Kyle Reinhardt and his Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 team have been building momentum over the past couple months and compiling solid stats along the way.

The last couple race nights haven’t yielded results that reflect that but that’s how racing is.  Now Reinhardt has turned his attention to the coming weekend’s trip back to his home state of New Jersey for a two-day event at Bridgeport Motorsports Park, a high speed facility where the Neptune City native has posted impressive stats over the past couple years, including a victory almost exactly one year ago this week.

ON A MISSION

After posting four top-ten finishes in a five-race stretch at Lincoln Speedway, Reinhardt didn’t get the result he was looking for in the track’s season finale on October 19th.  A respectable qualifying run and heat race effort put him mid pack for the main event but he wasn’t able to make forward progress and settled for a 17th place finish.

A week later at BAPS Motor Speedway, Reinhardt again showed the good speed the team has had in recent months, posting the 2nd quickest lap in his group, transferring through his heat, and earning the 3rd starting spot for the 30-lap Finkenbinder Memorial.  Unfortunately, while passing in a top five spot, he got into the marbles and caught the fence, bringing an early end to what would have otherwise been another solid outing.

This weekend Reinhardt will have a great opportunity to hit reset at a track that has been to his liking since the 4-tenths mile, high banked configuration opened a few years ago in Swedesboro, NJ.

Reinhardt’s 2023 stats at Bridgeport Motorsports Park were as solid as they come.  Three races, three top five finishes, including a $15,000 victory in the Oktoberfest event.  The other outings were a 2nd with the All Star Circuit of Champions and a 5th with High Limit Racing.

“I’m really looking forward to going back home to race.”, Reinhardt commented.

We have been really consistent there (at Bridgeport) on the new configuration and I love racing there.  The place is so badass fast.  I got my first 410 win in my home state there last year, which was great with so many family and friends there.”

“We’ve had really good speed lately, so I think we can put on a good show this weekend.”

Because of a rainout earlier this year, this weekend’s event will be Reinhardt’s first opportunity to compete at Bridgeport this year.

“We’re due for a Coors victory lane beer shower.”, Reinhardt said.

UP NEXT

After this weekend’s two-day event at Bridgeport Motorsports Park, which will be available via live stream at DirtTrackDigest.tv for those who cannot make it, Reinhardt will quickly turn things around and head south to compete at the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, NC with the World of Outlaws.  That event takes place over four days, November 6th-9th.

Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway against the World of Outlaws, Kyle Reinhardt showcased his team’s recent speed.

The Keystone Showdown served as the stage for Reinhardt in his familiar Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91.  The team has found consistent speed the last few months and it showed against some of the toughest competition in sprint car racing.

BACK ON TRACK

The month of October opened with one of the most anticipated weekends of the year, the National Open at Williams Grove Speedway on October 4th and 5th.  After showing good speed at the legendary oval in recent outings, Reinhardt came into the weekend feeling good about his chances to make the shows and post good finishes.  The weekend didn’t unfold as hoped though, and both shows ended in the B-main, short of the goal.

Reinhardt and team didn’t dwell on the National Open results.  They got back to work and turned their focus toward their next opportunity, which would come one week later at Lincoln Speedway, another track where he has displayed good speed recently.  In his last two outings at the Pigeon Hills oval, he posted finishes of 4th and 6th to add to two other top-ten finishes there earlier in the season.

The night got off to a positive start when Reinhardt turned in the 3rd quickest lap in Group B qualifying, a 13.964-second effort on his first of two laps.

The qualifying effort put the Neptune City, NJ native on the front row of the third heat race of the night.  Reinhardt brought home a runner-up finish behind winner Chase Dietz.  The qualifying run put him into the Dash.

Reinhardt drew the third starting spot for the 8-lap dash.  The finishing order would establish the front four rows of the main event lineup.  At the drop of the green, he grabbed the 2nd spot behind leader Sheldon Haudenchild.  He held that position until lap five and ultimately finished 4th to claim the outside row two starting spot for the A-main.

In the 35-lap finale, the opening laps shuffled Reinhardt back to 6th, and by lap ten he had dropped to 9th.  During the middle third of the race, he briefly found himself outside of the top ten looking in but he battled his way back to 9th as the race entered the final ten circuits.

