Progress and Patience: Austin Berry Quietly Making Gains with New Approach on and off the Track

Austin Berry’s super late model schedule has been a little sparse so far this season. That has been mostly an intentional thing.

Berry and his wife have made building a house their priority this year, plus engine bills last season have Berry focused on a lighter schedule to make sure he doesn’t face another offseason engine refresh bill.

That said, a lighter schedule doesn’t mean he isn’t focused on improving his program, and it certainly doesn’t mean he has any less desire to be competitive and win races.

THINKING AHEAD

“Unfortunately, those are the kinds of decisions a small, family-owned team like ours has to make. Last year was hard on our racing budget, so we have to play the long game and make sure our equipment lasts.”, Berry shared.

“We bought a piece of land several years ago, and my wife has patiently waited to build our house while we focused on racing. This was the year to change the priority.”

“If our plan works out, it should put us in a position in the coming seasons to race more than we have before, plus I’ll have a new, larger space to do it out of.”, Berry said, referring to the shop that will be a part of his newly built home.

June 7th at Port Royal Speedway turned out to be another good example of the way Berry and his team must make decisions. During his heat race at the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek show, Berry was challenging for second, but his engine temp had risen to undesirable heights, so he was forced to drop out to prevent any significant damage.

Back in the pits, the crew found a broken engine cooling fan. While Berry could have replaced the fan and raced the B-main that night, he and the team chose to park the car for the night so they could fully evaluate it at the shop to ensure there had been no damage to the Tuscarora Restoration, Juniata Veterinary Clinic, Berry’s Siding & Seamless Gutter, Dye It Rite, SRI Performance, VP Racing Fuels No.86.

“We have to be smart and not take unnecessary risks with our equipment right now. A major failure right now could sideline us for a long time.”, Berry said.

PRODUCTIVE SHOP TIME

Even though the race schedule has been light so far this season, it doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of work going on. Berry and his team have been busy in the shop evaluating their setups and looking for ways to improve the handling of their Rocket XR1 Chassis.

“We seem to find ourselves fighting a tight racecar a lot. That means when I want it to turn and rotate, it wants to push the front end up the track instead.”, Berry explained.

“It’s something we have battled. Sometimes we kinda solve it, but overall it doesn’t give the car the feel I want, so we have been working hard to find a setup package that gives me the balance I want and eliminates the push.”

After a lot of shop hours to make significant changes to their racecar, Berry was anxious to hit the track and find out if their hard work had them headed in the right direction. The weather made it a bit of a gamble, but it looked promising enough to load up and hit the road June 28th to race the Spence Memorial at Winchester Speedway in Virginia.

LET’S SEE WHAT WE’VE GOT

After a sunny afternoon, rain hit the track minutes before hot laps and delaying the start of the program. When racing finally did get started, the track went from greasy to fast to rough as hot laps, qualifying, and heats took place, with weather still making itself known from time to time.

When he did hit the track, Berry timed 3rd quickest in his group and scored a runner-up finish in his heat race.

“It was a tricky surface for sure. There was so much grip, I had a hard time keeping my left side tires on the ground.”, Berry commented.

“My car was really good. It had more than I could use under the conditions. I kinda had to be carefully aggressive and just take what I could get without risking my equipment.”

Ultimately, the promoter, in the interest of driver safety, pulled the plug on the show before the heats were completed.

THE NEXT TEST

Berry’s assessment of the changes to his car on the abbreviated night in Virginia was that they had something good going.

“The conditions were unusual, but I could still tell the car was much better. I wasn’t shoving the nose at all.”, an optimistic Berry explained.

With that in mind and anxious to get more laps, Berry planned two races around the Independence Day holiday. The first was the Firecracker 76 at Bedford Speedway in Pennsylvania on July 3rd.

Berry started second in his heat race and held a firm grip on the spot throughout. In the main event, he started 8th and made his way forward to challenge for 4th at one point.

He ultimately ended up 6th after dealing with some lapped traffic and doing battle with a familiar foe or two. All in all, it was a solid night.

“We were pretty good. It’s tough to pass here, so track position is key. I’m happy with where we are. We’ve made good progress on our setup, plus I got to race with my good buddy Tyler Ritchey for a while.”, Berry commented.

