Ashley Cappetta Embarks on a New Journey, Balancing Racing and Auctioneering Aspirations

Abbottstown, PA – August 29, 2024

Ashley Cappetta is starting a new chapter this fall, balancing her passion for racing with an exciting new endeavor—becoming a licensed auctioneer. Cappetta, who has been involved in the auction business since she was 16, is enrolled in classes to earn her auctioneer’s license in a single semester.

“I’m excited to start this journey,” Cappetta shared. “I’ve had a passion for the auction business since I was 16 years old, when I truly started going to auctions—buying and reselling items at flea markets to fund my race team. I eventually ended up working for an auction house, doing everything except auctioneering—photos, listings, advertisements.”

Cappetta’s ultimate goal is to run her own auction house, but for now, she’s focused on getting licensed and gaining hands-on experience. “Once I’m licensed, I’ll have the opportunity to work with an established auctioneer, and that’s where I’ll start,” she said. “I prefer live auctions over online ones, so my focus will be on in-house auctions.”

While Cappetta looks forward to this new venture, she faced another weekend at the track filled with challenges. “Frustrated doesn’t even begin to cover it—I feel bad for my race team,” she admitted. “It’s not from a lack of effort. The team has been working hard, both at the shop and on the track, but it feels like we’re beating our heads against the wall.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s struggles, Cappetta noted, “This week, I can’t say I could have done anything better. The car got loose in the heat race after a good start, and I feel like I’m chasing the car in the corners. We fixed the wheel spin, but it’s been one thing after another.”

Despite her frustrations, Cappetta is committed to finding a solution. “Talking out of emotion does nothing, so I use the time at the car wash to unwind and analyze the night,” she explained. “I decided it was time to make a change and pull out a new frame—the only thing we haven’t tried.”

Determined to get back on track, Cappetta and her crew have been working tirelessly. “I worked from 1:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. in the shop to get the new frame and car ready—new fuel cell, shocks, fiberglass, nose wing, wheels, fuel lines, seat insert—we have to try something else,” she said. “It’s confusing because the car felt good at BAPS, but we’re running out of options.”

Cappetta remains hopeful that the new frame and rebuilt engine will bring the turnaround she and her team need. “It’s so defeating to see the crew down. I just want to get comfortable on the track again. It’s my dream to win an important race, and I want to get things figured out before the Weldon Sterner Memorial, to put myself in a good spot. My sponsors and crew deserve it.”

Reinhardt Caps Good Weekend With Top Five at Kramer Klash

Abbottstown, PA – August 27, 2024

On the heels of a tough trip to Knoxville Raceway in early August that did not live up to what he expected of himself and his team, Kyle Reinhardt and his team took a weekend off to regroup.

They returned to action over the weekend and showed they are ready to put the Midwest venture behind them and perform like they have shown they can.

QUICK RESULTS

  • Location:  Lincoln Speedway, Abbottstown, PA
  • Stats:  35 cars, Group B Qualifying 4th, Heat 1st (1), A-main 4th (3)

NICE RECOVERY

Reinhardt kicked off his weekend at the $8,000-to-win Jack Gunn Memorial race at Williams Grove Speedway where he clocked in 10th quickest in the 28-car field.

He proceeded to log a 3rd place finish in his heat race to earn the 10th starting spot in the 30-lap main event.

Early in the finale, Reinhardt slipped outside of the top ten, running 13th as the race neared its midpoint.  A second-half push put him back into the top ten on lap twenty and a last-lap pass put him 9th in the final rundown.

RETURN TO FORM

Saturday night Reinhardt made the short tow from his race shop to the nearby Lincoln Speedway for the Kramer Klash, which offered up $7,300 to the winner in honor of the late Kramer Williamson and his famed No.73 Pink Panther race car.

Reinhardt posted the 4th fastest lap in Group B qualifying for the split 35-car field.  The lap earned him the pole in his heat race, which he took full advantage of.  The Neptune City, NJ native led all ten laps, besting Ryan Smith by 3.184 seconds.

