Ashley Cappetta and her team made their second start of the season at Lincoln Speedway and despite a 17th place finish, Cappetta and the team have a positive outlook heading into their next race.

  • Date:  May 6, 2023
  • Event:  National Fallen Firefighters “Guise-Little Memorial”
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  38 cars, Heat 6th [9], B-main 3rd [3]; A-main 17th [23]

Second Race of the Season Builds Team Confidence

Ashley Cappetta and the Gettysburg Trading Post, Mike’s Towing and Recovery, Yesteryear Antique Center, Stoner’s Auction, O’Brien’s Fuel and Service, Iron Horse Trains, Republican Club of Hanover No. 89 were finally back in action on Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway after a rainy month of April.

Cappetta, in sticking to her goals for the season, did not let a bad pill draw put a damper on her night. Ashley lined up ninth for her heat race and got a good initial start. Unfortunately, the red came out which resulted in Cappetta lining up on the outside for the restart, “Coming out of 4 I ended up in the air. It happened so fast I didn’t even realize what happened. I didn’t have much of an option other than staying on the gas to get back on all four tires.” Cappetta would continue on to finish sixth in the heat, one spot shy of qualifying for the feature. Ashley started and finished third in the B-main putting her in the main event. Cappetta lined up 23rd for the 20-lap feature and would cross the line 17th.

Despite Results Cappetta has Positive Take-away from Saturday

“The car felt great all night. We had speed this weekend,” according to Cappetta. The improvements were likely somewhat due to fixing the issues they found with the car after the season opener. Ashley continued, “All in all if we had been able to start up front, we would have been able to finish up front. I actually had fun. Of course, I don’t love finishing in the back but it gave me confidence. It gave everyone on the team a confidence booster.”

Fallen Firefighters Night Holds a Special Place in Cappetta’s Heart

Ashley’s Uncle Jim used to be a firefighter and up until his surgery last year he was still involved with the fire police, and service men and women hold a special place in her heart, “This race is important to me because these people put their life on the line for people they don’t know.” The first year they held the National Fallen Firefighters race Ashley ran a special car design to honor fallen firefighters and the rest is history as she has put something special on the car for every iteration of this race. Through the years Ashley has become friends with the Little and Guise families and actually pursued being a volunteer firefighter with United Hook and Ladder herself. In the end, racing and her thriving business kept her from completing her training. “I love how they get the drivers and fans together; it makes the race even more special and I can’t wait to see it grow in the future.”

Stay tuned to Cappetta’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.

Zach Newlin Collects 358 Sprint Hard Charger at Williams Grove

Team Will Return to Williams Grove May 19

Mechanicsburg, PA – May 9, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Zach Newlin and the Mansberger Motorsports 358 sprint car team have been battling through a very tough stretch that spans back into their 2022 season.

Despite having good equipment, a knowledgeable crew and a driver that knows how to win races, they have faced a number of unusual and unlucky challenges.  It’s not an uncommon story in sprint car racing but that doesn’t make it any easier to overcome.

  • Date:  5/5/23
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  31 cars, Heat 6th (9), A-main 11th (16)

A Little Luck Please

When Newlin signed in and drew his pill Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, he had to be thinking ‘here we go again’.  His draw put him 9th on the starting grid for his heat race.  While a top six transfer spot was probably within reach, a top four redraw spot seemed pretty far-fetched against the level of competition that signs in at ‘The Grove’.

With his work clearly cut out for him, Newlin didn’t waste a moment getting to work in his heat race, charging into 7th on the opening lap and to 6th by lap four.  Climbing further was a tall task in the night’s opening 8-lap heat race on a still somewhat narrow racing groove.  He settled for the 6th place finish and a transfer in the Manchester Hydraulics, Marlow’s Metal Fabrication, Safety Kleen, Lee Chassis Repair & Components, Will’s Lawncare, Mansberger Motorsports No.21m.

