Along With 358 Sprint Duties, More 410 Races Planned Before Year Ends

York Haven, PA – August 29, 2023

Zach Newlin has dabbled in 410 sprint cars over the last few seasons in the seat of a few different cars.  The opportunities came his way after several highly successful seasons at the wheel of his family’s 305 sprint car, follow by a successful debut season when the team moved up to the 358 sprint car division.

With an appetite that now had a taste for 410 sprint car competition, late in 2023 Newlin made the decision to resurrect the familiar 11z, but this time it would have a 410 engine under the hood.

Sunday night the team took the first on-track step in that journey.

QUICK RESULTS

  • Date:  8/27/23
  • Event:  Capitol Renegade Clash
  • Track:  BAPS Motor Speedway
  • City, State:   York Haven, PA
  • Quick Stats:  23 cars, Qualifying 7th in Group 3, Heat 7th (7), A-main 17th (21)

WORKING OUT THE KINKS

Newlin was forced to dive right in Sunday night.  Group time trials set the heat lineups for the 23-car field, so his first laps in the Ron’s RV Sales, Butler Hill Maple Farm, Tuscarora Roofing Co., Dillman Hauling, FIT Transportation, Grove Financial & Associates, Precision Auto Repair Services, Snyders Knob, Christine Booker Realtor, Newlin Bar Service No.11z were on the clock.

After timing 7th quick in group 3, Newlin started and finished 7th in heat three as well.

Newlin took what he learned from those laps, discussed the information with brother Lance Newlin, and the pair made adjustments for the 30-lap finale.  It made a difference.  He was able to climb as high as 16th during the first half of the race and ultimately finished 17th.

It’s good to be back at the track with the family team.  We have been working on building this RPM car all year as finances allowed.  The final piece was the engine.  We didn’t even get a chance to come out and test, so tonight was like a test for us.“, Newlin said.

It took some time to get comfortable tonight but we definitely made a lot of progress by the end of the night.  There are a couple components I want to change before we race again.  Hopefully we can use the rest of this year to shake the car down so we have something solid to start 2024 with.

UP NEXT

Zach will be back in 358 sprint car action in the Mansberger Motorsports No. 21m at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, September 1st looking to continue their climb up the season point standings at the track.  Newlin currently sits 5th on that list.

While Newlin is still considering possibly racing at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night September 2nd, his next 410 sprint car race will likely be Port Royal Speedway’s Labor Day Classic.

Newlin says his tentative 410 sprint car schedule includes the remaining races at BAPS Motor Speedway and possibly a couple other races.

TRIVIA QUESTION

The answer to our last trivia question is Zach won the Hard Charger Award at Port Royal Speedway’s Labor Day Classic in 2020 and repeated the feat in 2021!

Now, on to this week’s question!  In 305 sprint car competition, how many top ten finishes did Zach accumulate over the 2016-2019 seasons?

A.  Between 50-60

B.  Between 65-75

C.  Between 80-90

D.  More than 100

The answer in the next press release!

Keen Rebounds With Top Five Finish One Week After Hard Crash

Two Race Weekend On Tap for Carlisle, PA Driver

Abbottstown, PA – August 29, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Keen and his team put in some long hours and a lot of hard work over the past week to get back to the track Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.  They had to build a car from scratch starting with their 2022 frame and concluding with dropping in a borrowed power plant.

Their two night, three feature weekend that kicked off August 18th had not even seen a green flag yet when a part broke and caused Keen to crash hard into the outside guardrail exiting turn four at Williams Grove Speedway as he accelerated to line up for a makeup feature event.

Keen was ok but his car was destroyed in the fluke accident.  After a busy week rebuilding, it was time to put the car to the test and hope for a little better outcome.

  • Date:  August 26, 2023
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  30 cars, Heat 3rd (7), A-main 5th (1)

Nice Recovery

Keen was among a field of thirty teams signed in to do battle Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway in Pennsylvania.

For the fifth consecutive time at the Abbottstown oval, Keen had to start outside the top three rows in his heat race.  This time he occupied the 7th spot when the green flag waived.  He made his move early, surging into 5th on the opening lap.