The heat race win earned Reinhardt the 3rd starting spot for the 35-lap A-main.  After running 4th over the first nine laps, he dropped to 5th.  He held a firm grip on that spot through lap thirty when he made a final push forward, taking back 4th with five laps remaining and holding on to the checkers.

“I’m very happy with the speed we found.  We made a lot of changes to our car and are feeling comfortable with the direction we are heading.”, Reinhardt commented.

UP NEXT

A three-race weekend lies ahead for Reinhardt.  The Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 team will have the opportunity to keep the momentum going with a return to Williams Grove Speedway this Friday for the $8,000-to-win Eash Brothers Tribute, followed by the Labor Day Duel on Saturday and Sunday night at Lincoln Speedway.

Challenging Night for Ashley Cappetta: Tough Breaks and Setbacks on the Track

Abbottstown, PA – August 23, 2024

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

After a strong start to the season, Ashley Cappetta faced a rough night at the track this past weekend. Despite her early momentum, the challenges of the night proved formidable, testing her resilience and determination, “Unfortunately with the way the track was with all of the rain it received it was tough to pass.” The night started with a high pill draw lining Ashley up seventh for her heat race, “Had to make something happen on the start and I just couldn’t get anything to work. The car felt good but I didn’t want to put myself and any of my competitors in a bad spot.” Cappetta finished her heat race where she started, seventh, which had her lined up sixth for the B-main.

“In the B-main it was tough to get going but after the caution, we were better.” Ashley was up to fourth and was going for fourth when she misjudged the guardrail and ended up on her side, “I’m shocked it happened, I lacked judgment and after I hit the guardrail I gathered it back up and then spun and the car stood up and tumbled over.” Cappetta was able to restart as it did not appear that the car suffered much damage, but Ashley said the car did not feel right for the rest of the race. Cappetta would finish the night with a sixth place finish in the B-main, “All in all it was a frustrating night, especially after testing on Wednesday went well.” After a tough night Cappetta and the team are looking forward to their next race, “One positive is that we have the speed we were looking for, it just wasn’t our night. It was the first feature we haven’t qualified for this year which is still ahead of where we were compared to last season.” Another positive from the night, “In 12 years of racing I haven’t made too many mistakes and it makes you feel good knowing nights like this don’t happen often.”

Ashley and the Cappetta Racing Team will be back in action Saturday at Lincoln Speedway for the Kramer Klash.

Reinhardt Reflects on Tough Knoxville Nationals Week

Knoxville, IA – August 14, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

The stage doesn’t get any bigger for a 410 sprint car driver than the Knoxville Nationals.  Every August well over one hundred of the best in the world descend upon the small town in Iowa to see how they measure up and to try to grab their share of the loot from the lucrative event.

In his third trip to the Nationals back in 2021, Kyle Reinhardt reached the B-main on Saturday night after a solid week of performances.  To add to that achievement, the Neptune City, NJ native had entered the 360 Nationals the week before and came away with the Rookie of the Year award for that event.

It’s the toughest week of the year in sprint car racing and Reinhardt has lived the ups and downs since his first Nationals in 2017, reaching the Saturday night B-main two times.

Last week he was back again for the 2024 edition to take another shot at his first Nationals Saturday A-main in the Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91.

CAPPY SHAKEDOWN

Reinhardt unloaded a newly built No.91 for the Capitani Classic last Sunday aiming to shake it down at what is likely the most difficult one-day sprint car show to qualify for.

With 82 cars on hand, Reinhardt turned in the 34th quickest lap in Group B qualifying, then passed three cars to finish 9th in his heat race to move into the B-main.

From his 16th starting spot in that last-chance race, Reinhardt looked very racy.  He charged up to 7th before a late-race slip dropped him to a 9th-place finish.  While he did not advance to the A-main, it was a productive night settling into the new car.

“We had a really good car there in the B-main.  I missed my mark just a little bit going into (turn) one there with a couple of laps to go and that ended up costing me two spots but we learned some things about this car tonight, so we will take that.”, Reinhardt commented.