Charging Hard

Newlin started the 20-lap A-main deep in the field in 16th.  Once again, the Millerstown, PA driver got right to business, climbing two spots on the opening lap.

‘Zach Daddy’ as he has been nicknamed over the years, temporarily slipped back to 15th for a few circuits but reclaimed 14th by lap seven.

Newlin continued his forward progress, closing the next gap and taking over the 13th spot on lap eleven.  The No.21m was clearly coming to him and getting faster.  The two cars in front of Newlin raced side by side, stranding the faster Newlin behind them for a few laps and stalling his progress as the laps clicked off.

Finally, on lap nineteen Newlin wrestled the 12th spot away and then went after the No.6 of Cody Phillips.  Newlin took 11th away from Phillips on the final circuit to end up 11th, plus five on the night.

The effort was enough to earn Newlin the Hard Charger award for the night.

Man, it felt like we passed twice that many cars tonight.  The racing was so close.  Felt like everyone was so even.“, a worn out but happy Newlin said.

We had a great car in the second half of the race tonight.  I was turning laps as fast as the front runners, we were just buried too deep.  That’s the best I have felt this season.  I think we have found some balance that we can build on.”

Up Next

Zach Daddy and the Mansberger Motorsports team will return to Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, May 19th.

Trivia Question

The answer to our last trivia question is Zach Newlin started his racing career in go-karts in 1998!

Now, on to this week’s question!  During his 305 sprint car years, how many times did Zach Newlin win the BAPS Motor Speedway track championship?

Reinhardt Demonstrates Team’s Progress With Another Pair of Top Tens

Three Rounds with World of Outlaws on Deck

Abbottstown, PA – May 9, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Reinhardt started showing improved performance late in the 2022 season.  Now, a dozen starts into the 2023 season, he has proven it was no fluke.  The changes he made to his program and the decisions he is making each week have the Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Henry’s Wrecker No.91 running at the front of the field on a weekly basis.

Reinhardt stated during the offseason last winter that his team would be rebuilding, and they would need to make the most of their available resources.  They certainly have done both very well over the first two months of the season.

The team continues to seek another key partner to come on board and help them take the program to the next level.  Reinhardt has certainly demonstrated he deserves consideration from potential suitors.

  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  30 cars, Qualifying 5th, Heat 1st (1), A-main 10th (6)

Tune-Up Part 1

With the Morgan Cup, the annual Spring battle between the PA Posse and the World of Outlaws on the horizon, Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway served as the last chance for teams to build their notebook and prepare their gameplan.

In three starts at ‘The Grove’ this season, Kyle Reinhardt has a pair of top five finishes and has not finished worse than 9th.  On Friday night he was just a little off, placing him 12th quickest of the 25 cars on hand.

Reinhardt was able to convert his 4th starting spot in his heat race into a 3rd place finish.  The run provided him with a starting spot just inside the top ten for the night’s finale, with a chance to earn another top five finish.

It wasn’t to be.  While Reinhardt did score yet another top ten finish, it wasn’t satisfying for the Neptune City, NJ native.

Tune-Up Part 2

Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway also served as a final preparation opportunity for teams at the Abbottstown, PA facility before the upcoming Gettysburg Clash with the World of Outlaws.

Reinhardt was among the thirty teams who opted to take advantage of that opportunity.  He started off his night with a strong qualifying run, timing 5th best in the field of thirty.

The time trial run put Reinhardt on the pole for his heat race and he didn’t miss a beat.  He raced out to an early lead and stayed there, winning with a 1.6 second advantage over the runner-up.

Reinhardt started the 35-lap A-main outside the third row after pulling the six pill in the redraw.  Instead of finding his way forward into the top five, he found himself slipping back a couple spots.  He ultimately settled into the 10th spot on lap eleven and that is where he was mired through the checkered flag.

I’m disappointed in our weekend to be honest.  We were just off all night last night at Williams Grove.  We were really good here tonight (at Lincoln) but then I was just too free in the feature, so we didn’t get the result either night that we’re capable of.“, Reinhardt said.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2023 season.

