Cappetta Reflects on a Season of Growth and Looks Ahead to 2026

Ashley Cappetta wrapped up her 2025 season at Lincoln Speedway last Saturday, closing out a year filled with growth, resilience, and consistency.

After switching from her #89 to the Apple #12 car early in the season, Cappetta set a clear goal for herself and her team — to be stronger and more consistent than in previous years — and she feels confident they achieved just that.

“I just wanted to be better than we’ve been in past seasons, and I feel like we met that expectation,” Cappetta said. “I never expected to end up in the Apple 12 after just a few races, so living that childhood dream has been incredible. Some days it still doesn’t feel real.”

The 2025 season brought several changes for Cappetta, including a new crew chief and crew adjustments midway through the year. Despite those challenges — and setbacks like a broken camshaft that sidelined her while leading the points — Cappetta remained a steady presence in Lincoln’s competitive 358 division.

“We were consistent all season except for a handful of nights,” she noted. “Saturday’s regular feature was probably one of our toughest nights, but overall, this was the most consistent year we’ve had in a long time.”
Cappetta’s night at Lincoln’s season finale was a mixed one, with mechanical gremlins testing her team’s persistence.

“In the make-up feature, I felt okay. If we’d started a little further up, I think we could’ve done better than seventh,” Cappetta said. “The cautions hurt us, but overall, I was happy with that race. In the regular feature, we just couldn’t get things to click — I think the motor is getting tired. It’s time to freshen up our motor program this winter.”

The team plans to rebuild both engines during the off-season, and Cappetta is already setting her sights on an even stronger 2026 campaign.

“This off-season, I want to get back in the gym, get stronger, and make sure the cars and motors are in top shape,” Cappetta said. “We’ll be working on sponsorship, getting ready for our annual fundraiser, and just mentally resetting. I’m in a much better headspace this year, and that gives me the motivation to really push for next season.”

In addition to her time behind the wheel, Cappetta took on a new challenge in 2025 — helping to promote, which included focusing on two races specifically for the 358 division.

“It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed it,” she said. “It really gives you a new appreciation for how much effort goes into putting these shows together. I’m looking forward to doing it again next year with the Weldon Sterner Memorial.”

Cappetta expressed deep gratitude for her supporters, crew, and sponsors who helped make the season possible.

“I can’t thank my sponsors enough, especially Gettysburg Trading Post — they’ve been with me for 14 years, and next year will mark our 15th season together,” she said. “The fans mean the world to me, too. Their support, whether it’s buying merchandise or cheering us on at the track, keeps me going.”

As the off-season begins, Cappetta is already preparing for her 14th Annual “Night at the Races” Fundraiser, set for February 14, 2026, at the Irishtown Fire Company.

Tickets will be $25 from November 1–30, and $30 starting December 1. The first 150 attendees through the door will receive a free event T-shirt. Tickets will be available through Cappetta beginning November 1.

“We’ve got a great support system around us right now,” Cappetta said. “I’m grateful for everyone who’s part of this team, and I’m already looking forward to what’s ahead in 2026.”

ABOUT  ASHLEY CAPPETTA

Ashley Cappetta is a second-generation racer following her uncle’s footsteps. She started her racing career in 2012. It was her first year piloting her race car but certainly not her first exposure to the sport. She was introduced to racing by her father, who was Steve Smith’s crew chief. Her uncle, Rob Cappetta was also involved in the sport driving his own #89 sprint car and went on to be a gasman for Robert Yates Racing. Ashley is making her own way by being the first female in her family to set center stage as a driver. Ashley has had a couple of years of sprint car experience with various teams, starting out as a crew member doing such simple tasks as scrapping mud to advancing her skills into doing maintenance for her own race car. Ashley showing her success with not only her abilities working on her race car but also by winning a Hard Charger Award in only her first season racing. Ashley feels she has the best of both worlds by not only knowing how to race but by having the knowledge of the mechanics and being able to provide detailed feedback to her team. Her goal is to continue to grow as a racer and work her way up through the sprint car division.

It’s Clicking Now: Ross Poised for Strong Finish to 2025

Three weeks ago at Williams Grove’s National Open, Tyler Ross and Ross Racing solved a challenge that had plagued the team most of the season.  As a result, he scored a 13th-place finish in the prestigious event.  More importantly, it boosted confidence and morale.

Less than one week later, Ross prepared for two more rounds with the World of Outlaws, hoping to continue the newfound momentum.

GAME OF INCHES

The two-race weekend against the PA Posse’s longtime foe, the Outlaws, kicked off on neutral turf at New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey.

After a respectable qualifying run and heat race finish, Ross started 15th in the 30-lap A-main.  

Just a few laps into the race, Ross had surged inside the top ten before it all unraveled.  On an early restart, he hopped the right rear of another car and ended up at the back of the field.

“Our results don’t show the speed we had.  The guys gave me a really good car.  I really feel we had a solid top-ten car if not for the contact on the restart,” a disappointed Ross said.

LEMONADE OUT OF LEMONS

Ross was looking forward to taking on the touring series at his weekly home, Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania.

The Lincoln University, PA driver qualified 11th in his flight, then looked to move forward from his heat race starting spot outside row three.  In close quarters on the start, Ross got a piece of another car’s right rear tire.  It was enough to upset the Bush Auto Group, Fastrak Express Inc., Stateline Truck and Trailer, Stoltzfus Farm Service / Kubota ™️, Betts Garage No.5, and drop him to the back of the field.  Recovering the lost track position proved to be difficult with a narrow racing groove.

