Over the past month, Mother Nature has interfered with the Central Pennsylvania racing schedule, but Kody Hartlaub managed to squeeze in another 410 sprint car start, plus a couple more outings in his 358 sprint car.

The result was more of the consistent, quality runs fans have become accustomed to from Hartlaub in 2023.

Making 410 Laps

An off week for the 358 sprint cars on June 17th at Lincoln Speedway presented Hartlaub with a chance to get more 410 sprint car seat time.  With 29 teams on hand for the PA Speedweek tuneup show, it wasn’t a guaranteed start.  He would have to earn his way into the show.

Hartlaub’s pill draw put him on track late in the order for time trails and his best lap ranked as 24th quickest in the field.  That equated to starting 8th in his heat.

The East Berlin, PA driver wasn’t able to move forward in the heat race and was relegated to the 6th starting spot in the B-main.  Hartlaub needed to stay in the top six to transfer and he managed to secure a little insurance by finishing 4th.

Hartlaub’s night got even better after he secured the 22nd starting spot in the A-main.  By the end of lap two he had advanced 3 spots to 19th and by lap five he was 15th in the running order.

Midway through the race Hartlaub slipped back to 17th but continued to battle and eventually climbed back to 15th.  With three laps remaining he turned his quickest lap of the feature and worked his way into the 14th position.  He held on there to the checkered flag.

That was a decent night, I’ll take it.  Things happen a little quicker in these cars obviously and I think what hurts me right now is that I don’t run them regularly.  At the beginning of the night I feel like I’m still adjusting to the speed, not in terms of running hard but in terms of decision making.  As the night goes on, I adjust and things slow down and I feel like I race better because I’m making better decisions.  All part of the learning process.“, Hartlaub said.

Racing the Rubber

Thanks to Mother Nature and schedules, Hartlaub didn’t make a lap for three weeks before finally getting the chance to strap in again on July 8th at Lincoln Speedway.  It was a 358 sprint car night for the Littlestown, PA native and 35 other teams were pit-side with him.  The regular format called for the top five finishers in each heat to transfer to the main event, with the top three being handicapped to the front.

Hartlaub started 5th in the final heat.  Nearly halfway through the ten lap qualifying race he was sitting in 4th, in the show but not in the handicap.  He continued to work forward, taking the 3rd spot on lap five and capturing the final handicap spot on the final lap.

Being the current point leader at Lincoln Speedway, Hartlaub assumed the 12th starting spot for the 20-lap feature.  On lap three he moved into 11th but the racing surface had taken rubber, making it a one lane affair around the bottom.  The best he could do was make sure he didn’t miss his marks so he didn’t go backwards.  He finished 11th, his first time outside of the top ten in his 358 sprint car since March.

Feeling Normal

Saturday night July 15th brought another typical field of over thirty 358 sprint cars to Lincoln Speedway.  With a slightly better draw than the week before, Kody Hartlaub started 3rd in his heat and managed to claim a spot in the handicap with a 2nd place finish.  Once again, as the points leader at the track, his reward was a 12th starting spot in the 20-lap main event.

Although those things were all similar to prior weeks for Hartlaub, the rest of the night felt more like 2021 when he was passing a lot of cars and charging from the back to the front in the Brewer Home Improvements, Moose Blocks, Smith Titanium, SRR Engines, Siegel Racing, T&N Solutions, Inch & Co. Real Estate, Bigham Appraisals, Pretzel Boy, HAAS Shocks, Chop Designs, Herr Electric, Hartlaub’s Furniture, Kody Hartlaub Racing No.95.

From that 12th starting spot, on a very racy surface, Hartlaub got right to work.  By lap three he was in the top ten.  The methodical climb continued throughout the night.

Hartlaub reached 7th on lap eight but had to fight for several laps to secure it, finally taking it for good on lap twelve.  With seven laps remaining he cracked the top five and a couple laps later moved into 4th.  When the checkers waived, the 4th place finish was official.

Hartlaub has been having a tremendous season but it was surprising to note that this was his first top five finish since May 27th at BAPS Motor Speedway.  Overall, it was his 10th top ten in twelve races spanning three different tracks.  A remarkable statistic.

These 20-lap deals are tough when you get handicapped to 12th for the start.  You have to go forward right away.  I’ve been working hard this year on being aggressive but smart.  I will take chances out there but I want to take the correct chances.  So far I feel like I’m doing a better job at that than I did last year.“, Hartlaub said.

