New Name, Same Legacy: Sprint Car Wing Maker Preserves Family Tradition

Ephrata, PA – May 22, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Roach Wings, a well-known provider of top and front wings for sprint cars and micros, has been acquired by the Defibaugh family. The Defibaugh family, consisting of Kyle Defibaugh, Jeff Defibaugh, and Brittany Defibaugh, is excited to announce their new venture into the racing business with the purchase of Roach Wings.

The decision to acquire Roach Wings was driven by the Defibaugh family’s passion for racing and their desire to own a business in the racing industry. The opportunity arose when the owners of Roach Wings, Jeff and Steve Cochran, decided to retire after 40 years in the business. The Cochrans are pleased to see the business continue under new ownership while maintaining its commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

“We are thrilled to be taking over Roach Wings and continuing the legacy that Jeff and Steve Cochran have built,” said Kyle Defibaugh. “We have been involved in racing for many years, and this acquisition allows us to combine our passion for the sport with our business knowledge.”

Roach Wings have been custom-made by hand since the beginning. Jeff and Steve Cochran grew up making furniture with their dad, all handmade. He also built houses, as did their grandfather and great-grandfather, both of whom were engineers who held multiple patents.  Good old-fashioned ‘know-how’ runs deep in their family.  Their cousins work for water flow and stress analysis engineering firms.

The sprint car wings the brothers make today are crafted using some of the equipment that has been in their family for generations. That equipment was even used back in WWI to make airplanes.

The Defibaugh family has a deep-rooted involvement in the sport of sprint car racing. Kyle has logged 16 years turning wrenches, while his father Jeff Defibaugh has 36 years of extensive experience working on sprint cars.  Those years are at the root of their commitment and drive to continue to be an integral part of the sport.

Currently, Kyle serves as the crew chief for Jeff Halligan’s Risser Motorsports 410 sprint car team.  He has been at Halligan’s side for most of 11 years but has been hands-on in the sport since 2008.

Jeff Defibaugh has helped on micros and sprint cars for many teams over the years, including Steve Owings, Cliff Brian, and future son-in-law Tyler Ulrich.

Kyle’s sister, Brittany, has also been around the sport for many years, although not as hands-on.

“This will be a way for me to be closer to the sport, my brother, and my dad. I’m a full-time registered nurse but I will handle the parts and office aspects of the business.”, added Brittany Defibaugh.

As part of the acquisition, Roach Wings will be rebranded as HighDef Wings. The new name reflects the Defibaugh family’s commitment to maintaining the high quality and standards that Roach Wings is known for. The Defibaugh family plans to continue producing wings for sprint cars and micros, using the same handcrafted techniques that Roach Wings is renowned for.

“We are dedicated to continuing the legacy of Roach Wings and providing our customers with the same top-notch products and service that they have come to expect,” said Jeff Defibaugh. “We look forward to serving the racing community for many years to come.  We have known Jeff and Steve Cochran for many, many years.  We are proud to carry what they have built into the future.  We won’t let them or our customers down.”

The many aspects of the transition, everything from knowledge transfer to moving the shop, are in progress.  The full transition is targeted to be completed this summer.

It’s important to note that even after the Defibaugh family takes over, the Cochran’s will remain involved for support, ongoing training, and yes admittedly because they love it.

“We can use the help!”, Kyle Defibaugh said with a chuckle.  “They are welcome anytime and always will be.”

HighDef Wings will continue to serve its existing customer base, which includes several top teams.  The Defibaugh family is excited about the opportunity to work closely with these drivers and provide them with the wings they need to succeed on the track.

For more information about HighDef Wings, please call Kyle Defibaugh at 717-606-3377 or Jeff Defibaugh at 717-598-6978.

Feathers Sees Victory Slip Away at Port Royal on Double-Duty Night

Port Royal, PA – May 21, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit: Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

Trever Feathers has been upfront all season long, regardless of whether he straps into the McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.20 super late model or the No.27 limited late model.

The lone exception was the difficult weekend his last time out at the end of April.  That weekend things just didn’t go very well in either car.