BACK ON FAMILIAR TURF

Berry’s second event of the holiday weekend was just ten miles from his shop on July 5th at Port Royal Speedway. ‘The Speed Palace’, as it’s known, is where Berry has the most laps in a super late model, so this would be a good opportunity to evaluate the recent setup changes.

The answer came quickly. In Berry’s heat race, he raced to a runner-up finish from his 3rd starting spot.

“I had a great car in the heat race. Best car I’ve had here in a while. I’m excited because this new package we implemented has us competitive again.”, Berry said.

“I probably had a good enough car to win the heat race, but the line Andrew (Yoder) was running took away my best option, so I didn’t take any risks.”

The qualifying run provided Berry with the 4th starting spot and a lot of confidence for the 25-lap A-main.

Unfortunately, things went sour early. Berry caught a rut in turn two of the opening lap, which not only cost him a couple of positions, it initiated the demise of his right rear tire.

“I could smell rubber right away, so I knew it was going flat from the get-go.”, a disappointed Berry explained.

With the tire going down, Berry lost another couple of positions, and then on lap five, the tire let go, shredding it and sending him to the work area for a replacement.

“Man, I don’t need good luck…I’d just like the bad breaks to stay away for a while so we can show what we’ve got. I want my guys to get some payoff for all their hard work.”, Berry added.

Officially, Berry finished 17th, but at least he came away knowing they are making the right changes and they have speed again.

“I believe we were a top-five car tonight without the tire issue. The bad breaks are hard to swallow, but I’m going to focus on the fact that we have speed and a good handling racecar again. If we keep digging, we’ll get the finishes we are capable of.”, a very patient and confident Berry stated.

UP NEXT

Berry hasn’t set his upcoming schedule in stone just yet. His day job and new home construction are both demanding a lot of attention at the moment.

“The Spence Memorial makeup at Winchester Speedway this coming weekend is on my radar but I can’t commit to it just yet. I’ll need to see how things go this week.”, Berry shared.

“Patience is definitely key for me this year on and off the track. I just have to manage everything and keep it all moving forward. I appreciate the fans being patient with us this year too. We’ll get the word out as soon as we’re able to make decisions about our schedule. Keep an eye on our social media for the latest.”

Breakthroughs and Continued Speed Highlight Stellar June for Lane Snook

As the summer months came into sight for the Mifflintown native Lane Snook, speed and winning ways continued. After the first day of June brought another win, Lane and team took a week off to attend Eldora Speedway’s Dirt Late Model Dream. Rain barred the team from returning to action the following week. The first full day of summer would be the next time the team would hit the track, this time at the Selinsgrove Speedway.

Showing no lack of speed in their first race in three weeks, Lane and team were able to roll out another fast car. “We had a good car all night long.” After getting a good start in the heat race and advancing from 7th to the win, Lane rolled off 2nd in the feature. “Drag raced into turn one on the start of the feature and got out front.” That move proved to be the difference maker, as, after a few restarts, Snook was able to keep the lead and grab a third triumph at the Selinsgrove half-mile.

A double-header weekend would round out the month of June. Bedford Speedway would be up first. Lane had previously won both appearances at the big half-mile fairgrounds. This time did not result in a win, but Snook was still able to show speed. Another heat win, followed by an 8th-4th run in the feature, started off the weekend on a decent note. “I stayed up till 6:30 AM working on the car after our 4th place run at Bedford,” stated Lane. This was all in preparation for the big show at Port Royal, that followed later that Saturday.

Saturday would prove to be one of the more special days in the young racer’s career. With a $6,000 payday on the line, “we knew there were going to be good cars there and that our equipment had to be in good shape.” With a special time trial format, qualifying would be important and could help or hurt your entire night. “I ran a good lap in time trials to get us quick time, and with the heads-up format, that set us up for the night.” Starting on the pole for the heat, Lane was able to seal the heat race win and the pole position for the feature. With Lane getting a good jump on the initial start, and “after a few cautions and keeping myself calm, we were able to finally get in done at Port.” Not only was this a big win from the standpoint of the monetary value, it was a personal one.