It’s the little things like knowing I can catch the car in front of me but being smart about exactly when I catch it.  With so few laps to work with, I need to make sure I pass someone the first chance I get, not spend three laps trying to get it done.  Those are the things I’m thinking about behind the wheel.

Up Next

Kody and the team will enjoy a weekend off before returning  for a two-race weekend at Williams Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway on July 28th and 29th respectively in their 358 sprint car.

Cappetta and Team Continue to Make Gains

Cappetta Matches Season Best Finish

Abbottstown, PA – July 19, 2023

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Ashley and the Cappetta Racing Team put together a solid night despite starting off yet again with a high pill draw.

  • Date:  July 15, 2023
  • Event:  Dean’s Auto Plaza Night
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  33 cars, Heat 4th [8], A-main 13th [16]

Cappetta and the Team Had the Car on Rails

Ashley Cappetta and the Gettysburg Trading Post, Mike’s Towing and Recovery, Yesteryear Antique Center, Stoner’s Auction, O’Brien’s Fuel and Service, Iron Horse Trains, Republican Club of Hanover No. 89 were back in action on Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway for Dean’s Auto Plaza Night.

After another high pill draw to start off the night, Cappetta lined up eighth for her heat race. Just as Ashley had driven her way into a transfer spot, she got caught up in an incident in turns 3 and 4, sending her back to the rear, “The car was on absolute rails before the contact in the heat. The car did not feel as good as it did before the spin out.” Cappetta rejoined the heat race with some nose wing damage which threw the car off a little bit. Ashley was still able to get back into a qualifying spot putting her in the feature, “If we would have stayed green third could have been possible.”

Another Solid Feature Run for Cappetta

Cappetta lined up 16th for the start of the 20-lap feature was running 14th on lap 4, “We moved forward, but not as far forward as I wanted to.” With four laps to go, Ashley made the pass for 13th, which is where she would finish, “I had a little bit of wheel spin coming off of turn 4. The car felt great, but I just couldn’t get past the wheel spin, it was just enough to throw me off.” Ashley’s 13th place finish matched her season best finish that came at BAPS on May 27th.

Cappetta and Team Making Gains

Everything went well in the feature for Cappetta on Saturday despite two set-backs to start off the night with a high pill draw and getting caught up in an incident in the heat race, “We are making gains every week and looking forward to comparing notes to last week to see what we can put together for the rest of the season.” Cappetta has a positive outlook for the second half of the season, “We are slowly getting there, we just need a good pill draw to seal the deal.”

Stay tuned to Cappetta’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.

Berry Rebounds With Personal Best at Hagerstown in Frank Sagi Tribute

Team Will Take Upcoming Weekend Off, Return July 29th at Port Royal

Hagerstown, MD – July 19, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jason Walls / WRT Speedwerx

Austin Berry has been trying to find speed during the early part of the race night all year.  He has found it in flashes here and there during an occasional time trial show, but in large part he has had to race his tail off late in the night to move toward the front.

Last week at Port Royal the team tried some new things to remedy that and it didn’t work exactly as hoped, although the team did learn from the changes.  Sunday night Berry was back at the track to try again among a high quality field of 43 super late models at Hagerstown Speedway for the Frank Sagi Tribute race.

  • Date:  July 16, 2023
  • Event:  Frank Sagi Tribute
  • Track:  Hagerstown Speedway
  • City, State:   Hagerstown, MD
  • Quick Stats:  43 cars, Qualifying 8th in Group 1, Heat 5th (8), A-main 10th (17)

Slow Start South of the Mason-Dixon Line

Berry went out late in Group 1 qualifying and turned in a lap that put him a disappointing 8th in the heat race starting lineup.  The track had a ton of grip in it as a result of a late afternoon rain shower and Berry’s No.86 was just a bit too tight and needed a little more horsepower than he had available to counter that.

The Mifflin, PA native quickly turned that slow start into a positive.  Berry charged all the way to 5th on the opening lap of the heat race.  He was unable to run down Rick Eckert and settled for a 5th place finish, which was good enough to transfer directly to the feature event.

Heading North With A Personal Best

Berry started 17th in the 30-lap Frank Sagi Tribute A-main.  Over the opening ten laps it looked like he was in for a long night.

Suddenly, The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis No.86 came alive.