Keen continued the heat race charge, reaching 3rd on lap three in his Fine Line Auto Body, Keen Parts/CorvetteParts.net, Doubling Gap Ranch, Shetron, Auction & Equipment, LLC., Wicked Dog Grille, Heishman Racing Fuels, Wicked Cushion, DL Lehman Construction, Gearhead Coffee, Jeremy Zarfos Photography, Coyle’s Lawn Maintenance, 2B Wrapped, 4 Leaf Clover Farms, Turn 2 Terribles Podcast & Media, Kyle Keen Motorsports No.17.

Keen finished 3rd, locking himself into the handicap.  The effort paid off by handing him the pole position for the 20-lap feature.  He led the first two circuits before slipping to 3rd.

Keen’s setup was off a little for the slick surface but he continued to manage it the best he could, holding down the 4th spot at the halfway point of the race.  In the closing stages he dropped one more spot but was able to hang on and bring home a 5th place finish.

“I’m pretty happy with a top five after last weekend’s crash.  This was a different frame, brake system and motor.  A good night for us.  We had some really good speed.  It’s something we can build on.“, Keen said.  “Huge thank you to Jake Raudabaugh of Fine Line Auto Body for allowing us to borrow his Don Ott Racing Engines power plant for this weekend.

It was nice to have a good run with our friend and sponsor, Tom Keen of Keen Parts, with us for the evening.  Glad we got him a little dirty for once.“, Keen said with a grin.

We truly appreciate everyone’s support.  Hopefully we can start knocking down these top fives more consistently.

Up Next

Kyle and the team will look to build some momentum from their top five finish when they head to Williams Grove Speedway Friday, September 1st and Lincoln Speedway the following night.

Cappetta Scores First Top 10 of the Season

Team Puts Together Solid Night in the Pigeon Hills

Abbottstown, PA – August 24, 2023

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Ashley and the Cappetta Racing Team put together a solid night that ended with a top 10 finish for the first time this season at the Barry Skelly Memorial.

  • Date:  August 19, 2023
  • Event:  Barry Skelly Memorial
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  25 cars, Heat 4th [6], A-main 8th [8]

Cappetta Finishes Eighth; Best Finish of the Season

Ashley Cappetta and the Gettysburg Trading Post, Mike’s Towing and Recovery, Yesteryear Antique Center, Stoner’s Auction, O’Brien’s Fuel and Service, Iron Horse Trains, Republican Club of Hanover No. 89 were back in action at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday for the Barry Skelly Memorial.

Cappetta’s night started with a pill draw of 43 which usually would not be a great way to kick things off, but the number 43 holds a special place in Ashley’s heart, and she did not allow herself to be defeated as the number 43 kept appearing to her and her crew throughout the night. Cappetta lined up sixth for her heat race and drove her way up to fourth putting her in a redraw spot. Ashley drew the 8 for the start of the 25-lap Summer Series feature. Cappetta got up to fifth early in the race, “The track in the beginning was good and then I felt like I just protected my position for the second half of the race.” After running fifth for a few laps, Cappetta got passed and sent back to sixth where she would run until a caution on lap 16, the cautions hurt us.” Ashley would finish where she started in eighth, for her first top 10 and best finish of the season.

New Tires Continue to Challenge Cappetta

Despite a solid finish, the new Hoosier tires continue to throw a curve ball at Cappetta and the team, “The tires faded, and I wasn’t as comfortable at the end of the race.” In addition to the tires at the end of the race, Cappetta has been fighting a shoulder injury, “Those extra five laps hurt because of my shoulder, but I’m happy to be able to finish where we did.” Ashley said that the new tires aren’t as noticeable in the shorter heat races, but when it comes to the feature, there is definitely a difference, “We need to figure out the extra adjustments to make me comfortable through the entire night and feature.” Each week the team is learning something new when it comes to the tires. It is worth noting that this tire change came just as teams were finally getting comfortable with the new wing.

Cappetta Plugging Away at Weldon Sterner Memorial

Things are starting to fall into place for the Weldon Sterner Memorial at Lincoln Speedway on October 14 and Ashley has been hard at work behind the scenes. Sponsors are still rolling in and Ashley and Pat Sterner are still looking for a few more partners to put together the vision they have for the 20th anniversary of the race, “We have some exciting things planned for the fans and the racers that we can’t wait to share.”

Stay tuned to Cappetta’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.

