Trever Feathers Salvages 6th Place Finish at Georgetown’s Mark Williams Memorial

Team Set to Return to Port Royal Speedway April 22nd

Trever Feathers and the Larry Royston Racing team made the midweek jaunt to Georgetown, DE for the Mark ‘Coot’ Williams Memorial Race on Thursday, April 13th.

With only 3 races under his belt coming into the event thanks to the contributions of Mother Nature, Feathers knows the team needs to race more.  It’s the only way they will get their equipment to the competitive level they need night in and night out.

  • Date:  April 13, 2023
  • Event:  Mark ‘Coot’ Williams Memorial
  • Track:  Georgetown Speedway
  • City, State:   Georgetown, DE
  • Quick Stats:  18 cars, Qualifying 7th in Group 1, Heat 8th (7), A-main 6th (13)

Feathers has been working hard to get consistent performance out of his equipment in the early going of this season.  It’s a difficult task given that dirt track racing is full of ever-changing variables from varying track surfaces to thousands of possible mechanical adjustments.

A trip to a different destination might be just what was needed to dial in the Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, Clem’s Garage, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Bilstein Shocks, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Bo Feathers Racing, Barry Wright Race Cars, No.20.

Uphill Battle

A poor qualifying effort in Group 1 put Feathers 7th on the starting grid for the first heat race of the evening.  While all cars would transfer to the A-main, only the top three finishers would make the redraw and guarantee themselves a starting spot in the first three rows of the $3,000-to-win main event.

After a disappointing time-trial run, Feathers had his work cut out for himself to get to a redraw spot.  While that was goal number one, at a minimum he needed to find out if he and his team had gone the right direction with the changes they had made.

Unfortunately, Feathers didn’t achieve either goal.  His heat race was cut short after contact just a couple laps into the event.  Back in the pit area, adjustments had to wait until after repairs were made.  The team installed a new nose on the car to make sure Feathers could make the call for the feature.

The Other Side of the Hill

In the feature event, working from his 13th starting spot, Feathers finally got to accomplish some things.  While the car was still not comfortable and didn’t have the balance he was looking for, he went the distance.

It wasn’t pretty, but Feathers brought home a 6th place finish.  In the process he learned some useful things about his car.

We weren’t great at all but the good news is tonight the car was good enough I could race it.  I got to the checkered flag and I got a good feel for what the car needs to make it more consistent and to make me more comfortable.“,  Feathers said.  “Last week at Port Royal (Speedway) we were so far off I couldn’t do that.  Some nights it’s not worth getting torn up trying to get something out of a car that it can’t give you.

The team’s plan to compete at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday, April 15th was washed out by rain.

We’ve only got four races in with this new car and we haven’t seen two similar surfaces yet, so we are still trying to learn what it needs.“, Feathers explained.  “We’ve really only run well one of those nights, so it’s not much fun so far this year.

Feathers went on to share some insight into himself and the team.

My car owner, Larry (Royston), doesn’t put any pressure on me.  He’s quiet and lets us work through things.  I put enough pressure on myself for both of us.  I’m working on getting the car right and I’m working on getting myself right too.”, Feathers shared.

“When things are going well and a night starts off bad, I have to keep myself from getting in my own head.  If I get frustrated and expect bad things, then I’m not focusing on the things I should be to help us improve.  I’m constantly working on my decisions and habits behind the wheel too.  Racing and working on this racecar are the only things that will fix our issues so we can perform at the level we know we are capable of.

Up Next

The team will return to Port Royal Speedway Saturday night, April 22nd.  It is the final tune-up for the super late models at ‘The Speed Palace’ before the Lucas Oil Late Model series competes there on April 30th.

Season Stats

4 races, 0 wins, 1 top 5’s, 2 top 10’s, 3 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to our last trivia question is Trever  won his first super late model race in 2012 at the Winchester (VA) Speedway!

