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Campaign

Five years ago, on the 10th anniversary of the loss of his grandfather to pancreatic cancer, Austin Berry decided to dedicate the 2018 season to his late grandfather by racing a purple car and working all season long to raise money for and awareness of the dreadful disease that has only a 9% survival rate, far lower than most other forms of cancer.

Berry committed to honor his late grandfather every five seasons in the same way.  It is now 2023 and it is time to break out the purple once again.  Throughout the season fans will be able to enter to win some unique items, such as Berry’s driving gloves, a tail banner, and body panels from the car.  There will also be apparel available and decals, which fans can sign in memory of a loved one and then place on the deck of Berry’s No.86 where it will ride all season long.  All of these fun opportunities will raise money for PanCan.org.

“This campaign means a lot to me, my mom and my entire family.  My grandfather was a big part of my start in racing, so it gives us a way to honor him, but it also allows us to help spread the word about warning signs of pancreatic cancer and maybe help someone recognize the signs before it is too late.“, Berry shared.

“Unfortunately, we know too many people who have been affected by pancreatic cancer.  We share an unfortunate experience, so when they find out what we are doing, they want to help however they can.”

The name of the campaign, ‘Racing For Time’, stems from the fact that most cases of pancreatic cancer are not discovered until they reach stage 4, leading to a mere 9% five-year survival rate.  There is no blood test that can detect the disease.  It goes undiscovered until it has advanced enough to cause noticeable symptoms.  Therefore, patients have little time.  Berry hopes increasing awareness and raising funds for research will lead to patients having more time, thus he is ‘Racing For Time’.

The team will release more details about the campaign in the coming weeks.

The Story Behind Kody Hartlaub’s New Number and New Adventures

Team Builds Depth On Heels of Very Productive and Consistent 2022 Season

A team coming off a season as good as Kody Hartlaub Racing’s 2022 season typically wouldn’t change their program much, but the word ‘new’ is popping up a lot for the East Berlin, PA resident this offseason.

For example:  New shop.  New website.  New number.  New baby.

New Division?  More on that later.

 

Fatherhood

That’s right.  Kody Hartlaub recently became a father.  The proud dad and wife Audrey have a healthy, happy new daughter. Addison Anne, who was born on January 13, 2023.

“Fatherhood is nothing like I expected but everything I expected at the same time. It’s definitely a change of pace but I love it and can’t wait to get her to the races.”, Hartlaub shared.

New Digs!

Before the arrival of the family’s new addition, Hartlaub was busy guiding the construction of the team’s new race shop.

Hartlaub had been renting a shop with Alan Krimes for two years, but with Krimes buying a house and moving his stuff into his own shop, it was time for Hartlaub to do the same.

“I’m thankful for my parents for going ahead and building it and my sponsors Pat (Brewer Home Improvements) and Meradith (Herr Electric) for all the time and work they put in to help make the new shop possible.”, Hartlaub said.

New Number?

The most surprising new thing for most folks might be the number that adorns the wing of the Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Kody Hartlaub Racing machine.

In 2023 the 358ci sprint car will carry the number 95, and there’s a good reason for it.

Hartlaub’s number from his days in R/C, karting and up through the ranks was 95.  When he got an opportunity to step into the 358ci sprint car division, it was in a No.11, so he rolled with it.

After taking 2019 off from racing, Hartlaub came back under the wing (pun intended) of Jim and Steve Siegel. With all the help and knowledge they passed down, Hartlaub decided racing with the familiar Steve Siegel No.2 on his wing was one of the best ways to say “Thank you”. That remained the case through the 2022 season.

In 2023, Jim Sielgel’s son, Jude, will step into the 358ci sprint car ranks.  Hartlaub felt the right thing to do was give up the number so Jude could race it to keep up the family tradition.

With that, Hartlaub will return to his original No.95 where it all began.

 

A Look Back

2022 was a solid year for Hartlaub.   His stats are well-documented.  Hartlaub garnered a 2nd place finish in Lincoln Speedway’s Championship Point standings, earned the Williams Grove Speedway 358 sprint car Rookie of the Year award, finished 2nd in the 358 Summer Series points, and finished 5th in the season championship point standings at Williams Grove Speedway.

A great year, but the driven Hartlaub sees what’s missing:  wins and championships.  He will look to remedy that in 2023.

 

A Look Ahead

A goal of Hartlaub’s in 2022 was to improve the depth of his program.  You win championships by being prepared; never being sidelined.  