THE NATIONALS

Thursday was qualifying night for Reinhardt and his team.  His qualifying lap, 45th fastest in the field of 54 cars, was the beginning of a tough night.  He struggled in his heat race and retired early from the C-main, officially finishing 11th.

Reinhardt was looking to hit reset and climb out of the hole the following night, Friday’s Hard Knox program.  After qualifying 29th in Group 1, he logged a 6th-place finish in his heat race.

The car was decent in the heat race but after a few more adjustments, Reinhardt found himself in the B-main with the best car he had all week.  He started 7th and needed to reach the top three to advance to the A-main.

He quickly raced into the top five and soon after, slipped into 4th and moved alongside the 3rd place car.  Just as he did, the race was slowed for an incident, forcing him to restart in 5th since the lap had not been completed.

In the remaining laps, Reinhardt wasn’t able to build the momentum needed to get back within striking distance of a transfer spot.  He settled for a 5th place finish.

“If that race had stayed green the whole way, I’m confident we had the car to transfer.  That was the best we have been all week.”, Reinhardt said.  “I think we solved an issue we have been fighting back home in PA too.”

At Knoxville, every spot matters.  The competition is incredibly tight.  Had Reinhardt made that transfer Friday night, he would have kicked off his Saturday night in the B-main but instead he started mid-pack in the C-main.

When the green flag dropped on the C-main Saturday night, it didn’t take Reinhardt long to figure out they just weren’t as good as they had been Friday night.  He opted to park the No.91 early rather than spend resources.

SUMMING IT UP

Qualifying is certainly a huge key to any team’s Knoxville Nationals week but the format does give teams a chance to claw their way back into the mix if they can improve their performance Friday on Hard Knox night.

Reinhardt had some momentum at the end of that Friday night program and was hoping it would carry him forward Saturday night but it didn’t unfold that way.

“I’m definitely disappointed in our performance.”, Reinhardt said.  “We didn’t qualify well any of the nights we hit the track.  We still had our chances though and we got much better Friday night but it was too little, too late.”

“We have already talked about next year and agreed we need to come out here for a race or two before the Nationals to prepare and put a good effort in.  We have had some good years out here and we know we have the stuff to reach the A-main on Saturday.”

UP NEXT

Reinhardt will take this weekend off, then return for a two-race weekend on August 23rd-24th.

Friday night he will compete at the famed Mechanicsburg, PA oval, Williams Grove Speedway, in the track’s Yellow Breeches 500 night.  The following night the Neptune City, NJ native will enter the Kramer Klash at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA.

Hot Start, Rough Finish for Newlin at BAPS, Two-Race Weekend on Tap

Port Royal, PA – July 30, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Zach Newlin has split his seat time between the 358 sprint cars and 410 sprint cars this season but as a result of schedules, the weather, and waiting on his 410 engine to be finished, it has been difficult to get into a rhythm.

Saturday night he returned to the seat of the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car after a four-week break in the team’s schedule.  It was also his BAPS Motor Speedway season debut.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  July 27, 2024

  • Class:  358 Sprint Cars
  • Location:  BAPS Motor Speedway, York Haven, PA
  • Stats: 30 cars, Heat 1st (1), A-main 19th (11)

A LITTLE LUCK WOULD BE NICE

The night started out strong for Newlin.  He led wire to wire to take the victory in the the first of three heat races for the thirty-car field.

Newlin’s good fortune seemed to end there.  With twelve drivers participating in the redraw (the top four finishers from each heat race), he pulled the eleven pill, putting him inside row six to start the main event.

It would be a tall order but it certainly wasn’t impossible to race into the top five or better from that far back if the car was right.  Unfortunately, Newlin battled a tight race car from the start of the 25-lap A-main.  He struggled to a 19th-place finish.

410 PROGRAM UPDATE

Newlin debuted his family-owned 410 sprint car team in mid-June.  Through four starts they have made three A-mains but they have battled a recurring issue that has hampered their ability to put a complete night together.

A series of potential electrical and fueling system components that could possibly be the root cause of the mid-race issues have been explored and ruled out over the course of the four starts.  The team believes they have made some progress since their last start, so they are looking forward to getting back to the track.