Now, on to this week’s question.  In what year did Trever Feathers race his first full season in a limited late model?  Hint:  He had picked up his first limited late model win the year before while racing a partial schedule.

The answer in the next press release!

Kody Hartlaub Dominant in Lincoln Speedway 358 Sprint Victory

Second Career Win Comes on Heels of Friday Night Podium Finish at Williams Grove

To say Kody Hartlaub is off to a strong start in Central Pennsylvania 358 sprint car competition might be a bit of an understatement.  He led 23 of the 40 feature laps he raced over the weekend, while recording a victory and a 3rd place finish in the span of 24 hours.

Oh So Close at The Grove

Williams Grove Speedway was finally able to get their 2023 season underway Friday night and the 358 sprint cars were on the card.  Twenty-nine teams signed in and drew for their starting spot in one of three heat races.  The top six finishers from each would advance directly to the A-main, but the focus for drivers was to make the top four and claim a valuable spot in the redraw.

Hartlaub started 4th in the third and final heat race of the evening.  He simply needed to hang on to that spot, but the East Berlin (PA) driver was able to give himself a little cushion by making his way into the 3rd spot on lap three and holding on to it to the finish.

With twelve cars making the redraw, a driver can come away with a starting spot that is terrific or one that is going to be a challenge.  Hartlaub had some good fortune and drew the number two pill, putting him on the outside of the front row for the 20-lap main event.

The starting spot would certainly help, but nothing would be easy when the names around him included Locke, Fletcher, Owings, Hammaker and Herr.

Hartlaub got a solid start and held the runner-up spot for the first four laps before skillfully working his way past Chase Gutshall for the lead in his Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Hartlaub’s Furniture, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.95.

Kody held the top spot through lap nine until Cody Fletcher took advantage of an opportunity and raced by to claim the lead.  Hartlaub didn’t let the No.66a get away, remaining within striking distance.  He was unable to wrestle the spot away though and eventually was chased down by Derek Locke with two laps remaining.  Hartlaub held on for a spot on the podium in 3rd.

Being in contention at the grove is really cool.  That doesn’t happen every day.  If you can run up front here, you know you are doing pretty good.”, Hartlaub said.

We were honestly the slowest car at BAPS (Motor Speedway) during a test a few weeks ago.  We went back to the shop, did our homework and found some things.  The first race at BAPS rubbered up, so we didn’t really know what we had.  Tonight was our first true test of this new car, so it was nice to know we had speed and we are on the right path.

Success in the Pigeon Hills

The 358 sprint cars also made their first appearance of the season at Lincoln Speedway over the weekend with 29 teams rolling through the gates to compete.  Much like the night before at Williams Grove, the field drew for starting spots in one of three heat races and the top six finishers would transfer directly to the main event.  On this night, however, only the top three finishers would make the redraw.

Hartlaub’s pill draw placed him 6th on the starting grid for his heat race.  His work was cut out for him to claim one of the coveted redraw spots.  He wasted no time getting to work, leaping into 4th by the end of the first circuit and charging into 3rd by the time the field completed lap three.  He held on to that spot to the finish to give himself and his team a guaranteed top-nine starting spot for the season’s first 20-lap A-main at the Pigeon Hills oval.

Once again, a little good fortune in the redraw put Hartlaub on the front row for the feature.  It would not be ‘a gimme’ as they say.  The likes of Herr, Hammaker, Ely, Fletcher and Owings would be all around him.

Hartlaub got a good start at the drop of the green but settled in behind veteran Frankie Herr until his found his rhythm.  Hartlaub used a strong launch off turn four to dive under Herr going into turn one to begin lap four.  He slid up in front of the No.70D and began to pull away.

Hartlaub diced his way through traffic, survived a restart and held his advantage throughout the 20-lap event, besting Herr by 2.039 seconds at the finish.

It was Hartlaub’s second career victory, both of which have come at Lincoln Speedway.  It is always special to win, and it was certainly a great way to kick off the season at the track, but for Hartlaub the best part of the memory will surely be having his daughter, just shy of three months old, in victory lane with him for the first time.