Those were the thoughts that drove Hartlaub and his team to compile depth in their parts last season, now in the off-season they have assembled two complete cars with motors, thus achieving the next goal in their building process.

“Our goals for the 358 for 2023 are to go each week and contend for wins. We won’t worry about points as much. That may mean in certain situations we take more calculated chances instead of points racing.”, Hartlaub shared.

 

Moving On Up!

While his will focus on his 358 schedule at Lincoln and Williams Grove, the big news is that Hartlaub will look to expand his 410 sprint car experience.  The team has acquired a 410 engine and plans to compete in a handful of races, maybe 5-10 events, on off weekends for the 358 division.

Hartlaub’s expectations are not lofty.  This will be about learning and building something the right way.

 

“My goal in the 410 is just to learn as much as possible at the select shows we choose to run.  My goal every time I hit the track will be to be better than the last time.“, Hartlaub said.

As if he didn’t have enough on his plate this off-season, Hartlaub also oversaw the project of developing a new website for his team.  KodyHartlaub.com is live and will serve as a great place for fans to follow his 2023 season and pick up their favorite merchandise!

Brooke Tatnell to Join Sandvig Motorsports as Driver for 2023 Racing Season

Mike Sandvig Motorsports is proud to announce that Brooke Tatnell has been named the new driver of the No. 7 410 Sprint Car for the 2023 racing season.

After Justin Henderson departed the ride after a successful four year partnership, Sandvig found himself in the unusual spot of looking for a driver this offseason. With a team that’s been as competitive in the Midwest as any team over the last four seasons, Sandvig had no shortage of interest and phone calls over the winter.

However, one name stuck out and that was the Sans Souci, NSW, Australian native of Tatnell. With more than 250 career combined 410 and 360 Sprint Car victories over a lengthy career and a familiarity with the Midwestern tracks Sandvig’s car regularly competes at, it was an easy choice.

Throw in the fact that Tatnell has competed full-time on the World of Outlaws tour, with a career-best sixth-place finish in the standings in 2006 and 15 victories with the series, and that he’s captured a win during the prestigious Knoxville Nationals in 2006 during their World Challenge, it was clear Tatnell would provide Sandvig with the type of driver he was looking for to be able to challenge for wins on the grandest of stages.

“Brooke has been very successful over the years and his experience gives us the best shot to compete,” said Mike Sandvig, car owner. “He’s a guy who is good on equipment and will give you a chance no matter who we’re competing against and that’s really exciting to know.”

Ironically enough it was Tatnell who topped Henderson and Sandvig by a mere three points last season to deny them a second consecutive Huset’s Speedway track championship on the final night of the season.

It was a big night for Tatnell and his car owners and proved that the veteran driver could still get it done behind the wheel when the stakes were high. It also proved to be a moment that stuck in his mind when Sandvig was considering drivers for this season.

“Brooke may be a veteran but make no mistake about it he is eager to win and is as hungry as ever,” said Sandvig. “Just in watching how he competes and in talking to him, I feel like when it comes down to it, he gives us the best shot to win with what we are trying to accomplish this season.”

The current plan is to continue to focus mainly on the Midwestern scene with local events, when possible, but Sandvig isn’t just looking to capture trophies locally with Tatnell. The team also plans to compete semi-regularly with the World of Outlaws in regional shows along with the possibility of several High Limit Series events.

Tatnell will continue his normal driving duties behind the wheel of the DeWall No. 16 team running a similar schedule as last season as well.

Knowing he has a driver capable of not only making shows and competing, but one with experience at tracks all over the country that will allow for them to challenge for wins in large-paying shows, has Sandvig most excited about the partnership in 2023.

Kyle Reinhardt Rebuilding in 2023, Splits With McCall

When the 2023 season opens for Kyle Reinhardt, some things will seem familiar, but the new year will bring changes.

 

The biggest change:  Jeff McCall and Reinhardt split a few weeks ago. The team spent the past two seasons traveling with the All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) and supplemented their schedule with other races when time allowed, amassing over seventy events entered each season.

 

The combination had moderate success, including Reinhardt’s first ASCoC victory and a pair of eighth place finishes in the ASCoC Championship point standings. More importantly, they were accumulating resources and building the depth of their program. McCall’s departure is on good terms but nonetheless it sets Reinhardt’s program back a few steps.

 

“We were slowly building something solid the last couple seasons and we had things going the right direction the last couple months of this past season, but now we will need to restart the building process in certain ways,” Reinhardt commented.

 

“Jeff’s departure means we will start 2023 without some of the parts, engines, and key components that I have been able to rely on the last two years.”  He will not have any full time employees either.