“From growing up here (Port Royal), it was a place I always wanted to win at. The big race was just a bonus,” stated Snook. Lane’s dad raced at the Speed Palace for many years, and getting to grow up on the fairgrounds during race season, having his own name on the record as a feature winner at the speedway, meant a lot. “Our car had great speed all night, and the format really helped us. Hopefully, we can get a few more since we got the first one out of the way.”

While the team will have to wait a few weeks to return to the Port Royal Speedway, they will have plenty of other tracks and nights to potentially add to the growing list of wins on the season. The 23 team plans to kick off the month of July at Dog Hollow on the 3rd and again for a makeup show on the 4th. The next day they will venture to the Winchester Speedway in Virginia. A double-header weekend follows, with trips to Selinsgrove and Port Royal Speedway.

Path Valley will then be on the team’s schedule for July 19th. The team plans to then round out the month with a trip to Selinsgrove on July 26th and then Clinton County on July 29th for a fair week special. A jam-packed month compared to June, and hopefully a lot more chances to show the speed and ability of the 23 car.

Lane continues to have an impressive stat line, with all of his races, but two, resulting in top 10 finishes. Keep up to date with raceday plans and results on the team’s website all year long.

Lane Snook is a 3rd generation race car driver who is entering his 10th year behind the wheel at the age of 16. After racing go karts for several years, he made the move into the limited late model division in 2023. In 2024 he saw great success in the division, collecting 5 wins at 2 different tracks. With the Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek on the horizon, Kody Hartlaub is gearing up for arguably the most challenging stretch of the season—a 10-day, 10-race trial that demands both endurance and attention to detail.

Hartlaub is entering this year’s Speedweek with a balanced perspective on his season so far. His goal this season was top-ten finishes, which he has achieved, but to a lesser degree than he’d like. As a result, there remains a strong desire for improvement and consistency. Last month, the East Berlin (PA) driver was transparent in sharing that his cars were better than he had been and he felt he needed to improve behind the wheel.

Hartlaub’s recent showing at Williams Grove was a confidence-booster and validation that his efforts to improve his skills behind the wheel are working. He executed what he considers the best 30 laps he has ever run at the legendary oval. It came against a highly competitive field with the All Star Circuit of Champions in town to challenge the PA Posse. The run earned him a 10th-place finish out of 40 contenders.

It was a solid result, but it also demonstrates how a driver and team can do everything right and still not get exactly the result they desire. The sport is tough. It makes teams feel like they have to be great just to get good results. That’s why Hartlaub and his team work so hard on their program, down to the smallest details.

CONFIDENT PREPARATION

Entering his second Speedweek, Hartlaub carries the confidence of experience.

“Because of racing so much now, I’m not anxious about new tracks. I just attack it like it’s another race,” he reflects, underscoring the maturity and composure he brings into the high-pressure environment. This familiarity, however, doesn’t imply complacency, as Hartlaub keenly focuses on each race as an opportunity to further refine his approach.

After competing in his first PA Speedweek in 2024 in the seat of the Trone Outdoor No.39, a notable change this year is that he will be competing in the NinetyFive Motorsports, Brewer Home Improvements, J Fuels, Bigham Appraisal, Moose Blocks, Griffith Plumbing Services, T&N Solutions No.95 owned by Pat Brewer and Hartlaub.

“This year I’ll be off work the whole week and I’ll be hands-on with the car.”, Hartlaub shared.

He and the team will take care of daily maintenance, handle motor swaps when necessary, and generally make sure they are prepared each night when they unload.

“It’s a lot for Pat, Justin, Austin, Lane, my dad (Kevin), and me to keep everything operating smoothly with the pace you have to keep to race ten times in ten days, but we will be ready.”, Hartlaub added.

Consistency remains the key pillar of Hartlaub’s ambitions for Speedweek. Recalling his fifth-place finish in last year’s Speedweek points standings, he aims to build on this foundation, continuing to target top ten finishes with an eye on the top five.

Speedweek isn’t all about those ten days, though. A significant part of being successful is the planning and preparation that occur over the many weeks leading up to the series.

“We are being smart about which motor to run where. If things go as planned, we’ll only need to change motors twice during the ten races.”, Hartlaub said.