When I get out front like that, I just try to calm myself down, hit my marks and be smooth.  It’s too easy to blow a corner, especially in lapped traffic.  I was getting through traffic pretty good early tonight and I didn’t want to see that yellow because I felt like I was putting cars between me and Frankie (Herr).“, Hartlaub commented.

Confidence is huge.  I felt like after our run Friday, there was no reason I couldn’t compete for the win again tonight.”

Up Next

Kody Hartlaub Racing will return to Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night, April 15th to go after his second consecutive checkered flag!

Season Stats

3 races, 1 wins, 2 top 5’s, 2 top 10’s, 2 top 15’s

Trivia Question

Kody Hartlaub picked up his first career 358 sprint car victory at Lincoln Speedway in 2021!

Now, on to this week’s question.  In what year did Kody Hartlaub win the Williams Grove Speedway Rookie of the Year award in the 358 sprint car division?

The answer in the next press release!

Cappetta Kicks-off 2023 Season at Lincoln Speedway

Team Getting Back in the Swing of Things in Season Debut

Abbottstown, PA – April 11, 2023

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Ashley Cappetta and her team made their season debut at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday and despite some challenges they were able to take the care home in one piece and are looking to get back to the track to improve.

  • Date:  April 8, 2023
  • Event:  Hanover Concrete Night
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 5th (2), A-main 17th (14)

Season Opener Proves Challenging

Ashley Cappetta and the Gettysburg Trading Post, Mike’s Towing and Recovery, Yesteryear Antique Center, Stoner’s Auction, O’Brien’s Fuel and Service, Iron Horse Trains, Republican Club of Hanover No. 89 made the short trip to Lincoln Speedway on Saturday to kick off another season in the 358 sprint car division.

Cappetta started off the night with drawing the 8 pill which put her on the outside of the front row for the start of her first heat race of the season. Cappetta and her team did not have the opportunity to practice prior to the season opener as in year’s past so Saturday was a chance for the team to get back into rhythm and the night started off with a little bit of a stumble in hot laps, “I felt the entry speed was not good.” Cappetta’s heat race started with a misstep when the right rear of another car got into her left front, “Things happen so fast in the heat races. Thankful to at least hang onto fifth considering the situation could have been a lot worse.”

Assessment of Opening Night

Cappetta and the team continued to work on the car but the corner speed continued to be an issue, “Felt like the feature start wasn’t good and the corner speed wasn’t great. The car felt loose which is not my type of car. Definitely felt like the car got worse as the race went on.” Ashley lined up 14th for the feature start and would cross the line 17th after 20 laps.

Despite it being Cappetta’s first race of the season a good portion of the field had already started their season, “Most of the guys there already had two races under their belt. When we can go into the box in one piece at the end of the night we take that blessing and look ahead to do better next week.”

With one race under their belt Ashley and the team are looking to come back stronger, “Saturday I feel like I could have done a lot better than what we showed. The team was getting back into the groove and everyone was out of rhythm, as a team it’s important to be on top of our game together. We’ll take last weeks’ race, look at notes and video and see what we can do better.”

Once the car was back at the shop the team did find some damage to the car that likely contributed to the struggles Cappetta had with the car during the feature.

Season Plans

When looking ahead to the 2023 season the goal is pretty simple for Cappetta, “We want to do better than last year.” Ashley struggled drawing good pills to start of the night and on top of that there were a struggles and hardships outside the track, “I can’t let that stuff consume me and I need to stop letting bad nights get me down.” Cappetta is also looking to get out of her comfort zone with trips planned to new tracks in 2023 including Big Diamond.

Stay tuned to Cappetta’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.

Cappetta will return to Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, April 15 at 6pm.