 

On the familiar side of things, Capitol Renegade, who has been with Reinhardt since 2017, will remain a key partner.

 

“On a positive note, we will start the year on the same car and shock package we were running at the end of 2022.  We were running well on that combination, so we will have that to build on.“, Reinhardt shared.

 

The schedule will look a little different for Reinhardt in 2023. It will primarily consist of races in Pennsylvania, along with some travel for World of Outlaw, All Star and High Limit series events when possible. Exactly which events, and the total number of events, the team enters will be dependent on securing additional funding.

 

Reinhardt is open to a partnership that will enable him to rebuild the depth of his team, as well as enable him to run all the events on his tentative schedule.

 

“I am open to conversations about help, funding, or opportunities. I was hoping to kick off the season in Georgia with the All Stars, but given the current crew help situation and resources available, we will probably delay the start of our season to early March.,” Reinhardt said.

Kyle Reinhardt Captures Career Best World Finals Finish on Opening Night; Misses Field on Final Night

Kyle Reinhardt unloaded his Capitol Renegade / Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers / Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants / J&J Auto Racing No.91 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC last week with his team’s performance trending in the right direction.  

 

That trend, combined with two A-main appearances in the 2021 edition of the World Finals, had the Capitol Renegade team feeling optimistic about their chances to finish out the 2022 season on a positive note.

  

November 2:  World Finals / The Dirt Track at Charlotte / Concord, NC  [52 cars, Qualifying 9th Flight A, Heat 6th (5), B-main 2nd (3), A-main 13th (22)]

 

Opening night brought 52 teams to compete in the 4-day World of Outlaws sanctioned event.  This year’s scheduled called for the sprint car teams to compete on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.  

 

Teams would compete in full shows on Wednesday and Friday, then heat races for Saturday’s finale would be lined up by points accumulated during the previous two races.

Reinhardt’s night got off to a good start when he registered the 9th quickest lap of the 26 cars to go under the clock in Flight A qualifying.  The effort provided him with the inside row three starting spot in heat number one.
 
With the top five finishers from the 8-lap race transferring directly to the Wednesday night A-main, Reinhardt was in position to capitalize.  That said, the spot would still need to be earned, especially given the stout field on hand.
 
Tyler Courtney was able to win the 3rd row battle for the 5th spot on the opening lap and Reinhardt wasn’t able to wrestle it away.  He settled for a 6th place finish, which relegated him to the B-main for his final shot to make the night’s finale.
 
From his 3rd starting spot in the B-main, Reinhardt needed to record a top four finish to transfer to the main event.  From the drop of the green on the 12-lap race, he made it clear he was going to control his own destiny.
 
Reinhardt grabbed the lead by using the high side on the opening lap and went on to build a comfortable lead for most of the race.  As the race reached the closing laps, Brent Marks powered his way into the runner up position and began to put pressure on the leader.
 
Strategy was on display as Reinhardt took the low line away from Marks as the pair sailed into turn three with just over two laps remaining.  
 
Reinhardt held the lead for another lap, then Marks edged in front briefly before the Neptune City, NJ native drove back under him going into turn three on the final lap.  Marks turned under Reinhardt off turn four and beat the Capitol Renegade No.91 to the line by 0.375 seconds.  It was an exciting few laps, but in the end all that mattered was Reinhardt was in the show.
 
From his 22nd starting spot in the 30-lap A-main, Reinhardt appeared to struggle in the early going.  He dropped as far as 26th before finding a rhythm and some room to race.  The forward progress started on lap seven.  
 
Reinhardt reached the 19th spot on lap thirteen, but it took another ten laps before the car and the track would really come to him.  On lap twenty three he turned his fastest lap of the race.  Over the final five laps, he rolled the bottom with great success, climbing from 18th all the way to 13th at the checkered flag.
 
The finish was a career best for Reinhardt at the World Finals, improving on his 2021 result by a few spots.
 
November 4:  World Finals / The Dirt Track at Charlotte / Concord, NC  [52 cars, Qualifying 10th Flight B, Heat 10th (5), C-main 3rd (4)]

 

Friday’s second chance to accumulate points started off very similar to Wednesday for Reinhardt, who registered the 10th quickest lap of the 26 drivers to hit the track in Flight B.  Once again, he would take the green for his heat race from the 5th starting spot, needing only to remain in the top five to transfer to the main event.

 

The opening lap of heat number four is where Reinhardt’s week took a turn the wrong direction.  A bunched up start led to a four wide situation in turn one, forcing his No.91 above the cushion.  He managed to avoid contact but rolled to a stop, bringing out the caution.