David Gravel wrestled the 9th spot away from Reinhardt with five laps remaining, relegating him to a hard-fought 10th-place finish.

“It was a great night for us.  Disappointed with our feature effort.  We slipped pretty bad at the drop of the green but overall it was a great night making the dash and finishing top-ten at an Outlaw event.”, Reinhardt commented.

“We have been solid the last few months.  We have about eight dates remaining on our 2024 schedule and we are working hard to put ourselves in position to win races.”

UP NEXT

Reinhardt will return to Lincoln Speedway Saturday night for the track’s season finale, Night of Champions, which will award the winner with a $15,000 payday at the conclusion of a 50-lap finale.

Prior to the night’s racing action, Reinhardt will make an appearance at Stan’s Beverage in Carlisle, PA from 12-4pm.  Fans are encouraged to stop by to meet Kyle and get an up close look at his No.91 sprint car, plus pick up some ice cold Coors Banquet for the weekend!

Reinhardt Posts Podium Finish at Williams Grove

Mechanicsburg, PA – September 24, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Reinhardt opened the month of September with new found speed and results that showed the momentum he was building.

The three day Tuscarora 50 put a brief damper on the positive vibes in the No.91 pit area as the team struggled to get their powerplant to perform to its potential.

After a weekend off, Reinhardt returned at Williams Grove Speedway over the weekend and showed he has a lot of speed and he has his program going the right direction.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  September 20, 2024

  • Event:  Kevin Gobrecht Challenge
  • Division:  410 Sprint Cars
  • Location:  Williams Grove Speedway, Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Stats:  24 cars, Qualifying 2nd, Heat 4th (4), A-main 3rd (4)

BOLD MOVE, HEATED BATTLE

Reinhardt kicked off Friday night’s Kevin Gobrecht Challenge by ripping off the second quickest lap in qualifying, just 0.071 seconds behind quick timer T.J. Stutts.

He proceeded to transfer to the A-main with a 4th place finish in his heat race to put the Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 in the show with a starting spot outside row two.

Reinhardt started 4th in the 25-lap A-main and quickly grabbed the 3rd spot with a power move around the outside of Lucas Wolfe off turn four on the opening lap.

The Neptune City, NJ native chased Stutts and Justin Whittal, never leaving them out of sight.  Just past the midpoint of the race, Freddie Rahmer drew close to Reinhardt in lapped traffic but the No.91 was up to the challenge, maintaining a grasp on 3rd.

Following a red flag with ten laps remaining, Reinhardt took his shot.  He slid under Stutts in turn three and briefly held second before Stutts crossed over and reclaimed the spot.

Reinhardt continued to challenge Stutts, pressuring him high and low to take away the runner up position, but couldn’t wrestle the spot away and took the 3rd place finish.

“I’m happy with our speed right now.  We’ve worked hard to get to this point.  As long as we keep up with that, opportunities to win will come as well.”, Reinhardt commented.

Reinhardt will need to continue to build on his recent performance to close out the season with a good foundation for 2025.  He has about a dozen planned races remaining on his 2024 schedule, with over half of those against the World of Outlaws.  The other half against the tough Central PA regulars.

UP NEXT

Reinhardt will return to Williams Grove Speedway this Friday for the Outlaw tune-up, then will enter the Weldon Sterner Memorial Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.

Keen Overcoming Issues, Incidents and Learning Curve in Rookie 410 Sprint Season

Port Royal, PA – September 6, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

It’s been a tough summer for 410 sprint car rookie Kyle Keen.

His season started reasonably well for a rookie on the tough Central PA circuit.  He qualified for 11 of his first 15 events and had an average finishing position of 18th.  It wasn’t about the finishing position, it was about finishing.  Making as many laps as possible each night to give himself the best chance to learn and improve.  He was accomplishing that goal.

As summer got into full gear, there seemed to be one challenge after another.  Between part failures, the learning curve, and incidents it seemed never-ending.