Feathers was back in action with both cars and looking to rebound last weekend at Port Royal Speedway while pulling double-duty.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  May 18, 2024

  • Class:  Super Late Model
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  33 cars, Qualifying 3rd; Heat 2nd (4), A-main 2nd (4)

DATE:  May 18, 2024

  • Class:  Limited Late Model
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  15 cars, Heat 2nd (4), A-main 8th (1)

STEADY STEEL BLOCK

In limited late model division, Feathers was definitely back on track from the start.  He drove from 4th to 2nd in his heat race and earned the pole for the 20-lap main event.

Feathers’ only miss of the night with his No.27 steel block was his feature setup.  He slipped back to an 8th-place finish.

“I missed the setup or feature with this car (the limited).  It was really good in the heat, so I didn’t think it needed much  When you’re running two cars, the super (late model) is the priority, so we worked on that car first.  I probably should have made some adjustments but opted not to.”, Feathers shared.

TWO TURNS AWAY

Feathers’ focus was rightfully on the super late model given there was $5,000 on the line for the winner of the Spring Championship feature.

Time trials were used to qualify the highly competitive 33-car field and set heat race lineups.  Feathers went out late but registered the 3rd quickest lap in the field, a mere 0.081 seconds off quick time.

The inversion put Feathers outside row two for his heat race.  Just past the halfway point of the 8-lap qualifier, he raced his way into the runner-up spot and held on to finish there.

In the 25-lap finale, Feathers once again started outside row two but this time used a bold move into turn one to split the front row starters.  The Winchester, VA native drove up the middle past the flag stand, then moved to the high side of the speedway in turn two to pull even for the lead down the backstretch.

When the field reached the start/finish line to complete the opening lap, it was Feathers leading the way.  He remained at the front of the field for the next twenty circuits, enduring several restarts but managing to keep the competition at bay.

With four laps remaining, the final caution of the event appeared.  On the ensuing restart, Feathers again took command with Dylan Yoder and Colton Flinner battling for second.  Flinner claimed the spot and came after Feathers on the final lap, squeezing alongside and making contact on the low side of turn 3.

When the pair emerged off turn four and came to the line they were nose to tail, with Feathers finishing second.

“The cautions hurt us.  Our American Racer tires fired off great but after all the cautions what we really needed was a long green flag run.”, Feathers commented.

“We had good speed all night.  We timed well and raced well.  Overall I’m happy.  I just don’t race people the way we got raced there on the last lap.  Wanted to come out of here with the win but I’m not going to do it that way.  I probably should have stuck to my line in (turns) one and two, then protected at the other end.”

UP NEXT

Feathers will have a busy Memorial Day Weekend ahead.  Tentatively the team may head to Bedford Speedway Friday, May 24th for the $4,000-to-win Turk Burket Tribute.

Saturday night May 25th Feathers will return to Port Royal Speedway where the super late models will compete alongside the High Limit Sprint Cars on Fallen Heroes Championship Night.

Sunday May 26th will bring a trip to Potomac Speedway in Mechanicsville, MD for the $3,022-to-win Ernie Jones Memorial super late model event.

Reinhardt Salvages Upside Down Night at The Grove, Three Outlaw Dates Up Next

York Haven, PA – May 6, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Reinhardt put a new car together last week in preparation for the upcoming World of Outlaws swing through Pennsylvania.  Friday at Williams Grove Speedway and Saturday at Lincoln Speedway would provide two opportunities to shake it down and dial it in before the invasion.

Sometimes things don’t go as planned, but that doesn’t mean you can’t accomplish your goals in the end.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  May 3, 2024

  • Event:  Outlaw Tuneup
  • Division:  410 Sprint Cars
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Stats:  31 cars, Qualifying – No Time, Heat 7th (11), A-main 14th (21)

UNPLANNED TEAMWORK

Friday night at Williams Grove got off to a tough start for Reinhardt when he got upside down before getting a qualifying lap in the books.  He quickly crawled out unharmed and began assessing the damage.

Reinhardt and his team, along with help from Tyler Ross, Danny Dietrich and Ryan Taylor, thrashed all around the Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Capitol Renegade, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91.  They needed to be ready for heat race number one and they got it done.  In less than 30 minutes it was race-ready again.

There were 31 cars on hand Friday night.  With the top six finishers from each heat transferring to the feature, Reinhardt had his work cut out for him from the 11th starting spot.  He came close, racing up to 7th.

While he didn’t transfer, the effort put him in a solid spot for the B-main.  He started and finished 3rd to clear the first hurdle, making the show.