UP NEXT

This weekend Newlin will return to Williams Grove Speedway in the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car for a Summer Series event.  After capturing a victory there in 2023, this season has been an up and down one at the Mechanicsburg oval for Newlin.  He owns two podium finishes in six starts but his average finish is just outside the top ten.

Saturday night the Millerstown, PA driver will strap into the Ron’s RV Sales, Butler Hill Maple Farm, Tuscarora Roofing, Dillman Hauling No.11z 410 sprint car at Port Royal Speedway.

Ashley Cappetta Honors Racing Hero, Greg Hodnett, During Speedweek

Abbottstown, PA – July 28, 2024

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Ashley Cappetta grew up around racing and at the track, there was one driver she always looked up to, Greg Hodnett. Cappetta’s uncle, Rob, was the engine builder for the Apple #12 when Greg was behind the wheel and that is how Ashley was introduced to her hero. The first time Cappetta met Hodnett, it was Opening Day at Williams Grove Speedway in 2004, a race which Greg would win, “Greg’s personality was what drew me to him and made him my favorite driver, which will never change.” The Apple #12 team had a lot of wins with Rob’s engines and Hodnett behind the wheel which means there are a lot of photos with Ashley as a kid growing up with those two Central PA racing titans.

One night at Sherry Hodnett’s salon, Cappetta and Sherry were talking about the Hodnett Classic, “Sherry and I were talking about bringing the tribute cars back to make the race feel more like it was for Greg and I asked Sherry if she needed a car that mine would be available. Sherry liked the idea and gave me the green light to do the Apple Car.”

Cappetta and her dad started with a black car which meant a major transformation was needed, “Dad and I primed and spray painted the wing red and we wrapped the car.” A lot of different people played a part in pulling this project together. Dustin Beard from Posseland Apparel helped wrap the car and Andrew Rucker had the vector files of the design and most of the decals. Ashley also had the opportunity to see one of the Apple Cars that is in the storage building at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing, to make sure all of the details on the car were accurate. The only thing not exactly the same was the wheels, “We kept black wheels because it was what we had and it wasn’t cost-effective to get chrome ones.”

“It was definitely hard to put this deal together and there was a lot of emotion behind it but it was totally worth it.” In addition to the emotion, there was a lot of history behind the project, “Bob Stewart (Stewart owned the Apple Car), sponsored me and my softball number was always #12, that car and number got me invested in racing.” Another tie-in to the #12 was that Greg attended Ashley’s 12th birthday party, “that was my best birthday party ever.”

“Rolling into Port Royal, it was emotional, I know how much it meant to Greg.” Fans loved seeing the car and many stories were shared about Greg throughout the night, “I met a lot of nice and new fans at the autograph session. It’s always nice to connect with fans and it was rewarding seeing the fans appreciate the car.”

Ashley and the other tribute cars got ready to pace the field before the feature, “I was ok emotionally until I got into the race car and was sitting out on the track, and then as soon as the car fired I teared up right away.” Along with Cappetta’s Apple #12, Dylan Orwig had a replica of one of Greg’s Australian cars Kody Hartlaub was in the Trone #39, Anthony Macri had a Jim & Sandy Kline #22 wing and Troy Wagaman was running a Heffner Racing #27, “I had tears in my eyes the entire time I was on the track. The crowd had their phones lit up, officials were giving us thumbs up and I had some of the best sprint car drivers in the country along side of me.”

Cappetta watched the feature from the infield, “Overall it was an awesome night. I got to spend time with Sherry, I had my friends and race team with me and it was a huge honor to run the car in honor of my favorite driver who is the reason I fell in love with racing.”

After positive feedback from fans at the Hodnett Classic, fans were looking forward to seeing the car in action on the track. Ashley had a discussion with Bob Stewart, Sherry Hodnett and Pat Sterner and the car will be raced at the 21st Annual Weldon Sterner Memorial at Lincoln Speedway on September 28.

“I am very grateful to have met someone like him because if it wasn’t for him I don’t know if I’d be in the driver’s seat. It was incredibly hard to climb back in the car but in 2019 I did it for him because I know he wouldn’t want me to quit and I wouldn’t have gotten my first win.”