Ross utilized a track provisional to join the field for the 35-lap feature, taking the green flag from the 26th starting spot.  

He wasted no time, racing his way to 16th by lap thirteen.  Ross went on to pass a total of thirteen cars to finish 13th.  It was a stellar recovery from a disappointing start to the night.

“Man, I would have liked to have seen what we would have been able to do with a better starting spot,” a smiling Ross said of the bittersweet finish.

“That was the first time we brought the white car here this year, and I felt extremely comfortable in the feature.”

STRONG FINISH

Ross returned to Lincoln Speedway over the recent weekend for the track’s season finale, dubbed the “Final 50”, and he came out of the gate strong, qualifying 6th quickest and taking his 5th heat race win of the season.

From his 4th row starting spot in the extra-distance main event, Ross held his ground in the back half of the top ten throughout the first half of the race.

Just after the halfway point, Ross fought his way into 6th and continued to press forward, cracking the top five and holding down the position for the final three circuits to secure his 8th top-five and 19th top-ten of the 2025 season.

“I’m very pleased with our night. We were okay in the feature, just couldn’t get going good enough before the rubber came in. The car was good, it’s just tough redrawing a 7 and trying to drive to the front with other fast cars,” Ross commented on his night.

Ross has three races remaining on his 2025 schedule, beginning at BAPS Motor Speedway this Saturday.  The following weekend he will make the short trip to Bridgeport Motorsports Park in NJ for the Dirty Jersey Finale.  The final outing of the year will be November 15th at BAPS.

“I hope we can just keep this going and finish strong with top-fives or podium finishes.  We want to end the year on a high note and start the rebuild for next year with a solid foundation,” Ross said.

ABOUT  TYLER ROSS

Tyler started his racing career in 2002 in quarter midgets. At the age of 14, he jumped into the 600 micro scene. At the age of 18, he started his sprint car career in the 358 division and, shortly after, jumped to the 410 division. He owns (9) 358 sprint wins, (4) 360 URC feature wins, and (7) 410 sprint car feature wins, plus he earned the 2015 URC Rookie of the Year award.

Lattomus Makes First National Main With High Limit Racing, Logs Top Ten in Lincoln’s Final 50

Preston Lattomus battled through an end-of-summer slump and bounced back by checking off a career first.  

The momentum continued with a top ten finish last weekend in the longest A-main of his rookie 410 sprint car campaign.

The young Delaware product is looking to keep it rolling over the coming weeks as he closes out his first season at the wheel of the Capitol Custom Trailers & Coaches, E-Z GO, Betts Garage No.91.

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED

Lattomus closed out September by joining the High Limit Racing series at Bridgeport Motorsports Park in New Jersey.  In his first visit to the high-banked, 4-tenths mile oval, he overcame a disappointing qualifying lap by fighting his way through the B-main to make his first national touring series feature event.  Unfortunately, the event was cut short when rain came after lap ten, stealing his opportunity to move forward in the A-main.

“Making our first national series feature at Bridgeport was a very cool moment for me, even though it got cut short by the weather,” Lattomus shared.

“I love Bridgeport as a racetrack, and I call it my home track because I’ve been going there my whole life to watch national touring races. It’s always been the closest track to us to have those races.”

Two weeks later, Lattomus backed up the accomplishment by duplicating the achievement against the World of Outlaws at New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey on his first visit in a 410 sprint car.  He brought home a 20th-place finish.

“Both series were a privilege to race with and I’m excited to race with them again,” Lattomus said.

BIG REBOUND

Lattomus returned to more familiar turf on October 11th, once again taking on the World of Outlaws, this time at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA.  A poor qualifying lap put the Lewes, DE driver in a hole he could not dig out of, ending his night short of the A-main.

The following Saturday, Lattomus and team returned to Lincoln Speedway to wrap up the speedway’s season in the Final 50 event.  They brought back the same car they raced the week before against the Outlaws, a car that the team has struggled with recently.

On this night, it was a different story.  Adjustments led to a good qualifying lap, 5th in his flight.  Lattomus followed it up with a heat race podium, then charged from 11th to 7th in the 50-lap finale to record his 5th top-ten of the season.

“Our last two Saturdays were in the PA car.  We finally made progress on it, and we put together a good night. The qualifying lap set us up for the 50-lapper,” Lattomus commented.

WRAPPING IT UP

Lattomus will wrap up his season in the coming weeks.  The next two weekends are set in stone with a possible third race in mid-November.

“We will be at BAPS (Motor Speedway) this weekend, and we are running Bridgeport (Motorsports Park) at the end of the month.  The November BAPS race is tentative, depending on the weather,” Lattomus shared.

“BAPS is a track we haven’t had much time on this year due to weather and mechanical problems, but the last feature we ran there, we had great speed.  I can’t wait to get back to Bridgeport.  I really like the track.  I love racing there.”

Lattomus has diligently worked through the challenges and learning curve of his first 410 sprint car season, and as he approaches the conclusion of his rookie season, his optimism and growing confidence are apparent.

ZNR Overcoming Challenges of Building a 410 Program, Forging Ahead With 2026 Prep

Zach Newlin and his family have been patiently and diligently working to build their own 410 sprint car program over the past two seasons.  It has been a challenging and often frustrating undertaking, but it is also a journey that has the potential to be one of the Millerstown, Pennsylvania team’s most rewarding experiences in racing.