Reinhardt quickly moved forward in the 25-lap A-main, advancing from 21st to 16th during the opening laps, and went on to work his way to 14th by the time the checkers fell on the event.

“Obviously it was an unfortunate event to crash in time trials but we were able to get it back together and salvage the night.  Thanks to my guys, Tyler Ross, Ryan Taylor, and DD for lending a hand.“, Reinhardt said of the eventful night.

UP NEXT

Reinhardt will take on the World of Outlaws three times in the coming week in Central Pennsylvania.  Wednesday, May 8th he will enter the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway.

The Capitol Renegade team will then move 30 minutes north to Williams Grove Speedway for the two-day Morgan Cup battle between the Pennsylvania Posse and the traveling series.

Tony Jackson and Scott Hess Racing Earn First 410 Sprint Car Top-15 Finish with First World of Outlaws Starts on the Horizon

Abbottstown, PA – May 6, 2024

by Justin Snyder / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

Tony Jackson and Scott Hess Racing scored a career-best 15th-place finish in 410 Sprint Car competition as part of the World of Outlaws Tune-Up at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night.

“We left the track feeling pretty good and it’s a nice feeling to be talking about moving forward and getting results,” said Jackson. “We’ve been talking a lot about top 15 finishes, and this is a step in the right direction for us as a team.”

Jackson kicked off the night by timing 23rd quickest in qualifying among 31 cars in attendance with a fastest lap of 17.483 seconds. As a result, he lined up eighth in a heat race, where he advanced one position to finish in seventh.

“We were tight in time trials, but I think maybe it was me and the line I drove and not so much the setup,” said Jackson. “You need to be fast off the trailer with these Outlaw-type races, so we didn’t help ourselves there much.”

Needing to compete in a B-main to qualify for the feature, Jackson finished where he started – fourth. As a result, he secured the 22nd starting position for the night’s $6,000 to-win feature event.

With 25 laps at his expense, Jackson meticulously worked through traffic to advance seven positions throughout the duration of the A-main. As a result, he crossed under the checkered flag in the 15th position.

“We had some help with attrition, but we passed a few guys, and we learned a lot competing with a good field of cars,” he said. “The biggest thing we were able to do was to maintain throughout the night and that makes a big difference when you’re not having to overcome so much on the track.”

Next up for the duo will be a pair of World of Outlaws starts on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA, and Friday at Williams Grove Speedway. Depending on how things go in these two events, the team may return on Saturday for the finale at ‘The Grove.’

Riding some positive momentum into the week, Jackson is optimistic about their chances to qualify for the shows and is looking forward to the ability to learn against the best the sport has to offer.

“We’re still a bit out of our league in terms of the competition, but ultimately we’re going to try and gain experience and see where we stack up,” said Jackson. “I’ve spent a lot of time sitting in the stands watching the Outlaws and even worked on a few cars that have competed with them and I don’t know that I ever thought I’d be in this position with the opportunity to race with them. So, for the first crack at things, I’m going to soak it in a bit and just go out and do my best and hopefully we can get an A-main start or two.”

WEEKEND RESULTS

May 3 – Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA – Qualifying: 23; Heat race: 7 (8); B-Main: 4 (4); Feature: 15 (22).

Trever Feathers Endures Difficult Weekend at Georgetown and Natural Bridge

Port Royal, PA – May 2, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Trever Feathers has had speed this season regardless of which of his cars he straps into, the McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, George’s Used Cars, Martin’s Pumping, North River Farm, Feathers & Son’s Roofing, Leggett Engine Research, Coffelt Graphics, Shane McDowell Racing, Fox Racing Shox No.20 super late model or No.27 limited late model.

He has a win, top fives, and top tens to his credit thus far.  He has also had some bad luck, like the blown tire while leading a super late model race at Georgetown Speedway last month.

With another super race at Georgetown (DE) and a limited race at Natural Bridge (VA) on the schedule last weekend, the question heading into it was which side of the ledger he would add to.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  April 26, 2024

  • Class:  Super Late Model (Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series)
  • Track:  Georgetown Speedway
  • City, State:   Georgetown, DE
  • Quick Stats:  40 cars, Group 1 Qualifying 17th; Heat 10th (9), B-main DNS

DATE:  April 27, 2024

  • Class:  Limited Late Model (Steel Block Bandits Dirt Late Model Challenge)
  • Track:  Natural Bridge Speedway
  • City, State:   Natural Bridge, VA
  • Quick Stats:  32cars, Group B Qualifying 5th; Heat 3rd (3), A-main 13th (10)

WELL #$^&!

