Justin Henderson picked up a pair of top five finishes behind the wheel of the Mike Sandvig Motorsports No. 7 410 Sprint Car last weekend. Henderson finished fourth at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa on Saturday and fifth at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday.

Henderson also competed in two nights of racing behind the wheel of his family owned MAX Motorsports No. 83 360 Sprint Car where he finished seventh on Friday at Jackson Motorplex and 23rd at Knoxville as part of a Saturday night doubleheader.

“It wasn’t a bad weekend by any means and it shows we are consistent,” said Henderson. “In terms of our region of sprint car racing, we are a top car and we continue to knock off top fives on a regular basis.”

Henderson kicked off the weekend on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway where he qualified second quickest among 31 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 15.265 seconds. He then advanced three positions in a heat race to finish third and locked himself directly into the night’s A-main event.

“We’ve got a really good car to start the night at Knoxville and that’s something to be happy about,” he said. “I know I’m always saying it, but the beginning of the night can make or break you and luckily it’s been good to us at Knoxville.”

Starting from the inside-second row of the A-main event, Henderson fell back to fourth on the opening lap. Following a yellow flag with 16 laps remaining, Henderson inherited the third position and he remained in the spot for the next 10 laps. With five laps to go, Henderson got bottled up behind a lap car while engaged in a three-wide battle for the runner-up position. The bobble caused him to fall to fourth, where he’d take the checkered flag at the conclusion of the event.

“If not for the lapped car there when we caught second it was going to be a wild three-wide battle in the turn,” said Henderson.” It was a lot of fun out there and anytime you can go toe to toe with Brian Brown and the McCarl’s at Knoxville you know you have a good car. We just need to put 20 laps together and we’ll be talking about wins instead of top fives.”

The team next headed to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday, where Henderson qualified fifth quickest out of 25 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 11.137 seconds before advancing one position in a heat race to finish second. He earned a spot in the re-draw as a result and drew the No. 7 pill to claim an inside-fourth row starting spot for the feature.

In a race that went non-stop for 25 laps, Henderson was able to rally forward two positions to score a fifth-place finish. The top five was the team’s fifth in eight starts this season.

“It was really hard to pass as the track developed a lip early and was fast up top,” he said, “The bottom was ok early, but once it went away, we pretty much just had to ride around and hope for something to happen.”

Next up for Henderson and Sandvig will be a Memorial Day weekend tripleheader. They’ll start out at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, before joining the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday and Monday for two nights. Henderson sits third in the track point standings at Knoxville and first at Huset’s entering the weekend.

“I think we are in for a really good weekend and we get an extra show to make some good money,” said Henderson. “For me this sport is all about momentum and I think it’s time we start a nice little streak and pick up some wins.”

While the Memorial Day weekend brings about an extra night of racing and the opportunity to make some good money, Henderson is also grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the men and women who have and are serving our country.

“I’m really grateful for those who have given their lives to allow us to live freely as American citizens and there’s never enough chances to say thank you to them,” said Henderson.” Not only those who we have lost, but those still serving today. To serve and fight like that takes a different breed of person. I wouldn’t be talking about racing on the weekends without those men and women and hopefully we can grab a win in their honor.”

Kyle Reinhardt Highlights Wisconsin ASCoC Swing with Top 5 at Plymouth Dirt Track

Posts Strong Run Against the Outlaws in Home State of NJ

Sun Prairie, WI – May 26, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Rick Sweeten Images

A rare Tuesday night show in his home state of NJ gave Kyle Reinhardt an opportunity to race in his home state on May 17th before hitting the road to Wisconsin for his next round of events on the All Star tour on May 20-22.

Reinhardt posted strong runs throughout the week, including his first top five of the ASCoC season, but also experienced some tough luck that wrote an undesirable ending to a good night for the Capitol Renegade / Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers / Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants / J&J Auto Racing No.91.

May 17:  Bridgeport Motorsports Park / Swedesboro, NJ

      (WoO:  33 cars, Qualifying 19th, Heat 4th, A-main 11th)

A subpar time trial result can often put a race team in a hole they cannot climb out of.  When Kyle Reinhardt turned in the 19th quickest qualifying lap of the 33 cars on hand at Bridgeport Motorsports Park during the World of Outlaws event, he and the team kept their heads down and kept working to get better throughout the night.

The lap wasn’t terrible at all, it just wasn’t what they needed, and it wasn’t what Reinhardt knew he was capable of at the NJ facility.

Reinhardt lined up 5th in the third of four 8-lap heat races.  The top five finishers from each would transfer directly to the A-main.  After slipping backwards on the opening lap, the Neptune City, NJ native charged from 6th to 4th by the fourth circuit and set his sights on Kasey Kahne, who was occupying 3rd.  Reinhardt wasn’t quite able to get to Kahne and settled for 4th.