Kyle can be contacted via [email protected].

Up Next

Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team will do battle with the World of Outlaws three times in four days in Central Pennsylvania.

First up will be the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway Wednesday night, May 10th.

That will be followed by the traditional two-day Spring battle between the Outlaws and the PA Posse, the Morgan Cup, which will take place at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday and Saturday nights, May 12th and 13th.

Season Stats

12 races, 0 wins, 3 top 5’s, 9 top 10’s, 10 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to last week’s question is Kyle’s favorite hobby away from the racetrack is mountain biking!

Now, on to this week’s question.  At what track did Kyle Reinhardt claim his first All Star Circuit of Champions victory?

The answer in the next press release!

Halligan on the Podium at Port Royal to Back Up Top-5 at Grove

Clash with the Outlaws Set for Wednesday at Lincoln

Port Royal, PA – May 8, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Jeff Halligan has been fast this year but yet has had an up and down first two months of his 2023 season in the Risser Motorsports, TheTreeCenter.com, Victory Auto of Lewistown, EMM Sales & Service, Jake’s Golf Carts, Pine Hill Trailers, Keystone Ag Spraying No.45.

After coming out of the gate with two quick top five finishes, the team went through a two week stretch where they couldn’t crack the top ten.  That is history now.  Over the past two weeks they have found their groove again, maybe even a better groove than before.

  • Date:  5/5/23
  • Event:  Outlaw Tune-Up

  • Date:  5/6/23
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  32 cars, Heat 2nd (8),  A-main 3rd (4)

Quick Time!

Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway was all about final preparation for the upcoming heavyweight bout with the World of Outlaws.  Even the format was identical to what teams will experience when the touring series arrives.

Halligan served notice early he was as ready as he could be when he went out 16th of 25 cars and promptly ripped the fastest lap of the night, earning his first career fast time award.

The Ephrata, PA driver went on to claim the runner up spot in his heat race, earning a spot in the Dash that would set the top six starting spots in the main event.  Halligan started 4th in the Dash by virtue of a random pill draw and he was able to move forward for a 3rd place finish.

From his starting spot inside row two, Halligan settled into the 4th position early on in the 25-lap feature and held a firm grasp on the spot until a mid-race incident slowed the field.

Taking advantage of the lap 13 restart, Halligan claimed the 3rd spot hoping to make a second half run to the front.  It never materialized and he ended the night with a 4th place finish.

Powering Forward

It was a similar story Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway.  Halligan turned heads early by blasting from his 8th starting spot in the second heat race to the 2nd spot by lap four without the aid of a caution.  He nearly tracked down race-long leader Ryan Smith but finished 2nd just 0.3 seconds behind.

The heat race charge put Halligan into a handicapped starting spot for the feature event.  He took the green for the 25-lap A-main from outside the second row.

Halligan slipped one position on the opening lap but then surged forward to claim the 3rd spot by the end of the second circuit.  The battle among positions three through six was close and intense.

By the end of the third trip around the big fairgrounds half-mile, Halligan found himself 6th.  He held that spot for the next ten laps, finding his rhythm and letting the car and track come to him.

On lap sixteen business really started to pick up as Halligan reeled in the 4th spot, then turned his fastest lap of the race the next time around.  He continued to get quicker, wrestling the 3rd spot away from Steve Buckwalter on lap 22.  He held on to record his first podium finish of the season at ‘The Speed Palace’.

I think we have a good overall balance right now. Our team can now focus on fine tuning the car and I can focus on fine tuning my driving.”, Halligan shared.

The stats back up Halligan’s words.  The team has clicked off three straight finishes of 6th or better, not to mention the fast time award at Williams Grove.

Our team is looking forward to racing against the top teams in the country & PA this week and looking forward to getting into a groove running more races.“, Halligan commented.