Cappetta Continues to Push Forward; Always Searching for Ways to Improve

Abbottstown, PA – July 27, 2024

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

Saturday night started with another good pill draw and this time it put Ashley on the pole to start her heat race, “The heat race was good. I had a little bit of stumble in the engine, we had too much fuel going into it.” The engine stumble hit the hardest on the starts, “I felt bad for the guy in third, I’m thankful that he gave me a little shove.”
Cappetta won her heat, putting her in the redraw for the feature. After the heat, Cappetta and the team called the engine builder and were able to change things in the fuel system for the feature, “The temperatures were cooler than they have been on Saturday which made a big difference. We ended up having to make some adjustments due to the weather conditions.”

When the field saw the green for the feature the engine stumble was gone. With the engine stumble not an issue Cappetta could focus on the race, “The car was loose early and I was not comfortable. I ended up with the wing in the trunk early, I didn’t want it back so early but I had no choice based on what I was working with.” Having the wing so far back helped Cappetta glue the car to the bottom of the track, “Unfortunately it was too late, I was getting ready to pass a car before the third red. It’s hard to say where I would have ended up. We ended the night with a top 10 but not sure that would have happened if the top two cars hadn’t wrecked out.”

With a week off to regroup Cappetta and the team will be focused on figuring out how to get the car better in the features, “We really need to get this slick track figured out. We’re having a heck of a time and can’t figure out why.” During the downtime, Ashley will be on vacation with her family, a much-needed respite from the grind of running her own business and race team.

Ashley would like to thank the fans and everyone who purchased merchandise on Saturday, “I appreciate all of the support from the fans before and after the races, and for everyone that bought merchandise. We are going to be able to give the Emig Family a good amount as a portion of my merchandise sales from the weekend will go to them.”

During intermission it was brought to Cappetta’s attention that another team filed a complaint with officials that she was wearing an Apple watch, something that is not permitted per Lincoln’s rulebook, “I screwed up not knowing the rulebook, there’s no excuse to miss knowing the rules. As soon as the official approached me, I removed the watch and did not put it back on for the rest of the night.” As many people do, Ashley uses the watch to track her health and fitness, “When I think of my Apple watch, I use it to track steps and keep tabs on reminders throughout the day. I’ve never used it for anything other than that.”

The amount of effort it would take to use an Apple watch to gain an advantage is not something that Cappetta is interested in, “My mind is so focused on what I need to do in the car I don’t have time to worry about communicating with the team. Plus the team is older and technology is not something they would even think about trying to figure out and use. Then there’s the fact that you’d have to have both your watch and phone to do anything illegal and I’ve never taken my phone onto the track.”

Cappetta had one final statement regarding the allegations made: “Our trailer is always open. Anyone can come in and take a look or talk to me at any time. I’ve put too much into what I’ve built and have too much pride to cheat. That is something the ACR team will never do.”

Rookie Hartlaub Focused on Improvements After Mixed July Performances; Big Week Ahead Against Touring Series

Abbottstown, PA – July 23, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

After facing tough fields and logging five top-ten finishes that translated to finishing 5th in the point standings in the 9-race Pennsylvania Speedweek series in early July, Kody Hartlaub carried a little extra confidence with him.

That said, the 410 sprint car rookie knew none of those accomplishments would guarantee him anything going forward.  In sprint car racing, everything is earned and nothing is given.  When mid-July rolled around, it was time to get back to learning and earning.

PLUGGING AWAY

When Williams Grove Speedway rained out on July 12th, Lincoln Speedway became the first up for Hartlaub following Speedweek.  He picked up where he left off, qualifying 3rd quickest, finishing 4th in his heat race, and earning the pole for the A-main.

Hartlaub led early but fell to 3rd on lap nine.  By the halfway mark he was running 5th.  He maintained his grasp on the spot for a long stretch before slipping to 7th in the final laps.