Hartlaub is poised to be a factor night in and night out throughout the series. Speedweek could be the turning point of Hartlaub’s season, helping him break through to more consistent top-ten finishes and more top fives.

ABOUT KODY HARTLAUB

Kody started racing go-karts in 2005. Over five seasons he won championships at Hunterstown and Shippensburg, and finished 2nd in the PA State series. Following the 2009 season, he moved up to race 600 micro sprints on a limited basis, but then spent a few years away from the sport. In late 2015 Kody tested in a 358 sprint car and started a partial schedule in 2016. In 2018, he raced the majority of the season but then sat out again in 2019. He returned to 358 sprints in 2020 on a very limited schedule, then in 2021 he was able to complete his first full season at Lincoln Speedway.

Ashley Cappetta’s race night at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday was full of emotion, challenges, and ultimately, another top 10 finish in 358 sprint car competition—her fifth in six starts this season.

Things started off on a superstitious note when Cappetta and her crew member received wristbands numbered 43-19 and 1-19, respectively—a combination of numbers with strong sentimental ties. “With Steve’s number being 19 and 43 being someone very special to me, it felt like a good sign,” said Cappetta. “Then we pulled pill number 19—it just felt like something good was in the air.”

The team tried a new setup during warm-ups that showed early promise. However, changing track conditions by the heat race made the car difficult to handle. “It was probably the most uncomfortable I’ve felt all year,” Cappetta admitted. “It was standing up on the right rear, really bad off the corners. I couldn’t drive it the way I needed to.” A racing incident with Chad Criswell added to the frustration, but Cappetta emphasized her commitment to clean racing and apologized to Criswell and his team.

Despite the challenges, Cappetta’s consistency paid off, as she held onto an invert spot for the feature. After a team discussion, the decision was made to revert to a more familiar and proven setup for the main event. “I knew it wasn’t the night for trial and error,” she explained. “We’ve been consistent all year, and I didn’t want to jeopardize that.”

That decision paid off, as Cappetta climbed into the top five during the A-Main, running as high as fifth before a late-race caution allowed another driver to capitalize. She ultimately finished sixth—another solid result for the team, which is still in its first season together. “It was a good rebound. I got my confidence back during the feature,” she said.

The team will continue working to improve, including a private midweek test session at BAPS Motor Speedway. “Even though it’s not Lincoln, any seat time is valuable,” Cappetta noted. “We’ve been putting in the hours, talking through everything, watching film—this season already feels different in the best way.”

The team’s efforts have put Cappetta atop the Lincoln Speedway point standings—by a slim five-point margin. “It’s early, and I’m not focused on winning a championship just yet. I want to win races. But even leading for one week shows we’re doing something right.”

Cappetta Reflects on PA Speedweek Kickoff Event

Cappetta also participated in the PA Speedweek Kickoff event on Sunday, an experience she found both meaningful and necessary. “I thought it was a great event,” she shared. “It’s so important to bring fans—especially young kids—closer to the sport. They’re the future.”

Ashley emphasized how these events foster connection and community among drivers and fans. “We don’t always get to talk at the track. Sunday gave us that chance,” she said. “Selling merchandise is also a big help. It’s not just fan gear—it’s like a mini sponsorship. Every little bit helps.”

With momentum on her side and a dedicated team behind her, Cappetta remains focused and optimistic. “We’re still learning, but we’re heading in the right direction. We’re not just showing up—we’re showing up to compete.”

Ashley Cappetta is a second-generation racer following her uncle’s footsteps. She started her racing career in 2012. It was her first year piloting her race car but certainly not her first exposure to the sport. She was introduced to racing by her father, who was Steve Smith’s crew chief. As Preston Lattomus readies himself for the upcoming Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek, he reflects on the progress and experiences he’s gained during his rookie season in a 410 sprint car. DRIVEN

Looking back on the season so far, Preston notes that while he hasn’t reached his ideal performance level yet, the journey has been both challenging and rewarding. Racing in Pennsylvania, a region known for its tough, competitive sprint car environment, has been an eye-opener for him. Although he may not have hit every target, he understands that these experiences are essential steps toward becoming a more proficient driver.