In the Outlaw format, each position gained in a heat race improves the driver’s A-main starting spot by four positions.  Reinhardt’s forward progress in the heat race helped secure the 15th starting spot in the night’s finale, which was shortened by five laps as a result of tire wear issues earlier in the night.

After gaining a couple spots in the early going, the mechanical engineer turned professional sprint car wheelman found himself back where he had started in the running order.

As the laps clicked off and Reinhardt’s fuel load lightened, the car and the track began to come to him.  In the final seven laps, he charged from 16th to 11th and was ready to break into the top-10 when the checkered flag fell.

A solid 11th with the Outlaws tonight. I really started passing cars at the end. Wish it didn’t get shortened to 25 laps because we were fighting for a top 10.“, Reinhardt commented.

May 20:  Wilmot Raceway / Wilmot, WI

      (ASCoC:  Rained Out)

Reinhardt and team made the 13 hour tow from NJ to Wilmot, Wisconsin for their next All Star Circuit of Champions event but got the night off when Mother Nature decided she was going to win on Friday.

May 21: Plymouth Dirt Track / Plymouth, WI

      (ASCoC:  36 cars, Qualifying 3rd Group D/11th overall, Heat 2nd, Dash 7th, A-main 5th)

With Wilmot rained out, Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team headed two hours north to Plymouth Dirt Track, which sits about halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay.

Saturday night, 36 teams signed in for action with the All Star Circuit of Champions on the one-third mile clay oval.  Reinhardt was the sixth car in Group D to go under the clock.  He turned in the 3rd fastest lap in the group, good for 11th quick overall.

The lap put Reinhardt on the outside of the front row for the fourth heat.  He was unable to beat Bill Balog to turn one and settled into second.  Kyle brought his No.91 home second, which earned him a spot in the dash when the group’s fast timer, Justin Peck, was unable to transfer after a lap one incident.

Reinhardt appeared poised to capitalize on the opportunity.  After drawing the 4th starting spot, the Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants driver used the high side in turns one and two to move into 3rd down the backstretch.  As the field entered turn three, Reinhardt looked to dive low and challenge for 2nd but incidental contact from behind turned his No.91 around, bringing an end to his shot at a front row starting spot for the A-main.

Reinhardt was credited with a 7th place finish in the dash, putting him inside row four for the 30-lap finale.  A strong move early on put the New Oxford, PA resident into the top five.  Reinhardt rode home 5th after his attempts to chase down Parker Price-Miller in 4th came up short.

I was a little tight early and gaining as the race went on.  Solid night after getting tangled up in the dash. Our first All Star top-5 on the year, so we’re pretty happy with the direction we’re going.“, Reinhardt said.

May 22:  Angell Park Speedway / Sun Prairie, WI

      (ASCoC:  33 cars, Qualifying 2nd Group A/5th overall, Heat 2nd, A-main 23rd)

For Sunday’s event, the All Star tour traveled about 90 minutes southwest to Angell Park Speedway, just outside of Madison, Wisconsin.

The night started off with a favorable pill draw for Reinhardt and team, giving them an early shot at the track during timed qualifying.  He used the opportunity to record the 5th quickest overall lap of the 33 cars on hand.  It was good for 2nd best in Group A.

Having earned the pole for heat number one, Reinhardt jumped out to an early lead.  The field chased the Capitol Renegade No.91 for the first five circuits until Bill Balog overtook Reinhardt to claim the top spot.

Reinhardt’s 2nd place finish in the heat race handed him the 9th starting spot in the 30-lap A-main.  With a top-1o starting spot and a good car under him, he was poised to put a solid week in the books and some momentum in his pocket.

Unfortunately, it didn’t play out that way.  The rough surface reached out and bit Reinhardt on the opening lap, sending him to the work area after a tangle in turn two.  Despite some delays getting there to assess the damage, the team had repairs nearly complete when time expired on them and brought an end to their night officially 23rd.

Unfortunate ending to our night. Got out of shape in the choppy track and just a mess after that. We definitely have frame damage, so we’ll have some work to do this week.”, Reinhardt shared.

“Special thanks to all the guys trying to get us back out! Wish they would have gotten us to the work area a little quicker. We were ready to roll when they put the lights out. 20 seconds would have changed our night.  That aside, I’m looking forward to getting back to PA this coming weekend!“, he concluded.

Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade team will spend the Memorial Day holiday weekend back home in Pennsylvania with stops at Williams Grove Speedway for Friday’s $10,000-to-win Randy Wolfe Tribute and Port Royal Speedway for the Bob Weikert Memorial, which pays $10,000 to Saturday’s winner and $29,000 to Sunday’s winner.