 

Reinhardt was able to restart and join the rear of the field, but it would be tough to recover the track position in a short eight laps.  He finished a distant 10th, dropping him into the C-main and leaving him with slim odds of making his way to the A-main.

 

Reinhardt would need to finish first or second in the 10-lap C-main to advance to the B-main.  From his starting spot outside row two, he claimed the 3rd position on the opening lap.  He was unable to close the gap enough on runner up Eric Riggins to mount a serious challenge.

 

Reinhardt’s night ended much earlier than expected with the 3rd place C-main finish.  The real price of the disappointing night was a low point total to add to his solid first night, which would make Saturday night’s main event slightly more difficult to reach.

 

November 5:  World Finals / The Dirt Track at Charlotte / Concord, NC  [52 cars, Heat 7th (7), B-main 8th (9)]

 

Saturday’s program consisted of four 11-car heat races.  The top ten starters were set heads-up by points from the first two night, and they were joined by a top four finisher from the non-qualifier’s race that opened the night.  The top five finishers from each heat race would move on to the A-main, and the remaining teams would compete in a B-main for the final four starting spots.

 

The ripple effect of Friday’s heat race troubles was clear.  Reinhardt’s two day point total placed him 7th in heat number four.  He took 6th on lap two with a slide job on Kraig Kinser and set his sights on the final transfer spot.  At the halfway point, Kinser forced his way back around the No.91 off turn four.  Reinhardt couldn’t mount another challenge and settled for a 7th place finish.

 

The B-main would be an uphill climb for Reinhardt, needing to reach the top four in twelve short laps from his 9th starting spot to make the show.  He gave it everything he had, climbing has high as 7th by the time the caution flag appeared with three laps complete.

 

The ensuing restart didn’t go Reinhardt’s way.  He lost the track position he had gained, slipping back to 9th again.  In the closing laps he raced his way back into 8th but that’s where the week, and season, came to an end.

 

“We had decent speed this week.  We weren’t great but things just didn’t go our way Friday and we got behind.  I want to give a shout out to Cheerwine, Carolina Beverage Corp and Arthur Carver IV for coming on board this week to help us out at the World Finals.  I also want to say thank you to Capitol Renegade, Champion Hi-Tech Lubricant’s, Henry’s Wrecker Service and all our other partners who have supported us all season.“, Reinhardt commented.

 

“Overall our season wasn’t up to our expectations, but with the speed we found the past month we feel better going into the offseason.  We feel like we have something to build on for 2023.”

Reinhardt Tallies Runner Up and 5th Place Finishes in Solid Weekend at Bridgeport Motorsports Park in Home State of NJ

2022 Season Will Conclude at World Finals in Charlotte, NC This Week

Kyle Reinhardt has definitely found speed again.

 

Coming into a late October two-race weekend in his home state of New Jersey, his month already included three top five finishes at three different tracks, one of those on the podium.

 

‘Sprinttoberfest’ at Bridgeport Motorsports Park in Swedesboro, NJ provided Reinhardt with two more shots in October to continue building momentum before heading south to compete at the World Finals in Charlotte, NC in early November. 

 

He capitalized on both opportunities.

  

October 29:  Sprintoberfest / Bridgeport Motorsports Park / Swedesboro, NJ  [25 cars, Qualifying 1st Group 1, Heat 4th (3), Dash 5th (5) A-main 5th (5)]

 

Reinhardt has expressed his love of the new 4-tenths mile configuration at Bridgeport ever since it opened a few years ago.  He has been fast on the high-banked surface, including a runner-up finish in the ‘Invasion of the Posse’ event back in April of this year in his Capitol Renegade / Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers / Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants / J&J Auto Racing No.91.

 

Bridgeport Motorsports Park Sprintoberfest Format Details

 

Reinhardt’s draw placed him in group one.  He promptly laid down a lap of 12.786, quickest in the group, which put him inside row two to start heat number one and guaranteed him a spot in the dash redraw.

 

The Neptune City, NJ native finished 4th in his 8-lap heat race, drew the #5 starting spot for the dash, and finished in the same position in the 5-lap event.

 

Reinhardt started 5th in the 25-lap A-main and began to make moves early on.  He claimed the 4th spot at the start and held onto it through the first six laps before wrestling the 3rd spot away from Sye Lynch on lap seven.  Lynch battled back a lap later and took the podium spot back from Reinhardt.