On July 19th the Trone Outdoor No.39 team made their way to a special 410 sprint car event at Clinton County Speedway in Mill Hall, PA.  In his first competitive laps at the track, Hartlaub qualified 4th fastest in Group A and finished 3rd in his heat race.

Hartlaub started 11th in the main event and raced his way up to 8th in the opening laps before a bobble cost him all his forward progress.

After finding his rhythm again, Hartlaub pushed his way back into the top ten again.  Unfortunately, another slip in the late going left him with an 11th-place finish.

Saturday night July 20th Hartlaub returned to his home track, Lincoln Speedway.  He started 6th in his heat and showed speed but an early decision to attack the low line on the opening lap left him pinned on the bottom until nearly the midpoint of the race.

When Hartlaub finally got to the high line around the speedway, he was fast.  It was too late though and he settled for the 6th-place finish.

Upon his return to the pits, the team discovered an issue.  An oil pump failure sidelined Hartlaub for the remainder of the night.

“We have been so good early every night.  I mean really good.  I couldn’t ask for more there but we have been struggling in the feature with a full load of fuel.”, Hartlaub said.

“We need to figure that out and make some changes but it’s not all the car.  I still have some learning to do behind the wheel too.  The more I race, the more experience I get so I hopefully don’t repeat mistakes.”

“I’m not happy with the results the past couple weeks but we just have to keep plugging away.  We need to work on our slick track setup.  We have some ideas and we are going to go test soon to hopefully zero in on the changes this car needs to be as fast at the end of the night as it is at the beginning.”

THE WEEK AHEAD

Hartlaub and the Trone Outdoor No.39 team will travel to Lernerville Speedway on July 23rd for the High Limit Racing Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup.  It will be another new track for the 410 sprint car rookie.

“The competition will be tough and I will have the added challenge of a new track, but I will approach it like any other race.”, Hartlaub said of his maiden trip to the western Pennsylvania facility.

“Since I have been racing a lot more with the Trone 39 team, I have been more calm during race night.    My thoughts and energy are focused on learning from every opportunity and doing the best job I can.”

“That’s a byproduct of having great people around me.  Kevin (Frey), John (Trone), and everyone else not only do their part, they are also very supportive.  That allows me to focus on my role as a driver.  It’s a great team to be a part of.  I’m thankful for the opportunity.”

The following night they will return to Central PA to take on the World of Outlaws at BAPS Motor Speedway on July 24th and they will close out the Outlaw’s PA summer swing at Williams Grove Speedway on July 26th and 27th.

SEASON STATS

32 races, 0 wins, 3 top 5’s, 12 top 10’s, 22 top 15’s, 29 top 20

Fallen Firefighter Race Made for a Rough Night; Cappetta Looking Forward to Getting Back to the Track this Weekend

Abbottstown, PA – July 18, 2024

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Garry Ferguson / WRT Speedwerx

Sometimes when you get what you wish for it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Last year Cappetta wanted nothing more than to pull a low number at pill draw. Cappetta’s pill draw luck took a turn this season and the team has been consistently drawing low numbers, but not low enough to start on the pole of her heat, most weeks she has lined up second, “I’m tired of starting second, if the person in first is playing games you don’t want the jump to be called. At this point I would honestly rather start third, there is so much pressure starting on the front row.”

The start of Cappetta’s heat race put her behind the eight-ball, “I felt that the start of the heat race was not good and thought it should have been called back and it wasn’t.” Cappetta fell back to third right away, “Falling back early on a track like that was rough. Coming off turn 4 it was dirty and slick and I just didn’t have the car to make up for it.” Cappetta did move her line up after seeing other drivers make it work but it was too late at that point to make much of a difference, “It sucks that deal happened, but if I had a better car I would have been able to make up for it.”

Cappetta lined up 17th for the feature and was able to make her way up through the field, “If I could have gotten by one car a little bit sooner I think we could have had a top 10. The last several months we have been having issues with the car falling on the right rear and on Saturday we did not have that problem at all.” Similar to the heat race, moving up the track would have likely led to better results, “When its slick like it was on Saturday I need to work on getting comfortable moving up to the top. I wasn’t comfortable enough to move up during the feature but it would have helped me get by cars running the same line as me.” Cappetta finished the night crossing the line thirteenth, “I’m looking forward to moving on to next week and hope for better results.”