Zach Newlin Debuts with New BK Motorsports 410 Sprint Car Team at Port Royal

Weekend Also Included Successful Return to Mansberger Motorsports’ 358 Team

Port Royal, PA – May 25, 2022

It was a long wait.  60 days to be exact since Zach Newlin’s well-documented 410 sprint car crash at Port Royal Speedway that sidelined him, but let’s not dwell on the past.

Zach Daddy has returned, and all is well.

I felt great.  It was good to get behind the wheel again.“, Newlin said after climbing out of his 358 sprint car after his 20-lap feature Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.  “I’ve been feeling good doing day-to-day stuff, but I was ready to get back in the car and make sure I was race-ready.

May 20:  Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

      (Mansberger Motorsports 358:  27 cars, Heat 5th, A-main 7th)

After a few cancellations over the prior months due to weather, Friday finally brought the first race of the season for the 358 sprint cars at Williams Grove and 27 teams signed in to compete.

Lineups for the 8-lap heats were set by pill draw.  Six cars would transfer from each, with the top four finishers going to a redraw.  Zach Newlin lined up outside row two for the first heat.  He held 4th through the first half of the race but lost the spot and finished 5th, just outside of the redraw.

Newlin started 13th in the 20-lap A-main and immediately showed the team had made the correct adjustments after the qualifying race.  He steadily moved forward, working his way into the top ten.

Long runs seemed to be Newlin’s friend. During one lengthy green flag period, Newlin made significant moves forward, rolling the bottom of turns one and two very effectively to make up ground.  A caution seemed to kill his momentum.

When the race returned to green, it took it a few laps for Newlin to challenge the cars in front of him.  In the end, he crossed the line in 7th and closed out a nice return performance.

The team later discovered a very slow leak in the left rear tire, which explained the improvement on the long runs.  The tire was losing pressure under caution but during long green flag runs, heat would cause the pressure to build up again, bringing the handling of the car back to where it was best.

I think we had a top-5 car if we hadn’t had the leak in the left rear.  That’s racing.  It was still a good first night back.“, Newlin commented.

May 21:  Port Royal Speedway / Port Royal, PA

      (BK Motorsports 410:  34 cars, Qualifying 6th Group B, Heat 6th, B-main 3rd)

On May 21st, Zach Newlin not only returned to 410 sprint car racing, he debuted his new ride, the Grove Financial & Associates / Dillman Hauling / Centre Roofing & Contracting / Mattas Motorsports / Victory Auto / Ron’s RV Sales / The Roast Post / Kirby Kitner Excavating / Christine Booher, Realtor / T&M Homebuilders / Strange Oval / Walker Performance Filtration / Newlin Bar Service, BK Motorsports No.77.

BK Motorsports is a new entry in Central PA sprint car racing.  The team’s owner, Brett Knable, has been involved in the sport for many years in several different capacities, but team ownership is a new frontier.

Newlin’s sharp looking black, white and orange X1 race car was among 34 cars that entered competition at ‘The Speed Palace’ Saturday night.  With only 24 spots open for the night’s main event, the new combination would have to earn their way in against a quality field.

The event format divided the field into four groups for timed hot laps and heat races.  The groups were established by pill draw, then teams would remain within their own groups for the duration of qualifying events.  The four fastest cars in each group would be inverted to set the first two rows of each heat race lineup.  Each of the 8-lap heat races would transfer the top five finishers directly to the A-main, with the top two finishers entering the handicap procedure.

Newlin timed 6th quick in Group B, placing him 6th in the lineup for heat race number two.  Newlin was unable to advance into a transfer position, which relegated him to the B-main to try to make the field for the night’s finale.

Newlin started on the front row of the 12-lap B-main and held the 2nd position firmly for most of the event.  On one restart, he pulled alongside leader Kassidy Kreitz, but was unable to take over the lead.  On the final restart with one lap remaining, Ryan Smith found some extra speed and stole 2nd away from Newlin.  The Millerstown, PA native rode home in 3rd, putting himself and his new team in the show in their inaugural race.

Zach took the green for the 25-lap A-main from the 23rd position.  In the early laps in that situation, patience is important.  That’s especially true for a new team who needs laps to learn what they have.  Newlin took what came to him, picking up a few spots in the early going.

Two red flags for incidents paused the action over the course of the first half-dozen laps.  The race briefly went back to green, but rain arrived and interrupted the action.  The weather moved in to stay, causing the race to be suspended with 8 laps complete and 17 remaining.  Newlin was running 17th at the time and that is where he will restart when the race is resumed and completed.