Going into the weekend, Feathers has recorded finishes of 3rd and 4th in his super late model.  In the limited late model, he had a victory and a top ten.

Unfortunately, the trend didn’t continue at Georgetown Speedway against the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Friday night.  With 40 cars on hand, Feathers had issues in qualifying and turned in a disappointing 17th-best lap in his group.

Things didn’t improve during his heat race.  Feathers dropped out and was recorded as finishing 10th.  His night ended there.

“We sucked tonight.”, Feathers commented.  “Not any other way to say it.”

“The good news is I think we figured something out tonight.  We need to change how we approach this place (Georgetown).  We will find out next time we are back here.”

IF IT WASN'T FOR BAD LUCK...

Saturday night Feathers headed South from his shop in Winchester, VA down Interstate 81 to Natural Bridge Speedway to take on the Still Block Bandits Series with his limited late model.

Feathers put the 5th quickest lap in Group B on the books, a solid start to the night against 31 other teams.  A 3rd place run in his heat race gave him a 10th-place starting spot in the $ 5,000-to-win main event.

At the start of the 50-lap affair, Feathers immediately claimed 8th and held that for nearly twenty laps.  At the halfway mark he had advanced to 6th and was looking to crack the top five.

His engine had other ideas.  Issues with fifteen laps remaining ended the night for Feathers.  He was officially credited with 13th at the conclusion of the race.

“We had a top-five car tonight, maybe a podium.  This Team Zero car has been awesome since we got it.  One of the best-handling cars I have ever had.  It’s tough having issues two races in a row while we were running near the front.”

UP NEXT

Feathers is waiting for word on his limited late model engine before making a final decision about this weekend’s plans.  The options are Hagerstown Speedway with his No.27 limited late model or Port Royal Speedway with his No.20 super late model.

Follow Trever’s social media outlets (@tfeathersracing on most platforms) for schedule updates to come later this week!

SEASON STATS

Super Late Model:  3 races, 0 wins, 2 top 5’s, 2 top 10’s, 2 top 15’s

Limited Late Model:  3 races, 1 win, 1 top 5’s, 2 top 10’s, 3 top 15’s

Kody Hartlaub Posts Strong Sterner Memorial Run at Lincoln, Closes April With Trips to Williams Grove and Port Royal

Port Royal, PA – May 2, 2024

It’s no secret that Kody Hartlaub has more laps in a sprint car at Lincoln Speedway than anywhere else.  He has had plenty of success there, including wins and a championship in the 358 division.  In his young 410 sprint car career, he has posted strong qualifying and race results there as well.

Despite having fewer laps at places like BAPS Motor Speedway, Williams Grove Speedway, and Port Royal Speedway, the East Berlin, PA resident has shown flashes of speed and ability at those facilities too.

Hartlaub is focusing on seat time with a dash of variety in his destinations in 2024 as he tries to build a notebook, both for himself and his equipment, that will set up him to be a consistent contender in the years to come.

BIG TEST AT HOME

The lucrative Weldon Sterner Memorial brought a high-quality field of 32 cars to Hartlaub’s home track, Lincoln Speedway.  It would serve as an early measuring stick.

Hartlaub was up to the task from the start.  He turned the 3rd quickest lap in his group in qualifying and backed it up with a 2nd place run in his heat race to earn a top ten starting spot in the biggest race of the season thus far in Central Pennsylvania.

In the 40-lap main event, Hartlaub eyed his first top-ten finish of the season but in the early going he faded back to 14th.  During the closing stages of the race he battled back, claiming an 11th place finish at the checkered flag.

Although a top-ten finish would have looked better on paper, it was a strong night for Hartlaub against a very tough field that included a lot of veteran drivers.  It was a good night for the team’s notebook.

BRANCHING OUT

Hartlaub kicked off last weekend at Williams Grove Speedway where he qualified 6th fastest in his group, then recorded a 5th place finish in his heat race to put the Brewer Home Improvements, J Fuels, MooseBlocks.com, Bigham Appraisal, Griffith Plumbing Services, T and N Solutions No.95 in the show.