Kyle Reinhardt Earns Pair of Top Ten’s at Grove and Port

Friday, Sunday Trips to Williams Grove and BAPS Motor Speedway on Tap

Port Royal, PA – April 11, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Luke Ritz Photography & Videography

Kyle Reinhardt seems to have his program headed in the right direction in the early going of the 2023 season.  He has turned in steady performances over the past month at an array of Central Pennsylvania tracks.

A few weeks ago, he put his team into the World of Outlaws show at Lincoln Speedway, then followed it up with a top five finish at BAPS Motor Speedway.  His latest accomplishment is a pair of top-ten finishes at Williams Grove Speedway and Port Royal Speedway over the weekend.

It’s definitely a positive sign for a team that is working hard to rebuild.

  • Date:  April 7, 2023
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  30 cars, Qualifying 5th in Group 3, Heat 3rd (5), A-main 9th (9)

  • Date:  April 8, 2023
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  27 cars, Heat 1st (1), A-main 8th (3)

Grove Opener

Williams Grove Speedway finally opened their 2023 season Friday night after several weeks of cancellations due to weather.  The combination of a time trial qualifying format (timed hot laps) and the mandated use of the new Hoosier tires for the night, created a level and attractive ‘playing field’ for competitors.

Reinhardt kicked off his night with a qualifying lap that was good enough for 5th quickest in group 3, placing him 5th on the starting grid for heat race number three.

The Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Henry’s Wrecker No.91 looked strong as he maneuvered his way to a 3rd place finish in the 8-lap qualifier.

In the 25-lap A-main, Reinhardt rolled to the green inside the 5th row.  He was consistent during the main event, remaining inside the back half of the top ten throughout.  He held that ground for a 9th place finish.

Back to the Speed Palace

Reinhardt made his second trip of the young season to Port Royal Speedway.  One month earlier he had logged a 13th place finish on a surface that has been the source of frustration for the Neptune City, NJ native over the past couple seasons.

After a good pill draw put Reinhardt on the pole of the third heat race, he went to work to make sure he made the most of the opportunity.  Racing the high line around the top of The Speed Palace, Reinhardt kept Austin Bishop and Zeb Wise at bay to claim the win by a one second margin.

The heat race effort, combined with a zero car invert draw, put Reinhardt inside row two for the 25-lap A-main.  Kyle raced inside the top five past the halfway point, surviving a series of close battles.  In the closing laps he slipped a few spots and closed out the night with an 8th place finish.

Overall, I think we are making good progress.  We made a few mistakes with the new tire.  We just need to keep on it and keep moving forward.“, Reinhardt commented.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2023 season.

Kyle can be contacted via [email protected].

Up Next

Kyle and the Capitol Renegade team will compete two times over the upcoming weekend.

They will kick off the weekend at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, April 14th.  The next stop will be a return to BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday night, April 16th, where he recorded a top five finish and took home the Hard Charger award just a few weeks ago.

Season Stats

6 races, 0 wins, 1 top 5’s, 3 top 10’s, 4 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to the previous trivia question is Kyle Reinhardt competed in the 305 sprint car division on a regular basis!

Now, on to this week’s question.  How many career 305 sprint car wins does Kyle Reinhardt have at New Egypt Speedway in NJ?

The answer in the next press release!

Berry Endures More Issues, Rebounds Late at The Speed Palace

ABR Looking to Return to Form Saturday at Port Royal

Port Royal Speedway, PA – April 11, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

After opening the season with a top ten run, Austin Berry suffered mechanical issues in his second outing, taking away another likely top ten.

The team returned to Port Royal Speedway Saturday night with that issue behind them and ready to take on a stout field of 43 super late models.

  • Date:  April 8, 2023
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  43 cars, Heat DNS (3), B-main 11th (22)

The Scramble

Sure, it was Easter weekend at Port Royal Speedway, but the candy scattered on the infield grass wasn’t the only thing that caused a scramble.

After discovering their powerplant wasn’t running at full steam during hot laps, Austin Berry Racing was thrust into an early scramble to diagnose the issue.  With a quick repair in place, Berry lined up inside row two and attempted to take the green for his heat race.  It wasn’t to be and Berry took his still ailing machine pit-side just before the green flag dropped.