I have to thank Brett for the opportunity to run his car.  He has good stuff and I think we can build something really good here.  It was a decent night for our first time out.  The first night out you’re kind of working blind.  You have no notes to go on for that particular car, so you use what you know and hopefully get it close.  I feel like we did that, so now we know what we have, and we can adjust from here.”, Newlin shared.

Up Next

Zach and the BK Motorsports team will race the two-day Bob Weikert Memorial at Port Royal Speedway, competing with the All Star Circuit of Champions.  The lucrative weekend in honor of the legendary car owner and his famous No.29 pays $10,000 to the winner on Saturday and a whopping $29,000 to the victor in Sunday’s finale.

Following Sunday’s Weikert Memorial main event, Port Royal Speedway will resume the suspended 410 sprint car feature to complete the remaining 17 laps of the May 21st event.

Halligan In Top 5 Early at Port Royal Before Rain Suspends Race

Port Royal, PA – May 25, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Chris Hockley / WRT SpeedWerx

As we have shared before, Jeff Halligan and the Risser Motorsports team have a handful of key events circled on their schedule.  Every race in between is an opportunity to prepare for those circled dates.

Last weekend presented the final tune-up opportunity at Port Royal Speedway before the upcoming Weikert Memorial, a two-day event on Memorial Day Weekend that is circled on the calendar of many teams.  In preparation, Halligan was ‘in the house’ at ‘The Speed Palace’ to do his homework there, plus he made a Friday night stop at Williams Grove Speedway to try to work through the team’s recent struggles at the famous Mechanicsburg, PA oval.

May 20:  Yellow Breeches 500 / Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

     (25 cars, Qualifying 3rd Group 1, Heat 6th, A-main 12th)

Halligan struggled in his first two Williams Grove outings this season, so the team returned for the second consecutive Friday night to work on getting over the hump.  There are big races there later in the season and they want to be ready.

The Risser Motorsports / TheTreeCenter.com / Victory Auto of Lewistown / EMM Sales & Service / Jake’s Golf Carts, No.45 of Halligan was among 25 teams signed in for $5,000-t0-win, $500-to-start Yellow Breeches 500 event.

Halligan was the first car to go under the clock for time trials.  His lap of 17.072 was good for 3rd quickest in the first of three qualifying groups.  The special Yellow Breeches format uses a pill draw after qualifying to determine how many cars will be inverted in each heat race group.  Friday night the draw turned up a zero, thus giving the Ephrata, PA driver the 3rd starting spot for heat race number one.

The opening lap of the heat race didn’t go well.  Halligan slid backwards, landing in the 6th position.  He wasn’t able to recover during the 10-lap qualifier and finished 6th, the final transfer spot for the A-main.

Halligan started 16th in the field for the 25-lap finale.  He was able to make some forward progress but spent most of the event just outside the top ten and ultimately finished 12th.  It was certainly an improvement over the team’s first two races at Williams Grove in 2022, but there is still work to be done to get closer to the front of the field.

May 21:  Port Royal Speedway / Port Royal, PA

     (34 cars, Qualifying 3rd Group C, Heat 2nd)

Saturday night brought a solid field of 34 cars to Port Royal Speedway for their group time trial format show.  Teams qualified against the clock in four groups, then within each group the fastest four were inverted to start their 8-lap heat races.  The top five finishers from each group transferred directly to the A-main, with the top two finishers being handicapped based on season point standings.

For those not familiar, a quick explanation of handicapping.  With eight drivers qualified in a handicap position through their heat races, the highest point car among them starts 8th in the feature.  The next highest point car starts 7th, and so on.

Halligan registered a solid 3rd fastest lap in Group C, putting him outside the front row for heat number three.  He was able to hold down the 2nd spot throughout the heat race and capture one of the handicap spots.

Halligan lined up 6th for the 25-lap feature event and went on the attack from the start.  He had navigated his way into the top three briefly and was holding down the 4th spot when the skies opened up and brought a premature end to the action with 8 laps complete and 17 remaining.  The race was suspended and will be resumed at that point following the Bob Weikert Memorial feature event on Sunday, May 29th.

Halligan has had a solid year at Port Royal thus far, consistently running inside the top ten.  Despite being close multiple times, he hasn’t been able to crack the podium yet though.

We’ve been good but not great at Port Royal.  We’ve struggled other places.  We need to be better if we’re going to compete for wins.  We’re making progress.  We just have to race as much as we can and keep working hard“, Halligan said.

Keen’s Grove Debut a Rough One; Busy Week Ahead to Prepare for Lincoln

Mechanicsburg, PA – May 24, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos Photography

Kyle Keen had attended countless races at Williams Grove Speedway over the years as a fan and as a member of a family who was heavily involved in racing from an ownership and sponsorship perspective.  Yet somehow the idea of actually racing the legendary oval himself had never really crossed his mind.