On lap twelve Berry moved into 15th and by lap fifteen he had cracked the top ten.   Late in the race he slipped back to 11th for a handful of laps but he continued to battle and he was able to slip back into the 10th spot on the final circuit.  It was Berry’s career best finish at Hagerstown.

I found the middle right at the end there and it really worked for me.  Wish I had found that a few laps earlier, I think we could’ve picked off a couple more spots.”, Berry said.  We learned some things over the past couple races, so this week we talked with Jim (Stevens – JDS Racing) and made some changes.  The car was really good there in the feature, we just didn’t qualify good again and got ourselves in a hole.

“I’m learning behind the wheel every week and the team is learning every time we race too.  We will get the qualifying figured out early in the night and then we will be able to race for more podiums.  At least I can leave here tonight saying I beat Gary Stuhler at Hagerstown.  I’ve never done that before.“, Berry concluded with a smile.

Stuhler finished 12th  Sunday night.  He and Berry have become friends in recent years and beating the hall of fame driver, who he respects tremendously, at track where he has had so much success in his career gave Berry a moment to reflect on his journey as a driver to get to this point in his own career.

Feathers 7th Sunday in Sagi Tribute After Tough Saturday at Winchester

Team Planning Weekend Off, Evaluating Upcoming Schedule Options

Hagerstown, MD – July 19, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Photo Credit:  Jason Walls / WRT Speedwerx

Coming off his runner-up finish at Port Royal Speedway on July 8th, Trever Feathers set out on a two-race weekend at his home track, Winchester (VA) Speedway, and Hagerstown (MD) Speedway, hoping to continue to run well and put together a string of good finishes.

  • Date:  July 15, 2023
  • Event:  Junior Boone Memorial
  • Track:  Winchester Speedway
  • City, State:   Winchester, VA
  • Quick Stats:  27 cars, Qualifying 15th, Heat 3rd (4), A-main 24th (11)

  • Date:  July 16, 2023
  • Event:  Frank Sagi Tribute
  • Track:  Hagerstown Speedway
  • City, State:   Hagerstown, MD
  • Quick Stats:  43 cars, Qualifying 4th in Group 2, Heat 4th (4), A-main 7th (14)

Hometown Saturday Night

Feathers was among a field of 27 drivers signed in to compete in the Junior Boone Memorial at Winchester (VA) Speedway Saturday night, which offered the winner $5,015 to win, a guaranteed starting spot in Sunday’s Frank Sagi Tribute race at Hagerstown and a potential bonus of $1,500 if they could win both races.

In single group qualifying, Feathers hit the track last thanks to an unfriendly pill draw and his best lap ranked 15th overall.  The lap put him in 4th in the lineup for his heat race, which he converted into a 3rd place finish.

Feathers started 11th in 35-lap feature but struggled early with an ill-handling car and retired early from the event.

Sunday Night Rally

Sunday night’s Frank Sagi Tribute race at Hagerstown Speedway in northern Maryland attracted a strong field of 43 super late models.  A shower hit the speedway less than two hours before racing was to begin, putting a little extra moisture into the surface.

Feathers turned in the 4th fastest lap in Group 2 qualifying, landing him outside row two to start his heat race.

On the start of the 8-lap race, Feathers took the 3rd spot, but he slid high off turn two slipped back to 4th at the line.  On the fast, locked down surface that was difficult to pass on, he went on to finish 4th in the Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, North River Farm, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Team Zero Race Cars, Shane McDowell Racing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Fox Racing Shox, Bo Feathers Racing, Clem’s Garage, No.20.

After making some adjustments during the break, Feathers lined up 14th for the 30-lap main event and settled into a rhythm in the early going.  On lap eight he moved into the 12th spot and started to chip his way toward the top ten.

On lap twelve Feathers cracked the top ten and continued to methodically close on the front-runners.  With seven laps remaining, he wrestled the 7th spot away from Jeff Rine and set his sights on Jason Covert in 6th.  The laps ran out with Feathers in 7th.

Man, the car was phenomenal tonight.  We needed to time a little better earlier tonight and we would have been right in the thick of it.“, Feathers said.  It was a good late rally though.  The extra moisture probably worked against us.

This car is comfortable, and it responds to what we are doing.  We’ve only got a few races under our belt with it, but we are learning quickly.”