 

Meanwhile, Gio Scelzi was closing in to become part of the battle.  He worked his way past Reinhardt to take 4th on lap ten, dropping the Capitol Renegade No.91 to 5th, where he would finish the event 

 

October 30:  Sprintoberfest / Bridgeport Motorsports Park / Swedesboro, NJ  [26 cars, Qualifying 1st Group 3, Heat 4th (3), Dash 6th (5), A-main 2nd (6)]

 

Sunday’s field grew by one to 26 cars, but the format remained the same as Saturday.

 

Sunday’s draw put Reinhardt in group three, but the result was no different.  Once again, he was quickest in his group, this time with a lap of 12.687.  The 8-lap heat race and redraw were like Deja vu as well, as Reinhardt started 3rd and finished 4th in the heat, then drew the 5th starting spot for the dash.

 

Reinhardt finished 6th in the dash, putting him outside row three to start the 40-lap finale.  Once again he got right to work, moving forward into the 5th spot on the opening lap.  He raced 5th for the majority of the first half of the race, slipping to 6th only briefly in the early going.

 

On lap twenty three, Reinhardt worked his way into the 4th spot, then found himself in the runner up spot with Gio Scelzi in front and Danny Dietrich on his heels with fifteen laps remaining.  

 

With Devin Borden and Lance Dewease also in the top five, there was no room for error during the final dozen circuits.  Reinhardt was up to the challenge and came home with the runner up finish, 1.288 seconds behind Scelzi. Dewease, Borden and Dietrich rounded out the top five.

 

“It was great to run up front both nights in front of a lot of family and friends.  I’m happy about the consistent speed we have found lately.  We’re running well, but we still have a little work to do to get the car into victory lane again.  Hopefully we can keep that going in Charlotte next week to finish out our season.“, Reinhardt commented.

 

Up Next

 

Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team will wrap up their 2022 season with a trip to the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  The team will compete in the World of Outlaws sanctioned event on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, November 2nd, 4th and 5th.

 

In 2021, Reinhardt made the A-main on both Friday and Saturday night at Charlotte, recording finishes of 14th and 20th.  This week he will look to improve on last year’s successful trip.

Home State Racing at Bridgeport Motorsports Park in NJ on Tap This Weekend

Kyle Reinhardt wrapped up his second All Star Circuit of Champions season two weeks ago with a podium finish to solidify an 8th place finish in the series’ points.  Following a weekend off for himself and the team, the Capitol Renegade / Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers / Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants / J&J Auto Racing No.91 was back in action twice this past weekend.

 

Friday night Reinhardt put a successful run in the books at BAPS Motor Speedway, then headed to Williams Grove Speedway on Saturday night for the rescheduled $75,000-to-win Champion Racing Oil National Open, sanctioned by the World of Outlaws.

 

October 21:  The Night Before / BAPS Motor Speedway / York Haven, PA  [27 cars, Qualifying 5th, Heat 5th (5), A-main5th (15)]

 

Originally scheduled to race 410 sprint cars on Saturday night, BAPS Motor Speedway moved their event to Friday night and dubbed it ‘The Night Before’, in reference to the National Open that had been rescheduled to the October 22nd date as the result of an October 1st rainout.

 

The 27 cars on hand were split into three groups for qualifying and heat races to set the field for the 30-lap main event.  In some very close competition under the clock, Reinhardt timed 5th quick in group 3, just 0.005 seconds behind 4th fastest Dylan Norris.

 

Reinhardt started and finished 5th in an uneventful 10-lap heat race number three, which put him 15th on the starting grid for the $6,000-to-win A-main.

 

The Neptune City, NJ native wasted no time charging inside the top ten by lap five, then chipped away to reach 8th by the halfway point.  Reinhardt was still holding down the 8th spot with four laps to go.

 

Things got wild on a restart with three laps remaining.  Contact between two cars near the front of the field caused a multi-car incident which nearly collected Reinhardt.  After initial impact caused the front end of his No.91 to point skyward, he was somehow able to gather it up, keep it out of the wall, and skirt the melee on the high side.

 

Reinhardt restarted 6th following the incident and was able to grab 5th to record the top five finish.

 

October 22:  National Open / Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA  [44 cars, Qualifying 11th in Group B, Heat 5th (6), B-main 2nd (6)]

 

The following night, fans and teams finally gathered at Williams Grove Speedway after a three week wait for night number two of the lucrative National Open.

 

The World of Outlaw sanctioned event used two qualifying flights and four heat races, followed by a C-main and B-main, to set the field for the $75,000-to-win event.