For that matter, Keen had not considered racing anywhere.  After a successful year in iRacing in 2018, his appetite had been spurred and the thought crossed his mind.  In 2019 he entered the sport as a driver in the 305 sprint car division, but during his first two seasons he didn’t get the opportunity to make laps at ‘The Grove’.

Now, after moving up to 358 sprint cars for the 2022 season, he here was, about to make laps on the famous Mechanicsburg, PA speedway in his Fine Line Auto Body / Keen Parts / Doubling Gap Ranch / Shetron Auction & Equipment, LLC. / Wicked Dog Grille / Heishman Racing Fuels / Wicked Cushion / DL Lehman Construction, LLC. / GearHead Coffee / Jeremy Zarfos Photography / Coyle’s Lawn Maintenance / One Nine Design, Kyle Keen Motorsports No.17k.

Despite having never circled the track before, Keen registered very respectable times in hot laps.  A favorable pill draw placed him 3rd on the starting grid for heat number two.  When the green flag dropped on the 8-lap qualifying event, issues arose for the Carlisle, PA native.

Something was off from the start and Keen lost a few positions on the opening lap.  As he began the second circuit, the part causing the handling difficulties failed completely, sending Keen into the fence.

I felt good in hot laps.  Something didn’t feel right in the start of the heat though and it was throwing the car off.  I had my hands full.  I tried to hold onto it for a transfer spot, but as I went into (turn) one, something broke in the right front and I was along for the ride into the outside wall.“, Keen shared, recounting the events that ended his debut at ‘The Grove’.

The team believes the failure involved a component in the steering or front suspension, although it’s difficult to be certain with the amount of damage that was caused by the resulting impact.  The contact with the outside fence caused frame damage that will keep the team busy this week if they hope to be ready in time for this Saturday’s 358-sprint car event at Lincoln Speedway.

The team started their week by stripping the car down to the bare frame so it could be sent for repairs.  When the frame is ready in a couple days, Kyle and his team will begin rebuilding the car from the ground up, with a goal of being ready to go Saturday.

We have a lot to learn, but I know we can be right there.  It’s a seat time thing, but I’m loving every second of it.  Tons of new challenges and obstacles so far this year for sure, but we will overcome!“, a positive Keen shared via Twitter this week.

Up Next

Kyle Keen Motorsports will be looking to put the misfortune behind them when they return to action Friday, June 10th at Williams Grove Speedway.  The following night they will head back to Lincoln Speedway where they will look to log another top ten run as they build their first-year 358 sprint car program.

BREAKING NEWS: Zach Newlin’s 410 Sprint Car Return Set for Saturday 5/21 at Port Royal

Sunday Trip to Path Valley Speedway Also Planned This Weekend

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Millerstown, PA – May 20, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Zach Daddy is back.

It has been 61 days since Zach Newlin took a nasty ride at Port Royal Speedway that put him on the sidelines with head and neck injuries.  Since that day, appointments, effort and patience have all been vital elements to his return.

Friday night, May 20th, he strapped back in for the first time since that crash.  He was aboard the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car at Williams Grove Speedway.  While Newlin has been feeling great on a day to day basis, the goal Friday was to evaluate how he felt in the car, at speed.

All went well.  After a 5th place finish in his heat race, Newlin drove from 13th to 7th in the 20-lap A-main.  Given his time away and the fact is was the first race of the year for the No.21m, that’s a solid night for sure.  The best news though was that Newlin felt 100% normal physically.

During his time away, Newlin parted ways with the Pryde Motorsports No.29 and began working on new opportunities.  With Friday’s ‘test’ behind him, it is now time to begin the next chapter.

Zach Newlin will return to 410 sprint car action aboard the BK Motorsports No.k77.  The new team will make their debut at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night, May 21st.  Plans are to also compete at Path Valley Speedway on Sunday, May 22nd.

Newlin is appreciative of the support and concern he has received over the past two months from fans, friends, family and the racing community as a whole.

He is also appreciative of his long time partners who have stuck with him through all the changes the sport brings.  The Grove Financial & Associates / Dillman Hauling / Ron’s RV Sales / Kirby Kitner Excavating / Christine Booher, Realtor / T&M Homebuilders / Strange Oval / Walker Performance Filtration / Newlin Bar Service, BK Motorsports No.k77 is ready to roll and Zach Daddy is ready to strap in and get back to work.

Henderson Overcomes Mechanical Failure at Knoxville to Earn Podium Finish at Huset’s

Brandon, SD – May 18, 2022

by Justin Snyder, Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  Spot-Photos.com

Justin Henderson highlighted a two-race weekend behind the wheel of the Mike Sandvig Motorsports No. 7 410 Sprint Car with a third-place finish on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway. He also scored a 22nd-place finish on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway following late-race mechanical issues that spoiled what appeared to be a promising night.