Keen went into 410 sprint car racing knowing it wouldn’t be easy though, so he just kept grinding it out.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  September 2, 2024

  • Event:  Labor Day Classic
  • Division:  410 Sprint Cars
  • Location:  Port Royal Speedway, ort Royal, PA
  • Stats:  40 cars, Group 1 Qualifying 3rd, Heat 2nd (4), A-main 20th (9)

OFF TRACK

PA Speedweek brought on the first hurdle of the summer for Keen when he encountered an engine part failure at Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland.  It was his third Speedweek race attempt and third DNQ (did not qualify) but against the stout fields that series draws, there was certainly no reason to stress over the results.

The engine issue sidelined the Fine Line Auto Body, Hess Bid / Hess Auctioneers, Keen Parts / CorvetteParts.net, Shetron Trailers, Heishman Racing Fuels, DL Lehman Construction, Fuel Ox No.17k for four weeks.  Keen returned to Williams Grove Speedway on August 2nd, shook off the rust, and logged a 16th-place finish.  It seemed all was normal again.

That feeling was replaced with frustration over the following two weeks.  Keen raced four times, making only one feature and damaging two cars.

After showing good speed early in the evening in his first-ever venture to the track, Keen got caught up in an incident that started a few rows in front of him in the A-main at Lincoln Speedway on August 17th, then suffered a steering part issue one week later on August 23rd at Williams Grove Speedway in the B-main.

Each week he bounced back after long hours in the shop preparing to get back to the track.  The labor and expense are difficult enough to overcome but the mental toughness required to soldier on through trials like these is even harder for a driver, even if sometimes the circumstances are not your fault.

Confidence wanes.  Self-doubt creeps in.

Overcoming that can often be more difficult than figuring out the right setup for the race car.  They say a confident driver is worth two-tenths of a second, so when the going gets tough, all focus turns to getting back to basics.  The goal becomes to simply put together a full night, make the show, and get back to the shop with everything in one piece.

BACK ON TRACK

With racing action on August 30th and 31st washed out by rain, Keen shifted his attention to his first-ever Labor Day Classic at Port Royal Speedway.  The event provides a unique challenge to drivers and teams on the tricky daytime surface.

Keen got his afternoon off on the right foot by spinning off the 3rd quickest lap in his group to earn the 2nd starting spot in his heat race.

The Carlisle, PA native kept the momentum going, challenging for the lead on the opening lap of the heat race.  Chase Dietz fended off the surge by Keen, who settled into 2nd.  He went on to maintain full control of the runner-up spot to the finish.

Keen found himself with a top-ten starting spot for the 73rd Annual Labor Day Classic, something that quickly reinstated at least some of his confidence behind the wheel.

The only thing that didn’t go right for Keen on Monday afternoon was his setup choices for the feature.  The daylight surface was a new challenge and they guessed wrong, causing the No.17k to fall back in the running order.

Mired in 20th with less than ten laps remaining and nothing to gain from continuing, Keen retired from the event.

“We had the boat anchor out.”, Keen said with a good-natured grin.  “We missed the setup for the feature but it’s all good, it’s part of us learning to figure out what we need to be more hooked up with a full fuel load.”

“I’m proud of our team! We’ve been getting closer and closer this season.  And we haven’t quit despite some really tough challenges.  I’m really proud of how well we have been qualifying the last few races, which is a super important part of being successful in these things.”

Keen has the right attitude and work ethic to weather what his rookie season throws at him.  There are still a few races left and he intends to finish 2024 strong.

Starting a 410 sprint car program is not an easy task for anyone but it is an especially challenging effort for a family team stretching every dollar to make it happen.

After numerous highly successful years in the 305 sprint car ranks followed by quick success in the 358 division as well in his family-owned No.11z, Zach Newlin dabbled in the 410 ranks at the wheel of equipment other than his own for a couple years.  While there were some highlights in those limited outings, those rides didn’t seem to be the right fit.

In 2023 Newlin and his family decided to resurrect the family-owned team and take it to the 410 sprint car level.

PERSISTENCE

Newlin’s 2024 debut was delayed until June.  He came into it knowing he was down on horsepower compared to most of his competition but he needed to hit the track to start working out the bugs and building a notebook.  It takes time to build a 410 sprint car program and you can’t do it in the shop.

His first five outings of this season were a struggle.  The team battled a mystery power issue that would creep up mid-race.  The frustration reached unwanted levels.

