A Personal Note About #TeamA2D

Harrisburg, PA – November 24, 2021

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

 )

2021 was a year of firsts.  A year full of reasons to be thankful.

I want to say right up front, this article will have a slightly different perspective than you are used to reading here.  This is a personal note of reflection and expression of appreciation.  I’ll try to be brief.

When I started Addicted2Dirt PR just before the 2020 season, my goal was simply to try to contribute to the sport I have been passionate about for many years.  Austin Berry and ABR allowed me to take my vision and make it something real.  Just a few months later, Zach Newlin and Newlin Racing believed enough in what I was doing to bring me into their fold to promote their efforts.  As the 2021 season opened, Kyle Reinhardt and RQM Enterprises took the same step of faith.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my wife and the full support she has given me and this vision from the beginning.  I really should be saying ‘we’ anytime I mention A2D.  She has helped me shape every aspect of what we are trying to do together for the sport.

We now have two seasons under our belt, hopefully making a difference along the way.  These three teams have given us that opportunity and we could not be more appreciative and thankful.

We have been blessed to be a small part of some wonderful moments:

  • Austin’s first super late model win this season
  • Zach’s first 358 sprint checkered flag in 2020
  • Zach’s first Outlaw A-main in 2021
  • Kyle’s first All-Star victory this year

Here’s to 2022.  May we all experience continued success and growth in the year ahead.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Kyle Reinhardt Wraps Up Rookie All Star Season at Fremont

Year on the Road Provided Learning Opportunities

New Oxford, PA – October 13, 2021

Back in January 2021, there was no doubt in Kyle Reinhardt’s mind that he and his Capitol Renegade team would face new challenges and learn a lot in their upcoming inaugural season on the road with the All Star Circuit of Champions.  They were about to go to school and build quite a notebook.

Just over eight months later, the All Star season was poised to fade into the rear view mirror and Reinhardt’s freshman year, so to speak, would be complete.  There was just one more weekend to study, and it took the team to Fremont, Ohio.

10/8:  Jim & Joanne Ford Classic Prelim Night at Fremont Speedway – Fremont, OH

The story Friday night was all about Mother Nature.  Storms passed through the northern Ohio area, bringing rain and hail.  Despite their best efforts, the track crew was unable to overcome the weather, forcing officials to cancel the program.

10/9:  Jim & Joanne Ford Classic at Fremont Speedway – Fremont, OH

          (48 cars, Qualifying 9th in group D, Heat 8th, C-main 2nd, A-main 18th)

Saturday brought better weather and 48 teams to compete for the $10,000 winner’s share in the Jim & Joanne Ford Classic at Fremont Speedway. It was the All Star Circuit of Champions season finale.

The large car count meant the field was aligned into five groups.  Teams would qualify and heat race against those in their group.  Kyle Reinhardt was the 5th to hit the track in group D but the resulting time of 13.781 was 9th quickest in the group.

Only the top four finishers would transfer from each 8-lap heat race to the A-main, so Reinhardt had a tall order in front of him from his 9th starting spot in heat number four.  His 8th place finish relegated him to the C-main, leaving him with an even taller order.

Reinhardt was able to move his Capitol Renegade, Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 forward in the 10-lap C-main, finishing 2nd and transferring to the B-main.

The team opted for a series provisional to start the A-main, bypassing the last chance qualifying race.   The Neptune City, NJ native was able to go +7 from his 25th starting spot in the A-main, recording an 18th place finish.

Reflecting on the 2021 ASCoC Season

It was definitely a learning year.  I learned; the whole team learned…every night.  We saw a lot of new places.  In the long run it will make me and the team better.  It already has honestly“, Reinhardt shared candidly.

Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team appeared in 37 All Star features and 16 dashes, finishing 8th in series points.  The team captured victories in 7 heat races, 2 dashes and 1 A-main during the 2021 season.

We had some good moments, like our first win, but of course we expected more of our team.  Going into the season we weren’t sure what to expect.  After Florida we felt like we should be able to compete for a spot somewhere in the middle of the top 10 in points.  We fell short of that, largely because of all the new challenges we faced in the early part of the season.  We missed features because we didn’t solve those problems as quickly as we needed to.  It was a whole new team learning to work together and seeing new tracks all at the same time.  No excuses.  That’s just how it was“, Reinhardt surmised.