Up Next

Jeff and the Risser Motorsports team will roll into Lincoln Speedway Wednesday night, May 10th to take on the World of Outlaws in the Gettysburg Clash.

Current plans are for the team to also compete in the Morgan Cup against the World of Outlaws on Saturday night, May 14th at Williams Grove Speedway.

Season Stats

10 races, 0 wins, 4 top 5’s, 5 top 10’s, 8 top 15’s

Trivia Question

In what year AND at what track did Jeff Halligan capture his first 410 sprint car win?

Cappetta Celebrates 11 Years Of Racing, Reflects on Career

With Over a Decade Under Her Belt Cappetta Reflects on Her Racing Career

Abbottstown, PA – April 26, 2023

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Feature Photo:  Ashley Cappetta in victory lane in 2019 celebrating her first victory at Lincoln Speedway!

Ashley Cappetta started building her first race car at the age of 17 and competed for the first time as an 18 year old at Trail-Way Speedway. Her engine builder convinced her to go to Trail-Way and tag the rear of the field instead of doing more practice sessions and with the focus at the start of her career being aimed at learning more than performance, starting in the back helped with the learning process. Cappetta opted to start in the rear for about 75% of her first season and would pull in after getting lapped as a respectful move for the other drivers. Once veteran drivers like Jeff Rohrbaugh and Tim McClelland gave her the okay to start up front, she made the transition to lining up with the field.

Some Things Change and Some Things Stay the Same

There have been a lot of changes in sprint car racing since Cappetta embarked on her career in the sport, with one change at the top of the list, “Cost has definitely changed drastically.” Cappetta recalls rear tires costing $199 11 years ago and now they are over $300, just as one example of the change. Another change Ashley has noticed is the atmosphere, “It used to be more fun and friendly, maybe it’s the cost that has caused the atmosphere to change but the car wash used to be a fun place to hang out after the races and now it’s more of a business atmosphere, so it’s not as fun.” Technology has also evolved over the years. Now streaming is the preferred way to watch and rewatch races but at the start of her career everything was on DVDs.

As much as things change there are always things that stay the same, “I’ve always had passionate fans that are there for me no matter where I finish and what happens.” Cappetta’s crew has also been a steady force throughout her career. And one thing that will never change is her commitment to giving back to the racing community.

Looking Ahead

When looking 11 years into the future, Cappetta doesn’t have a clear view in her crystal ball, “I don’t know if I’ll be racing 11 years from now.” One of the biggest deciding factors on how much she’ll be racing in the future is her antique and collectibles business. Ashely started her business at 17 to fund her race team and it keeps growing. She is going for her auctioneer license soon and that along with her growing business will help dictate the future of her racing career.

Cappetta isn’t alone in some of her concerns for the sport as a whole when looking 11 years ahead, “Cost and involvement from the younger generation will play a big roll in what happens with racing in the future.” Ashely has concerns that tire costs could potentially play a factor in keeping some of the lower budget teams out of the picture. She also emphasized the importance of getting young fans to the track to ensure the sport has a fan base moving forward.

Reflection

“I was horrified when I first got started. There were so many doubters that said I would never win a race and never make it,” Cappetta reflected on how she felt at the start of her career. She had no racing experience when most of the other competitors had raced something before jumping into the 358 sprint car division. Now Cappetta can look back at the highlights of her 11 year career which include two very special Lincoln Speedway wins. “Your first win is always special, but my first win came on August 10 which is Pat Sterner, a long time supporter’s, birthday. It is also the day that the mother of Destiny Eckenrode, a young fan of mine who had passed away, got married.” Ashley’s second came at the 2021 Weldon Sterner Memorial which was special because of her relationship with Pat Sterner. In addition to her wins, Cappetta’s first podium finish happened at a Brandon Little Memorial race.