Doubts briefly crept into Newlin’s mind.  Did he belong here?  Was it worth it?

The short answer to both:  yes.

Newlin and team kept digging and finally got to the bottom of the issue.  When Port Royal Speedway’s Labor Day Classic hit the clay on Monday afternoon, he timed 6th quick in his group, right in the thick of the regulars.

An 8th place finish in his heat race on the tough daytime surface put Newlin in the B-main where he raced to a 9th place finish from the 10th starting spot in his Ron’s RV Sales, Butler Hill Maple Farm, Tuscarora Roofing Co., Dillman Hauling,  Wintergreen Window Cleaning, Christine Booher, Safety-Kleen, Strange Oval, Walker Performance Filtration, Newlin Bar Service, The Podium Awards, Nesbit Innovations, Deimler Chiropractic and Your Dry Basement No.11z

Statistically it wasn’t a day to write home about but for this small team it was a hurdle cleared.  Now the process of tuning their car’s handling can finally begin in earnest.

To help broaden the smiles in the team’s pit after the race, Newlin was selected as the winner of the J&S Classics Warrior Award.  The prize, awarded to the driver who finishes in the position of the pill that is drawn, is presented courtesy of Sandy Kline.

While all of this has been playing out over the past couple months, Newlin has had a bigger engine being rebuilt as time and funds allowed.  That powerplant is nearly ready, so that award money will come in very handy to help keep this team progressing toward being a weekly competitor.

“I can’t thank Sandy (Kline) enough for putting up this award money and for everything she does for the sport.  All of us in the pit area appreciate her.”, Newlin said.

“I want to thank my mom, my dad, and my entire family for everything they do to help this team exist.  We knew this wouldn’t be easy.  We’re going to keep working hard to build a competitive 410 team.”

“We wouldn’t be able to do this without the support of our partners.  I want to say thanks to them all and I hope everyone will go out and support those folks who support us.”

UP NEXT

Tentatively, the next race for Newlin in the 11z is September 21st at BAPS Motor Speedway.  Other options are under consideration.  Stay tuned to Zach Newlin Racing on Facebook and Twitter for schedule updates!

Newlin has three 358 sprint car races remaining in the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m, all of which are at Williams Grove Speedway on September 13th, 20th and 21st.

Kyle Reinhardt Reels Off Third Straight Top Ten

Abbottstown, PA – September 3, 2024

What was supposed to be a three-race holiday weekend in Central PA for Kyle Reinhardt, quickly turned into a single event on Sunday night thanks to Mother Nature’s unwelcome visit to the region on a traditionally big Labor Day weekend of racing.

Reinhardt made the most of the night, snagging his third consecutive top-ten finish.

The Neptune City, NJ native is building momentum at an opportune time as several big events sit on the horizon.

QUICK RESULTS

  • Division:  410 Sprint Cars
  • Location:  Lincoln Speedway, Abbottstown, PA

KEEP IT ROLLIN'

Reinhardt was the 21st car to hit the track for qualifying Sunday evening in the 31-car field.  A late slot is often difficult for teams to overcome as track conditions decline, but the Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 was up to the task, registering the 8th quickest lap overall.

From his front-row starting spot in heat race number two,  Reinhardt challenged polesitter Troy Wagaman Jr. at the drop of the green.  He followed in the runner-up spot, working to chase down the leader, but ultimately settled for the 2nd place finish.

Reinhardt started outside the 4th row in the 40-lap A-main but couldn’t find a rhythm during the opening laps and slipped back to the 10th position.

As the race neared the halfway mark, Reinhardt gained momentum and started to move forward, taking over the 8th position on lap twenty-two.  Ten laps later he took possession of 6th and held a firm grasp on it to the checkers to collect his third consecutive top-ten finish.

“I’m very happy with our speed right now.  Timing good the last few weeks and competing for top-fives is a great jump from where we were the last few months.”, Reinhardt commented.  “We are looking to keep carrying the momentum through the rest of the season.”

UP NEXT

The three-night, High Limit Racing Sanctioned Tuscarora 50 event is next up for Reinhardt.  He and his team will sign in at Port Royal Speedway on September 5th, 6th, and 7th for the 57th annual edition of the lucrative race.