 

Reinhardt registered the 11th best lap in Group B qualifying, lining him up 6th in heat number three.  The top five finishers would transfer directly to the night’s finale.

 

After jumping into the 5th and final transfer spot on the opening lap, Logan Schuchart slipped by off turn two a lap later, dropping Reinhardt to 6th.  One lap later, Kyle charged under Schuchart’s No.1s as the pair dove into turn three1.  Reinhardt powered off turn four with the advantage, taking back the transfer spot.

 

A restart at the halfway point didn’t work in Reinhardt’s favor.  Schuchart was able to wrestle the spot away again.  Reinhardt finished 6th, relegating the Capitol Renegade team to the B-main for a final shot at making the show.

 

Reinhardt started on the outside of the front row in the 12-lap B-main and needed to secure a top four finish to put himself in the 40-lap A-main.  Dylan Norris slipped by on the opening lap, dropping Reinhardt to 3rd.

 

A lap two caution and the ensuing double-file restart cost Reinhardt another spot when Matt Campbell got by.  A hard-charging Corey Eliason then began to pressure Reinhardt for the final transfer spot.  Ultimately both Eliason and Dylan Cisney found their way past the Capitol Renegade No.91, putting an end to Reinhardt’s night with a 6th place finish.

 

“I’m happy with our performance at BAPS (Motor Speedway).  We kept it on track to a top five.  We have racked up several of those the last few weeks, so we’ve got things going the right direction.“, Reinhardt commented.  “A few slip ups at The Grove cost us a starting spot.“

 

“I’m excited for a weekend of 410 racing in NJ.  It’s always good to get back home where we see a lot of family and friends.“

The Capitol Renegade team will make the tow to Reinhardt’s home state of NJ to compete at Bridgeport Speedway in their ‘Sprinttoberfest’ event on Saturday and Sunday, October 29-30 in the 410 sprint division.

Hartlaub Continues Steady Top Performances in October

Kody Hartlaub has had one of the most consistent seasons a driver and team could ask for during the 2022 season in the 358 sprint car division in Central Pennsylvania.

 

That doesn’t mean anything came easy.  There have been plenty of nights that were an uphill climb.  The East Berlin, PA driver and his team never quit though, no matter the situation.  They battled to the end each night, passed a ton of cars over the course of the season, and as a result put together an impressive season statistically.

 

When the final races of the season were in the books, Hartlaub had logged 23 starts and had never finished outside the top 15.  Of those, 19 were top 10’s and 11 were top 5’s.  Stats like that are not easy to achieve racing weekly at Lincoln Speedway where the average field is 30 cars.

 

October 8:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     [37 cars, Heat 1st (1), A-main 4th (7)]

 

The Brewer Home Improvements / Moose Blocks / Smith Titanium / SRR Engines / Siegel Racing / T and N Solutions / Jason Emlet Iron Valley Real Estate / Bigham Appraisals / Pretzel Boy / HAAS Shocks / C.H. Folk & Son Feeds / Chop Designs / Herr Electric, Hartlaub Racing No.2 was part of a deep, 37-car field that signed in for action at Lincoln Speedway on October 8th.

 

The large field set up five 8-lap heat races for the 358 sprint cars, with lineups set by pill draw.  The top four finishers would transfer to the A-main, with the top two making the handicap.  To qualify for the handicap, drivers need to have established a points average by participating in at least one previous race at the track this season.

 

Hartlaub had a favorable pill draw, something that had not happened much this season.  He started from the pole of the fifth and final heat race and never looked back, taking the win by nearly 3.5 seconds.

 

The handicap format put Hartlaub 7th on the starting grid for the 20-lap A-main.  The first half of the feature event did not go according to plan, as he dropped back into the thick of a battle for 8th and 9th.  

 

Once again, Hartlaub found his rhythm and began to march forward in the second half of the race.  He surged into 6th with just three laps remaining and climbed to 4th by the time the checkered flag fell on the event.

 

October 15:  Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     [30 cars, Heat 4th (1), A-main 6th (13)]

 

The season finale for the 358 sprint cars at Lincoln Speedway drew yet another 30-car field, setting up four 8-lap heat races.  The top five finishers from each would transfer directly to the A-main, with the top two handicapped to set the first four rows of the feature event.

 

Hartlaub’s pill draw luck continued, this time landing him on the pole of the first heat.  Things didn’t go as well as the week before though.  The start was a little ragged, leaving Hartlaub off the throttle just long enough to cost him a couple spots.  Combine that with a car that was a bit too tight, and you get a 4th place finish.