Unfortunately, Newlin’s 2025 season ended abruptly and prematurely with a bent race car.  The good news is, he and the team had made a breakthrough that night before the crash and went into the offseason with optimism for the future.  More on that in a bit.

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

Newlin and his family’s decision to resurrect their team in 2023 came on the heels of opportunities to drive winged 410 sprint cars for a few other owners from late 2020 through mid-2022.  

The popular driver known as ‘Zach Daddy’ had some high points in those rides, the foremost being making his first World of Outlaws A-main, which came at Port Royal Speedway in the Allan Pryde No.29 in 2021.

During the offseason following the 2022 season, Newlin and his family, who had previously fielded successful 305 and 358 sprint car programs, decided it was time to control their own destiny.  Despite knowing it would be an uphill battle, both financially and competitively, it was the path that was calling them.

“We built our own 305 sprint car team and had a lot of success.  We had a lot of fun doing it, too.  When we decided to go 358 racing, it wasn’t as simple as a bigger motor.  There was a learning curve, but we managed to win a race in our first year,” Newlin said.

“We knew building a 410 team would be the hardest thing we’ve ever done in racing.”

Newlin’s racing resume is a solid one.  He has been racing for over 25 years, and he has been successful from go-karts to micro sprints to full-size sprint cars.

In 358 sprint car competition from 2020 to 2023, Newlin has won twice at Williams Grove Speedway and earned the track’s Rookie of the Year honors in 2020. In that rookie year, which consisted of eleven races, Newlin finished in the top ten an impressive eight times.

In 305 sprint cars from 2015 to 2019, Newlin is a 2-time PA Sprint Series Champion, a 2-time PA RaceSaver IMCA Champion, and a 4-time BAPS Motor Speedway Champion. In addition, he amassed 15 wins and 100 top-ten finishes during those seasons.

STRATEGIC CHOICES

“We have always made the most of what we had.  We have never had the budget to have top-of-the-line stuff at any level, but we have been successful because we worked hard, took care of our equipment, and made smart choices,” Newlin shared.

Newlin not only has a day job, but he also owns his own business, Newlin Bar Service, which offers titanium torsion arms, torsion bar dyno testing, and exclusive cleaning tools for sprint cars and micro sprints.  While all of that is going well, the economic times have left him with a little business debt to prioritize, which means less funds are available for racing.

“I won’t run myself or anyone into the ground financially to race more,” Newlin said. 

“We pick and choose when and where we race to make sure every time we unload, we are going to add the most value to growing our program.  We need to maximize laps to make progress.”

Newlin’s engine is down on horsepower compared to the top teams, so he has to factor that in when picking his battles.  He is always looking at track schedules and sizing up each event to determine his team’s potential to make laps and money.

“All the internal engine parts are new, but the block is twenty years old, and the heads are pretty old too.  It’s not a bad engine by any means, but it’s limited on how much it can produce,” Newlin said.

Sure, the number of race nights he can take on is limited by budget, but even a larger contribution from a sponsor wouldn’t necessarily mean adding races to his schedule.

Newlin’s team is also limited because there are so few shows available these days that fit the criteria for teams like his.  For example, they have to consider expected field sizes that provide a reasonable chance to make the feature, plus they have to weigh their odds based on the start money and tow money offered by the track.  

“We have to look at all the factors before we decide to go racing.  We can’t just go because we want to.  We have to race smart right now until we can build this thing up,” Newlin explained.

“If we had the funding to buy some new components like a rear end and wheels, that would make a big difference.  We often race on used tires to save money, so funds to buy new tires would be helpful, of course.  Our suspension, the shocks, bars, and arms are up to date, but it would help a lot to upgrade those other components.”

Newlin noted that the team is definitely looking for additional marketing partners for 2026, but was clear that more funding would not necessarily mean adding races to the team’s schedule.  Upgrading components and racing on new tires when it makes sense would definitely help improve their performance, but the team’s ability to add races would require a much larger influx of funds to help change the factors in the decision process they currently have to go through to choose when and where to race.

COMING TOGETHER

Zach and his crew chief, brother Lance Newlin, wrestled with their Butler Hill Maple Farm, Ron’s RV Sales No.11z throughout 2025, tinkering with the setup, motor, and everything in between to find the right combination.  It seemed nothing helped the car reach the potential they felt it could.

Finally, good news.  At Port Royal Speedway on August 30th, they made a discovery about their fueling system.  It only took a few laps to confirm they were onto something.  

The bad news?  Now they would go back to square one to find the right setup for the newfound RPMs.

“We discovered an issue with our pill selector.  The engine not running properly impacts the setup.  We chased the setup, but now we know that was never going to really solve the problem,” Newlin explained.

“Most of the year, our setup was off and we were down horsepower, but we were still running decent lap times.  With just this fueling issue resolved, I’m confident we will have the speed we need to be more competitive in 2026.  When we get the setup dialed in on top of that, we can be in position to make more shows and race for top-15’s and top 10’s consistently.”

“We know we can’t win races with the engine and components we have, but those are realistic goals if we get the most out of our equipment at the shows we choose to run.”

FORGING AHEAD

As we mentioned, Newlin crashed out of his last race in 2025, but just one month later, preparations for 2026 are well underway.  The team purchased an RPM chassis with less than twenty races on it to replace the one that was bent in the season-ending crash in September.  Newlin has already had the frame painted, installed the XC Gear Monkey Bars system, and mounted his seat.

The XC Gear Monkey Bars system is an anti-vibration race seat mount that is specifically intended to reduce injuries. It is designed to lessen the effect of constant vibration on the driver and to mitigate high-impact forces during a crash.