“We’ve got a ton of speed at Knoxville, and it shows every time we are there, but we can’t have nights like Saturday if we want to win a championship,” said Henderson. “Overall, it was a good weekend and I’m happy with the way the car feels. We’re going to find victory lane sooner than later.”

Henderson kicked off the weekend on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway where he qualified seventh quickest among 34 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 16.318 seconds. He then advanced one position in a heat race to finish fourth and locked himself directly into the night’s A-main event.

“We’re continuously fast to start the night and we’re putting ourselves in a good position to be competitive,” he said. “That’s what you need to be successful and it’s nice to know you don’t need to worry too much about getting into shows.”

Lining up from the outside-third row starting spot for the feature, Henderson quickly advanced to the fourth position on lap two. After a multi-lap battle for the position with fifth-place driver Austin McCarl, he settled into fourth over the first half of the event. Following a restart with eight laps to go, he slipped back to fifth, but with two laps remaining he was able to advance back to fourth. Entering turn one on the following circuit, he broke a steering arm and was unable to control the car, so he came to a stop against the outside guardrail. He would not rejoin the field and as a result he was credited with finishing in 22nd.

“I don’t think we had anything for the top two guys on the track, so we were running right around where we were supposed to be in terms of speed,” said Henderson. “Unfortunately, we broke the steering arm there on the last lap and I lost brakes and couldn’t control the car at all. It stinks to see a top five go away there with only three turns remaining, but overall, we know that we had a pretty good car and aren’t far off in terms of competing for wins.”

The team next headed to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday, where Henderson qualified eighth quickest out of 26 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 11.065 seconds before finishing where he started – second – in a heat race, He earned a spot in the re-draw as a result and drew the No. 6 pill to claim an outside-third row starting spot for the feature.

On a track that took rubber near the halfway point of the feature, Henderson was unable to mount any real charge to the front of the field. However, he was able to capitalize in key moments to advance three positions throughout the duration of the A-main to earn a third-place finish and a spot on the podium. The top five finish was the team’s third of the season in six total starts.

“It was really hard to get up speed early in the night as it was pretty slick,” he said. ” I found the rubber pretty quick in the feature and I stayed there most the race. I was able to pick up a few spots, but by then everyone was just locked to the bottom going as fast as we could go. Everybody is racing on equal terms, so I can’t really complain about the night, and I’ll take the third.”

Next up for Henderson and Sandvig will be another weekend doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday and Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. Following last weekend’s disappointment at Knoxville, Henderson sits third in the track point standings. Meanwhile at Huset’s, Henderson sits in second in the standings and trails first by a mere 12 points.

Henderson also plans to compete for $3000 on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minnesota in his own MAX Motorsports No. 83 360 Sprint Car and again at Knoxville on Saturday. If he can sweep the weekend in the 360 division, there is an added $3000 bonus on the line as well.

“This is a big weekend for us, and I look forward to it every year,” said Henderson. “Anytime I can get extra laps in my car it can only benefit me in Mike’s car. In recent season’s we have been really fast in the 360 division, so I’m hoping that we can pick up a few wins and some extra money this weekend and hopefully that will rub off on the 410 sprint car side of things too.”

Reinhardt Captures Top-10 in Michigan; Nearly Grabs Two More in Ohio

Upcoming Four-Race Week Includes Trips to New Jersey and Wisconsin

Waynesfield, OH – May 17, 2022

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Management

Feature Photo Credit:  SprintCarNews.com

Following a weekend off, Kyle Reinhardt couldn’t pass up an opportunity to race just two miles from the Capitol Renegade team’s race shop, before hitting the road for the next three stops on the All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) tour.

Not only did Wednesday’s Outlaw show at Lincoln Speedway offer a potentially good payday, it meant valuable track time before Reinhardt returns to the Pigeon Hills oval two more times later this season with the ASCoC for races paying $7,300 and $20,000 to win.

May 11:  Gettysburg Clash / Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

      (55 cars, Qualifying 17th, Heat 10th, C-main 1st, B-main 17th)

An unfavorable draw placed Reinhardt near the end of Flight A qualifying for the first 28 of 55 cars on hand at Lincoln Speedway.  He recorded the 17th quickest time in the group, placing him 9th to start heat number one.  Only the top five from the 8-lap qualifying race would move directly to the A-main.

Reinhardt came home 10th in the heat race, placing him on the pole of the C-main.  He went on to capture the win in the 10-lap ‘C’, then finished 17th in the 12-lap ‘B’.