From his 18th starting spot, Hartlaub moved forward to a 15th-place finish in the 25-lap A-main.

The Ninety Five Motorsports team planned to compete at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night but when the track canceled due to weather, the decision was made to head to Port Royal Speedway for the first time in 2024 to begin collecting notes and experience.

The Keith Kauffman Classic attracted 35 teams to compete for an attractive purse.  Hartlaub had been to The Speed Palace in 2023 at the wheel of Bill Rose’s No.6 sprint car for the World of Outlaws event there but it was the first time circling the big fairgrounds oval in his own No.95.

He wasted no time showing he could adapt. Hartlaub spun off the 7th quickest lap in Flight A during qualifying, then brought home a 3rd place finish in a competitive heat race.

The early evening effort provided Hartlaub with a solid starting spot for the event, inside row six.  He raced just outside the top ten during the first third of the 30-lap race but during a red flag for a mid-race incident, Hartlaub’s left rear tire was ignited by flames projecting from his header pipe.

The fire was quickly extinguished but the issue brought an early end to his night.

Hartlaub summed up not only his weekend but probably his whole season so far in one statement.

“We just need to put a whole night together.”, he said.

The stats align with that statement.

“We have had good speed and/or good luck during part of every night out this year, but there’s always one point in the night where either we make the wrong decision, I make a mistake, or luck just doesn’t fall our way.”,  Hartlaub continued.

“That’s racing, but the more experience we get the more of those moments we can eliminate or overcome.  We are out here to finish up front and to win races.  We are making races and giving ourselves a chance to progress.  I’m happy with our effort and gains so far.  It’s still early, there’s a lot of racing to do this year.”

VALUED PARTNER

Hartlaub expressed a huge thanks to partner Bigham Appraisals, who have stepped up to make sure the team has the resources they need to run both upcoming World of Outlaws shows at Williams Grove Speedway May 10th-11th.

“We couldn’t do this without partners like Bigham Appraisals.  We greatly appreciate what they have done for us not only for the entire 2024 season and then stepping up with more to make sure we can compete with the Outlaws.”, Hartlaub said.

UP NEXT

Hartlaub’s focus will turn aimed at Lincoln Speedway for the upcoming week.  Saturday night May 4th he will be in attendance there for the Outlaw tune-up event, then just four days later he will return to compete against the World of Outlaws at his home track.

Kyle Keen Making Strides in the Seat, Makes Third Straight Main Event

Port Royal, PA – May 1, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

Kyle Keen’s name may not be appearing in the headlines or the top-ten rundown in 410 sprint car results yet, but he is quietly making big strides, which are likely mostly invisible to race fans.

Friday night he unloaded at Williams Grove Speedway, looking to make his 3rd consecutive A-main.  That’s not necessarily a ‘gimme’ in Central PA when you are up against 30-40 cars every night for one of those coveted 24 starting spots.

QUICK RESULTS

DATE:  April 26, 2024

  • Division:  410 Sprint Cars
  • Track:  Williams Grove Speedway
  • City, State:   Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Stats:  31 cars, Group 1 Qualifying 7th, Heat 5th (5), A-main 21st (17)

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES ARE EVERYWHERE

Keen started his night at The Grove with a subpar qualifying run, putting him 7th in his eight-car group.  However, he quickly proved it’s not all about qualifying.

The Carlisle, PA native raced to a 5th place finish in his heat race to secure the final transfer position into the night’s 25-lap finale.   For Keen, it was his third consecutive A-main, which notably have come at three different tracks.  That is a positive sign.

At this stage of his young 410 sprint car career, every main event means an extra 25 to 30 laps of seat time.  That is valuable experience.  Not only does it allow the driver to learn what works and what doesn’t concerning his driving and his car’s setup, but he also gets to learn from those around him.  Even getting lapped has its benefits if you are paying attention.  Getting to watch how Danny Dietrich or Anthony Macri wheel their machines in front of you can be very valuable.

Keen raced inside the top twenty through the midpoint of Friday’s feature event, then slipped backward a few spots.  He eventually recovered some track position to finish 21st officially.

“It never looks good on paper that we went backward, but we made pretty large gains on our feature setup that made us a lot more competitive and more up to race speed.”, Keen shared.