Throughout her career Ashley has had some impressive role models to look up to, with the first on her list being the late Greg Hodnett followed by Stevie Smith. Both Hall of Fame drivers spent quite a bit of time racing in Central PA and had an impact on Cappetta’s career. Ashley’s Uncle Rob, an engine builder, and Brad Sweet, the driver that her Uncle builds engines for, have also played an important role in getting Ashely to where she is today. Jeff Rohrbaugh, a veteran of the 358 sprint car division, helped Ashely at the beginning of her career and she credits him with teaching her how to run the bottom.

When asked what advice do you wish you could go back and give yourself before your first race 11 years ago Ashley had two important things she would share with her younger self, “First, don’t let people get under your skin and second, start your racing career sooner and in a different division.”

Stay tuned to Cappetta’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.

Cappetta will return to Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, April 29 at 6pm.

Reinhardt’s Consistent Speed Runs Streak of Top-10’s to Seven

Spring Thaw at Port Royal Speedway, Plus a Stop at BAPS Motor Speedway on Tap

Selinsgrove, PA – April 26, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Over the weekend, Kyle Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team put another solid pair of outings in Central Pennsylvania, continuing to show they are on the doorstep of bigger things.

Their top five at Williams Grove Speedway in the Tommy Hinnershitz Classic and top ten at Selinsgrove Speedway takes their current streak to seven consecutive top ten finishes.  That streak includes three top five finishes for the Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Henry’s Wrecker No.91.

  • Date:  April 22, 2023
  • Event:  Tommy Hinnershitz Classic
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Quick Stats:  28 cars, Qualifying 7th, Heat 1st (2), A-main 5th (3)

  • Date:  April 24, 2023
  • Track:  Selinsgrove Speedway
  • City, State:   Selinsgrove, PA
  • Quick Stats:  25 cars, Qualifying 7th, Heat 3rd (2), A-main 10th (9)

In the Thick of the Battle

Reinhardt put together a solid night from beginning to end at Williams Grove Speedway Friday night.  He kicked off the night by qualifying 7th quickest overall, then proceeded to back it up with a convincing heat race run, powering by Dylan Cisney for the win.

The Neptune City, NJ native took the green for the 30-lap Tommy Hinnershitz Classic from inside the second row.  Reinhardt was in the thick of the battle throughout the event, holding down the 3rd and 4th positions over the course of the race.

A late restart led Reinhardt into a heated battle with Danny Dietrich for the 3rd spot.  After trading numerous sliders and cross-overs with Dietrich, he had to check up entering turn three when the pair went for the same piece of real estate at the same time.  It was just enough for Lance Dewease to slip by and relegate Reinhardt to a 5th place finish.

That was another solid run for us and we did it against tougher competition.  We need to keep building on that.“, Reinhardt said.

Saturday’s planned event at Port Royal Speedway was cancelled due to heavy rains, giving the team a rare Saturday off.  The $10,000 to win Spring Thaw at ‘The Speed Palace’ has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 29th.

One Adjustment Away

Sunday afternoon Reinhardt rolled into Selinsgrove Speedway feeling optimistic.  Not only has his team’s speed and performance been consistent recently, this has been one of his favorite places to race over the years.  His stats there gave him good reason to feel good about his chances.

Reinhardt clocked in 7th fastest in the field, starting his day off just like he did on Friday.  Unlike Friday, he wasn’t able to convert that into a heat race win to put himself in the redraw.  He held down the runner up spot throughout the heat until Anthony Macri slipped by on the final circuit, handing him a 3rd place finish.

From his 9th starting spot in the A-main, Reinhardt fought hard for forward progress.  He was able to keep himself inside the top ten throughout the 25-lap race but could never mount a charge toward the front.  In the end, he crossed the line with a 10th place finish.

I’m a little disappointed with our run tonight to be honest.  We were just a little off all day.  I wasn’t expecting the top to come in so good in the feature, so we missed the setup a little bit.“, Reinhardt commented.

Up Next

Saturday, April 29th, Kyle and the Capitol Renegade team will compete in The Spring Thaw at Port Royal Speedway, taking their shot at the $10,000 winner’s share.