“I know 410 racing in Pennsylvania is the hardest racing in the world, and it takes time to compete with the best,” Lattomus acknowledges.

Having previously taken part in speedweeks for micro sprints, Preston is no stranger to the demands of consecutive racing days. This experience has prepared him somewhat for the rigors of the upcoming Speedweek, though he notes that the stakes are higher and the competition is fiercer at the 410 level.

“Getting ready for Speedweek isn’t a completely new thing, but I realize it will be more races at a much higher level, and I am ready for it,” Lattomus remarked.

The ten days are seen as a beneficial chance to accumulate laps quickly and absorb the lessons each day offers.

Preston has outlined clear objectives for the upcoming Speedweek. His primary aim is to qualify for all of the A-main events and maximize learning opportunities. Qualifying will be a key to achieving that goal, and that is something he has already identified as an area needing improvement.

“I want to improve my qualifying efforts. That is critical for a lot of big races we run, so this is a good series to get a chance every day for ten days to work on it. My goals for Speedweek are to make all of the features and learn as much as possible, and that will all start with qualifying well.” Lattomus shared.

The series will also bring him to tracks that are new to him in a 410 sprint car, including Grandview, Selingsgrove, Hagerstown, and Path Valley.

“Racing at a lot of different tracks helps you grow as a driver. I want to apply what I’ve learned and give the team good runs at these new tracks.”, Lattomus added.

Preston’s drive to grow as a racer and learn from each experience underscores his commitment to the sport. He is approaching the upcoming series with optimism and sees it as a valuable opportunity for accelerating his development toward reaching the high level of performance he knows he is capable of.

At every other level of racing he has taken on, Lattomus has shown he knows how to learn and excel. This rookie season is step one in that journey in 410 sprint cars.

Tyler Ross Scores Runner-up Finish in Steve Smith Tribute, Heads Into PA Speedweek With Momentum

Tyler Ross has had good speed all season long, but hasn’t been able to put a full night together and show the results his team is capable of.

Most race nights this season have followed one of two paths. He has been good early, then stumbled late. He has struggled early, then shone late.

Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway’s Steve Smith Tribute and Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek tune-up, Ross forged a new path. He and his team were good from qualifying through the final checkered flag.

QUICK RESULTS:

MINOR HICCUP

Ross hit the track about halfway through the qualifying order and laid down a lap that was good enough for 4th quickest at the time, and it held up pretty well. He ended up 5th quickest overall.

The only hiccup for Ross Saturday night was finishing 3rd in his heat race after starting on the pole.

“We just missed it a little bit, and I wasn’t able to get the start I needed.”, Ross explained.

“Fortunately, I was able to at least battle back to 3rd and keep us in a decent position for the feature.”

CONFIDENCE BOOSTER

Ross started 8th in the 35-lap main event that honored Steve Smith, winner of 150 sprint car races and nine track championships at Lincoln Speedway, including six consecutive titles in the 1970s at Lincoln Speedway.

As he has done often this season, Ross went forward. He quickly cracked the top five on lap three.

Ross hung around 4th and 5th for the bulk of the race until a late-race restart with ten laps remaining provided a great opportunity to get more. He charged from 4th into the runner-up spot in one corner and went on to hold off numerous challenges from Ryan Newton.

Ross tried to chase down leader Troy Wagaman Jr., but the gap was too much to close under green flag conditions. He went on to secure the 2nd-place finish, his first podium of the season.

“I wish we had not missed it in the heat. Feel like if we could have started a row or two better in the feature, we might have had something for Troy.”, Ross shared.

“We’ll certainly take a second, though. We’ve had speed all year, but we had not been able to put a full night together and reach the podium until tonight. Feels good to see all the hard work my team has put in paying off.”

“It’s going to be a busy week coming up. I’m really happy to have some type of confidence going into it.”

Ross now sits 5th in Lincoln Speedway’s 2025 championship points standings.

UP NEXT

Ross has firmed up plans for at least four PA Sprint Speedweek races. He will enter races two through five of the ten-race series: Lincoln Speedway (6/28 & 6/30), BAPS Motor Speedway (6/29), and Grandview Speedway (7/1).