Reinhardt Debuts in Grove Racing 45 With Pair of All Star Top Tens

Michigan All Star Double On Tap This Weekend

Selinsgrove, PA – August 23, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

For the second time in the past month, opportunity knocked for Kyle Reinhardt.  In July it was a chance to run the Indy Race Parts No.71 in the High Limit Series race at Grandview Speedway, this time it was an offer to drive the Grove Racing No.45, recently vacated by Tim Shaffer, for the remainder of the All Star Circuit of Champions 2023 schedule.

Fans will still see Reinhardt behind the wheel of his familiar Capitol Renegade, Coors Banquet, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 a handful of times this year when the All Stars are not racing, but for now it was time to seize the opportunity and rejoin the traveling series he had logged many miles and races with in 2021 and 2022 when he toured full time with the series.

  • Info:  Grove Racing No.45 / All Star Circuit of Champions

  • Quick Stats:  25 cars, Qualifying 10th, Heat 5th (3), A-main 8th (13)

  • Date:  August 20, 2023
  • Info:  Grove Racing No.45 / All Star Circuit of Champions
  • TrackSelinsgrove Speedway
  • City, State:   Selinsgrove, PA
  • Quick Stats:  24 cars, Qualifying 8th, Heat 2nd (2), Dash 5th (3), A-main 10th (5)

New York Debut

Reinhardt strapped into the Grove Racing No.45 for the first time Friday night August 18th at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY with the All Star Circuit of Champions.

Right out of the gate Reinhardt clicked off the 10th quickest lap overall in qualifying.  The start of the heat race didn’t go his way, costing him some track position but he was able to gather it up, find his rhythm, and bring home a 5th place finish.

The 35-lap A-main was a different story for Reinhardt.  He was able to move forward early and broke into the top ten by lap eight.  He continued to put up consistent laps on the slick surface to close in on the front of the pack.

On lap sixteen Reinhardt took possession of the 9th spot, then moved into 8th six laps later.  He held on to the spot to the checkered flag to complete a solid first night in the car.

Back Home in Pennsylvania

Sunday night the All Stars and the Grove Racing team rolled into familiar Pennsylvania territory for Reinhardt, Selinsgrove Speedway.  The big, fast half-mile track is a place where Reinhardt has a lot of laps and a lot of success, including numerous wins in both 360 and 410 sprint car competition, as well as track championships in both divisions.

Reinhardt looked strong again to start the night, turning in the 8th quickest lap in qualifying, backed up by a runner-up finish in his heat race and a 5th place run in the Dash.

Reinhardt took the green for the 30-lap A-main from the inside of row three and settled into the 6th position in the early going.  He held that spot until just before the halfway mark and despite being off a bit in the late going, still brought home a top ten finish.

I think we got off on the right foot in the 45 car with two top tens. Definitely looking forward to working with Bryan and his guys moving forward.“, Reinhardt commented.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2023 season.

Kyle can be contacted via [email protected].

Up Next

Reinhardt and the Grove Racing No.45 team will travel to Michigan for two All Star Circuit of Champions races on August 25th and 26th.  The series rolls into Tri-City Motor Speedway in Auburn, MI on Friday night and moves to Butler Speedway in Quincy, MI the following night.

The Neptune City, NJ native will hustle back to Pennsylvania to be ready to compete in the Capitol Renegade Clash at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday night in the Capitol Renegade, Coors Banquet, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 .

Newlin Extends String of Top Ten Finishes to Five

Team Will Return to Williams Grove September 1st

Mechanicsburg, PA – August 22, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

In case you haven’t noticed, Zach Newlin has been a consistent contender this summer in 358 sprint car competition.

It started with a hard charger award in early May.  A few weeks later there was a podium finish.  That was followed by a 23rd to 6th drive at BAPS Motor Speedway.  In July, he reached victory lane at Williams Grove Speedway.

Now the calendar has turned to August and Newlin is still performing.  Friday night he scored two top ten finishes in two feature events, and he had to get his elbows up to get it done.

  • Date:  8/18/23
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • 8/4 Makeup Summer Series Feature:  A-main 8th (19)
  • Quick Stats:  30 cars, Heat 3rd (7), A-main 6th (9)

Let's Try This Again

Back on August 4th, Newlin had a rough qualifying night that saw him unable to dig out of an early hole that stemmed from an unlucky pill draw.  Before the feature could be run that night, the rain came.  Now, two weeks later, that feature rolled to the green to kick off the night at Williams Grove Speedway with the Millerstown, PA wheelman in the 19th starting spot.