Sunday the team will head to BAPS Motor Speedway where the winner is guaranteed $5,500 but could walk away with as much as $7,500!

Trivia Question

We need to apologize because further research revealed last week’s trivia question was no longer valid, so we will move right on to this week’s question.

Let’s step away from racing for this week’s question.  What is Kyle’s favorite hobby away from the track?

Reinhardt Delivers Top 5 at Grove and 6th at BAPS

First 3-Race Weekend of 2023 Coming Up This Weekend

York Haven, PA – April 19, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Reinhardt continues to show consistency no matter where he goes around central Pennsylvania.  He delivered two more solid runs well inside the top ten over the weekend.

Reinhardt has not finished outside of the top ten since the March 18th World of Outlaws show at Lincoln Speedway.  If you only consider PA shows, he hasn’t been outside the top ten since March 5th.

The rebuilding process is on solid ground at this point and the team appears to be one step away from knocking off some podium finishes or grabbing a victory.

  • Quick Stats:  30 cars, Heat 4th (7), A-main 6th (11)

In the Groove at The Grove

Reinhardt got right down to business at the start of the weekend.  Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, from his starting spot outside the second row in his heat race, he moved into 3rd on the opening lap and charged into the runner up spot by lap two.  He held that to the checkered flag to put the Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Henry’s Wrecker No.91 into the redraw that would set the first five rows of the A-main lineup.

The results of Reinhardt’s redraw could have been better but his 7th starting spot wasn’t the worst possible result either.  Once again, he was able to make gains, pass cars and move forward.

Reinhardt was able to crack the top five late in the race and ultimately was credited with a 4th place finish.

I’m pretty pleased with where we are at.  We’ve had good speed here at Williams Grove.  We’ve been solid in heat races and able to pass cars.“, Reinhardt said.  “I missed my chance to get by Freddie (Rahmer) tonight but overall, I can’t complain.”

Never Stop Battling at BAPS

Sunday night at BAPS Motor Speedway started with a pill draw that put Reinhardt 7th on the starting grid in his heat race.  He needed to make the top six to transfer but the real goal was the redraw, which required a top four finish.

Reinhardt was up to the task, getting a quick start and blasting his way into a redraw spot on the opening lap.  He held on to 4th place throughout the 10-lap qualifying race to secure a shot at the redraw.

I knew a quick start would be key in that heat race.  Glad we could get it done.  It put us in a better spot for the rest of the night.“, Reinhardt said.

Sunday night’s main event at BAPS Motor Speedway was a non-stop array of tight battles and slide jobs, combined with a few cautions and a couple red flag periods.  In the midst of it all, Reinhardt fought his way from his 11th starting spot to a 6th place finish.

It was a +5 night that seemed to require Reinhardt to make three times that many passes to get there.  It was a dogfight from start to finish.

We are usually really good here, so I’m a little disappointed.  We didn’t get any help from our pill draws tonight though, so I guess all considered we had a pretty good night.  We passed  cars and ended up with a decent night.“, Reinhardt commented.  I was too free in the feature.  I was looking for a little more, a couple more spots.

It was a good weekend.  We have a good baseline.  We will keep working on it so we can take the next step and start knocking off some podiums and wins.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2023 season.

Kyle can be contacted via [email protected].

Up Next

Kyle and his team are looking forward to their first three-race weekend of the 2023 this weekend.

The Capitol Renegade gang will kick off their weekend at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, April 21st at the $8,000-to-win Tommy Hinnershitz Classic.

Saturday night Reinhardt will return to Port Royal Speedway for The Spring Thaw, which will award the winner with $10,000.

The weekend will wrap up Sunday night at Selinsgrove Speedway, one of Reinhardt’s favorite tracks, where $4,000 is on the line for the victor.  The Neptune City, NJ native has had a lot of success at the big Pennsylvania half mile in recent years, including numerous 360 sprint car wins, a 410 sprint car victory and track championships in both divisions.