On both Thursday and Friday, the 410 sprint cars will race for $10,000 and Saturday’s finale will pay $57,000 to the victor.

Reinhardt Caps Good Weekend With Top Five at Kramer Klash

Abbottstown, PA – August 27, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos /WRT Speedwerx Photography

On the heels of a tough trip to Knoxville Raceway in early August that did not live up to what he expected of himself and his team, Kyle Reinhardt and his team took a weekend off to regroup.

They returned to action over the weekend and showed they are ready to put the Midwest venture behind them and perform like they have shown they can.

NICE RECOVERY

Reinhardt kicked off his weekend at the $8,000-to-win Jack Gunn Memorial race at Williams Grove Speedway where he clocked in 10th quickest in the 28-car field.

He proceeded to log a 3rd place finish in his heat race to earn the 10th starting spot in the 30-lap main event.

Early in the finale, Reinhardt slipped outside of the top ten, running 13th as the race neared its midpoint.  A second-half push put him back into the top ten on lap twenty and a last-lap pass put him 9th in the final rundown.

RETURN TO FORM

Saturday night Reinhardt made the short tow from his race shop to the nearby Lincoln Speedway for the Kramer Klash, which offered up $7,300 to the winner in honor of the late Kramer Williamson and his famed No.73 Pink Panther race car.

Reinhardt posted the 4th fastest lap in Group B qualifying for the split 35-car field.  The lap earned him the pole in his heat race, which he took full advantage of.  The Neptune City, NJ native led all ten laps, besting Ryan Smith by 3.184 seconds.

The heat race win earned Reinhardt the 3rd starting spot for the 35-lap A-main.  After running 4th over the first nine laps, he dropped to 5th.  He held a firm grip on that spot through lap thirty when he made a final push forward, taking back 4th with five laps remaining and holding on to the checkers.

“I’m very happy with the speed we found.  We made a lot of changes to our car and are feeling comfortable with the direction we are heading.”, Reinhardt commented.

UP NEXT

A three-race weekend lies ahead for Reinhardt.  The Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 team will have the opportunity to keep the momentum going with a return to Williams Grove Speedway this Friday for the $8,000-to-win Eash Brothers Tribute, followed by the Labor Day Duel on Saturday and Sunday night at Lincoln Speedway.

Reinhardt Reflects on Tough Knoxville Nationals Week

Knoxville, IA – August 14, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

The stage doesn’t get any bigger for a 410 sprint car driver than the Knoxville Nationals.  Every August well over one hundred of the best in the world descend upon the small town in Iowa to see how they measure up and to try to grab their share of the loot from the lucrative event.

In his third trip to the Nationals back in 2021, Kyle Reinhardt reached the B-main on Saturday night after a solid week of performances.  To add to that achievement, the Neptune City, NJ native had entered the 360 Nationals the week before and came away with the Rookie of the Year award for that event.

It’s the toughest week of the year in sprint car racing and Reinhardt has lived the ups and downs since his first Nationals in 2017, reaching the Saturday night B-main two times.

Last week he was back again for the 2024 edition to take another shot at his first Nationals Saturday A-main in the Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91.

CAPPY SHAKEDOWN

Reinhardt unloaded a newly built No.91 for the Capitani Classic last Sunday aiming to shake it down at what is likely the most difficult one-day sprint car show to qualify for.

With 82 cars on hand, Reinhardt turned in the 34th quickest lap in Group B qualifying, then passed three cars to finish 9th in his heat race to move into the B-main.

From his 16th starting spot in that last-chance race, Reinhardt looked very racy.  He charged up to 7th before a late-race slip dropped him to a 9th-place finish.  While he did not advance to the A-main, it was a productive night settling into the new car.

“We had a really good car there in the B-main.  I missed my mark just a little bit going into (turn) one there with a couple of laps to go and that ended up costing me two spots but we learned some things about this car tonight, so we will take that.”, Reinhardt commented.

THE NATIONALS

Thursday was qualifying night for Reinhardt and his team.  His qualifying lap, 45th fastest in the field of 54 cars, was the beginning of a tough night.  He struggled in his heat race and retired early from the C-main, officially finishing 11th.