A short time later is when the second scramble began for ABR.  The team determined what part they would need to resolve the issue permanently but they were unable to locate the proper part anywhere in the pits.

Teams often help each other generously, but in this particular case, nobody had what Berry needed.  That sent team members to the race shop fifteen minutes away, and then to local businesses in search of the $20 part.  Their adventure took them over 20 miles from the track to locate what they needed.

The part was found in the nick of time, delivered to the pit area and installed in The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, A&C Racing Engines, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis No.86 just in time to make the grid for the B-main.

Berry knew it would be highly unlikely he could race his way to a top four transfer spot from his 24th starting spot.  At this point, the primary goal was simply to prove the issue was resolved, make some laps and learn how his car was responding to the team’s setup choices.  Track time is never wasted.

While they didn’t make the show, Berry and his team were able to at least breathe a sigh of relief at the end of the night.  He raced all 12 laps without issue and advanced 13 positions to an 11th place finish in the B-main.  It was a positive (of sorts) to end the night on.

I don’t know when we are gonna catch a break.”, a clearly upset Berry said.  “These guys we compete against here (at Port Royal) are a step ahead of us now, so we just have to go to work even harder to catch up.

Up Next

Berry will return to Port Royal Speedway Saturday night, April 15th.  The entire ABR team will be looking to break this short streak of bad luck and get back to running up front.

Season Stats

3 races, 0 wins, 0 top 5’s, 1 top 10’s, 1 top 15’s

Feathers Struggles To Find Combination at Port Royal

Larry Royston Racing Team Set to Tackle Georgetown and Port Royal This Week

Port Royal, PA – April 11, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

After a top five run the week before, Trever Feathers was looking to fine tune his Barry Wright Race Car and take the next step forward, but instead found himself struggling to find the right combination at Port Royal Speedway.

As is often the case with dirt racing, the surface was a little different than the week before, plus Feathers was trying things to make his program better.  That’s where the night started and it left Feathers chasing the right solution all night.

  • Date:  April 8, 2023
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  43 cars, Heat 6th (5), B-main 2nd (4), A-main 24th (22)

The Battle

With a large field of 43 super late models on hand, only the top five finishers in each of the four heat races would transfer directly to the feature event, leaving the balance of the field to duke it out in a B-main for the final four spots in the main event’s starting lineup.

Feathers drew the 5th starting spot in the final heat race of the evening and kept himself above the cut line past the halfway point of the race, but the Winchester, VA driver slipped out of a transfer spot with a few laps remaining and was unable to recover.

The changes Feathers made to the Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, Clem’s Garage, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Bilstein Shocks, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Bo Feathers Racing, Barry Wright Race Cars, No.20 in preparation for the 12-lap B-main certainly seemed to help, at least a little.  After starting 4th, Feathers raced to a runner-up finish to put his team in the show.

That was about the only positive note from the night though.  In the 25-lap A-main, Feather found himself wrestling an ill-handling ride early in the going and made the decision to save his equipment for another battle.  He parked his machine after five laps and was credited with finishing 24th officially.

We weren’t good.  That’s it.  I would like to forget about this one get to the next race.“, a frustrated and honest Feathers said.

Up Next

Trever and the Larry Royston Racing team will be headed to Georgetown Speedway Thursday, April 13th for the $3,000-to-win Mark ‘Coot’ Williams Memorial Super Late Model “Shakedown”.  If you can’t make it out to Georgetown, DE, tune into FloRacing.com at 6:30pm!

The team will then return to Port Royal Speedway Saturday night, April 15th for their $4,000-to-win show, which will include an Australian Pursuit race for the super late models.

Season Stats

3 races, 0 wins, 1 top 5’s, 1 top 10’s, 2 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to our last trivia question is Trever  won seven super late model races during the 2017 season!