 

Having missed his opportunity to start inside first four rows via the handicap, Hartlaub had his work cut out for him from the 13th starting spot in the 20-lap A-main.

 

Hartlaub wasted no time from the drop of the green, picking off competitors lap by lap and charging to 6th by lap sixteen.  He was on the verge of advancing into the top five when a caution appeared with three laps remaining.  

 

Restarts are typically a good opportunity for good cars to make up track position and make moves.  It didn’t work out that way for Hartlaub on this night.  When the race resumed, his tires didn’t seem to ‘fire’ and he was simply holding his ground, which he did, crossing the line 6th to wrap up the season.

 

“After putting myself behind the 8-ball early, I was glad to go forward in the A-Main and seal off 2nd in the championship.“, Hartlaub commented.

 

“Proud of my entire team, family, and sponsors for everything we have accomplished this year. Week in and week out we were one of the most consistent finishers.  Bummed I couldn’t pick up a win for my guys this year, but that just makes us push and drive harder over the off season for next year.”

 

Achievements

 

As Hartlaub alluded to, Saturday night’s finish solidified a 2nd place finish in Lincoln Speedway’s Championship Point standings for the 2022 season, a significant accomplishment for the young driver.  In 2018 Hartlaub logged what was almost a full season, but then sat on the sidelines in 2019 and raced a very sparse schedule in 2020.  Finally, in 2021, everything fell into place for the Littlestown, PA native to run a full season.  

 

Hartlaub soaked up a lot of knowledge in 2021 and he put it to use in 2022.  He adds the 2nd place at Lincoln Speedway to a list of achievements for the season.  He also earned the Williams Grove Speedway 358 sprint car Rookie of the Year award, finished 2nd in the 358 Summer Series points, and finished 5th in the season championship point standings at Williams Grove Speedway.

Reinhardt On the Podium at Fremont to Close Out 2022 All Star Season

Three Race Weekend Also Included Top 5 Finish at Lincoln Speedway

Coming off a week that included two rainouts and a subpar National Open prelim night, Kyle Reinhardt was more than ready to strap back into the seat of his Capitol Renegade / Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers / Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants / J&J Auto Racing No.91 and get back to work.

 

In recent weeks the Capitol Renegade team had been showing glimpses of their old speed again, and you can’t get faster sitting at the shop.  Three opportunities were on the docket last week for Reinhardt.  First up was the Brian Montieth Classic, just a mile or so down the road from the team’s shop at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA.

 

October 6:  Brian Montieth Classic / Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA [36 cars, Qualifying 12th, Heat 1st (2), A-main 5th (4)]

 

Thursday night’s event used a single group qualifying format for the 36 cars on hand.  Heat lineups would be set by inverting the top four, with the balance of the lineup heads up by time.  The top five finishers from each of four heats would transfer to the A-main, with the top two making the redraw.  If the quick timer in the race could win, only the winner would be in the redraw.

 

Reinhardt was 27th in line but clocked in 12th quickest in the field, which put him outside the front row for the start of the fourth heat.  He blasted to the lead at the drop of the green, survived a late restart and led all 10 laps, enroute to a 1.5 second victory over Chad Trout.

 

The redraw produced the number four pill for Reinhardt, placing him outside the second row for the 35-lap A-main.  With Gio Scelzi and Brian Brown leading the field to the green, Reinhardt beat third-starting Dylan Norris to the low side of turn one and claimed 3rd on the opening lap.

 

The low side was good to Reinhardt for the first five laps, but on lap six, he moved to the high side as Justin Peck closed on his rear bumper.  Reinhardt closed the gap on second place Brian Brown and the trio waged an intense battle until the caution appeared with seven laps complete.

 

Reinhardt blasted under Brown entering turn one on the restart and immediately put distance between himself and the Missouri driver.  One lap later, the caution appeared yet again.

 

On the ensuing restart, Reinhardt held a firm grasp on the runner up spot, again pulling away from Brown by two seconds.  Scelzi was even better, putting several car lengths between himself and Reinhardt’s No.91.

 

Reinhardt began to close on Scelzi when he caught lapped traffic with twenty laps remaining, but he could not quite get close enough to challenge for the lead.  While this was going on at the front, Buddy Kofoid moved into third, with Justin Peck now fourth and Brown fifth.

 

Kofoid wrestled the spot away from Reinhardt on lap 25 and one lap later Peck got by as well, dropping Reinhardt from 2nd to 4th in the span of two laps.  