Reinhardt was looking to hit reset and climb out of the hole the following night, Friday’s Hard Knox program.  After qualifying 29th in Group 1, he logged a 6th-place finish in his heat race.

The car was decent in the heat race but after a few more adjustments, Reinhardt found himself in the B-main with the best car he had all week.  He started 7th and needed to reach the top three to advance to the A-main.

He quickly raced into the top five and soon after, slipped into 4th and moved alongside the 3rd place car.  Just as he did, the race was slowed for an incident, forcing him to restart in 5th since the lap had not been completed.

In the remaining laps, Reinhardt wasn’t able to build the momentum needed to get back within striking distance of a transfer spot.  He settled for a 5th place finish.

“If that race had stayed green the whole way, I’m confident we had the car to transfer.  That was the best we have been all week.”, Reinhardt said.  “I think we solved an issue we have been fighting back home in PA too.”

At Knoxville, every spot matters.  The competition is incredibly tight.  Had Reinhardt made that transfer Friday night, he would have kicked off his Saturday night in the B-main but instead he started mid-pack in the C-main.

When the green flag dropped on the C-main Saturday night, it didn’t take Reinhardt long to figure out they just weren’t as good as they had been Friday night.  He opted to park the No.91 early rather than spend resources.

SUMMING IT UP

Qualifying is certainly a huge key to any team’s Knoxville Nationals week but the format does give teams a chance to claw their way back into the mix if they can improve their performance Friday on Hard Knox night.

Reinhardt had some momentum at the end of that Friday night program and was hoping it would carry him forward Saturday night but it didn’t unfold that way.

“I’m definitely disappointed in our performance.”, Reinhardt said.  “We didn’t qualify well any of the nights we hit the track.  We still had our chances though and we got much better Friday night but it was too little, too late.”

“We have already talked about next year and agreed we need to come out here for a race or two before the Nationals to prepare and put a good effort in.  We have had some good years out here and we know we have the stuff to reach the A-main on Saturday.”

UP NEXT

Reinhardt will take this weekend off, then return for a two-race weekend on August 23rd-24th.

Friday night he will compete at the famed Mechanicsburg, PA oval, Williams Grove Speedway, in the track’s Yellow Breeches 500 night.  The following night the Neptune City, NJ native will enter the Kramer Klash at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA.

Rookie Hartlaub Focused on Improvements After Mixed July Performances; Big Week Ahead Against Touring Series

Abbottstown, PA – July 23, 2024

After facing tough fields and logging five top-ten finishes that translated to finishing 5th in the point standings in the 9-race Pennsylvania Speedweek series in early July, Kody Hartlaub carried a little extra confidence with him.

That said, the 410 sprint car rookie knew none of those accomplishments would guarantee him anything going forward.  In sprint car racing, everything is earned and nothing is given.  When mid-July rolled around, it was time to get back to learning and earning.

PLUGGING AWAY

When Williams Grove Speedway rained out on July 12th, Lincoln Speedway became the first up for Hartlaub following Speedweek.  He picked up where he left off, qualifying 3rd quickest, finishing 4th in his heat race, and earning the pole for the A-main.

Hartlaub led early but fell to 3rd on lap nine.  By the halfway mark he was running 5th.  He maintained his grasp on the spot for a long stretch before slipping to 7th in the final laps.

On July 19th the Trone Outdoor No.39 team made their way to a special 410 sprint car event at Clinton County Speedway in Mill Hall, PA.  In his first competitive laps at the track, Hartlaub qualified 4th fastest in Group A and finished 3rd in his heat race.

Hartlaub started 11th in the main event and raced his way up to 8th in the opening laps before a bobble cost him all his forward progress.

After finding his rhythm again, Hartlaub pushed his way back into the top ten again.  Unfortunately, another slip in the late going left him with an 11th-place finish.

Saturday night July 20th Hartlaub returned to his home track, Lincoln Speedway.  He started 6th in his heat and showed speed but an early decision to attack the low line on the opening lap left him pinned on the bottom until nearly the midpoint of the race.

When Hartlaub finally got to the high line around the speedway, he was fast.  It was too late though and he settled for the 6th-place finish.