When the green flag dropped on the 25-lap 358 Sprint Car Summer Series makeup feature, Newlin was ready to put the qualifying challenges of two weeks prior in the rear view mirror.

In the early going he reached 14th but was still mired there at the halfway point.  That’s when the Manchester Hydraulics, Marlow’s Metal Fabrication, Safety Kleen, Lee Chassis Repair & Components, Will’s Lawncare, Mansberger Motorsports No.21m came alive.

Newlin navigated his way to 12th on lap fourteen, then cracked the top ten on lap sixteen.  One lap later he climbed to 8th.  He held on to finish there, completing a solid recovery with a strong run.

Consistency Is Key

Thirty teams were on hand for the regular show Friday night at Williams Grove, which set heat lineups by the track’s handicapping system and the feature lineup was ‘heads up’ based on the heat race finishes.

Newlin started 7th in the third and final heat race of the evening.  He made quick work of the cars directly in front of him, racing into 5th on the opening lap.  He continued his push, claiming 4th on the following circuit and eventually 3rd on lap seven.  He pulled even with Justin Foster coming to the checkered flag but fell 0.030 seconds short of a runner-up finish.

The heat race charge provided Newlin with the 9th starting spot for the 20-lap A-main.  On the initial start he slipped back a couple spots but recovered within two trips around the legendary Mechanicsburg, PA half-mile.

Once he found his rhythm, Newlin began to chip away toward the top five.  He took the 8th spot on lap three, then 7th the next time around.  A few laps later he moved into 6th and began his pursuit of Kody Hartlaub for a spot in the top five.

It never materialized and Newlin closed out the night with a 6th place finish.  The productive night brought his streak of top ten finishes to five, including a win in late July in the Manchester Hydraulics, Marlow’s Metal Fabrication, Safety Kleen, Lee Chassis Repair & Components, Will’s Lawncare, Mansberger Motorsports No.21m.

“We haven’t been out of the top ten anywhere we have gone with this car since May 5th, and that was an 11th place finish.“, Newlin said.  “We passed a lot of cars tonight.  We went forward every time we hit the track.  Almost had second in our heat from seventh.”

“It feels good to have Dan’s (Mansberger) car running the way it should be.  We struggled with odd issues and bad luck the last couple years, so it’s good to finally have things going our way and showing what we are capable of.  You have to be consistent and be there first, then the wins will come.  We have one so far and hopefully we can get a couple more before the season ends.

Up Next

Zach and the Mansberger Motorsports team will return to Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, September 1st looking to continue their climb up the season point standings at the track.  Newlin currently sits 5th on that list.

Hartlaub Nets First Career 410 Sprint Car Podium

Two Nights, Three Features On Tap This Weekend

Abbottstown, PA – August 15, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

What a difference a week makes.

The opening weekend of the month of August was a tough one for Kody Hartlaub.  Back on August 4th, after qualifying well at Williams Grove in his 358 sprint car, the feature was rained out.  The following night he took his 410 sprint car to Lincoln Speedway, and he struggled through the night both on and off the track, largely due to being ill.

Hartlaub quickly erased the memories of the previous weekend by netting his first career podium finish in a 410 sprint car this past Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway in Pennsylvania.

  • Division:  358 Sprint Cars
  • Date:  August 4, 2023
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  23 cars, Heat 2nd (5), A-main PPD to 8/18

  • Division:  410 Sprint Cars
  • Date:  August 5, 2023
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  25 cars, Heat 8th (5), B-main 6th (5), A-main 18th (24)

  • Division:  410 Sprint Cars
  • Date:  August 12, 2023
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  23 cars, Heat 3rd (4), A-main 2nd (5)

Breaking New Ground

Back at full strength physically, Kody Hartlaub joined 22 other teams at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night to get a little more 410 sprint car seat time in the J Fuels, Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Hartlaub’s Furniture, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.95.

Hartlaub started outside row two in the 10-lap heat race and quickly moved into 3rd on the opening lap.  On the next circuit, he claimed the 2nd spot and looked to have it in hand until Freddie Rahmer tracked him down with two laps to go and relegated Hartlaub to a 3rd place finish.  The spot was still good enough to squeak into the handicapping for the feature lineup.