Fallen Firefighters Night Special for Cappetta

Once again Cappetta ran a special wing for the Fallen Firefighters Race/”Guise-Little Memorial” on Saturday, “I’ve known the Little Family for a long time and have gotten to meet the Guise Family being involved with the race, they are an incredible group of people.”

Cappetta, a volunteer firefighter herself, knows how special this race is, “Anytime you lose someone that commits a service to the community it is an honor to honor their life. These people are dedicating their time for free with no other benefit than helping people, and they paid the ultimate sacrifice in doing that.”

There are a lot of incredible people that put their heart and soul into the race, Don Livingston, Whitney Dietrich and Jeff Staub, plus countless others. Prior to the start of the 410 sprint car feature, Cappetta had the opportunity to pace the field alongside Chad Trout, who was also running a special wing design for the night, “We’re thankful that Chad is willing to work with us to have the special wing wrap and it was neat to get to pace the field with him.”

Racing With a Heavy Heart

News spread through the pits prior to cars taking the track about fellow racer, Riley Emig’s motorcycle accident, “Before I even started racing on Saturday I heard the news about Riley and it was on my mind all night.” Not far from the track, Emig was involved in an accident that unfortunately took his life, “I raced with Riley and watching him race quarter midgets, it was a hard pill to swallow, especially hearing the news on Fallen Firefighters Night, knowing his sister is involved with the fire company.”

Ashley and the entire Cappetta Racing Team are keeping Riley’s friends, family and fellow racers in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.

Hartlaub’s Breakout Performance: Five Top-Ten Finishes in PA Speedweek, 410 Rookie Earns Top-Five in Points

Selinsgrove, PA – July 10, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

Consider these facts.  Before the 2024 Pennsylvania Speedweek, Kody Hartlaub had fewer than 30 races under his belt in a winged 410 sprint car.  Nearly a dozen of those were before this season and had been scattered randomly, providing no real consistent learning opportunity.

Hartlaub’s 410 starts had all been made at four different tracks.  On just six occasions the East Berlin, PA driver raced a 410 sprint car on back-to-back nights and never more than that.

On June 29th, Hartlaub embarked on ten straight nights of racing known as Pennsylvania Speedweek.  Oh and, did we mention he has a day job?  It would be a grind like he had never faced before and it would include three tracks he had never raced before at any level.

A rookie can’t become a veteran in ten days but it is certainly possible for a rookie to learn a ton and take a giant step forward, assuming he or she is up to the task.  It certainly appears Hartlaub was up to it.

OPENING VOLLEY

The opening weekend of the 2024 edition of PA Speedweek was scheduled for the three tracks where Hartlaub had the most experience:  Williams Grove, Lincoln, and BAPS Motor Speedways.  That was a plus for the Littlestown, PA native.

On opening night, Hartlaub posted the 5th quickest time in Group B and a 2nd place finish in his heat race, providing himself with a starting spot inside the top ten.  He slid backward a little but still posted a very respectable 16th-place finish.

Hartlaub noted before Speedweek that he was still learning the intense pace of a 410 feature and acknowledged how even the smallest mistake can cost a driver multiple positions.  It was obvious as Speedweek unfolded that held true on a few occasions for him.

After Saturday night’s action was rained out at Lincoln Speedway, the series moved to BAPS Motor Speedway where Hartlaub grabbed everyone’s attention by ripping off the fastest lap of the night in qualifying.  He kept the momentum up with a 3rd place finish in his heat race and a top-ten finish in the A-main.

Monday night at Lincoln Speedway, his home track, Hartlaub showed he had the experience he needed there to compete.  He qualified 5th quick, won his heat race, and finished 3rd in the feature.

UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY

At this point in the week, Hartlaub was 6th in points and it appeared he would be a factor in PA Speedweek, but would the next phase of the series on unfamiliar turf tell a different story for the 410 rookie?