Now, on to this week’s question.  In what year AND at what track did Trever Feathers win his first super late model race?

Austin Berry Will Honor Grandfather and Raise Pancreatic Cancer Awareness

After Fast Start, Mechanical Issues Sidelined Team at Port Royal Speedway

Port Royal, PA – April 4, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

As is well-documented, Austin Berry has been building his super late model program steadily in recent years and is showing signs of being a weekly threat in the Pennsylvania region.

That said, the biggest goal for Austin Berry in 2023 is honoring is grandfather through his ‘Racing For Time’ campaign.  Berry hopes that by raising awareness he will be able to save at least one family from going through what his family did.

  • Date:  4/1/23
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  31 cars, Qualifying 1st in Group A, Heat 5th (4), A-main 20th (13)

Saturday Summary

This week Berry was at nearby Port Royal Speedway for their weekly $4,000 to win show.  A stout field of 31 cars was pit-side for the second show of the 2023 season.

Berry topped the entire field in time trials with a lap of 21.225 in The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, A&C Racing Engines, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis No.86.

The format inverted the top four in each group to set the heat race lineups.  From his 4th starting spot in the first heat race of the afternoon, Berry was unable to gain any track position and ultimately settled for a 5th place finish.

Berry started 13th in the 25-lap A-main and was looking to battle his way into the top ten and put a solid recovery in the book, but it wasn’t to be.  Just after completing lap six, Berry was forced to retire from the race with mechanical issues.

It’s frustrating.  We had a great car early today but didn’t quite hit the setup for heat race and that cost us.  We’ll get it back to the shop and diagnose the issue.  We’ll be back next week and go after it again.“, a dejected but determined Berry said.

Fun Stuff Coming Up

Throughout the 2023 season, as part of Berry’s Pancreatic Cancer Awareness campaign called ‘Racing For Time’, fans will be able to honor loved ones, win prizes and purchase merchandise.  All of those things will combine to raise awareness and funds to be donated to PanCan.org at the end of the season.

Berry carries out the ‘Racing For Time’ campaign every five years, running a purple scheme on his racecar, educating fans about the terrible disease and racing funds to help research teams.  In 2018 Berry, his family and his team raised $5,560 for PanCan.org.

Berry will be selling decals of the purple ribbon that represents Pancreatic Cancer Awareness.  Each decal has a space where the purchasing fan can write a personal note in honor or memory of a loved one, a note of encouragement to others or whatever message they choose.  The decal will then be placed on the deck of Berry’s No.86 super late model where it will ride with him all season long.

I really want to cover every bit of black space on the car with these personal messages.  It would mean a lot to me to carry those messages.“, Berry said.

The team will also soon have unique Pancreatic Cancer awareness themed team apparel for sale at the track and on their website, AustinBerryRacing.com.

Here’s the coolest part of purchasing either a decal or apparel item.  Just as they did 5 years ago, the team removes the body panels at the end of the season and gives them away to lucky winners.  The purchase of a decal or 2023 apparel item will enter you in a drawing at the end of the season to win one of the body panels off Berry’s Pancreatic Cancer themed 2023 racecar!

In the near future the team is going to announce details of how to enter two additional raffle contests.  Berry’s custom made pair of Pancreatic Cancer themed driving gloves, as well as the themed tail banner from the racecar will be raffled off.  Two lucky fans will walk away with very unique souvenirs.  Both items are pictured below this story.

Follow Austin Berry Racing’s social media accounts (listed below) for updates on all the information about the team’s 2023 cancer campaign, as well as race dates and results.

Why Pancreatic Cancer?