The team’s engine will soon be on its way to Hershey Racing Engines to be looked over and ensure it is ready for 2026.  Meanwhile, they will begin to assemble their car, going over every component thoroughly, replacing what they have to, and upgrading what they are able to.

Newlin stuck close to home at Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedways in 2025 for two reasons.  First, those two tracks offered the best opportunities for him to get laps and make money.  Second, the team’s truck wasn’t ideal for traveling very far.  The team will have a better truck in 2026, so that would allow them to go a little further from home, if it makes sense to do so based on other factors.  

Another positive note regarding the 2026 season is that the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car is expected to return to competition with Newlin at the wheel.  The 21m team sat out the balance of 2025 after car owner Dan Mansberger lost his battle with cancer.  Dan wanted the team to continue without him, so his son, Nathan, will oversee the team to ensure that happens.

“I love racing with those guys (Mansberger Motorsports) and I can’t wait to get back to the track with them.  Dan was such a good guy, and we miss him.  I was so happy to get his car back to victory lane, and we are going to do everything we can to do it again,” Newlin said.

Zach started racing go-karts in 1998 at the age of 10, stepped up to 600 micro sprints in 2005, and moved into 305 sprints in 2013. Following seven highly successful seasons in the 305 sprint car ranks, he moved into the 358 sprint car ranks in 2020. He found victory lane at Williams Grove Speedway in his rookie season in the Newlin Racing 11z and was awarded Rookie of the Year honors. He has piloted the Mansberger Motorsports No.21m 358 sprint car since 2021 and captured another Williams Grove victory aboard that car in 2023. Tony Jackson and Scott Hess Racing Earn 15th Win of 2025 Season with Wingless Triumph at Selinsgrove Speedway

Tony Jackson and the Scott Hess Racing team continued their dominant 2025 campaign this past weekend, capturing their 15th victory of the season with an impressive wingless feature win at Selinsgrove Speedway.

Jackson started the night with determination, charging from his fifth-place starting spot in the heat race to take the win, securing the third starting position for the evening’s 20-lap main event. When the green flag dropped, Jackson fell back a spot. However, by lap six, he had worked himself into the lead, and he never looked back, taking the checkered flag in convincing fashion.

“We fell back as far as fourth early in things, but we just worked ourselves back to the front around lap six,” said Jackson. “The track was in really good shape and things went nonstop, so once we got to the lead it was just my job not to mess it up.”

The triumph marks another highlight in what has been a standout year for Jackson and the Scott Hess Racing team. As the 2025 season nears its conclusion — and with Jackson preparing to step away from full-time competition — every race has taken on added significance.

The team will take the upcoming weekend off, but they have two more events remaining on their 2025 schedule before Jackson officially retires from the sport.

“We have two races left on the schedule, and when you look at how the weather has been, it’s kind of starting to sink in that this could be the last one,” he said. “I’m trying to soak in each race, win as many as we can, and just take it all in every time we hit the track.”

With 15 wins already under their belt, Jackson and the Scott Hess Racing team aim to finish their storybook season — and Jackson’s career — on the highest possible note.

One Race Makes All the Difference for Tyler Ross

Tyler Ross has finished in the top ten in nearly fifty percent of the races he has entered in 2025, a statistic that many teams would be happy to own. 

For Ross, though, there is unfinished business.  He has yet to crack victory lane this year, something he knows his team is capable of.  They have proven it multiple times in recent years.

No matter how good your team is, winning is never guaranteed in 410 sprint car racing, but Ross and his team have been working hard all season to overcome hurdles that they are confident are standing between Ross Racing and their next checkered flag.

CUT SHORT IN JERSEY

To close out the month of September, Ross made the trip to Bridgeport Motorsports Park in Swedesboro, NJ, to take on the High Limit Racing series.  The one-hour tow was the shortest of the season for the Lincoln University, PA, driver who is accustomed to traveling anywhere from ninety minutes to nearly three hours to race.

“We have always been pretty solid at Bridgeport,” Ross commented.

“We brought our white car here for one final shakedown before the National Open at Williams Grove.  That’s really the event we have been preparing this car for all along.  We’ve been battling a brake issue with this car since we first rolled it out of the shop this year, so we want to get that resolved.”

The car was brand new from chassis to engine earlier this year and has shown promise in limited action, but the team has been working to resolve a brake issue on the car.  They have replaced the master brake cylinder, calipers, and other components, with no luck thus far. 

“People wonder how it can so long to resolve an issue like we’re having with the brakes.  There’s a lot of trial and error involved.  These systems are expensive, so you can’t just toss them aside and buy a new one.  You can come up with ideas and make changes in the shop, but troubleshooting really only happens when you are on the track.  If you figure three laps for hot laps, a couple laps for qualifying, ten more for a heat, and a 25-lap feature, our max for a night is about 40 laps…and those are almost all competitive laps.  Something is at stake every time we are trying to figure out the issue,” Ross explained.

Ross turned in a decent performance at Bridgeport, but was still dealing with some brake issues throughout the night.  He qualified 11th overall, finished 4th in his heat, and started 12th in the A-main.  A top-ten finish was certainly within reach.

The brake issue worked against Ross at the start of the A-main, and he fell to 15th in traffic.  Before he could rebound and regain the spots, the rains came and stopped the race after just ten laps.

CAN’T CATCH A ‘BRAKE’

To add to their challenges, upon returning to their shop and performing maintenance on the car to prepare for the coming weekend at Williams Grove, the team discovered a broken valve spring in the engine.  Likely another reason for the slow start in Bridgeport’s finale.