“I’m excited for the rest of our season; we just need to be smart about using the resources we have.  It would really help us compete in some of the bigger shows that are coming up if we could add another partner to the team.  Hopefully we will catch somebody’s eye.“, Feathers added.

Up Next

Feathers plans to take the upcoming weekend off and the team is evaluating their schedule options beyond that.  Stay tuned to Trever’s social media outlets listed below or check Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events to find his latest schedule at any time.

Trivia Question

The answer to our last trivia question is for a long time the track at the top of Trever Feathers wish list to compete at was East Bay Raceway Park in Brandon, FL.  He was able to check that goal off in 2020 when he joined the Lucas Oil Late Models there for their entire Winternationals week!

Now, on to this week’s question.  TBD?

Million Prelim

A massive field of 83 sprint cars made their way to western Ohio’s Eldora Speedway to take their shot at the sports first ever million dollar to win race.  Just making the starting field would pay more than most could earn for winning a feature event.

For Wednesday’s preliminary night program, the field was split into two groups and each ran their own complete show, earning points throughout the night that would set the lineups for Thursday night’s heat races.  Reinhardt timed 19th quickest in Group A.

Reinhardt started 4th in his heat race, needing to stay in the top five to make the preliminary night’s Group A feature.  He did just that, coming home 5th.

The qualifying run put Reinhardt 14th on the starting grid for the A-main.  In only his fourth career start at ‘The Big E’, he had the Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91 on point as he moved into the top ten as the race approached the halfway mark.

The caution flag waived at the halfway mark with Reinhardt running 11th.  The ensuing restart cost the Neptune City, NJ native a couple spots and he ultimately finished 14th.

Racing for a Big Payday

The field of 83 returned for Thursday’s finale with six heat races already laid out based on Wednesday’s results.  Only the top three finishers would transfer directly to the Eldora Million starting field, while the rest would be thrust into the dogfights known as the C-main and B-main to scrap for one of the remaining starting spots.

Reinhardt started 5th in his heat race but was unable to make any forward progress and was relegated to the B-main.  That’s where he started to turn some heads.

On the opening lap, Reinhardt broke into the top ten and by lap ten he was knocking on the door of a transfer spot.  The following trip around he claimed the 6th spot and held on to the end to take the final transfer spot into the Eldora Million.

Reinhardt wasn’t done passing cars.  After the ceremonial driver introductions and class photo for the first ever million dollar sprint car race, he strapped in and went back to work.

From his 24th starting spot in the 50-lap A-main, Reinhardt climbed to 17th just before the halfway mark and held on to finish there.

Royal Prelim

Friday night brought a shift of gears to the World of Outlaws sanctioned Knight Before the King’s Royal.  Kyle Reinhardt was back at it Friday night right along with  66 other teams who remained in the house for the show.

After qualifying 17th in Group B, Reinhardt drove from 8th to 6th in his heat race, one spot shy of transferring to the A-main.  In the B-main, Reinhardt hung tough in 4th throughout the race to claim the final transfer spot once again.

For the second consecutive night he was in the show and he would have his work cut out for him from the 24th starting spot.  On this night, Reinhardt only had 30 laps to work with, not 50 like the night before.  Once again Reinhardt started his progression early and managed to make his way into 17th at the checkered flag.

Competing for Royalty

After making three of the toughest feature fields of the season on three consecutive nights, Reinhardt was feeling optimistic about his team’s chances to race their way into the $175,000-to-win 40th Annual King’s Royal on Saturday night against 60 other capable teams.

Unfortunately, Reinhardt developed engine issues after hot laps and didn’t compete the remainder of the night.

Assessing the Week

“I’m really happy with our effort at Eldora Speedway this past week!  We improved every night while making some of the biggest shows of the year.“, Reinhardt said.

We felt really good going into Saturday’s King’s Royal and went P4 in hot laps.  Unfortunately, our engine started to lay down in qualifying.  I made two laps in the heat race but it was still struggling, so that ended our week.  I want to thank everyone who has a hand in our program, plus of course Chris, Lawton and Kent for busing their butts all week long!

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2023 season.

Kyle can be contacted via [email protected].

Up Next

Reinhardt will take on the World of Outlaws on his home turf at BAPS Motor Speedway’s Bricker’s Bash on July 19th and (tentatively) the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway on July 21st-22nd.  The latter is tentative because the team is awaiting completion of a repair to the motor they need for that event.

Follow Reinhardt’s social media channels listed below or check Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the latest schedule updates.