In the 30-lap A-main, Hartlaub appeared ready to make some headlines in central Pennsylvania racing news.  From his 5th starting spot he surged into 3rd by the completion of lap number one.  He held that through the first ten laps, then with his fastest lap of the race he moved into the runner-up spot.

Just past the halfway point, Hartlaub took command of the race by passing Kyle Spence for the top spot.  Meanwhile Freddie Rahmer was inching his way toward the front as well.

On lap nineteen, Rahmer wrestled the lead away.  Hartlaub held on for a strong 2nd place finish, his first career 410 sprint car podium finish.  An admirable accomplishment for the young man who has less than ten 410 sprint car starts until his belt.

“Hard to put into words what this means to me and my team.  From dreaming of someday getting to run a 410 sprint car to actually being able to do it, and to have the speed we had, I couldn’t have asked for anything more.“, Hartlaub commented.  We led laps and learned a lot.

I have to thank everyone that made this possible, all the support from my friends and family, my wife, my crew, Pat Brewer, Austin Funk, Jim and Steve Siegel, and all my sponsors because without them we wouldn’t be here.

Up Next

Kody will strap back into his 358 sprint car for the upcoming weekend.  He returns to Williams Grove Speedway Friday night, August 18th, for a makeup feature plus a full program.

The following night they will head to Lincoln Speedway for a Summer Series event.

Season Stats: 358 Division

14 races, 2 wins, 8 top 5’s, 12 top 10’s, 13 top 15’s

Season Stats: 410 Division

5 races, 0 wins, 1 top 5’s, 1 top 10’s, 3 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to last week’s trivia question is Kody Hartlaub’s favorite band is Breaking Benjamin!

Now, on to this week’s question.  How old was Kody when he got his first go-kart?

Did you know Kody has a website?  Hint.  You might want to visit KodyHartlaub.com!

The answer in the next press release!

Reinhardt’s Qualifying Struggles Tough to Overcome at Knoxville Nationals

All Star Seat in Grove Racing 45 Kicks Off This Weekend

Knoxville, IA – August 15, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Reinhardt has produced good speed and consistent finishes all season.  He hoped to carry that momentum into the 62nd Annual Knoxville Nationals.

The Nationals are a different animal though.  With over one hundred of the best drivers from the United States, Canada and Australia in competition for a big payday, there are no guarantees.  Every team works hard for every spot they earn, but they also need a little luck to align with their preparation.

Reinhardt reached the B-main in both 2021 and 2022, a respectable accomplishment on its own.  He was back in Iowa this summer looking to make his first career Nationals A-main.

  • Date:  August 9, 2023
  • Event:  Knoxville Nationals – Qualifying Night
  • TrackKnoxville Raceway
  • City, State:   Knoxville, IA
  • Quick Stats:  52 cars, Qualifying 41st, Heat 8th (9), B-main 12th (17)

  • Date:  August 11, 2023
  • Event:  Knoxville Nationals – Hard Knox Night
  • TrackKnoxville Raceway
  • City, State:   Knoxville, IA
  • Quick Stats:  78 cars, Qualifying 25th in Group B, Heat 4th (9), B-main 12th (16)

  • Date:  August 12, 2023
  • Event:  Knoxville Nationals – Championship Night
  • TrackKnoxville Raceway
  • City, State:   Knoxville, IA
  • Quick Stats:  D-main DNS/20th (8th)

Qualifying Night

On his qualifying night Wednesday, the pill draw handed Reinhardt a late spot in the qualifying order, 38th of the 52 cars on hand.  The Neptune City, NJ native posted the 41st quickest time, missing the heat race in version by 0.085 seconds.

From his 9th starting spot in heat race number one, Reinhardt was only able to move forward to 8th during the 10-lap event.

Prior to the B-main, the Capitol Renegade, Coors Banquet Beer, Henry’s Wrecker Service team made adjustments and it showed immediately when he hit the track for the 12-lap B-main.

Reinhardt advanced from 17th to 10th in just five laps.  Unfortunately, a few laps later, a shock broke on the No.91, and he finished 12th.

Hard Knox Night

The teams that were not already in a good position for Saturday’s finale were pit-side for Friday night’s Hard Knox Night to take another shot at locking into the Nationals A-main, or to at least improve their position on Saturday.  The large field of 78 cars was split into two groups for qualifying.