Fortunately, the engine builder was able to make the repairs quickly.  Ross and his team had the powerplant back in the car Thursday night, less than twenty-four hours before the National Open kicked off.

While that was good news, Ross was still fighting brake issues.  The team went over the entire system again and made some changes in hopes of finally eliminating the issue.

Friday night at Williams Grove, Ross timed 9th in his flight and started 5th in his heat.  The top five finishers would transfer directly to the A-main; however, the brake issue hindered Ross, and he slipped to an 8th-place finish.

Ross started on the pole of the B-main and only needed to maintain a top-four spot to advance to the feature, but the struggles continued.  He faded to a 6th-place finish.

“After the heat race, we went back to work on the brakes, but unfortunately, what we did made it worse.  I basically had no brakes at all in the B-main.  It may sound odd, but you can’t get around this place fast without brakes,” Ross explained.

“I knew the car was good, though.  It has a lot of speed in it.  I told my team if we got the brakes figured out, this thing (the white car) was going to be really, really good.”

UNEXPECTED FAVOR

“Leaving the track Friday night, Tyler Esh stopped me.  He recognized that we were having brake issues, so he told me he was going home and taking his Smith Titanium system off of his car to bring to our shop Saturday morning for us to put on our car,” Ross shared.

“I told him I appreciated that a ton.  We had tried everything and just couldn’t figure out the issue with our system.”

The brake system change was completed Saturday, along with the usual maintenance and race day prep, then it was back on the road to Williams Grove once again.

The loaned brake system did the trick.

Ross timed 5th quickest in a stacked flight that included names like Gravel, Kofoid, Dewease, Macedo, Wagaman, Dietrich, Rahmer, Dietz, Scelzi, Pursley, Peck, and more.  He went on to transfer through his heat race and earn the 13th starting spot in the National Open main event.

With 56 quality race teams on hand Saturday, it was no small accomplishment just to make the show, but he held his ground and brought the Bush Auto Group, Fastrak Express Inc., Stateline Truck and Trailer, Stoltzfus Farm Service No.5 home 13th at the end of the 40-lap event.

“Saturday was huge for us.  We haven’t been great at Williams Grove this year.  We put it in the show and had a shot at a top ten finish against this field.  I’m feeling pretty good about what our team accomplished,” a very happy Ross said.

“With the brake issues resolved, I was kinda learning the car all over again in the heat.  Obviously, it has had speed all along, but I can drive it differently with brakes, so we had to make some adjustments after the heat.” 

“I can’t thank Tyler Esh enough for loaning us his Smith Titanium brake system.  It solved our problem and gave us a chance tonight.”

“Rick Ciarrocchi bought this new motor for us this year, specifically because he had a goal of making the National Open.  I’m proud that we checked off that goal for him.”

It was especially satisfying for Ross and his team, not only because of overcoming the brake issue, but because they have been through so much other adversity in 2025 as well.

The team struggled early in the season and made the decision to change shocks mid-season.  They have also had multiple truck issues, making it a challenge to find a way to get to the track at times.

“Everything combined to put a lot of pressure on me and the entire team.  Moral has been down.  Honestly, it was affecting the team to the point we weren’t sure what we were going to do in 2026,” Ross admitted.

“When we thank all the people who support us, it’s not just words.  We are talking about people like Tyler (Esh), Rick (Ciarrocchi), and all the other people who contribute to our program.  If they don’t do what they do for us, we literally would not be here.”

Saturday night took a huge weight off everyone’s shoulders.  I can’t tell you how much that run meant to all of us.”

One race really can make all the difference.

Tyler started his racing career in 2002 in quarter midgets. At the age of 14, he jumped into the 600 micro scene. Testing Emotions and Equipment En Route to Two Track Championships for Lane Snook & Team

With the summer months in the past and wins and points racking up, Lane Snook and his Port Royal, PA team, found themselves in a unique couple of situations. One being that the team had nearly completed another full season with over triple their win total from a year prior. The other one being that they were sitting at the top of two track points battles. Needing to just keep consistency going in the last few limited shows of the year at some Central PA tracks, Snook needed to be focused and manage emotions.

The emotional rollercoaster of the previous few weeks for the young driver was dealing with the disappointment of losing one late at Port Royal and then going back to the top of the mountain and winning at Selinsgrove. More strong emotions would spill out at the final show of the season at Port Royal to kick off September. Coming into the final show of the season at Port, Snook merely needed to qualify and finish the feature. With a quick-time and then a strong heat race finish, Lane would start 3rd and again be in position to win another feature. Quickly rolling into the second spot and rolling right up on the back bumper of the leader, Lane was able to move “to the top to pass the leader and drive away to get the win from there.”

While that may be the only words Lane used to recap that race, more emotions showed in victory lane, as he became the youngest track champion in Port Royal Speedway history. Tears of not only joy and relief were flowing in victory lane as Snook finished off one of two possible track titles, but also, some tears of remembrance, as it was almost 4 years to the day that the Snook family lost Lane’s brother, Mason, during the Tuscarora 50 weekend in 2021. Even with high emotions, the team relished in the victory, but would quickly have to refocus as more work was yet to be done.

With a double dose of Selinsgrove Speedway the following weekend, Snook would not only get to test out the steel block against the supers, but he would also get to continue the pursuit of the limited late model track title. The Super Late Models would start the weekend. With the few races the team was planning to run with the steel block, more so being test sessions, logging laps would be most important. Managing still to start in the 11th spot in the feature, “was up to 7th until I pulled into the pits for the motor running hot,” and that would hand the team a 14th place result.