Keen Unable to Climb Out of Early Hole at Lincoln Saturday

Team Will Return to Lincoln This Weekend

Abbottstown, PA – July 12, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Kyle Keen returned to Lincoln Speedway over the weekend, nearly a month after his last visit resulted in a runner-up finish.

In the month that had passed, Keen endured multiple rainouts and had only completed one race, a URC event at Selinsgrove.  Saturday night he was looking to pick up where he left off and begin to build some consistent momentum.

  • Date:  July 8, 2023
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  36 cars, Heat 6th (8), B-main 4th (4), A-main 18th (24)

Play the Hand You Are Dealt

As is typical at Lincoln Speedway when the 358 sprint cars are on the card, a deep field was pit-side.  Thirty-six teams signed in for the show, which lined up heats by pill draw, then set the feature lineup with the top five finishers transferring and only the top three being handicapped to the front.

Keen’s pill draw set him up with an uphill challenge for the night by putting him 8th on the grid for the fourth heat race.  He got a great start and raced into 6th on the opening lap, then started his charge for more.

A few laps in, Keen was the victim of a spin in front of him.  With nowhere to go, he got collected in the incident.  Fortunately he was able to restart the race at the rear of the field, but he was only able to get back to 6th by the end of the 10-lap qualifying event in the Fine Line Auto Body, Keen Parts/CorvetteParts.net, Doubling Gap Ranch, Shetron, Auction & Equipment, LLC., Wicked Dog Grille, Heishman Racing Fuels, Wicked Cushion, DL Lehman Construction, Gearhead Coffee, Jeremy Zarfos Photography, Coyle’s Lawn Maintenance, 2B Wrapped, 4 Leaf Clover Farms, Turn 2 Terribles Podcast & Media, Kyle Keen Motorsports No.17.

After missing the transfer by one spot, Keen made his way into the feature with a 4th place finish in the B-main.  From his 24th starting spot in the A-main, he was able to climb to 18th over the course of the twenty laps.

It wasn’t the night we were hoping for, but I felt we were decent all night despite the outcome.“, Keen said.  “It was just one of those nights when you have to play the hand you are dealt.

After the track took rubber, it was tough to really see how good or bad we were.  In that situation you just have to hold your ground and defend.  Going on offense is tough.

Cappetta Comfortable Behind the Wheel After Summer Break

Team Heading in the Right Direction

Abbottstown, PA – July 12, 2023

by Emily Winslow / Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

The Cappetta Racing Team had a solid car on the track Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway, but rough pill draw had them playing catch up all night.

  • Date:  July 8, 2023
  • Event:  Hanover Building Systems Night
  • Track:  Lincoln Speedway
  • City, State:   Abbottstown, PA
  • Quick Stats:  36 cars, Heat 4th [7], A-main 15th [16]

Cappetta Plagued by Pill Draw Again

Ashley Cappetta and the Gettysburg Trading Post, Mike’s Towing and Recovery, Yesteryear Antique Center, Stoner’s Auction, O’Brien’s Fuel and Service, Iron Horse Trains, Republican Club of Hanover No. 89 were back in action on Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway for Hanover Building Systems Night.

Cappetta and the team started the night off with yet another subpar pill draw.  The high pill had Ashley start seventh in her heat race. Despite starting towards the back Cappetta’s car carried good speed, “I haven’t had a car that drivable since 2019.” With the car in good shape, Ashley finished fourth in her heat race, putting her in the feature.

Third Time Isn’t the Charm for Cappetta

Ashley started the 20-lap feature from the sixteenth starting spot. Unfortunately, it took three tries to get a lap in, “I carried speed coming out of turns 1 and 2 on the initial start, then on the second start I got up to fifteenth. The third start I stayed where I started.”

With the field being shifted for each start, Cappetta felt more comfortable starting on the outside, which is where she started for the initial start and the first restart. The final restart Cappetta restarted on the inside and despite feeling comfortable for the first five laps, she could not get a good run on Chris Frank. Once Frank pulled in Cappetta could get to where she needed on the track and spent most of the feature racing hard with veteran driver, Steve Owings.

“I got to see how Steve runs and his entry points. I think we could have passed him if I hadn’t showed him my nose.” Owings had the advantage in turns 1 and 2 but Cappetta was able to make up some ground in turns 3 and 4 through the middle. Cappetta crossed the line fifteenth, matching her best finish at Lincoln so far this year.