 

Reinhardt regrouped and set his sights on Peck.  Meanwhile, Danny Dietrich had moved into 5th just before the yellow lights flashed on with two laps remaining.  On the ensuing restart, Reinhardt seemed to be set to finish out the night in 4th until the final corner.  Dietrich turned under the Capitol Renegade 91 and drag raced Reinhardt to the line, nipping him by 0.042 seconds.

 

Despite some frustration with himself for giving up 4th in the run through the final corner coming to the line, Reinhardt was still happy with his team’s effort and results.  He put it in very simple terms after the race.

 

“Solid night.  We needed that.“

 

October 7:  Jim Ford Classic – Night 1 / Fremont Speedway / Fremont, OH [38 cars, Qualifying 7th in Group C, Heat 5th (7), A-main 12th (18)]

 

The final weekend of the season for the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) brought the series to Fremont, Ohio for the two-day Jim Ford Classic.  Night one produced a roster of 38 teams to chase the $6,000 winner’s share.

 

Reinhardt was the 8th of nine drivers in Group C to hit the track for qualifying.  He only managed the 7th best lap in the group, creating a bit of a hill for the Capitol Renegade team to climb.

 

Starting 7th in the third of four heats, Reinhardt needed to reach the top five to transfer directly to the A-main and avoid racing the B-main to get in.  The 8-lap qualifying race got off on the wrong foot when he slipped to 8th, but Reinhardt soon found his rhythm.  By lap five he had worked his way to 6th and was able to make the pass for 5th on lap seven, putting himself into the night’s finale.

 

Reinhardt started the 35-lap A-main in the 18th position and patiently waited for the traffic around him to sort itself out over the first five laps.  From there, he used a steady effort to chip his way toward the front, making his way into the top fifteen on lap nine.  

 

Reinhardt’s machine continued to get quicker as the fuel load burned off.  On the restart following a lap twenty caution, he surged forward into the 13th spot.  As the race reached its final five circuits, he moved up another position.  The late charge ended just 8-tenths of a second out of a top ten finish with Reinhardt in 12th.

 

October 8:  Jim Ford Classic – Night 2 / Fremont Speedway / Fremont, OH [39 cars, Qualifying 1st in Group 2, Heat 3rd (4), A-main 3rd (6)]

 

The $10,000 to win finale of the Jim Ford Classic and the 2022 ASCoC season drew a field of 39 cars, once again putting the four qualifying group, four heat format into action.

 

Reinhardt rolled out 7th in Group B for his turn under the clock and promptly showed the resurgence of his team’s speed as he laid down the fastest lap in the group.

 

Only needing to transfer by finishing in the top five of his heat race, Reinhardt ran hard from his starting spot outside row two in his 8-lap heat race.  He brought home a third place finish and along with it, a spot in the dash redraw.

 

Reinhardt drew the 6th starting spot for the 6-lap dash.  On the opening lap he moved up one spot but eventually finished 6th, putting his Capitol Renegade No.91 on the outside of row three for the 30-lap Jim Ford Classic main event.

 

On lap two, Reinhardt moved into the fifth position.  He held that ground, executing a steady performance, for the next twenty three laps and appeared set to come home with a nice top five finish.

 

Reinhardt wasn’t done yet though.

 

A caution slowed the field with four laps remaining and Reinhardt still running 5th.  On the restart, he drove to the inside of Zeb Wise in turn one and took the 4th position away.

 

Two laps later the yellow lights flashed on yet again, forcing a restart for a green-white-checkered finish.  On this restart, Cole Macedo was Reinhardt’s victim when the former professional engineer turned full time racer slipped underneath the No.18 entering turn one.

 

Reinhardt held on to 3rd for the remaining lap and a half, closing out the touring series’ portion of his season with his first ASCoC podium of the year and first ASCoC top five since August 24th at Bloomsburg Fair Raceway in Pennsylvania.

 

“I was trying to save my tire.  I could tell early on the track was probably going to take rubber and tires would be important at the end.  It’s tough to hold back but it paid off in the end.“, Reinhardt shared.

 

“We had a solid finish to our All Star season tonight.  It’s been a challenging year, but we’ve finally been finding our speed again lately, so hopefully we can continue that in our remaining races and go into the offseason with something positive to build on.  I want to say thank you to all of our partners and everyone involved with our team that got our 91 car up and down the road all season.”

Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team will take the coming weekend off, then will return on Friday, October 21st at BAPS Motor Speedway for their “The Night Before” event.  The following night, the Neptune City, NJ native will roll back into Williams Grove Speedway for the rescheduled finale of the 60th Annual National Open.