Austin Berry’s grandfather, Jerry Bryner, was one of his biggest supporters in his early years of racing, coming to watch him cut his teeth on the local go-kart tracks.  If Jerry wasn’t able to attend the races, he was always sure to be at the shop on Sundays for wash day to hear about the races and watch the videos from that weekend.  Jerry lived on Main Street of Port Royal, PA and was always a big supporter of the speedway.  In fact, Jerry even drove the pace truck for several years at the Speed Palace.  In late March of 2008, Jerry was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.  He passed away a short 6 months later in September.  It seems hard to believe that this year will make 15 years since his passing.  Austin wants to pay tribute to one of his biggest fans, his grandfather, throughout the season at a place that he knows his pap would’ve loved to watch him race by conducting a campaign to raise awareness and money for Pancreatic Cancer.

It is our goal through this campaign to spread awareness of this uncommon and difficult to detect disease and to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan) to assist with identifying a means of early detection.

Pancreatic Cancer is difficult to detect in its early stages.  It is typically in an advanced stage by the time symptoms arise and lead to a diagnosis.  Research is needed to find a way to achieve early detection.  Patients need more time.  That’s why ABR is going “Racing for Time”.

Up Next

Berry will return to Port Royal Speedway Saturday night April 8th.  Racing begins at 6pm.

Merchandise will be available behind the grandstand beginning around 4pm Saturday.  The team has hats, beanies, stickers, koozies and other items available.  The new apparel will be available in 3 or 4 weeks.

Trever Feathers Notches Top Five at Port Royal

Winchester Wheelman Getting Comfortable in New Barry Wright Icon

Port Royal, PA – April 3, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Eventful is a kind word to use to describe Trever Feather’s trip from his shop in Winchester, VA to Port Royal Speedway Saturday morning.

Frustrating or stressful would probably be better words.

With ‘The Speed Palace’ moving up their start time to 1pm to beat the weather Saturday, Feathers and the Larry Royston Racing team were on the road early and in plenty of time, but a flat right front tire on their truck put them behind schedule and left them scrambling with only minutes to prepare when they finally arrived at the track.

Despite the chaos off the track, Feathers turned in a solid performance, which made the team’s ride home at the end of the day a little easier.

  • Date:  4/1/23
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  31 cars, Qualifying 3rd in Group B, Heat 1st (2), A-main 5th (4)

The Calm After the Storm

Fortunately for Feathers, the super late models were the last division to hit the track for hot laps, which also served as group time trials for the 31 super late models on hand.  That placement in the order of events allowed him to make the call for his qualifying session.

With virtually no time to look at the racing surface or make any adjustments, Feathers turned in the 3rd quickest lap in Group B and put himself on the front row of his heat race.

Just sitting down after qualifying helped everyone catch their breath.  That (qualifying) run showed that without even looking at the track, we knew we had a decent car.

The Racing Before the Rain

Feathers made the absolute most out of his 2nd starting spot in the second 8-lap heat race.  With the top two finishers guaranteed a spot in the redraw for a top six feature starting spot, he wasted no time mashing the gas and jumping out front.  He went on to cruise to a 3.3 second win over Mike Lupfer in the Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, Clem’s Garage, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Bilstein Shocks, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Bo Feathers Racing, Barry Wright Race Cars, No.20.

Rolling to the green for the 25-lap feature event from his spot outside row number two, Feathers again went right to work.  He laid claim to the 3rd spot and pressured Rick Eckert for the runner up spot over the opening six laps.

The first caution of the event appeared before the seventh circuit was complete.  The break in the action was somewhat lengthy and when racing did resume, the restart quickly told Feathers his tires had cooled down and were not quite the same.

Feathers slipped back to 5th in the running order on lap eight and was mired there for a large portion of the race, which included a couple more caution periods.  He was able to retake 4th at the white flag but Eckert fought back and relegated Feathers to 5th at the checkered flag.

That’s the most comfortable I have felt here in probably a couple years.“, Feathers shared.

The cautions killed me.  I wasn’t good on restarts.  It took the car a lap to get going, but it was really good on long runs.  If that race had gone non-stop, I think we were good enough to win it.  I’m pretty happy with where we are right now.  We are going the right direction and we have something to build on.