The team is still evaluating its options for the second half of the series. They will share those plans when the decision is finalized.

Ashley Cappetta continued her strong 2025 campaign with a resilient eighth-place finish at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night, overcoming an early misstep in the heat race to charge forward in the feature.

The night started with a favorable pill draw, setting Cappetta up with a solid opportunity in her heat race. However, a misjudgment at the chalk line during the initial start led to a loss of momentum that dropped her to fourth in the running order. “I just made a dumb mistake,” Cappetta admitted. “I misjudged the chalk line and second-guessed myself. Looking back, I probably should’ve just gone for it.”

Despite the early frustration, the setback provided an unexpected advantage. The team made strategic adjustments to the car ahead of the feature—changes they may not have considered had they started further up the grid. “That mistake ended up pushing me to agree to try something new with the car setup, and it really worked out for us,” Cappetta explained.

Starting deeper in the field, Cappetta quickly moved forward in the feature, making key passes and battling within the top 10. A red flag at lap 10 allowed for additional adjustments during the open red. “We needed a tire pressure adjustment, and that break gave us the chance to make it,” she said.

Cappetta crossed the line in eighth, adding another consistent finish to her season resume. “We’ve been working so well as a team, and even though we’re only five races in together, it feels like we’re really finding our rhythm,” she shared.

Currently sitting second in Lincoln Speedway’s season point standings, Cappetta recognizes the challenge that comes with consistent finishes. “It’s a blessing and a curse,” she laughed. “It’s great to be up there in points, but it means starting even further back each week. Still, I’m proud of our consistency.”

With a weekend off ahead, the team is using the time to finalize their second car and prepare for a special night on June 21—the Steve Smith Tribute Race. “That race means a lot to us,” Cappetta said. “My dad has history with Steve and the Smith family, so if we could get the job done that night, it would be incredibly special.”

Looking ahead, Cappetta and her team are focused on maintaining momentum, continuing to test and improve, and—ultimately—getting to victory lane. “We’re not getting complacent. I want to get a win under our belt and just keep building from there.”

THE ANALYSIS

Reflecting on his recent outings, Ross acknowledged the speed his team has maintained throughout race nights.

“We have speed all night,” Ross mentioned. “Even with the challenge of a narrow track during the heat a couple weeks ago, and then going out dead last in time trials this past Saturday night, we have managed to battle back and salvage good finishes both nights.”

Ross’s recent performance at Lincoln Speedway contributed to his tally of top ten finishes, which includes seven at the Abbottstown, PA oval. The goal, however, is to convert these solid finishes into great finishes.

“Getting the top five finishes we know we’re capable of requires us to be a little better early in the night. That’s what is needed to allow us to position ourselves to get better starting spots and be within striking distance of the front of the field,” Ross explained.

THE KEYS

The balance between seeking early improvements without sacrificing success later in events is crucial.

Ross shared, “We are not far off. I think we’re really close right now. It’s just small adjustments we need to make, and I need to be up on the wheel a little bit more.”

In discussing the pressures of racing, Ross pointed out that much of it comes from his own expectations.

“Truthfully, I probably put the most pressure on myself.”, Ross admitted.

“My guys work hard, and our partners and sponsors give us what we need to get the job done. I need to be better, and I think that as we get more races, it will come. The weather isn’t helping my cause. I typically do better the more laps I’m able to make, and this year it’s been hit or miss with all the rainouts. Hopefully, the weather changes and we can get more consistent laps in.”

Ross and his team remain focused on the task at hand, elevating top-ten finishes to podiums for the Ross Racing, Bush Auto Group, Fastrak Express Inc., Stateline Truck and Trailer, Stoltzfus Farm Service/Kubota, Betts Garage No.5.

J Fuels, in collaboration with NinetyFive Motorsports, is proud to announce a tribute and fundraiser in memory of the Late Patrolman Andrew William Duarte, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty while courageously responding to an active shooter incident on February 22, 2025.

Patrolman Andrew Duarte was a dedicated officer with the West York Borough Police Department. He had over seven years of service, including time with the Denver Police Department. He was known for his commitment to public safety and community well-being. In 2021, Patrolman Duarte received the prestigious Hero of the Year award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his efforts in combating impaired driving.