Hartlaub seemed to answer that question quickly Tuesday night at Grandview Speedway when he clocked in 6th quickest overall and claimed a runner-up finish in his heat race.  He didn’t falter in the A-main either, bringing home a 9th-place finish.  It might have been the night some folks, if they weren’t already, became believers.

Port Royal Speedway on Wednesday took a little wind out of Hartlaub’s sails.  Although he had a few laps under his belt at ‘The Speed Palace’, they weren’t much to go on and they came in different cars.  He qualified 14th in Group B and finished 8th in his heat, both low points of the week thus far.

The team corrected a left front shock issue after the heat race which made the car better for the B-main but it wasn’t enough and Hartlaub’s night ended in 8th place in the consolation race.

Thursday was a new day.  Hartlaub shook off the disappointing night and rolled south to Hagerstown, MD for night seven of PA Speedweek.  Again he faced a new track and again he impressed immediately.

Hartlaub qualified 4th quickest overall and took the win in his heat race over Anthony Macri who started alongside the Trone No.39 on the front row.

The qualifying efforts earned the 5th starting spot for Hartlaub in the 30-lap finale.  Although he lost a few spots, an 8th-place finish was a great result under the circumstances.

The run also put Hartlaub in 5th in the PA Speedweek point standings with three races remaining.

BRING IT HOME

Back on more familiar turf Friday night a Williams Grove, Hartlaub turned in a respectable lap that put him 8th fastest in Group B.  A 4th place finish in his heat race put him 15th in the starting lineup for the $20,000-to-win Mitch Smith Memorial.

Hartlaub dropped back as far as 17th in the early going but rebounded for a 14th-place finish.

The remaining two races at Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedways would test Hartlaub to hang on to a top-five points position.  As documented, Port Royal was the lone blemish on his week thus far and Selinsgrove would be another brand-new facility for him.

Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, Hartlaub showed improvement over his previous outing there by clicking off the 7th-best lap in Group A qualifying to earn the 3rd starting spot in his heat race.  Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned in that qualifying race and he slid backwards to a 7th place finish.

Hartlaub recovered by transferring to the feature through the B-main with a 4th-place finish.  After starting 24th, he went the full 30 laps to record a 20th-place finish.  It was a small victory for Hartlaub, who had never been able to get a full night under his belt at the Juniata County Fairgrounds oval.

By the time the series reached Sunday’s finale at Selinsgrove Speedway, there was probably no reason for anyone to be surprised when Hartlaub qualified 2nd quick overall in his first competitive laps ever on the track.  There’s a chance there were raised eyebrows though when he backed it up by winning his heat race.

In the redraw, Hartlaub pulled the pole.  He raced inside the top five until nearly the halfway mark, then slipped a couple of spots to wind up 8th in the final rundown.  It was his 5th top-ten finish in nine Speedweek races and it was his 8th top-ten finish in his last twelve races in the Trone Outdoor No.39.

Hartlaub earned 5th in the final series points.  He also earned a lot of respect and numerous fans in the process.

It’s going to be a fun second half of 2024 to watch and no one will be surprised when Hartlaub parks the No.39 in victory lane.  The only question is when and where will it happen.

“Pennsylvania Speedweek was ten days of pure hard work and dedication to a sport we all love. I had the opportunity to race at three new tracks and keep learning this 410 thing. Overall I consider this a great week with 1 quick time, 3 heat race wins, and 5 top-ten feature finishes.”, Hartlaub commented.

“With this being my rookie 410 season there is always room for improvement but I am super proud to finish 5th overall in Speedweek points. I want to thank John Trone, Kevin Frey, Barry Jacobs, Kevin And Stacy Hartlaub, Pat Brewer, Audrey Hartlaub, Austin Funk, Justin Reece, Patrick McCole, Mike McDonald, Jimmy O’Brien, Jessica O’Brien, and everyone else who helped this entire week.”

“I also want to send a huge thank you to our partners who make this all possible:  Trone Outdoor, J Fuels, Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Bigham Appraisals, T&N Solutions and Griffith Plumbing Services.  My partners have stuck with me through this transition and I greatly appreciate that.”