Season Stats

8 races, 0 wins, 2 top 5’s, 5 top 10’s, 6 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to the previous trivia question is Kyle Reinhardt owns 7 career 305 sprint car victories at New Egypt Speedway in NJ.

Now, on to this week’s question.  Sticking with the topic of Reinhardt’s 305 sprint car background, at what speedway is he still to this day the all-time winningest driver in that open wheel division?

The answer in the next press release!

Kody Hartlaub Dominant in Lincoln Speedway 358 Sprint Victory

Second Career Win Comes on Heels of Friday Night Podium Finish at Williams Grove

Abbottstown, PA – April 12, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Info:  Kody Hartlaub, wife Audrey and daughter Addison in victory lane at Lincoln Speedway on 4/8/23

To say Kody Hartlaub is off to a strong start in Central Pennsylvania 358 sprint car competition might be a bit of an understatement.  He led 23 of the 40 feature laps he raced over the weekend, while recording a victory and a 3rd place finish in the span of 24 hours.

  • Date:  April 7, 2023
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway

  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 3rd (4), A-main 3rd (2)

  • Date:  April 8, 2023
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 3rd (6), A-main 1st (2)

Oh So Close at The Grove

Williams Grove Speedway was finally able to get their 2023 season underway Friday night and the 358 sprint cars were on the card.  Twenty-nine teams signed in and drew for their starting spot in one of three heat races.  The top six finishers from each would advance directly to the A-main, but the focus for drivers was to make the top four and claim a valuable spot in the redraw.

Hartlaub started 4th in the third and final heat race of the evening.  He simply needed to hang on to that spot, but the East Berlin (PA) driver was able to give himself a little cushion by making his way into the 3rd spot on lap three and holding on to it to the finish.

With twelve cars making the redraw, a driver can come away with a starting spot that is terrific or one that is going to be a challenge.  Hartlaub had some good fortune and drew the number two pill, putting him on the outside of the front row for the 20-lap main event.

The starting spot would certainly help, but nothing would be easy when the names around him included Locke, Fletcher, Owings, Hammaker and Herr.

Hartlaub got a solid start and held the runner-up spot for the first four laps before skillfully working his way past Chase Gutshall for the lead in his Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Hartlaub’s Furniture, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.95.

Kody held the top spot through lap nine until Cody Fletcher took advantage of an opportunity and raced by to claim the lead.  Hartlaub didn’t let the No.66a get away, remaining within striking distance.  He was unable to wrestle the spot away though and eventually was chased down by Derek Locke with two laps remaining.  Hartlaub held on for a spot on the podium in 3rd.

Being in contention at the grove is really cool.  That doesn’t happen every day.  If you can run up front here, you know you are doing pretty good.”, Hartlaub said.

We were honestly the slowest car at BAPS (Motor Speedway) during a test a few weeks ago.  We went back to the shop, did our homework and found some things.  The first race at BAPS rubbered up, so we didn’t really know what we had.  Tonight was our first true test of this new car, so it was nice to know we had speed and we are on the right path.

Success in the Pigeon Hills

The 358 sprint cars also made their first appearance of the season at Lincoln Speedway over the weekend with 29 teams rolling through the gates to compete.  Much like the night before at Williams Grove, the field drew for starting spots in one of three heat races and the top six finishers would transfer directly to the main event.  On this night, however, only the top three finishers would make the redraw.

Hartlaub’s pill draw placed him 6th on the starting grid for his heat race.  His work was cut out for him to claim one of the coveted redraw spots.  He wasted no time getting to work, leaping into 4th by the end of the first circuit and charging into 3rd by the time the field completed lap three.  He held on to that spot to the finish to give himself and his team a guaranteed top-nine starting spot for the season’s first 20-lap A-main at the Pigeon Hills oval.