Up Next

Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team will race close to home, making a stop at BAPS Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 23rd.  It will be their final tune up before heading to The World Finals in Charlotte in early November.

Reinhardt Returns to Action at Grove’s National Open

All Star Season Finale Up Next at Fremont

New Oxford, PA – October 6, 2021

 )

After being sidelined for a couple weekends, Kyle Reinhardt eagerly returned to the seat of the Capitol Renegade No.91.  The team returned to the track for the 59th Annual Champion Oil National Open at Williams Grove Speedway.

The event is attended by tens of thousands of fans, watched by even more and is one of the most coveted events for winged sprint car drivers and teams.  Not only is the race lucrative, paying $75,000 to the winner, but it has been won by a who’s who in sprint car racing over the years.  The winners list includes names that range from Indy 500 winner, Gordon Johncock, to the King of the Outlaws, Steve Kinser.  It’s one of those handful of events that provide a sense of pride just to make the starting field.

10/1:  National Open Prelim Night at Williams Grove Speedway – Mechanicsburg, PA

        (49 cars, Qualifying 6th in flight 1, Heat 4th, A-main 23rd)

The month of October opened with a perfect Central Pennsylvania autumn evening that saw 49 teams unload in the pits at Williams Grove Speedway.  They were there not only to chase the $10,000 winner’s share, but more importantly, learn everything they could so they could be at their best the following night, when the eyes of the sprint car world would descend on the legendary oval.

A good pill draw put Kyle Reinhardt fourth in line to take the track for time trials in the World of Outlaws’ sanctioned event.  He used that opportunity to record the 6th quickest lap in the flight of 25.

The format called for four 8-lap heat races, from which the top 5 would transfer to the A-main.  Reinhardt’s qualifying effort placed him 3rd for the start of heat number two.  After a tough battle in the opening laps, the Neptune City, NJ native settled into the 4th position and held on to that spot to transfer to the night’s finale.

Reinhardt took the green for the 25-lap A-main from the inside of row eight and struggled from the start.  He battled an ill-handling racecar throughout the event, slowly sliding backward through the running order to a frustrating 23rd place finish.

10/2:  59th Annual National Open at Williams Grove Speedway – Mechanicsburg, PA

          (48 cars, Qualifying 21st in flight 2, Heat 9th, B-main 13th)

Saturday night brought 48 teams back to take their shot at the $75,000 top prize.  A less friendly pill draw had Reinhardt near the less desirable end of the qualifying order, taking to the track as the 17th of 24 drivers in flight 2, and 41st overall.  Kyle was unable to wring the kind of lap he needed out of his Capitol Renegade No.91, leaving him a disappointing 21st when the dust settled.

With only the top five finishers in each heat race moving to the A-main, Reinhardt had a tall order from his 11th starting spot in heat number three.  In that situation, when a giant leap forward will be difficult, the strategy is often to take two smaller steps.  The first step would be to at least finish somewhere between 6th and 9th to get into the B-main, where the team would have a chance to take the second step into the A-main.  Finishing 10th or worse in the heat race relegates teams to the C-main and creates a nearly insurmountable challenge to get to the finale.

The All Star Circuit of Champions Rookie of the Year candidate came out of the gate quick in his heat race, surging to the 8th spot on lap one.  From there, he found himself in an intense battle to maintain position to make the cut for the B-main.  He managed to survive, bringing home a 9th place finish to avoid an unwanted trip to the C-main.

Figuratively speaking, Reinhardt once again found himself looking up a steep hill when the green flag dropped on the 12-lap Last Chance Showdown.  Starting outside the 8th row, Reinhardt gave it everything he had, but ultimately finished 13th in the B-main, ending his night.

We were a lot better Friday but I didn’t have things quite right for the feature that night“, Reinhardt commented, referring directly to himself and alluding to the fact that he was handling the setup chores after the team recently parted ways with crew chief Bob Curtis.  “Saturday we tried to improve using what we experienced Friday but it made it worse for qualifying, so we were trying to play catch up all night”, he concluded.

Up Next

Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team will close out their first full All Star Circuit of Champions season on October 8th and 9th at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, OH at the Jim and Joanne Ford Classic, where the Saturday night finale will pay $10,000 to the victor.