Upon his return to the pits, the team discovered an issue.  An oil pump failure sidelined Hartlaub for the remainder of the night.

“We have been so good early every night.  I mean really good.  I couldn’t ask for more there but we have been struggling in the feature with a full load of fuel.”, Hartlaub said.

“We need to figure that out and make some changes but it’s not all the car.  I still have some learning to do behind the wheel too.  The more I race, the more experience I get so I hopefully don’t repeat mistakes.”

“I’m not happy with the results the past couple weeks but we just have to keep plugging away.  We need to work on our slick track setup.  We have some ideas and we are going to go test soon to hopefully zero in on the changes this car needs to be as fast at the end of the night as it is at the beginning.”

THE WEEK AHEAD

Hartlaub and the Trone Outdoor No.39 team will travel to Lernerville Speedway on July 23rd for the High Limit Racing Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup.  It will be another new track for the 410 sprint car rookie.

“The competition will be tough and I will have the added challenge of a new track, but I will approach it like any other race.”, Hartlaub said of his maiden trip to the western Pennsylvania facility.

“Since I have been racing a lot more with the Trone 39 team, I have been more calm during race night.    My thoughts and energy are focused on learning from every opportunity and doing the best job I can.”

“That’s a byproduct of having great people around me.  Kevin (Frey), John (Trone), and everyone else not only do their part, they are also very supportive.  That allows me to focus on my role as a driver.  It’s a great team to be a part of.  I’m thankful for the opportunity.”

The following night they will return to Central PA to take on the World of Outlaws at BAPS Motor Speedway on July 24th and they will close out the Outlaw’s PA summer swing at Williams Grove Speedway on July 26th and 27th.

Hartlaub’s Breakout Performance: Five Top-Ten Finishes in PA Speedweek, 410 Rookie Earns Top-Five in Points

Selinsgrove, PA – July 10, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Consider these facts.  Before the 2024 Pennsylvania Speedweek, Kody Hartlaub had fewer than 30 races under his belt in a winged 410 sprint car.  Nearly a dozen of those were before this season and had been scattered randomly, providing no real consistent learning opportunity.

Hartlaub’s 410 starts had all been made at four different tracks.  On just six occasions the East Berlin, PA driver raced a 410 sprint car on back-to-back nights and never more than that.

On June 29th, Hartlaub embarked on ten straight nights of racing known as Pennsylvania Speedweek.  Oh and, did we mention he has a day job?  It would be a grind like he had never faced before and it would include three tracks he had never raced before at any level.

A rookie can’t become a veteran in ten days but it is certainly possible for a rookie to learn a ton and take a giant step forward, assuming he or she is up to the task.  It certainly appears Hartlaub was up to it.

OPENING VOLLEY

The opening weekend of the 2024 edition of PA Speedweek was scheduled for the three tracks where Hartlaub had the most experience:  Williams Grove, Lincoln, and BAPS Motor Speedways.  That was a plus for the Littlestown, PA native.

On opening night, Hartlaub posted the 5th quickest time in Group B and a 2nd place finish in his heat race, providing himself with a starting spot inside the top ten.  He slid backward a little but still posted a very respectable 16th-place finish.

Hartlaub noted before Speedweek that he was still learning the intense pace of a 410 feature and acknowledged how even the smallest mistake can cost a driver multiple positions.  It was obvious as Speedweek unfolded that held true on a few occasions for him.

After Saturday night’s action was rained out at Lincoln Speedway, the series moved to BAPS Motor Speedway where Hartlaub grabbed everyone’s attention by ripping off the fastest lap of the night in qualifying.  He kept the momentum up with a 3rd place finish in his heat race and a top-ten finish in the A-main.

Monday night at Lincoln Speedway, his home track, Hartlaub showed he had the experience he needed there to compete.  He qualified 5th quick, won his heat race, and finished 3rd in the feature.

UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY

At this point in the week, Hartlaub was 6th in points and it appeared he would be a factor in PA Speedweek, but would the next phase of the series on unfamiliar turf tell a different story for the 410 rookie?