Heading back to the Selinsgrove ½ mile the following night with the limited, Lane was back in the points battle fight. Having a decent advantage over Andrew Yoder in the limited division, Snook just needed to keep the consistency going. With an average finish of 3rd at Selinsgrove in the limited car, Snook didn’t stray far from that. “We redrew a 5, but were able to get to the lead very quickly.” A late race caution made for an interesting finish as Lane “got slid on the restart, but was able to cross it over and drive away with the win from there.” This win would be bigger than expected, as it would ultimately clinch the points title, as the final points race there on September 26th would be canceled after electrical issues at the facility. Two track titles now secured, but still some more racing to take place.

In the final few races of the month for Snook, another opportunity to test out the steel block on September 19th at Selinsgrove would be up next. It was a Twin 20 features program. Rolling off 13th in the first feature, Lane would begin moving forward before overheating issues again forced the driver to pull off partway through the first feature. Making sure everything was good to go, “the crew went to work before the second feature, we started 17th and drove up to 11th on a rubbered surface.”

Ending out the racing portion of the month, the team would spend the 20th at Bedford Speedway for the Troutman Memorial. Another special race, given the relationship between Drake and Lane. Maybe racing a little motivated after seeing Drake win the modified feature, Snook would roll off 8th in the limited late model feature. “With a very good car, I drove up to second with a few laps to go and caught the leader, then got around him coming to the white flag on a surface that was latching up for the win.”

Checking off another win, Lane would decide to take the final weekend of the month off and go on the road to help Drake and the Team 22 car prepare for a weekend of racing. “We’ve been pretty hard at it, and hopefully it all pays off this weekend for him and for when I get back home.” 

The steel block car will be the priority in the coming month of October, as the team’s main event will be Eldora Speedway for the Dirt Track World Championship. 

“I feel we’ve made some pretty good gains with the steel block. I think if we can put a night together and keep the motor cool, we would be competitive.” Not that forward thinking isn’t important, with more races to come in 2025, but reflecting on what all the preparation and hard work have accomplished for Lane is equally important.

Confidence and preparation have shown all season to be paying off with the multiple wins and now, track titles. Something that wasn’t really a thought at the start. “We never really thought of running for points anywhere until we started running well, and we could make every race at each place towards the end of the season,” said Snook. 

Finishing out two track titles in one year “was definitely pretty cool.” With both of these tracks being part of what has made the teenage racer who he is, it made both titles that much sweeter. “I’ve spent a lot of hours at each place, pretty much growing up at Port, and racing with dad and Trent at Selinsgrove, and also racing karts there as I was growing up.” 

While emotions aren’t something that most racers like to show, it’s evident that this season has been one of special moments and joy for the team. But it isn’t over yet.

As mentioned, the team will shift focus to Eldora during the middle of the month, but not before a local showdown at Path Valley Speedway on October 11th. ABOUT  LANE SNOOK

Lane Snook is a 3rd generation race car driver who is entering his 10th year behind the wheel at the age of 16. After racing go karts for several years, he made the move into the limited late model division in 2023. In 2024 he saw great success in the division, collecting 5 wins at 2 different tracks. In 2025, he will make the move to the super late model division while still competing part time in his limited late model.

How Scaling Back in 2025 Allowed Austin Berry Racing to Refocus and Regain Momentum

At the end of 2024, when Austin Berry made the decision to scale back his schedule in 2025 so he could make sure personal priorities and racing budgets all fit together and result in a better long-term situation, he did so because he felt it was a better option than shutting down the race team completely for a year.

“The advancements in this sport are nonstop.  If you don’t stay in the game, you fall behind, and it takes a long time to catch up.  We considered taking a break for a season to focus on building our house and saving some money in the racing budget.  I felt we would fall behind if we did that, so we agreed on a scaled-back schedule so that we could keep up,” Berry explained.

WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER

Skipping 2025 would have meant significant savings in tires, parts, and fuel, not to mention eliminating an engine refresh bill.  

It turned out Berry’s decision was more right than he even thought it would be.  Not only did Austin Berry Racing keep up, they gained ground.  From Berry’s perspective, which is shared by folks outside the team as well, the team improved more during their limited 2025 schedule than they had in 2023 and 2024 combined.

Berry competed in eleven super late model events in his family’s Tuscarora Restoration, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, Dye It Rite, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels No.86, and six limited late model events during the 2025 season, the latter in the seat of the Bobby Dunn Racing No.34D.

“Racing in two different divisions at several different tracks, and getting a lot of laps at some places I didn’t have a lot of laps at before, like Bedford, made me a lot better behind the wheel,” Berry shared.

“I got a lot better at reacting to the car instead of basically memorizing how I thought I should drive the car at a particular track.  I learned to do different things in the seat and race the car, not the track.”

What Berry learned behind the wheel had a positive ripple effect in the pits, too, as he was able to give better feedback to his team to help make setup decisions.

Berry’s improvements were noticeable statistically.  He qualified much better against the clock than in recent years, and he scored three top ten finishes in his last six super late model races.  In the limited late model, he finished 11th or better in five of his six main events.

“In the super late model, the tone for the whole night is set by qualifying, so that’s what we have been focusing a lot of our energy on,” Berry said.

“That focus, combined with a lot more laps at some tracks than we have had before, paid off.  Look at Bedford Speedway’s Labor Day 55, for example.  I have never made that race before, despite trying several times.  This year, we came to Bedford several times, got a better notebook, and made the show through our heat race.”