May 13:  Mace Thomas Classic / I-96 Speedway / Lake Odessa, MI

      (29 cars, Qualifying 17th, Heat 6th, A-main 7th)

With 29 teams signed in at I-96 Speedway for the Mace Thomas Classic, the single-group qualifying, and three heat format was in effect per the All Star rule for 30 cars or less.

Kyle Reinhardt was 21st in line to go under the clock.  The late slot wasn’t ideal for qualifying against the entire field.  Reinhardt managed to record the 17th best time overall, slotting him 6th in heat number two.

In the three heat format, the top six finishers from each 8-lap qualifying event transfer directly to the A-main.  Reinhardt ‘held serve’ and came home 6th to lock into the 30-lap feature event, but he would have his work cut out for him from the 17th starting spot.

Piloting the Capitol Renegade / Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers / Champion Hi-Tech Lubricants / J&J Auto Racing No.91, Reinhardt saved his best for last. From the drop of the green in the A-main he surged forward, entering the top ten by lap nine, then steadily working his way further up the leaderboard, reaching the 8th position by lap 19.

A few laps later, a flat right rear tire appeared to ruin a terrific run by Reinhardt.  His team was able to replace the tire and get him back out in time to rejoin the rear of the field.

With just seven laps remaining at the restart, Reinhardt wasted no time charging back into the top ten, ultimately reaching 7th by the time he flashed under the checkered flag.  It was an impressive recovery from a dose of bad luck.

May 14:  Wayne County Speedway / Orrville, OH

      (27 cars, Qualifying 7th, Heat 4th, A-main 15th)

The series rolled into Wayne County Speedway on Saturday night with a contingent of 27 teams in tow.  Once again, the single group qualifying, three heat format was in effect.

Reinhardt turned in a solid lap, making himself 7th quick in the field and snagging the outside front row starting spot for heat number one.  It was a good opportunity to claim a spot in the dash by winning the qualifying race, but it wasn’t to be.  Reinhardt finished 4th and transferred to the feature event.

Rolling off from his 12th starting spot in the 30-lap A-main, Reinhardt had his sights set on a second consecutive top-10 finish.  The opening laps of the finale saw him struggle with an ill-handling car and drop through the running order.

After falling as far back as 18th two laps before the halfway point of the race, the Neptune City, NJ native began his resurgence.  By lap 26, Reinhardt had climbed all the way back to 12th.  A solid recovery, but he was still challenging for more when the caution came out on lap 28.

We got better as the fuel load burned off and I was able to get back everything I lost early on.  My right rear started going down with a handful of laps to go but we were about to get into the top-10 when the caution came out with two laps to go.  The tire was almost completely flat by the time we went back to green, and I lost a couple spots.“, Reinhard explained.

He crossed the finish line in 15th when all was said and done.

May 15:  Waynesfield Raceway Park / Waynesfield, OH

      (23 cars, Qualifying 6th, Heat 1st, Dash 4th, A-main 13th)

The final stop of the weekend for the All Stars was Waynesfield Raceway Park in western Ohio.  Kyle Reinhardt’s night started off well, registering the 6th quickest lap in the field of 23.

The momentum continued with a dominating win in heat number three.  Reinhardt led all eight laps and held a 2.061 second advantage at the finish line.

The dash draw handed Reinhardt the fourth starting spot in the 6-lap dash.  He grabbed 3rd on the start but eventually Justin Peck worked his way back into the spot, relegating the Capitol Renegade No.91 of Reinhardt to a 4th place finish.

The 30-lap A-main shaped up to be a season best for Reinhardt.  He took the green from the 4th starting spot and worked his way into 3rd by lap ten.  His J&J Auto Racing machine was good, and he was clearly on offense.

Reinhardt was poised to take a shot at 2nd place on lap 25 when he made slight contact with the No.7 of Scott Bogucki as the pair exited turn four.  It was enough to spin Reinhardt, sending him to the back of the field for the restart.  He managed to fight back to 13th at the final flag.

I totally blew that one.  The 7 crossed over more than I thought he was going to, and I got my left side in the slop and just plowed into him.  Feel terrible for my guys because we needed that one.  We were racing hard for a win. Not much else to say.“, a disappointed Reinhardt tweeted after the event.

There was one more note from Waynesfield.  Reinhardt had yet another right rear tire go down during the final five laps, making it three in three nights.

Wrap-Up

I’m definitely a lot more comfortable on the smaller, slicker tracks than I was last year.  We’re a lot better this year…a lot closer to where we need to be.“, Reinhardt commented.

We put ourselves in position for three top-10 finishes this weekend.  It’s disappointing to have a couple of them slip away, but we have to shake it off.  We know we’re getting better.  Three right rear flats in three nights…that’s just tough luck and out of our control.  We have to work on the things we can control and hope the things we can’t, start to go our way.