Reinhardt drew pill 93 of 100, putting him deep in Group 2 qualifying, the 71st car to hit the track overall.  It wasn’t the ideal way to start a night where he needed things to go his way to have a shot at making Saturday’s A-main.

Reinhardt and team didn’t hit the combination they needed.  He ended up 25th quickest in Group B time trials.  He was able to bounce back in his heat race though.

Showing a lot of speed, Reinhardt went from 9th to 4th in the 10-lap race, but it wasn’t quite enough.  He missed the A-main transfer by one spot.

Unfortunately, the heat race progress was all wiped away because officials set the B-main lineup using each competitor’s original qualifying time.

In that 12-lap B-main, Reinhardt advanced from 16th to 12th, bringing an end to his night.

Ultimately it ended up being the end of the Nationals week for Reinhardt.

Overall, we just did not time trial well and that was just the entire week. We worked hard to get out of the hole, but the format just doesn’t allow you to do that. You can’t chip away and get out. We almost did it on Friday but came up one spot short and basically got completely reset. Saturday we just decided to cut our losses and pack it up.“, Reinhardt commented.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2023 season.

Up Next - New Adventures

Reinhardt will kick off his new opportunity in the Grove Racing No.45 with two All Star Circuit of Champions races on August 18th and 20th.

The series rolls into Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY on Friday night and then wraps up the weekend with a Sunday night appearance at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, PA.

Following those dates, Reinhardt will run the remainder of the All Star Circuit of Champions 2023 schedule with the Grove Racing team.  Fans will also see Kyle in his familiar Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 as he currently plans to fill some additional dates on his calendar with that car.

Follow Reinhardt’s social media channels listed below or check Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the latest schedule updates.

Double Header Weekend for Cappetta

Back at the Grove for the First Time in Two Years

Abbottstown, PA – August 3, 2023

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Ashley and the Cappetta Racing Team put together a two-race weekend for the first time since 2021, competing at both Williams Grove and Lincoln.

  • Date:  July 28, 2023
  • Event:  York County Racing Club Night/MacMore Construction LLC Summer Series
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  25 cars, Heat 7th [6], A-main 23rd [21]

  • Date:  July 29, 2023
  • Event:  Rack Daddies Rumble presented by L & M Tire and Wheel
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  28 cars, Heat 5th [2], A-main 11th [13]

Rough Return to the Grove for Cappetta

Ashley Cappetta and the Gettysburg Trading Post, Mike’s Towing and Recovery, Yesteryear Antique Center, Stoner’s Auction, O’Brien’s Fuel and Service, Iron Horse Trains, Republican Club of Hanover No. 89 were back in action twice this weekend racing at both Williams Grove and Lincoln.

Cappetta and the team made their return to Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night after last racing at the famous paper clip in 2021. For once Cappetta was not disappointed with a high pill draw, “Since I hadn’t been there in a while, I was comfortable starting in the back.” Hitting the track for the first time in two years, Ashley felt comfortable in warm ups and then in the heat race the struggles started, “I was struggling in the corners finding my comfort spot. The Grove is demanding and if you don’t race there enough, you’re going to struggle.” Unfortunately, Cappetta’s feature was cut short when she got tangled up with a spinning car.

Cappetta’s 11th Place Finish is Best of Season

Cappetta finally had the opportunity to start up front in her heat race with a decent pill draw to kick things off on Saturday night at Lincoln. Ashley finished the heat race fifth, making the feature. Cappetta and the team went to work on the car and made some adjustments, “We made some adjustments after learning from the heat race and that seemed to help.” Ashley had a good start that unfortunately got called back, “I wish the initial start would have stuck. I had passed two or three cars.” Once the field lined up for the restart Cappetta went to work and eventually moved off the bottom to get around a car taking her out of her comfort zone. Saturday’s finish of 11th is Cappetta’s best finish of the season so far.

Solid Saturday Night Helped Boost Confidence

After struggling at the Grove on Friday night, putting together a night at Lincoln on Saturday which resulted in Ashley’s best finish of the season was just what the doctor ordered, “Saturday night’s feature helped bring my confidence back.” Not having put together a two-race weekend in over two years it was definitely not an easy feat for Cappetta and the team, “I give drivers credit that race multiple times a week on a regular basis, it is demanding and exhausting.” Moving forward the team has decided to focus on Lincoln for the rest of the year.