“We didn’t just give up spots but guys had to race us to get by. I was happy with how much better the car felt but we still have work to do. For only our second time in a 410 at the grove, I was pleased with our performance. We will keep working hard to start moving forward!”

UP NEXT

Keen will bring his 410 sprint car to Williams Grove Speedway once again on Friday night May 3rd.  The team will make a decision later this week about heading to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night.

Tony Jackson and Scott Hess Racing Continue Learning Experience in the 410 Sprint Car Ranks with Three-Race Weekend

Abbottstown, PA – April 30, 2024

by Justin Snyder / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

Tony Jackson and Scott Hess Racing competed in three nights of racing last weekend and together they qualified for two out of three A-main events. Jackson scored finishes of 18th at BAPS Motor Speedway and 20th at Williams Grove Speedway. He failed to qualify at Port Royal Speedway.

“I wish we had more to talk about, but we’re just in a spot where we’re learning and growing,” said Jackson. “I’m used to running up front and winning races, so it can weigh on you when results are not there. But everyone keeps reminding me that this is part of the learning process and I can see we’re getting better each weekend we get out.”

Jackson kicked off the weekend on Friday at Williams Grove where he advanced to the A-main directly out of a heat race with a fifth-place finish. As a result, he lined up 20th on the grid and that’s where he would finish as well.

“I think we raced better than the results show, but unfortunately we got lapped on that first long run and it doesn’t show,” said Jackson. “We passed a lot of cars, but overall, it’s not going to show that in the books.”

Mother Nature canceled a planned trip to BAPS Motor Speedway on Saturday before it got started, so Jackson and Hess made the decision to head to Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, PA for their first-ever 410 Sprint Car start at the Speed Palace.

He was 11th quickest in group warmups before finishing eighth in a heat race. As a result, he was regulated to the B-main, where he finished 11th and failed to qualify for the feature. While the results were not what he hoped for, it was a positive learning experience for Jackson as he continues to grow behind the wheel of a 410 Sprint Car.

“We’ve been wanting to get to Port Royal, but we didn’t exactly need to get there when the track was as fast as it was,” said Jackson. “But overall, I think racing on a track like that really taught me a lot and made us better on Sunday.”

Jackson and Hess closed out the weekend with a Sunday trip to BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, PA. After timing in 2nd quickest in group time trials, Jackson locked into the A-main with a fifth-place finish in a heat race. He then finished where he started – 18th – in the A-main to score his sixth top-20 finish of the season.

“We qualified really well, and I think the credit for that might go to Port Royal and just getting used to going faster,” he said. “We overcorrected a bit for the feature in terms of setup and ultimately, we came home with another top 20 finish.”

Jackson and Hess will take part in two Sprint Car events this weekend with stops at Williams Grove on Friday and Lincoln on Saturday.

“We’re at a spot now where we feel like we should start clicking off top 15 finishes and I’m hopeful to maybe be able to show that this weekend,” he said. “The Outlaws are coming up and that weekend is kind of up in the air as we don’t want to go out there and just make laps if we don’t feel we can qualify and run well. So this weekend will be a good measuring stick for us to kind of decide what next weekend looks like and we’ll give it our best.”

WEEKEND RESULTS

April 26 – Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA – Heat race: 5 (2); Feature: 20 (20).

Kyle Reinhardt Searching for Consistency Ahead of Outlaw Invasion

York Haven, PA – April 30, 2024

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

Kyle Reinhardt entered the weekend coming off of a top-ten finish at Lincoln Speedway’s Weldon Sterner Memorial, his best run of the young season.  The goal was to carry that into Port Royal Speedway’s Keith Kauffman Classic, then on to BAPS Motor Speedway.

Establishing consistent performance would be critical with World of Outlaws events just over the horizon.

DATE:  April 28, 2024

  • Division:  410 Sprint Cars
  • Track:  BAPS Motor Speedway
  • City, State:   York Haven, PA
  • Stats:  35 cars, Group 4 Qualifying 2nd, Heat 3rd (3), A-main DNF/20th (12)

SEARCHING FOR CONSISTENCY

Reinhardt kicked off his weekend Saturday night with his first Port Royal Speedway appearance of the season.  His qualifying lap of 15.474 on the lightning-fast surface put him 10th in Group A.

A 5th place finish in his heat race put Reinhardt 18th on the grid for the 30-lap main event, which played out as a story of survival.