Cappetta Regrouped and Went Back to Basics

With nearly a month off from racing for Cappetta and the 358 Sprint Car division, Cappetta and the team took some time to regroup, “We switched all of our tires out to the new tire and I took some time to focus on running my business and spent time with family.”

Ashley also spent time with her original crew chief talking and comparing notes on how her season has played out so far, “After chatting with him we started back with the basics and the car felt a lot better. Overall, we are heading in the right direction we just need some luck and to put together a solid night.” Cappetta is looking forward to getting back to Lincoln on Saturday to see the full results of how good the car felt this past weekend.

Stay tuned to Cappetta’s social media accounts, as well as Addicted2DirtPR.com/Events for the most up to date schedule information.

Trever Feathers Debuts New Car, New Look With Runner-up Finish at Port Royal

Winchester/Hagerstown Double On Deck This Weekend

Port Royal, PA – July 12, 2023

by Addicted2Dirt PR & Media Mgmt

Trever Feathers took the first weekend of July off to, in his words, “hit reset”.  Now we not only know what he meant, we know it was the right choice…and it paid off.

Feathers debuted a new Team Zero car wrapped with a sharp black, grey and blue new look, carrying his trademark gold No.20.

Not only did the new mount look good, it raced good too.

  • Date:  July 8, 2023
  • Track:  Port Royal Speedway
  • City, State:   Port Royal, PA
  • Quick Stats:  32 cars, Heat 2nd (3), A-main 2nd (5)

Starting Off On the Right Foot

With a high quality field of 32 teams on hand for Saturday night’s race at Port Royal Speedway,  Feathers would not have time to ease into finding out what his new car was capable of.   He would need to be on his game from the time he fired the engine.

Heat lineups were set by pill draw and only the top five finishers would move on, with the top three being handicapped.  A favorable draw put Feathers inside row two for his heat race but at the drop of the green he slipped back to 4th, on the outside looking in at a handicap spot.

Feathers found his rhythm and chased down Cory Lawler on lap four to claim 3rd, and he wasn’t done yet.  On lap six he tracked down Nick Dickson to claim the runner-up spot.  In a preview of things to come, the Winchester, VA native then went after leader Bryan Bernheisel.  Feathers ran out of time and took the 2nd place finish.

True Test

Returning to Port Royal Speedway (where they have the most laps this year) was a good measuring stick to find out how good the new car would be, but the running of the feature event would be the true test.  There were other nights this season when Feathers was good early, only to see the tables turn completely at the end of the night.

Feathers started the 25-lap feature inside row three.  He held his ground in 5th for the first two circuits, then went to work aboard the Larry Royston’s Septic Services, Martins Pumping Service, McFarland Custom Painting & Wall Coverings, North River Farm, Leggett Engine Research, Feathers & Sons Roofing, Hot Rod Septic Treatment, Team Zero Race Cars, Shane McDowell Racing, Coffelt Graphics, Larry Royston Properties, Larry Royston Equipment, Fox Racing Shox, Bo Feathers Racing, Clem’s Garage, No.20.

On lap three, Feathers powered into the 2nd spot, advancing three spots in one lap.  His crosshairs were set on leader Bernheisel, and he began gradually closing the gap.

As the race approached ten laps remaining, Feathers was clearly the faster car, using the low line to his advantage.  He was ready to pounce and claim the lead when the first caution of the event came out.

Following a Delaware Double File restart, Feathers once again took sole possession of the runner-up spot.  He remained on Bernheisel’s back bumper but wasn’t able to pull alongside.  The race ended with Feathers in 2nd.

I didn’t need that caution but I’m pretty happy with how this Team Zero car raced for us tonight.  I was pretty sure I hadn’t forgotten how to drive.“, a noticeably more relaxed Feathers grinned, referring to the rough season he has battled through so far.

“That might be the best car I’ve ever had here.

That’s a big statement from someone who has won multiple races at ‘The Speed Palace’.

I want to give a big shout-out and thank you to Shane McDowell for all the support he has given us with this car.  We bought this car from him, and he has been great to work with.  We have a good piece here.  We can build on this.“, Feathers added.

Hopefully this is the turning point for us, and we can put a solid second half of the season together.