Once again, a little good fortune in the redraw put Hartlaub on the front row for the feature.  It would not be ‘a gimme’ as they say.  The likes of Herr, Hammaker, Ely, Fletcher and Owings would be all around him.

Hartlaub got a good start at the drop of the green but settled in behind veteran Frankie Herr until his found his rhythm.  Hartlaub used a strong launch off turn four to dive under Herr going into turn one to begin lap four.  He slid up in front of the No.70D and began to pull away.

Hartlaub diced his way through traffic, survived a restart and held his advantage throughout the 20-lap event, besting Herr by 2.039 seconds at the finish.

It was Hartlaub’s second career victory, both of which have come at Lincoln Speedway.  It is always special to win, and it was certainly a great way to kick off the season at the track, but for Hartlaub the best part of the memory will surely be having his daughter, just shy of three months old, in victory lane with him for the first time.

When I get out front like that, I just try to calm myself down, hit my marks and be smooth.  It’s too easy to blow a corner, especially in lapped traffic.  I was getting through traffic pretty good early tonight and I didn’t want to see that yellow because I felt like I was putting cars between me and Frankie (Herr).“, Hartlaub commented.

Confidence is huge.  I felt like after our run Friday, there was no reason I couldn’t compete for the win again tonight.”

Team Getting Back in the Swing of Things in Season Debut

Abbottstown, PA – April 11, 2023

Ashley Cappetta and her team made their season debut at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday and despite some challenges they were able to take the care home in one piece and are looking to get back to the track to improve.

  • Date:  April 8, 2023
  • Event:  Hanover Concrete Night
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  29 cars, Heat 5th (2), A-main 17th (14)

Season Opener Proves Challenging

Ashley Cappetta and the Gettysburg Trading Post, Mike’s Towing and Recovery, Yesteryear Antique Center, Stoner’s Auction, O’Brien’s Fuel and Service, Iron Horse Trains, Republican Club of Hanover No. 89 made the short trip to Lincoln Speedway on Saturday to kick off another season in the 358 sprint car division.

Cappetta started off the night with drawing the 8 pill which put her on the outside of the front row for the start of her first heat race of the season. Cappetta and her team did not have the opportunity to practice prior to the season opener as in year’s past so Saturday was a chance for the team to get back into rhythm and the night started off with a little bit of a stumble in hot laps, “I felt the entry speed was not good.” Cappetta’s heat race started with a misstep when the right rear of another car got into her left front, “Things happen so fast in the heat races. Thankful to at least hang onto fifth considering the situation could have been a lot worse.”

Assessment of Opening Night

Cappetta and the team continued to work on the car but the corner speed continued to be an issue, “Felt like the feature start wasn’t good and the corner speed wasn’t great. The car felt loose which is not my type of car. Definitely felt like the car got worse as the race went on.” Ashley lined up 14th for the feature start and would cross the line 17th after 20 laps.

Despite it being Cappetta’s first race of the season a good portion of the field had already started their season, “Most of the guys there already had two races under their belt. When we can go into the box in one piece at the end of the night we take that blessing and look ahead to do better next week.”

With one race under their belt Ashley and the team are looking to come back stronger, “Saturday I feel like I could have done a lot better than what we showed. The team was getting back into the groove and everyone was out of rhythm, as a team it’s important to be on top of our game together. We’ll take last weeks’ race, look at notes and video and see what we can do better.”

Once the car was back at the shop the team did find some damage to the car that likely contributed to the struggles Cappetta had with the car during the feature.

Season Plans

When looking ahead to the 2023 season the goal is pretty simple for Cappetta, “We want to do better than last year.” Ashley struggled drawing good pills to start of the night and on top of that there were a struggles and hardships outside the track, “I can’t let that stuff consume me and I need to stop letting bad nights get me down.” Cappetta is also looking to get out of her comfort zone with trips planned to new tracks in 2023 including Big Diamond.

Stay tuned to Cappetta’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.