J Fuels and NinetyFive Motorsports will host a tribute throughout Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek. Beginning at BAPS Motor Speedway on June 29th, this special event will feature a commemorative wing adorned with the West York Borough Police emblem and Officer Duarte’s details.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

“Our community was deeply affected by the tragedy that struck Patrolman Duarte, happening so close to home. Initially, I felt compelled to do something meaningful, but wasn’t sure how to proceed,” explained Jimmy O’Brien, owner of J Fuels.

“After some thought, I realized partnering with the race team could amplify our impact. I reached out to the other sponsors, and without hesitation, they all agreed to support the tribute.”

Inspired by the philanthropic efforts of figures like JJ Watt, O’Brien added, “I admire those who use their platform to make a difference, and I wanted to do the same in my community. By working together, we can achieve so much more than a single donation could.”

“I am sincerely grateful to everyone involved for helping turn this vision into reality and honoring Patrolman Duarte’s legacy,” expressed O’Brien.

HONOR AND AID

A raffle will offer fans the opportunity to win the team’s specially designed wing. Entries are priced at $15 each, with all proceeds donated to the Officer Andrew Duarte Memorial Fund. Raffle sales are now open and will run through July 20, 2025.

The wing can be delivered to the winner within a 1-hour radius of York, PA, at no additional cost. Given that the wing will be used during races, its condition isn’t guaranteed.

Pat Brewer of NinetyFive Motorsports said the team was honored to be a part of the tribute and fundraiser.

“We are a team made up of community-based individuals, and we love to give back to our communities. What Jimmy (O’Brien) and J Fuels are doing is incredible. The logistics of something like this are huge.”, Brewer shared.

“This is about awareness of what the first responders do for their communities every day, and it’s about the sacrifices their families make, not just in loss but every day, at all hours of the day.”

The tragedy gave NinetyFive Motorsports driver Kody Hartlaub pause as well.

“My wife Audrey and I were in that hospital just a few weeks prior to that awful day giving birth to our second daughter, so it really hit home for us that something like that could happen in our community.”, Hartlaub shared.

Double Dose of Victory Lane: Tony Jackson Sweeps Wingless Features at Williams Grove Speedway

Tony Jackson added another memorable chapter to his already impressive 2025 campaign, scoring both his fifth and sixth victories of the season during a special twin-feature night on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway. The night was not only a major rebound from earlier weather setbacks—it also marked the first double-feature sweep in wingless action of Jackson’s career.

“I’ve swept the night before in wingless and winged sportsman, but I can’t remember ever doing that in just the wingless car,” said Jackson. “It was a pretty cool night for me and our team and one I’ll definitely remember.”

The evening kicked off with a make-up feature from a previously rain-shortened event. Jackson, piloting the familiar Scott Hess Racing No. 88, rolled off fifth on the grid. He wasted little time slicing through the field, taking the lead by lap three and never looking back. In dominant fashion, Jackson cruised to the checkered flag with a commanding margin of victory—crossing the line more than 7.0 seconds ahead of the competition.

In the second feature of the night, Jackson faced a bit more traffic, starting seventh. Once again, he was up to the challenge. He charged through the field and claimed the lead by lap seven, ultimately sealing the deal on an unforgettable night at the Grove.

“You never know how big of a lead you have out there, but we just got out front and just tried to stay consistent in both shows,” said Jackson. “To finally get a full night in here after so many rainouts and then to score both wins, it was just a really cool night.”

The back-to-back wins bring Jackson’s season total to six and his career tally to 52 victories, further cementing his reputation as one of the region’s most consistent forces in wingless Sportsman competition. The wins were also special sentimentally, as Jackson currently only has one more trip to Williams Grove left on his 2025 schedule.

“With the way Williams Grove has battled rain all year and with it being my final season racing, I really was starting to think I might not get another chance to win there,” he said. “So, to be able to add a couple more victories to my total in what could be my final shot there, it was a little more meaningful for sure.”

Jackson and Hess will take a much-deserved break from the track this week and will return to action on June 21st at BAPS Motor Speedway for wingless competition.