Hartlaub seemed to answer that question quickly Tuesday night at Grandview Speedway when he clocked in 6th quickest overall and claimed a runner-up finish in his heat race.  He didn’t falter in the A-main either, bringing home a 9th-place finish.  It might have been the night some folks, if they weren’t already, became believers.

Port Royal Speedway on Wednesday took a little wind out of Hartlaub’s sails.  Although he had a few laps under his belt at ‘The Speed Palace’, they weren’t much to go on and they came in different cars.  He qualified 14th in Group B and finished 8th in his heat, both low points of the week thus far.

The team corrected a left front shock issue after the heat race which made the car better for the B-main but it wasn’t enough and Hartlaub’s night ended in 8th place in the consolation race.

Thursday was a new day.  Hartlaub shook off the disappointing night and rolled south to Hagerstown, MD for night seven of PA Speedweek.  Again he faced a new track and again he impressed immediately.

Hartlaub qualified 4th quickest overall and took the win in his heat race over Anthony Macri who started alongside the Trone No.39 on the front row.

The qualifying efforts earned the 5th starting spot for Hartlaub in the 30-lap finale.  Although he lost a few spots, an 8th-place finish was a great result under the circumstances.

The run also put Hartlaub in 5th in the PA Speedweek point standings with three races remaining.

BRING IT HOME

Back on more familiar turf Friday night a Williams Grove, Hartlaub turned in a respectable lap that put him 8th fastest in Group B.  A 4th place finish in his heat race put him 15th in the starting lineup for the $20,000-to-win Mitch Smith Memorial.

Hartlaub dropped back as far as 17th in the early going but rebounded for a 14th-place finish.

The remaining two races at Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedways would test Hartlaub to hang on to a top-five points position.  As documented, Port Royal was the lone blemish on his week thus far and Selinsgrove would be another brand-new facility for him.

Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, Hartlaub showed improvement over his previous outing there by clicking off the 7th-best lap in Group A qualifying to earn the 3rd starting spot in his heat race.  Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned in that qualifying race and he slid backwards to a 7th place finish.

Hartlaub recovered by transferring to the feature through the B-main with a 4th-place finish.  After starting 24th, he went the full 30 laps to record a 20th-place finish.  It was a small victory for Hartlaub, who had never been able to get a full night under his belt at the Juniata County Fairgrounds oval.

By the time the series reached Sunday’s finale at Selinsgrove Speedway, there was probably no reason for anyone to be surprised when Hartlaub qualified 2nd quick overall in his first competitive laps ever on the track.  There’s a chance there were raised eyebrows though when he backed it up by winning his heat race.

In the redraw, Hartlaub pulled the pole.  He raced inside the top five until nearly the halfway mark, then slipped a couple of spots to wind up 8th in the final rundown.  It was his 5th top-ten finish in nine Speedweek races and it was his 8th top-ten finish in his last twelve races in the Trone Outdoor No.39.

Hartlaub earned 5th in the final series points.  He also earned a lot of respect and numerous fans in the process.

It’s going to be a fun second half of 2024 to watch and no one will be surprised when Hartlaub parks the No.39 in victory lane.  The only question is when and where will it happen.

“Pennsylvania Speedweek was ten days of pure hard work and dedication to a sport we all love. I had the opportunity to race at three new tracks and keep learning this 410 thing. Overall I consider this a great week with 1 quick time, 3 heat race wins, and 5 top-ten feature finishes.”, Hartlaub commented.

“With this being my rookie 410 season there is always room for improvement but I am super proud to finish 5th overall in Speedweek points. I want to thank John Trone, Kevin Frey, Barry Jacobs, Kevin And Stacy Hartlaub, Pat Brewer, Audrey Hartlaub, Austin Funk, Justin Reece, Patrick McCole, Mike McDonald, Jimmy O’Brien, Jessica O’Brien, and everyone else who helped this entire week.”

“I also want to send a huge thank you to our partners who make this all possible:  Trone Outdoor, J Fuels, Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Bigham Appraisals, T&N Solutions and Griffith Plumbing Services.  My partners have stuck with me through this transition and I greatly appreciate that.”

UP NEXT

Hartlaub and the Trone Outdoor No.39 team will return to their regular weekly cadence this week, competing at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night July 12th and Lincoln Speedway Saturday night, July 13th.