“Those are the kind of things you have to measure progress by.  Progress isn’t just measured by wins.  It’s a building block process to keep getting better and better.  You celebrate achievements like that because you know they show what you are doing is working.”

Berry says expanding the team’s network of resources and people to lean on, and leveraging those things more frequently than in the past, was a big part of their improvements, too.

“I talked to the guys at Rocket Chassis a lot, plus our crew chief, Josh, was communicating with our partners at Penske Shocks almost every day.  Then we would talk within the team, sharing information and ideas as well.  We had more information, but yet we actually simplified things overall, which helped keep our decisions more in line week to week.  It kept us from straying away from what we knew,” Berry explained.

On the budget front, 2025 has to be considered a win as well.  Berry’s scaled-back schedule put few enough laps on their Cornette engine that a refresh will not be needed over the coming offseason, plus the team’s fuel, tires, and parts schedules were greatly reduced as well.

DOWN THE ROAD

Berry’s primary goal for 2026 is a pretty straightforward one.

“We want to get back to being a staple at local super late model races, so people aren’t wondering if we will be there,” Berry said.

“My wife and I had put off building our home for a few years, but this year we tackled that project, and it’s almost finished.  With that done, I will be able to go into next season with a clearer mind,” Berry said.

Not only that, but he’ll go into next season with a brand new, larger race shop, too.  The new shop, which is attached to the new house, was a part of that construction project.  The race shop will be the last part of the build to be completed, but the team will race out of that shop in 2026. 

Even though the on-track portion of the 2025 racing season is over for Berry, he never loses focus on taking care of his marketing partners.  The promotions continue, and attention to those relationships requires effort year-round.

Austin Berry Racing is also interested in working with new partners who are interested in having the team represent their business and promote their products and/or services during the 2026 season.

Berry also noted the team is looking to increase its equipment depth for 2026.  The goal is to have two rolling cars ready by summer.

“With what we saved on a motor refresh, and hopefully if we have a good 2026 kickoff fundraiser party, we will have enough to pick up a new chassis and make that our primary car,” Berry shared.

The team’s current Rocket XR1 would become a backup car.  

Beyond 2026, the team would like to add a second powerplant, which could be another super motor, or they might choose to add a crate motor to use in the second car.

“What our second motor might be will be something we decide down the road.  A crate motor would give us more opportunities to race, but having a backup for our super would be valuable too, of course,” Berry added.

Berry would like to do more traveling in the coming year or two.  The team upgraded their toter situation after the 2024 season as step one toward that goal.  They did so by selling the truck they had been using for many years and acquiring a larger pre-owned one.  

Another upgrade that would be key to traveling more is a larger trailer, which is something Berry hopes the team can acquire within three years.

“I would really like to venture out to some races outside our region.  There are some good-paying races that would make it justifiable for us to travel, plus I just have some races on my bucket list that I want to check off before I hang up my helmet.  Not that I’m planning on going anywhere soon, but you never know how long anything will last, so I want to work toward getting to some of these races in the next few years,” Berry commented.

PARTY TIME

The fan-favorite Austin Berry Racing season kickoff party will return for 2026.  It will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.  Tickets are on sale now, and fans can contact the team through social media for advance ticket purchases.  Those in attendance are treated to a great meal, raffles, and games throughout the evening, plus music and dancing after dinner.

The team held very popular and successful parties in 2023 and 2024 with nearly 300 people attending each year.  The team opted to skip the party in 2025.

“We were forced to sit out the entire second half of 2024 after an engine failure, and I just didn’t feel right having the party last year after our fans had been so generous at the 2024 kickoff, then we ended up not being able to race as much as we had planned,” Berry explained.

“We sure have had a lot of people ask about it, though, so we are looking forward to hanging out with everyone and having a good time again in January!”

J Fuels and NinetyFive Motorsports to Honor Fallen Northern York County Officers at National Open

J Fuels, in collaboration with NinetyFive Motorsports, is announcing a tribute in memory of fallen officers Detective Mark Baker, Detective Sgt. Cody Becker, and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser, who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty on September 17, 2025, in York County, Pennsylvania.  All three men were members of the Northern York County Regional Police Department.

Two other officers were wounded during the incident and are recovering from their injuries.  One of the two officers wounded in the September 17, 2025, ambush in York County, PA, was a detective from the Northern York County Regional Police Department. The other was Lieutenant David Godfrey, a deputy with the York County Sheriff’s Office. The two wounded officers, along with three detectives who were killed, were shot while serving a warrant in North Codorus Township.

J Fuels and NinetyFive Motorsports will feature a commemorative wing on the team’s No.95 sprint car during the National Open at Williams Grove Speedway on October 3rd and 4th, 2025.  The right side wing panel will carry the emblem of the Northern York County Regional Police Department.  The left side wing panel will carry the logo of the York County Sheriff’s Office.

“Sadly, our community has been affected by another tragedy,” Jimmy O’Brien, owner of J Fuels, shared, referring to the most recent incident in addition to the loss of Patrolman Andrew Duarte earlier this year in an active shooter incident at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, PA, on February 22, 2025.

“My wife and I are community-minded people, and that’s how we run our business as well.  We are a part of this community, and we sincerely feel compelled to help in times of need.  Similar to how we did our best to help when Patrolman Duarte was taken from us too soon, we want to partner with NinetyFive Motorsports to pay tribute to these men who served our community.  