Up Next

Reinhardt will kick off his race week Tuesday night, May 17th, with a trip to his home state of NJ to take on the World of Outlaws at Bridgeport Motorsports Park.

Later in the week, the Capitol Renegade team will head north to Wisconsin for stops with the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions at Wilmot Raceway, Plymouth Dirt Track, and Angell Park Speedway on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Jeff Halligan and Risser Motorsports Build Notebook vs. Outlaws

Mechanicsburg, PA – May 17, 2022

Racing more, regardless of where, helps teams learn what their equipment needs to be at its best.  For Risser Motorsports in 2022 though, it’s been difficult to race as much as they want to.  Things like tire availability and delays in obtaining parts, have forced Jeff Halligan and his team to limit the number of nights the team races.  Their primary focus has been Port Royal Speedway.

An off weekend from their weekly home at ‘The Speed Palace’ provided Halligan and team with the opportunity to make their first trip of the season to Lincoln Speedway, as well as a return trip to Williams Grove Speedway.  They would face the always tough World of Outlaws at both events, but to improve, you have to race.

May 11:  Gettysburg Clash / Lincoln Speedway / Abbottstown, PA

     (55 cars, Qualifying 11th, Heat 9th, B-main 15th)

A stout field of 55 teams signed in at Lincoln Speedway to compete with the World of Outlaw sprint car series in the Gettysburg Clash.  The lucrative show has consistently drawn a high quality field in recent years in pursuit of the $10,000 winner’s share and minimum $1,000 to make the field.

Jeff Halligan got his night off to a respectable start during Flight A qualifying, timing 11th quickest in the Risser Motorsports / TheTreeCenter.com / Victory Auto of Lewistown / EMM Sales & Service / Jake’s Golf Carts, No.45.

The solid qualifying effort provided Halligan with the 6th starting spot in the first 8-lap heat race.  With the top five finishers slated to transfer directly to the A-main, he was certainly within striking distance.  Unfortunately, Halligan fought an ill-handling car in the dirty air and slid backwards to a 9th place finish.

The heat race finish led to a 13th starting spot in the 12-lap B-main.  Reaching a top four finishing spot to transfer to the night’s finale proved to be a tall order.  Halligan was credited with 15th in the event.

May 14:  Morgan Cup / Williams Grove Speedway / Mechanicsburg, PA

     (41 cars, Qualifying 19th, Heat 9th, B-main 10th)

Saturday night a slightly smaller but still deep field of 41 cars registered for a shot at the $17,000 winner’s take.

Halligan’s qualifying laps resulted in an uncharacteristically poor result, landing the team 19th out of 20 in Flight 2 and leaving them with a deep hole to climb out of.

The good news is, team would later find an issue that explained the result.  For now, though, they would have to play with the hand they were dealt.  Transferring to the A-main from his heat race was probably unlikely against the level of competition present.  Recovering would require Halligan to, at a minimum, make significant forward progress from his 10th starting spot in the heat.  Doing so would put him within striking distance of a transfer spot later in the B-main.

Halligan was only able to get to 9th in the heat race, handing him a 14th starting spot in the 12-lap B-main.  The team’s night-long battle with gremlins was ongoing.  They were prepared to load and call it a night when a last ditch idea gave them reason to soldier on.

While a 10th place finish in the B-main still brought an end to their night, the victory was in discovering they had identified the cause of their issue.

I finally felt really good there at the end of our night.  In the end, it was a productive night.  It’s tough to feel that way sometimes when you don’t get the finish you know you’re capable of, but this is exactly why we need to race more.  You can’t solve problems or get better sitting at home.“, Halligan shared.

Given we haven’t raced much at Lincoln or The Grove this year, we knew we might take our lumps coming out here against the Outlaws, but you need to measure yourself sometimes.  Our goal was just to make both shows.  Obviously, we fell short, but we’re better off being out here and working to get better.  Our focus is on our car and getting balance in it.  Racing here can even help us back at Port (Royal).”, he concluded.

Up Next

Halligan and the Risser Motorsports team are set to tackle their first three-race weekend of the 2022 season.  The weekend will kick off Friday night May 20th at Williams Grove Speedway with the Yellow Breeches 500 event, paying $500 to start and $5,000 to the winner.

Saturday they will return to Port Royal Speedway, where Halligan currently sits 4th in the championship point standings, just 25 points out of 2nd.  Saturday’s race will also award $5,000 to the winner.

Tentatively, the weekend will wrap up Sunday with Jeff’s first 410 sprint car start at Path Valley Speedway.   The only appearance of the year at the quarter-mile track will provide the third opportunity of the weekend for the victor to claim $5,000.