Up Next

Saturday night, July 15th, Feathers will make the four mile tow to his hometown track, Winchester Speedway (VA) for the Junior Boone Memorial, which will pay $5,015 to the winner and will also make that driver automatically qualified for the Frank Sagi Tribute race at Hagerstown Speedway (MD) the following night.

Feathers also plans to make the trip to Hagerstown Sunday night for the Sagi Tribute.

Season Stats

12 races, 0 wins, 4 top 5’s, 5 top 10’s, 8 top 15’s

Trivia Question

The answer to our last trivia question is Trever Feathers won his first Super Late Model race in his (C) 8th career super late model start at the Paul Johnson Memorial at Winchester (VA) Speedway!

Now, on to this week’s question.  What racetrack was at the top of Trever’s list for a long time as a place he wanted to race at…and he finally accomplished that goal in 2020 by racing there for the first time?

The answer in the next press release!

Austin Berry Not Satisfied With Performance Saturday Night at Port Royal

Hagerstown’s July 16th Frank Sagi Tribute Next on the Slate for ABR

Austin Berry has been pretty good this season.  He has had some highlights and some lowlights thus far in 2023.

What he and the team want though is more consistency and a few ‘higher’ highlights.  They have fallen short of the number of podium finishes they expected of themselves so far.  That said, they have also achieved a couple things they didn’t believe they could, like running up front at Clinton County Speedway on their first trip there.

Sometimes two steps forward and three steps back is not only the temporary combination necessary to end up ten steps forward, it might be the sign you are on the right path to get there.

Saturday Night Stomping Grounds

A stout field of 32 super late models was on hand Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway for a regular Saturday night show, which offers a tidy $4,000 to the winner.

Berry and The Tire Mart Tire Pros of Harrisburg, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels, JDS Racing, Locust Hill Custom Butcher Shop, Nathan Berry Beef Farm, Addicted2DirtPR.com, GO Lithium, Valvoline Pro-V Racing, Super Clean, Rocket Chassis No.86 were on hand for their first weekly race since completing the grueling Late Model Speedweek in June.

Heat lineups were set by pill draw and Berry got a reasonable outside 2nd row starting spot to kick off his night.  The top five finishers would transfer to the main event but the goal was a top three finish, which would put the driver inside the handicap for the night’s feature.

Berry, who often make a lot of forward progress on the opening lap of heat races, didn’t get his typical start.  He fell in line in 4th and went to work on chasing down Dillan Stake.  He got by Stake on lap four but two laps later lost the spot in a heated three-way battle with Tim Wilson.  Berry settled for a fourth place finish.  He would have to work from deeper in the field in the finale later that night.

Not Good Enough

Instead of a top ten starting spot from the handicap, Berry rolled to the green for the 25-lap A-main in the 16th spot.  He managed solid progress early, reaching 12th by lap four.

One lap later, Berry slipped back three spots, losing almost all of the ground he had made.  From there he trudged on, scratching and clawing his way back to 12th again with ten laps remaining.  Once again, he found himself battling Stake, the two exchanging positions multiple times.

Berry reclaimed 12th and held on to finish there at the checkered flag.  It wasn’t the type of performance Berry expects of himself and his team these days.

“We just weren’t very good tonight.  We tried some things to get faster earlier in the night but I don’t think that hurt us.  We just missed the setup.”, Berry said.  “We know this place better than anywhere and we expect to run in the top ten here every week.  When we don’t, we’re not happy.”

“Nothing to do but learn from it, get back to work and get it right next time.”

Reinhardt Turns Heads With Top 5 Pennsylvania Speedweek Points Finish

Team Will Race Selinsgrove Sunday Then Head West for Eldora Million and Kings Royal

Port Royal, PA – July 7, 2023

Coming into the final four nights of the 2023 Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek, Kyle Reinhardt was sitting 6th in series points with his goal of an overall top five finish alive and well.

Reinhardt had positioned himself there by logging feature finishes of 12th, 6th, 7th, and 10th in the four A-mains that had been completed out of the first six scheduled nights.

Mother Nature appeared poised to rob Reinhardt of some or all of his final four chances to improve his points position.  Despite her best efforts, he got his chances and got it done.

Groovin' at The Grove

The 35th annual Mitch Smith Memorial at Williams Grove Speedway, sporting a total purse of $50,000, attracted a field of 29 cars Friday night, June 30th.

Reinhardt, who had four top-ten finishes in his first four starts at the famed facility this season, logged the 12th fastest lap in qualifying in a highly competitive field.  To demonstrate just how competitive, a mere 0.075 seconds better would have put the Neptune City, NJ native 8th in the results.