Shortly after the super late model feature, the limited late models efficiently put their feature event in the books.  Moments later, the rains came.  Feathers and his team had packed up and loaded for home just in the nick of time, putting the wraps on a hectic but good day.

A Word of Appreciation

Bo and Trever Feathers would like to thank a few people for their help and efforts to get the team back on the road to Port Royal Saturday morning.

Thanks to Brad Omps, Jimmy Richards, and most of all Dougie Timmons for finding us help.  Shout out to Trenton who swooped in and put a new tire on like he was working a pit stop at Daytona.“, said Bo.

Last but not least, thank you ‘Veno’ Travis Vance for having pit passes ready so we could get right to work. Thanks to all who did whatever they could to help.  We truly appreciate it.

Hartlaub Disappointed With Outcome but Made Big Gains at York Haven Oval

Lincoln Speedway’s 358 Opener Up Next for East Berlin (PA) Wheelman

York Haven, PA – March 29, 2023

Kody Hartlaub may have been disappointed with the outcome at BAPS Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon, but he was happy with the gains the team made the past week.

There were some notable changes to his program during the off-season, including the chassis and some key suspension components, so Hartlaub made a trip to BAPS on March 22nd for their Test and Tune night to shake it down.  It was a productive night that led to some changes at the shop, which ultimately put the team in a better position when they unloaded Sunday afternoon.

  • Date:  3/26/23
  • Event:  March Sprint Madness
  • Track:  BAPS Motor Speedway
  • City, State:   York Haven, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 7th (10), B-main 1st (1), A-main 24th (19)

Difficult Start

Hartlaub’s season opener seemed to pick up where 2022 left off, with an unfriendly pill draw.  He lined up 10th in the first of three heat races for the 29 cars on hand.  Only the top six finishers would transfer directly to the A-main.

Making the cut didn’t look like it would be a problem for Hartlaub.  He surged into 7th by the second circuit but his progress stalled there.

A bolt had come loose on the hydraulic cylinder mount, preventing Hartlaub from being able to adjust the car’s top wing from the cockpit.  It was essential to make adjustments on the difficult daytime surface, so the East Berlin driver was left unable to make his car handle the way he needed it to and missed the transfer by one spot.

Back On Track

The B-main would have to be Hartlaub’s path to the feature but maybe that wasn’t a bad thing.  Starting on the pole gave Hartlaub a chance to evaluate his car in clean air.  In the heat race, he was buried in traffic and wrestling a wing issue.

Hartlaub would not be challenged from his starting spot on the pole of the 8-lap last chance race.  He registered a 17.493 for his best lap of the event, which was quicker than any 358 sprint heat race winner’s best all afternoon.  He and his team had clearly made progress dialing in the Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, C.H. Folk & Son Feeds, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.95.

Taking the green in the 20-lap A-main from the 19th starting spot, Hartlaub found forward progress difficult as the track took rubber.  As the racing groove became narrower, Hartlaub navigated his way up to 14th by lap eleven.  At that point he made the decision to call it a day, pull in and save his equipment.  He was officially credited with a 24th place finish.

Overall I am happy with the gains we made since testing Wednesday.  When we unloaded it was a completely different package than what we showed up with to test.  Just came down to being one of those tough days at the track from pill draw, to having a mechanical issue, to the difficult track surface.”, Hartlaub commented.

“I’m happy that all of that is behind us now and we can move on to Lincoln this week and really see where we are at.

Up Next

Kody will kick off his 2023 Lincoln Speedway season at their 358 sprint car opener on April 1st, where he will be aiming to improve on his impressive 2022 season that led to a 2nd place finish in the track’s championship points.  Qualifying begins at 6pm Saturday evening.

Busy 2023

Hartlaub has put together a schedule that will keep him busy in 2023.  It consists of 35 total races, with 5 of them being in his 410 sprint car, and the balance in the 358 division.

Fans can check Hartlaub’s schedule, purchase merchandise and keep up with the latest news at KodyHartlaub.com.