O’Brien’s goal is to use the race team to raise funds to donate to the Northern York County Regional Police Department.  The funds raised will go to the “Honor Their Service” portal, which supports the families of the three fallen officers and both injured officers affected by this tragedy.

J Fuels and NinetyFive Motorsports will offer chances to win the tribute wing panels from the team’s race car in exchange for donations.

“I am sincerely grateful to everyone who is helping us with this tribute to honor these men,” O’Brien shared.

“I want to thank Brewer Home Improvements, Addicted2Dirt PR, and SpeedComm for jumping in to help.” 

A donation of $5 is required for one chance, or five chances can be earned for a $20 donation.  All donations will go to the Northern York County Regional Police Department’s “Honor Their Service” portal.   Donations for chances at the wing panels will be collected through October 11, 2025.

Two winners will be chosen on October 12th.  The first winner selected will get their choice between the two wing panels.  The second winner will receive the remaining wing panel.

The wing panels can be delivered to the winners within a 1-hour radius of York, PA, at no additional cost. Given that the wing will be used during races, its condition isn’t guaranteed.

To donate and get chances to win a wing panel, fans should visit the NinetyFive Motorsports merchandise trailer in the infield at Williams Grove Speedway during the National Open event on October 3rd and 4th.  Jimmy and Jessica O’Brien of J Fuels will be at the team’s merchandise trailer both nights to assist fans.

In addition to the in-person option at the merchandise trailer, those interested in donating to the cause for a chance to win one of the two tribute wing panels can do so via any of the following methods.  Name and phone number must be provided via all methods.

Steadying the Ship: Kody Hartlaub Closing in on Being Consistent Contender

Kody Hartlaub felt like his second career 410 sprint car win was within reach last Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.

He had good reason to feel that way.  He timed 5th quickest overall, then led every lap in his heat race, winning by over 2.3 seconds, to earn the pole for the A-main.

Hartlaub led 19 laps, but unfortunately, bad luck intervened.

“That one stings.  A bolt came out of the brake pedal on lap 2, and I had no brakes. I feel so bad for my guys and my sponsors. I feel we had that one,” a disappointed Hartlaub explained.

“I was able to hang on to the top spot for most of the race, but the lack of brakes became extremely challenging. I tried my hardest to race the car to maintain as much speed as possible, but unfortunately, we dropped a few spots and ended up 5th.”

LEARNING FROM CHALLENGES

Coming off his first career 410 sprint car win six weeks ago, Hartlaub was feeling good about his team’s growth and progression through the 2025 season. 

Hartlaub was inching closer to that moment for several races.  The Williams Grove victory gave the East Berlin (PA) driver an average finishing position of 6.75 over a four-race stretch, a significant improvement over his average finish of 16th in the four races before that stretch.

With the Central Pennsylvania season heading into the home stretch, this was the timely momentum Harlaub, team owner Pat Brewer, and the entire NinetyFive Motorsports team needed.

The showing this past Friday certainly proves Hartlaub’s win in August was not a fluke, and it also shows the team can work through challenges and find their rhythm again.

The weekend after that August 15th win, Hartlaub kept the momentum going with two more top ten finishes at Williams Grove Speedway’s Jack Gunn Memorial and Lincoln Speedway’s Kramer Klash.  However, the final weekend of August brought challenges and frustrating nights for Hartlaub and his team, who finished outside the top ten twice and failed to make the starting field once.

Hartlaub, Brewer, and the NinetyFive Motorsports team are well aware you can’t rest on your laurels in sprint car racing.  What works today may not work tomorrow.  It is a constant battle to find the combination needed to be competitive every time a team unloads.

“Some of the things we tried Labor Day weekend didn’t work like we had hoped, but that’s what you have to do in this sport.  You have to constantly work to get better, but sometimes you learn the most from the things that don’t work,” Hartlaub explained.

“We took a week off at the beginning of September, and we worked on the changes we felt we needed to make to get our speed back.  It felt good to see that pay off by getting back in the top ten at Williams Grove.”

Hartlaub was referring to the team’s effort back on September 12th, where he recorded a runner-up finish in his heat race and a 6th-place finish in the feature.

The following night at Lincoln Speedway, Hartlaub struggled, dropping out of the main event at the halfway point due to an ill-handling racecar, once again proving that what worked yesterday may not work today.  The team went back to work that week to get ready for Williams Grove, and we now know they bounced back strong and nearly captured another win.

It’s an ongoing battle for every team in sprint car racing, a roller-coaster ride if you will, but when a team overcomes those challenges and achieves success, there’s nothing quite like that feeling of satisfaction.  It’s only a matter of time until Hartlaub feels that again.

UP NEXT

Hartlaub and the NinetyFive Motorsports team will return to Williams Grove Speedway Friday night for the final tuneup before the National Open.  Saturday night, they will venture to Bridgeport Motorsports Park in Swedesboro, NJ, to take on the High Limit Racing series on the high-banked 4-tenths mile oval.

ABOUT  KODY HARTLAUB

Kody started racing go-karts in 2005. Over five seasons he won championships at Hunterstown and Shippensburg, and finished 2nd in the PA State series. Following the 2009 season, he moved up to race 600 micro sprints on a limited basis, but then spent a few years away from the sport. In late 2015 Kody tested in a 358 sprint car and started a partial schedule in 2016. In 2018, he raced the majority of the season but then sat out again in 2019. He returned to 358 sprints in 2020 on a very limited schedule, then in 2021 he was able to complete his first full season at Lincoln Speedway.