Stay tuned to Cappetta’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.

If you haven’t noticed, Kody Hartlaub has not only been building the depth of his program and his equipment, but he has also been taking every opportunity to add to his experience in the seat.

As last weekend approached, he was at it again.

Hartlaub turned his two race weekend into three by doing double duty at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night.  He entered both his 358 and 410 sprint cars into competition at the famed oval.

Spring Backwards?

With less than a full field of 410 sprint cars signed in Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, Hartlaub’s decision to enter competition that night was a smart one.  It provided guaranteed track time without the pressure to make the show.

His night got off to a good start by going forward in his heat race from his 5th starting spot to a 4th place finish.

Hartlaub appeared ready to score his first career top ten in a 410 sprint car in the 25-lap A-main.  From his starting spot outside the sixth row, he surged into the top ten on the opening lap and raced his way up to 8th by lap five.

Things got a little more difficult after a caution near the midpoint of the race.  The throttle spring on Hartlaub’s car broke, meaning the gas pedal would not come back up on its own when he lifted his foot.  The East Berlin, PA driver was forced to manually lift the pedal with his foot each time.  It was enough to suppress how aggressive he could be, and it relegated him to a 14th place finish.

We decided to bring the 410 up tonight along with the 358 to get me more laps in that division. Like I said earlier this year, we are just taking every 410 start we make and trying to learn as much as we can each time I hit the track. It was awesome racing side by side with Danny for a few laps until the spring broke. But sometimes that’s just racing no matter how much preventative maintenance you do.”, Hartlaub shared.

Duking It Out

The 358 sprint car portion of Friday’s program brought 25 teams to compete.  Heat lineups for the Summer Series event were set by pill draw, with the top four finishers going to the redraw.

Hartlaub started 7th in the final heat race in the J Fuels, Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Hartlaub’s Furniture, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.95 and he wasted no time, charging into 3rd on the opening lap.  He held that spot to lock himself into the redraw.

The A-main redraw dealt Hartlaub the same hand as the earlier draw, a 7th starting spot.  At the drop of the green, he got shuffled back to 9th in traffic, but he was able to recover the track position within the next two circuits.

Hartlaub clearly had a good car and when he found his rhythm, the march to the front began.  He cracked the top five on lap nine and reached 3rd on lap thirteen with a calculated but aggressive drive.

When Hartlaub moved into the runner-up spot, he was a full straightaway behind leader Zach Newlin, but he immediately began to visibly close the gap.  In traffic with only four laps remaining, he dover under Newlin in turn one to claim the lead.

Newlin battled back to reclaim the lead in turn four and the pair waged a wheel to wheel battle, duking it out through traffic over the remaining circuits.  Hartlaub came up just short and crossed under the checkered flag in 2nd.

“Once again, I feel like we had the car to beat tonight in the 358. Driving from the 7th starting spot to running the leader down from that far back just shows how great of a piece my team gives me each and every week. I would have loved to get our new partners with J Fuels in victory lane on our debut night with their logo on the car, but I just made one too many mistakes once I passed Zach and left him the opportunity to get me back. I can’t wait to get our first win at Williams Grove being such a historic track. “, Hartlaub commented.

Hartlaub now sits 2nd in the 358 sprint car season championship point standings at Williams Grove Speedway, just 50 points behind leader Derek Locke.

Back For More at Lincoln

Saturday night brought Hartlaub back to his home track, Lincoln Speedway, where he sits atop the 2023 season championship 358 sprint car point standings with two victories to his credit and a 110 point advantage over Steve Owings.

Hartlaub kicked off his night with a strong early run, coming from 8th to claim a runner-up finish in his heat race.  His effort gave him a handicapped starting spot of 9th for the A-main.

Although he wasn’t able to climb into the top five by the conclusion of the 20-lap feature, Hartlaub did achieve a 6th place finish and he was able to finish in front of his closest pursuers in the season championship standings.

Lincoln was just another solid night for our team. Unfortunately, you can’t win them all but when you can’t, we just go out and get all we can and tonight that just was a 6th place run. From where we started 2 years ago to where we are now, I can’t ask for anything more. I think about that a lot, I’m just thankful to have the opportunity I have to do what I love to do.”, Hartlaub said.