Reinhardt ‘held serve’ in his heat race, starting and finishing 3rd, which put him 10th on the starting grid for the night’s 30-lap finale.  He wasted no time, surging to 8th on the opening lap.  He held that spot for the opening ten trips around, slipped back to 9th briefly, then regained his momentum.

As the race entered the final ten laps, Reinhardt’s No.91 came alive.  He moved into 7th on lap twenty, then took possession of 6th on lap twenty-six and held down that spot to the finish.

Wet Weekend

It was a typical humidity-filled, late-afternoon, summer thunderstorms kind of weekend in Central Pennsylvania.  The active weather pattern claimed two victims.  Saturday’s Greg Hodnett Classic at Port Royal Speedway and Sunday’s Opperman-Bogar-Heinztelman Memorial at Selinsgrove both were wiped off the Speedweek schedule by the weather.  The latter was rescheduled to the following weekend but would not carry Speedweek points.

Monday’s Speedweek finale at Port Royal Speedway almost survived but the rains hit as time trials were nearing completion.  Fortunately, Tuesday was available as a rain date for that event.

Speed Palace Finale

Thirty five team returned to Port Royal Speedway on Independence Day for the Keith Kauffman Classic, which would pay $15,000 to the victor.

Reinhardt has had his share of struggles at The Speed Palace in recent years but on this night, he went out 23rd for qualifying and turned in the 5th quickest lap in the field, his best time trial result of speedweek in the Capitol Renegade, Capitol Custom Coaches & Trailers, Coors Banquet Beer, Henry’s Wrecker Service No.91.

Going from the pole of the first heat of the night, Reinhardt needed to win to make the redraw.  He dominated the first seven laps before a late caution.  The ensuing restart had Lance Dewease on his tail and the veteran took his shot at Reinhardt, getting by in turn one to briefly claim the top spot.

Reinhardt crossed over and drove back under Dewease coming to the checkered flag, winning the heat race by a slim 0.025 seconds.

The redraw didn’t go Reinhardt’s way as he pulled the number eight from the bag, putting him outside the fourth row for the 30-lap main event.  One the opening lap he charged to 6th and remained there for a handful of circuits before slipping to 7th.

In the closing laps, Reinhardt was battling a tight racecar and fighting hard in the back half of the top ten.  He slipped back one spot in the final lap to a 9th place finish.

Career Best PA Speedweek

Reinhardt’s efforts on the closing night of the 2023 edition of Pennsylvania Speedweek moved him into 5th in the final series standings.

“Overall, it was a very solid week for us.  I’m super happy with our consistency and the speed we have. Need to keep chipping away to get better track position and race for some podiums. I want to thank all my guys for their efforts all week.“, Reinhardt commented.

Final PA Speedweek Points:

 1) 39M Anthony Macri   989

 2) 19 Brent Marks    826

 3) 13 Justin Peck    739

 4) 51/8 Freddie Rahmer 698

 5) 91 Kyle Reinhardt   637

 6) 44 Dylan Norris     575

 7) 58 Tanner Thorson   573

 8) 48 Danny Dietrich   543

 9) 69K Lance Dewease   515

10) 11 TJ Stutts    499

New Addition

I am also really looking forward to working with Chris (Shuttlesworth) moving forward. Since he joined our team at Hagerstown, I feel a lot more confident in my car and some weight has been lifted off my shoulders with the decision making during the night so I can focus on driving.

Reinhardt has had good speed all year, has one win and has shown he is on the doorstep of consistently competing for podium finishes and wins.  The addition of Shuttlesworth could be the key to accomplishing that.

Reinhardt and the Capitol Renegade, Coors Banquet Beer, Ace Distributing, Henry’s Wrecker Service team will be one to keep an eye on over the second half of the 2023 season.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2023 season.

Kyle can be contacted via [email protected].

Up Next

Reinhardt will return to Selinsgrove Speedway this Sunday, July 9th, for the makeup of the $10,000 to win Opperman-Bogar-Heinzelman Memorial that was rained out during speedweek.

A couple days later the team will load up and head west for Eldora Speedway to compete in the Eldora Million and the King’s Royal July 12th-15th.

Season Stats

29 races, 1 wins, 5 top 5’s, 18 top 10’s, 23 top 15’s