Reinhardt was able to avoid multiple crashes during the finale, climbing to a 13th-place finish when the checkered flag fell.

On Sunday, Reinhardt and his team moved down the road to BAPS Motor Speedway where he had numerous top-ten finishes last season.  In two starts this season, he had not been able to mirror those results, but things appeared to be looking up when he timed 2nd quickest in his group.

Reinhardt started and finished 3rd in his heat race, which put him outside row six to take the green in the 30-lap A-main.  He moved into 11th on lap two and appeared poised to advance into the top ten when things changed for the Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Capitol Renegade, Coors Banquet Beer, E-Z-GO Golf Cars, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91.

Over the course of the next fifteen laps, Reinhardt lost seven spots, eventually retiring from the race early.

“We’ve been struggling.  This car treated us well last year but it has not been the same since I had it fixed over the winter, so we will be putting a new car together this week.”, Reinhardt shared.

UP NEXT

Reinhardt will make his 2024 Williams Grove Speedway debut this Friday night, May 3rd, for the World of Outlaws tune-up.  The traveling series is set to invade the speedway one week later on May 10th.

On Saturday night May 4th, the Neptune City, NJ native will head to Lincoln Speedway for their Outlaw tune-up.  The series will roll into the Abbottstown, PA oval on Wednesday night, May 8th.

Weldon Sterner Memorial Success for Cappetta on All Fronts

Abbottstown, PA – April 25, 2024

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jeremy Zarfos / WRT Speedwerx

After over a year of planning by Ashley Cappetta, Pat Sterner, presenting sponsor Chuck Reinert from Chuck’s Auto Parts Solutions and the team at Lincoln Speedway, the 20th annual Weldon Sterner Memorial finally came to fruition on Saturday night.

The pill draw monkey on Cappetta’s back finally took a night off when Chuck Reinert pulled the number 1 pill at pill draw, putting Ashley on the pole of her heat, “To have Chuck draw the 1 was impressive. It’s crazy to start on the pole, I haven’t started on the pole of a heat race in a long time.”

Before the heat race though, Cappetta hit the track for hot laps, “I didn’t get a good reading in hot laps after I got stuck behind someone that had never been there before. Even once I got around them, I didn’t get a good feel for the car, but I knew we’d have to change the set up anyway as the track was going to change quite a bit with time trials and the 410 heats running first.”

The initial start of the heat race saw a caution when a car spun, “I felt that Chad had a better start the first time and the restart definitely helped me since I got a better start the second time around.” Ashley was leading the heat race when the yellow came out again. On the restart, veteran driver, Frankie Herr was lined up in second. Cappetta held the lead on the restart with Herr not far behind, “I ran my heart out, yeah it was only a heat race, but it makes a difference.” Cappetta and Herr battled hard for the lead, with Herr taking the win, “I was happy with second. It put us in the redraw for the feature.”

Cappetta lined up eighth for the start of the 20-lap feature and felt progressively better as the race went on, “It was hard to pass, but after the caution I felt better.” One of the benefits of streaming is that the drivers can go back and watch their races, “When I watched the replay I saw I made a couple of mistakes and could have done a few things better.”

Overall Ashley was happy with how the night went on the track, “I feel like we’re making progress. The things we learned at the end of last season are helping us now. To make the show with 41 cars was an accomplishment in itself and to finish seventh was a blessing.”

In addition to the great night on the track, Cappetta played an integral role in the promotion of the event, including the off-track activities on Saturday night, “It was nice to see everything come together and and everyone working together.”

The night started out with the Fan Zone, which gave the fans an hour to go into the pits and meet their favorite drivers, “I’m very happy with the Fan Zone and the great support we received from both the drivers and the fans.”

One of the things that made both the Fan Zone and the entire night a hit was the turnout of race teams. In total 73 cars showed up to support the 20th Weldon Sterner Memorial, 32 410 sprints and 41 358 sprints, “The 358 turnout was great and the field of 410 sprints was strong.”

“Having people, and unexpected people at that, come up to say I did a good job made me feel really good.” Ashley would like to potentially get involved in the promotion of more events in the future, “People have no idea all of the work that goes into promoting a race. There’s a lot that goes into putting something together this big.”

Cappetta, Pat Sterner and the team at Lincoln are already looking forward to the 21st Weldon Sterner Memorial on September 28.
